Pretty much what's in the title. It's a fun prompt and I have planned out exactly what I want to happen with it, but I haven't even gotten to the main action yet and I'm already at 405 words. Granted, I did write the beginning and end first, but there is no way I can write the climax with so few words...I'm already disliking the scene because I have to severely limit my descriptions and setup in order to make it work. I think limiting us to 500 words is super unfair. What do you think?

Also this is probably one of the challenging parts of beeing an autor. Making sure that a story can be short but still be great. Also theres a prize, So dont expect it to be easy. I dont even try because my english is just terrible and Vicky would die of laughter reading it.

Will probably make it very hard for me to be published but oh well lol.

I'm not even going to try. For one, the required word count is far too short, the prizes just aren't very interesting except for maybe the signed copy of ItW, and it's NaNo, so I already have my own writing projects on my plate anyway.

i've tried several times, but 500 words is not enough for me. i cant even reach the climax of my part of the story without hitting that 500 word count limit...it's kinda disheartening for me.

I've written up a draft but I'm not entirely happy with it - the ending is too crammed but I can't make it much longer without cramming the rest of the plot :/ For now I'm leaving it, I'll revisit in a week and see if I have a better idea by then though

Man, NaNoWriMo must be a breeze to all of you who can't write half a scene in less than 500 words. 1000 words is about typical scene length, especially for a kids series like Warriors.

Not necessarily with how Vicky set it up. Her half is almost entirely dialogue and setting up the action that we're supposed to write, and she expects us to come up with a conflict and resolution in 500 words???

I'm still thinking about entering it but my English (and thus writing style) might read itself a bit weird due to it not being my first language. And then there is also my writing skill which has become a bit rusty because of me not using it as much anymore to write full on stories.

I slightly wish I had that problem. After months of barely writing fiction, it's going to be a challenge for me to reach 500. Lately my writing has come up too short, and it's annoying. :/
Other than that, I thought of an idea or two yesterday, so that's a start.

It probably would've been better if she just said what she expected from the writing prompt without essentially having already written most of it down, and though the conflict has already been set up (catching the herb thief) and it's not impossible, it'll still be pretty rushed.

She expects you to finish a scene. There's no need to have a whole book with plot and resolution and stuff, in fact I got the impression that that wasn't the idea at all. 500 words is too short for a whole story, yes, but for one scene that's a part of a larger story, it's just enough for the back half. Idk, man, I found it a reasonable restriction given the context.

I don't write much. When I do, I don't know how to pace and the scenes go by fast even with no restrictions. Probably that's why I didn't struggle so much and have mine submitted already.
