Just like my leader post, do you think you would be a good mentor, and which mentor do you think you would be the most like?
Honestly, I would probably be a terrible mentor, I have no patience with people, and I'm very quick to lash out at them and then I feel terrible about it, which I should, and I don't want to make other people feel bad, it just happens before I can even think about it. I've also been told that I try to teach advanced things way too soon, which if you want to be a good mentor, you gotta start at the basics or whatever. So yeah, I think my mentoring abilities would be a 1/10, only because I do love teaching people things, and they seem to learn from me sometimes, I just don't have the patience and I'm not looking to hurt anyone's feelings if I can help it. As for which mentor I would be most like I want to say Runningwind, since he was said to be too impatient to be a mentor, but he was never a mentor, so he doesn't count lol. I guess maybe Sandynose, personally, I didn't think he was strict or bad at all, but the majority of the fandom seems to think so.

I probably wouldn't have the patience for an apprentice, unless they were like Brackenfur.

That's funny, because I see Brackenfur as being someone I would lose slight patience with, since he was overly cautious as an apprentice, but not as much as I'd lose my patience with someone like Cinderpelt who was kind of bad at listening to her mentor when she first started out as an apprentice, like too eager and stuff. I'd like someone with a nice balance of cautiousness and braveness.

I would enjoy being a mentor, I think. I've already done something similar to my job recently, showing people how to do things, and I like to think I've done a decent job at it, especially with my manager praising it. I'd enjoy getting to know the apprentice, their reaction toward the rules & clan life. I'd love spending moments with them, watching them grow & learn, and the apprentice looking up to me. I think it's a job I would enjoy, but honestly, I'd still stick best as a meddie since I prefer working alone the most.

It really is interesting and a bit of a joy to see people learn new things. Like, I often watch my nephew, and it's so cool to see him learn new words and just general things about life. Like, I've been teaching him how to play catch, and he's getting really good at it!

If you are a Clan cat your entire life, being a mentor sounds really easy and a break from the monotony of hunting and patrols.

Like with what I said as a leader I would be an alright mentor. I'll probably be a bit too nice though.

I would probably be a decent mentor. I would be patient with my apprentice unless they were like Cinderpelt or Squirrelflight, wich would easily make me lose patience.

I'd suck at a mentor because I'm not good at explaining things and end up doing almost everything by myself. I have the patience, but not the mentoring skills to teach (if helping my younger sister with math is anything to go by).

I'd like to be a mentor to learn a whole new skill of teaching a young cat essential skills, but I feel like I'd be terrible at mentoring lol.

The benefit to the mentorship system is that it (hopefully) pairs up cats who are good matches for each other. A lot of people are terrible teachers because they lose patience with specific students who don't learn the same way they do. But a terrible teacher in that regard can still be a great mentor if given a matching apprentice. Based on that, I'd argue that very few cats are "terrible mentors" because that would imply they're incapable of teaching anyone, which is rare.
It's a Leader's job to create mentor-apprentice pairs that will work well together. It's also the mentor and apprentice's job to tell the Leader if they made a mistake and they're truly not a good match. So it's unlikely you'll just get saddled with some apprentice you can't reign in. Every example we've seen of that has been an oversight on the Leader's part (Fireheart given Cinderpaw when she was only 4 and he was only, what, 9?, Brightheart given Jaypaw solely because of shared disability with no personality match, etc)
Basically what I'm saying is that people in this thread are way too hard on themselves, lol
