let me explain.
what if pregnant queens from all the clans move in together in a neutral territory, and raise their kits together, and share each others values. not to influence which clan they will chose, but to give them an idea of each.
then when they are apprentice age, a special gathering is called, and leadersof all the clans bring warriors and medicine cats who are eligable for apprentices, and each 6 moon cat is able to join a clan and pick their mentor.
how do u think this idea would go? does it sound reasonable? i think it'd be interesting and a better solution. instead of viewing clans as something u need to be loyal to, it'd be more of a choice and less of an obligation.

Eeeeeh I'm not really sure
The thing with that is that it'd lead to overspecialization and not enough diversifying of talents/skills, so to speak. Though it would at least diversify the gene pool

This feels like it would turn the whole thing into politics, which can get really ugly with younger cats. I imagine you'd see all kinds of bribery, gossip, and lying in an attempt to convert more kits to join your clan's side. That's the nature of politics, but there's a reason that political activism generally is cut off from younger people, because when done on younger people, it's very manipulative. This also easily leads to critical mass situations, where by the fact that a large number of kits decide to go to one clan, even more kits will decide to join them purely to stick with their friends and because the group says it's good.
This in and of itself would lead to huge swings in numbers between clans, as it is entirely possible that you get a situation where, say, Shadowclan gets ten kits and all the others only get one or two a piece.
I don't think that I wouldn't want to read about this system, but it strikes me as very creepy and rife for abuse.

No thanks.
While it is fun to discuss what Clan is similar to which Hogwarts house hypothetically, let's leave that whole system in the universe it belongs to, shall we?

everyone's replies r pretty interesting. i do see the problem this could cause, since birth rate is a thing, and also bias and stuff too. if kits from all five clans are raised together and learn the basics of every clan, i could still see the problem that vec laid out above where some clans might not get any apprentices, etc. at least in hogwarts, a mystic being that can apparently predict ur future self and determine which house u belong in, and in my idea, the kits would gain all the info they need to make a decision for themselves. so its not one to one comparison for this idea.
