this is what i mean:
they knew yellowfang is gray (despite her name being yellow but thats a different matter).
so when they made her prequel SE, why on gods green earth did they make both her parents ginger? do they have NO common sense or logic at all? at least make ONE of her parents gray! it's not hard, so why do they stubbornly persist this kind of problem?
a more famous example:
they KNEW thunderstar was an organe cat. they did this way back in the guide books. so WHY DID THEY MAKE BOTH HIS PARENTS GRAY!? ik it makes him "special" but it makes NO LOGICAL SENSE. why do they KEEP doing this!?
if they didnt kill bright stream, and if bright stream were ginger tabby and white, then thunder could have easily been hers instead and he'd make sense
i know some people are already gonna say "well genetics in warriors never made sense anyways" but there's almost always SOME level of logc in the kits.
leafpool coming out brown tabby despite both her parents being ginger? easy. firestar's mom was brown tabby, his sister was brown tabby. and sandstorms parents could be anyone so who is to say one of her own parents werent also brown somewhere in there?
my point is, im gonna complain about the lack of logic in prequel material forever...it's insane
same level of logic applies to adderfang and swiftbreeze. they're both brown tabbies. and yet their kits all look drastically different. one's black. one's black and white spotted. one's solid gray. they have two red torties. there was ZERO logic behind lumping all those cats from the first arc together...NONE!

I honestly don't mind any of this. The writers have never looked at genetics, and it feels like they also don't really care for it. Neither do I, I love the books and most of the time I won't even think about think about these things unless someone mentions it. It is kinda weird, but it won't ruin my experience reading the books.
and about the Yellowfang thing, it could also be very possible that some cats in Brackenfoot's family were gray, and Brightflower's father maybe? We also don't know any of Adderfang's parents, and we don't know Swiftbreeze's father or any of her other family. I am not an expert on cat genetics, but Flashnose is Swiftbreeze's mother, and Daisytoe is Flashnose's sister. Daisytoe is a gray and white spotted cat. Could it be possible for Patchpelt to also be spotted?
idk, like I already said, I don't know anything about cat genetics, I guess it's common sense that Thunder could not be ginger when both of his parents are gray.
EDIT: why did this post make me 'dark forest leader' lol

I can think up some other ones as well:
Brackenwing: Pale ginger Redclaw: Dark ginger Barkface: Dark brown with yellow eyes. Shrewclaw: Dark brown with yellow eyes.
Rainflower: Pale gray Shellheart: Dappled gray Oakheart: Dark reddish-brown with amber eyes. Crookedstar: Light brown tabby with green eyes.
Fallowtail: Light brown with blue eyes. Reedfeather: Light brown tabby with amber eyes. Graypool: Dark gray with yellow eyes. Willowbreeze: Pale silver-gray tabby with amber eyes.

Because 99% of people don't really care about genetic accuracy in their characters. It's not like Warriors is a unique example here either, if you look at any work featuring human characters I can guarantee that at no point did the writers ever draw up a Punnet square to make sure everyone's genetics matched up fine.

Not to veer away from Warriors, but it reminds me of my cat and her littermates. I don't know what her parents looked like but my cat is black, she had a lynx point sister, a sister with Siamese markings, and a brown and white tabby brother.

Willowbreeze: Pale silver-gray tabby with amber eyes. exactly...all the prequel SE's do this and its so aggrivating. like they KNOW crookedstar is pale brown. they KNOW oakheart is reddish brown...so why do they insist on making their parent look NOTHING like them? not even one of them is brown in the slightest! how hard is it to make shellheart dappled brown or something? they made silverstream's mother be silver-gray like silverstream herself, so then why is willow's parents BOTH brown? they do this on purpose to make people like me angry...i swear.

I just kind of assumed that the random color gene came from their grandparents. Brightflame(?) I think her name was, was Yellowfangs grandmother and I think she was orange and silver

Also with Storm, there could be a chance she had parents or siblings with ginger fur, hence passing it onto Thunder. (Since we know nothing about her while his father’s side is just gray and brown.)

Also considering the fact that Fluttering Bird was a brown cat I can assume Clear Sky and Gray Wing's dad must have had a red/brown gene that may have been carried down to Thunder?

I know you're not talking about real life genetics, and you probably already know, but I like sharing info that I know about cat color genetics and stuff, and the brown (or rather, chocolate) color gene is actually a mutation of the black color gene.

honestly the parents dont bother me much. what does bother me is cats like tawnyspots being grey, and yellowfang being grey despite her name (probably can be forgiven bc early installment weirdness) do u mean when they're named for a specific thing but look the opposite? like...if bluestar was a bright ginger cat and didn't even have blue eyes lol ?

i honestly feel like they don't think about how the parents of a cat look when they make them most of the time, they just design the cats.
it can be irritating if it makes little sense genetics-wise, but so much in warriors already makes little sense that i try not to get TOO bothered by it myself

Turtle Tail: Calico Tom: Solid ginger Sparrow Fur: Clone of her mom Owl Eyes: Dark grayPebble Heart: Dark gray tabbyLike hello?! It's like they were going to be Gray Wing's biological kits but they changed it at the last second This one is actually genetically possible. Whether toms are "red" or "black" (which includes gray, that's a dilution of black, and includes tabbies with black or gray stripes) depends only on the mother because it's on the X chromosome and males only get an X chromosome from their mother, so a tortoiseshell/calico can give either a red or black allele to her sons but not both. If Turtle Tail passes the black gene to both and both Turtle Tail and Tom carry the recessive dilution allele which would turn black into gray, this would be possible.

It's not like Warriors is a unique example here either, if you look at any work featuring human characters I can guarantee that at no point did the writers ever draw up a Punnet square to make sure everyone's genetics matched up fine. Basically this. Most people really already don't care about accurate genetics in fiction, and besides, even if it was accurate, there'd be a severe lack of pelt variety in the Clans and that'd just be boring. Remember that this is a series aimed at middle schoolers, 10 to 14 year olds, so most of them are just going to care about this kind of thing even less. It really shouldn't be that big of a deal, and this series clearly has its own rules regarding genetics anyway, one that's more or less hereditary. And the case with Thunder? He could've easily inherited his pelt from a grandparent besides Quiet Rain or even a distant ancestor, since the series has already established that resembling someone from so long ago is also possible as well (ex: Tigerclaw and Spottedleaf looking like Gorseclaw and Spottedpelt respectively). As for Yellowfang, there was Silverflame. Orange and gray, true, but still gray nonetheless.
