First of all, "Tawnypelt is a terrible person!" is not what I'm going for here. I don't hate Tawnypelt, I forgave her a long time ago bu whenever I think about her joining ShadowClan I get a sick feeling in my stomach and I think that the gravity of what this cat did even as a nave child, is overlookedd.
By Joining ShadowClan, Tawnypelt abandoned Brambleclaw and Goldenflower. Brambleclaw would never share a den wih his siser anymore. Goldenflower migh have to face her own daughter in battle. They both have a CHANCE of seeing her once a moon. Or they might not.
There is simply no way to ignore the fact, that in response to being compared with.
if Tawnypelt were my sister and she did that to me, I would be hurt. Like, really hurt. Like, BADLY hurt. Every time we met would be a reminder of a rift she willingly put between me and her. Every time I told myself she did it to escape judgemental stares would be a reminder of the fact that in doing that, I had one less ally when *I* faced that judgement. My sister left me. She didn't even say good bye. She... abandoned me.
I would try to forgive her, but it would be hard.
Tawnypaw joined ShadowClan WHEN TIGERSTAR WAS STILL LEADING SHADOWCLAN.
If we could've gotten some insight to Tawnypaw's choice, like "Maybe Tigerstar is misunderstood, like me!" or it was a "then let me be evil" situation, maybe then I could have more sympathy for her, but all we know is that Tawnypaw, upon being mistrusted for the identity of her criminal father, went and swore allegiance to her criminal father. Look, even in the "then let me be evil" idea... I just...I'm trying not to hate on Tawny but what she did kinda is the heaviest part of TDH.

i sincerely hate tawnypelt, so take that in mind for my reply. also, im never going to change my mind on any of what i say, so dont debate me. i've been through this before when it came to tawnypelt. i just wanna say my piece since OP is sharing theirs. tawnypelt has always been a coward and a loser since her apprentice days. i never understood tawnypelt's reason for leaving. why couldn't she stay with her brother, the only other cat at the time (beside their mother) who understood the things she was going through, and prove thunderclan wrong? brambleclaw did it, and he had it WORSE than her because he LOOKS like their evil father. so what the hell was tawnypaw's excuse? i've made this same argument in the past, and i dont wanna hear the same replies "oh but tawny shouldn't have to prove anything to anyone. good for her for leaving for her own benefit" but what benefit? joining her obviously evil father? for what reason? she had a steadfast and protective MOTHER to support her. she had her BROTHER who was going through the same thing as her (but i argue worse since he LOOKS like the person people hate them for in the first place). so if BRAMBLE could stay focused on his training and prove others wrong by becoming the best he could be, then why couldn't tawny!? proving she's been a coward her whole life. she'd rather join her evil father than stick it out with her good family members and prove her worth by her brother's side. she's stupid.
anything goes wrong, and tawnypelt goes running to any kin who can save her. things go wrong in thunderclan? she runs to her father. things go wrong in shadowclan? she runs to brambleclaw when he's deputy, and then bramblestar once he's leader. she can never ever face crap on her own or work things out. and the one time she DOES stay? she makes an ass out of herself for the sake of her crappy leader mate rowan and attacks a clanmate over it. i know people will say "but scorchfur deserved it, he provoked her" thats a load of bullcrap. he spoke his mind. tawny didnt like his opinions, so she resorts to violence. u think thats a GOOD thing? no thanks. big disagree there. she's a stubborn coward.

its fine my parents were divorced so i understand her bein confused and choosin a side. Divorced parents tend try to manipulate their kids to hate the other parent and make themselves seem like the better option. I think she was just very manipulated and genuinely thought it would be better in ShadowClan. Plus, I mean her and her brother were being unfairly treated. I get it.

Tawnypelt has no obligation to stay with a clan that judges her for her father when they’re supposed to support and care for her as a clanmate. At least in Shadowclan, Tawnypelt could build her own self as a Warrior without everyone knowing or caring about Tigerstar’s legacy in the Clan. She didn’t feel happy or safe in Thunderclan so she made a decision, as a young child mind you, to not waste her time trying to prove herself to a Clan that she should have never had to prove herself too. She shouldn’t be obligated to have to put Bramblestar and Goldenflower’s feelings always before hers too. Bramblestar still had his mother, and I kind of hate this idea that Tawnypelt is awful for wanting to find happiness for herself and never dragged anyone along or wasted time in finding it.
She clearly loves Shadowclan. She made her bed and happily lied in it, had a family and legacy in Shadowclan, became one of their best Warriors, and she trained so many of Shadowclan’s apprentices. Sorry. I don’t fault her for not accepting to stay in Thunderclan when they openly treated her like trash simply for being Tigerstar’s daughter rather than for her own actions and choices.

Thank god my parents never did this when they divorced, but that rift in choosing a side sometimes is hard on a child.

I feel like Tawnypelt made the decision to leave first, then considered her options and decided on ShadowClan because 1. She didn't want to leave the Clans completely, 2. There was no way WindClan would have accepted her, and even if they did she'd get even more suspicion for being ThunderClan and Tigerstar's daughter, so the only option was 3. TigerClan, where she was guaranteed to be accepted. This is probably the only other reason besides "then let me be evil" like OP said above. Though surely she knew that she would face suspicion in ShadowClan too? That's the part I don't understand.
As for not telling her family, yeah, that was a jerk move. Though I guess she did it because she thought that they would tell Firestar, who would then trust her even less. Maybe Brambleclaw might have if pressed, but I don't think Goldenflower would have. And to avoid that she could tell her family then leave right away.
As an only child though, I'm probably underestimating how much this all hurt Brambleclaw, so yeah. :|

I feel like a lot off people forget how lucky Tawnypelt was that Scourge conveniently killed Tigerstar before he could actually fight ThunderClan; if he hadn't then Tawnypelt would have fought against ThunderClan and contributed to Tigerstar's attempt to brutally conquer the Clan that includes her own family.

Exactly, it's Brambleclaw and Goldenflower that bothers me the most. She left her family. There's just no way I can overlook that. It makes me sad.
