My friend and I were discussing the situation in ShadowClan, where almost everyone in the clan dipped out, except for Tawnypelt and Tigerheart, and it made me wonder, since the majority of ShadowClan left, were Tawny and Tiger really loyal to ShadowClan until the end, or did they side with their family? Or would it be both since Rowanstar was the leader as well? Even though the majority of the clan left? Basically, what I'm asking, is it more so that the clanmates are the clan, or is the leader the clan? Sorry if this is confusing.

The clanmates make the Clan as a Clan is just another word for large family, the leader just guides it. Without the members, a leader would just be leading no one but themselves.

i agree with sorethroatto answer the specific question, the clan members make up the clan. a leader without anyone to lead is not a leader at all. i feel like tawnypelt was TOO loyal to rowanstar, to the point where it compromised her other decisions for the clan as a whole, which is why i dont like her being deputy to her mate in the first place.

Like what other decisions? In Tawnypelt's Clan, she was making smart choices for the clan (up until she tried to take Tigerheart's son out on a journey that Tigerheart did NOT want her to take him on) like, she was telling everyone to rebuild the dens and stuff, but they were being little disrespectful brats and not listening, so that's not exactly her fault. But I don't remember any decisions she made for the clan so, I could be totally wrong

To answer the poll question in general, loyalty to your Clanmates make it a Clan more than loyalty to a leader. However, in the specific situation with Tawnypelt and Tigerheart that you mentioned, I think they were being loyal to their Clan since all of the rest of their Clanmates were joining the Kin, and so therefore no longer ShadowClan.

The rest of ShadowClan was more than ready to join the Kin and no one but Tawnypelt and Tigerheart did anything to help Rowanstar after Darktail attacked him. It's no different than when Blackstar disbanded ShadowClan, only it wasn't Rowanstar's choice this time. They were being loyal to ShadowClan, but why on earth would they stay when they were the ones who were betrayed? If they were more loyal to their kin, then they would've stayed with Dawnpelt and Rowanstar would've surrendered then and there.
Neither Tawnypelt nor Tigerheart should be shamed for siding with him. They would've done the same if any other cat had been their leader, it just happened to be Rowanstar during this time.

I wasn't trying to shame them, I actually think they're in the right, so sorry if it came off this way. I was just curious, because it's like the majority of the clan vs 2 cats and the leader.
