So, what do you think about cats crying in fanfictions or animations? I know they can't cry in real life unless their eyes are infected, but I don't mind and even use it myself. These cats are already humanized so much, I think them crying is perfectly reasonable when they have religions and magical healing herbs.

It's fine. I don't mind it at all.
iirc, there's been moments in the actual books where characters tear up or get "misty eyed" in response to sad/emotional things(which maybe doesn't count as full-on crying, but it's there).

I hate it. Humanized or not, they are still suppose to be cats.

I don't care. These cats can do a million unrealistic things already, why not add crying to the list?

Considering how humanized they are, I don't mind the cats crying at all.

I don't mind it. I also never understood why so much hate towards the books for this. These cats have religion, magical healing herbs, superpowers, magical portals, but they can't cry? It just seems ridiculous to me. And besides, the books are more intriguing and emotional when they can smile, cry, and have angry expressions.

The fact that the cats make facial expressions is already a problem because cats are some of the most unexpressive higher mammals to exist on the planet. People made all kinds of jokes about the 2019 Lion King lacking expression, but that's because if you look at real life cats, they are really very dull-faced animals. This is because cats are solitary with the exception of lions (who owing to this do have some facial mobility) and so social communication is basically unimportant to them.
Anyway, sacrificing realism on the altar of emotional weight is fine by me. Though I would say that in the hypothetical scenario where a movie came out and the cats had realistic faces, then the facial expressions should be toned down. Otherwise you end up with something like the Netflix Jungle Book which is all kinds of disturbing when applied to a realistic CGI model rather than a stylized animation.

I think it's totally fine for them to cry. Not only are these humanized versions of cats but they already have weird stuff in their lives such as ghosts and magic.

I never really think about it, I mean Warriors is fiction so I don’t expect the books to always portray cats perfectly

I’m cool with it! I’ve drawn it before. In a fantasy series with demon cats, ghosts, powers and talking badgers, I think some stray tears is hardly an issue.

i cant be a hypocrite, so i'll admit that i draw cats crying all the time lol. but generally, i know i shouldnt do it bc cats dont cry irl, and theres plenty other ways to portray sadness than drawing a tear stream, but its just very easy to do it and be done fast

It's completely fine. Warriors is humanized to the point where things like crying don't really matter anymore.
Although I do agree with Vectoring and that it shouldn't be overdone in animations.

Let them cry. They're humanized cats with religion who can talk.

I honestly find it off-putting. Cats don't cry, they can't roll their eyes, and they have some of the least expressive faces in the animal kingdom. Just because we give them more "human" qualities like time travel, portals, religion, etc. doesn't mean that we get to change their anatomy on a whim. The further we go down this rabbit hole, the more likely the writers will add a cat with wings or something of that nature. In my opinion, the series should have embraced more cat-like qualities from the start, both in terms of culture and remaining consistent with what they are physically capable of doing.

I really don't mind considering the fact that these cats do lean towards many human aspects. Although I'd be a bit surprised if it was in writing, I don't mind in animations and fanart. Yeah, cats have their own way of expressing sadness, but it might not register to people.

I don't like doing it, and definitely don't want to see it in the official books, but idc if someone else does it. It's fan content, you're supposed to go wild.

Eh, its ok in fanworks. In the books it would be a bit weird, but hey, these cats created kitty religion and can talk. Why not?

I hold the cats in these books to the same standards as the cast of CATS. Do cats actually cry when they're sad? No. Does the actress singing "Memory" in CATS cry for greater emotional impact? Usually, yes. Warriors is already xenofiction, so I think crying is a pretty minor way to be unrealistic in a series with possession and monogamous relationships.
(This is an aside, but CATS was the last movie I saw in theatres pre-pandemic and it still haunts me. If the cats in this series cry like how Jennifer Hudson cries in that movie, then I'd have a problem.)

I'm fine with shiny eyes or moisture brimming or something like that. If it's like full on water coming down the face or splashing, then I find it weird.

its weird. i imagine scenes playing out with 100% realistic cats. Thinking of an actual cat crying is bizarre.
