This may be an unpopular opinion, but I love the first half of AVOS. The first book is in my top 10 favorite Warriors books, maybe even top 5 I love it that much. While TAS and SS have some choices that I was not fond of, it was clear that there was an interesting story to be told with Darktail and the Kin driving the plot. But that entire storyline was wrapped up in book 3, and in contrast the second half of AVOS is my least favorite part of Warriors. Sure, it dealt with SkyClan getting settled in with the other clans, but there really wasn't any central plot points to follow. It felt like they just invented conflicts each book to try and keep the story going. It never made sense to me: how could the arc start off so strong and then take a complete 180 halfway through?
Then I realized the other day, the writers must have developed the idea for TBC about halfway through writing AVOS, because they spent the second half of the arc setting up for it. In the second half of AVOS, Tigerheart was made leader, Shadowsight was born, and Tree and the concept of ghost cats were introduced. The authors had ambitious plans for the next arc, and it seems that they were willing to sacrifice the narrative of AVOS to prepare for it. This saddens me, because I really liked what they were doing with AVOS. What do you guys think, am I onto something here? Or is this common knowledge and I am just now catching on?

It's an interesting conspiracy theory, but I doubt that TBC was planned that far ahead. I do think AVOS was sacrificed, but it wasn't because of TBC. It was because there was a real intent to make Tigerheartstar a big deal

Yeah it seems that way. Shadowsight was introduced in Tigerheart’s Shadow and he was obviously going to be important. Seems like the last half of AVoS was a lot of set up for what they were going to write next.
