Probably one of the bigger hot takes , there may be bigger idk . But back in my day , back in 2004 everyone ,and I mean practically everyone that was reading the series at that time , absolutely FLIPPED/lost there shit when Vicky Holmes killed off yellowfang ( since this was back when she actually had popularity and was practically everyone’s favorite medicine cat at the time ) was definitely one of the most divisive , heartbreaking moments back in my day , and i know a lot of people got pretty sassy over email about it , since this was back before the wcrpforums , blogclan or any other Fan made community revolving around this fandom , or any other media that you contact the Erins through . ( heck , internet in General still had training wheels attached to it basically lol). How the times have changed , yellowfangs popularity has quite literally had a 360 turn in popularity since then . how you’ve fallen from grace you Flea-bitten grumpy mange-pelt . I was devastated when Yellowfang died. That was one of the first deaths that really broke my heart (Silverstream's always made me cry, but that was more from Graystripe's reaction than losing her as a character). I loved Yellowfang in TPB, and her death was awful. I can, however, see why the fandom doesn't like her that much anymore. I think when she was alive (at the very least, in TPB) she was a great character. Grumpy, annoying, all that kind of stuff, yes. But she was also motherly and just really lovable, particularly since we were seeing her through Fireheart's POV. I think once she dies, yes she becomes significantly more annoying (and paranoid later in PO3/OOTS), but I think a lot of that stems from the fact that we mostly see her from Jayfeather's POV. Jayfeather never saw Yellowfang as a motherly/grandmotherly type of figure, he always saw her as the annoying old StarClan cat who stopped him from doing whatever he wanted, which would definitely taint his view of her.
