do u think this is a good idea or not?
for me, my personal rule is, a cat is born or is a new apprentice in one arc, they only stay around for 2-3 arcs following their birth/new apprenticeship.
for example, sandstorm, dustpelt, graystripe, and all the cats who were born and made apprentices in that first arc, they would already be retired or dead by OotS.
squirrelflight, leafpool, and all the other TNP cats who were relatively younger apprentices (or alternatively, who were born or new apprentices in firestars quest since it's just before TNP), should have been gone by AVOS.
if cats only have 3 arcs to stay around before they either die or retire, do u think this would solve the overpopulation problem? and i think this kind of writing rule would force the writers to finally give focus to the younger cats, since they wouldnt needlessly kill the younger cats for no reason (my main example for this is foxleap, icecloud, hazeltail, toadstep, etc. all who died before their time).
this means the popular TNP and Po3 cats should be done or retiring by this point in TBC, but that's no where near happening yet which i think is ridiuclous (mainly for the TNP cats like....why r they still around and hogging spotlight? we have so many young cats born since Oots and AVoS as it is!)

I think this is a good idea, though I don't mind the majority of cats that much, I love seeing new characters be introduced to the series, while keeping the ones I really like, like Rabbitleap (who is probably Squirrelflight's age/ maybe even a few moons older) still around. What bothers me the most, is where they choose to focus the spotlight, like they have all these new characters, but they're STILL focusing on the same cats that they've pretty much ALWAYS focused on, the cats whose lives we pretty much know inside and out. It feels like none of the newer characters ever get a chance, because they focus on Crowfeather the most in WindClan, Mothwing in RiverClan, Tigerheart in ShadowClan, and Squirrelflight in ThunderClan like they're the only ones who exist.

You're right! It almost feels like they're using the older characters as a crutch to keep selling the books, since they're so beloved in the fandom, but that's a double edged sword, because they can't really make any of the newer characters as awesome, because they keep pouring everything into these old crusty ass characters who have been around forever.

I don't think arc count is a great way to go about it, since the arcs are of variable time scale (like the Po3 and OotS apprentices are of roughly the same generation, whereas the OS and TNP apprentices are of different generations). But as far as keeping track of how much time has passed, yes, characters should only be around for a reasonable amount of time. I'd just prefer that time measurement come from an in-universe clock rather than just relying on how many books they've been around.
I'm someone who prefers the more human-like portrayal of the cats, so I think if a particular cat has great-grandkits who are full warriors (or is the same age as someone who does), it's just about time for them to go. I know real cats can have multiple generations of descendants before dying, but it makes me not relate to the characters as much if their entire recent ancestry is alive.

Thinking TNP cats gone in AVoS makes me cry. That's reasonable, though. I think them being elders in TBC might be better than killing them, though.

I think them being elders in TBC might be better than killing them, though. in my mind, by AVOS, the TNP cats have all overstayed their welcome. i'd prefer most of them be dead and have some be retired by then. and since squirrel and bramble's kit alder was a protag in AVOS, them retiring or dying would make sense to me.
