Do you think it was understandable? Is it well written? I thought she was really well done, even if I didn't like Ivypaw at all. Ivypool as a warrior though... meh. She's not that great as a character afterwards, but I still like her enough.

I feel that this conversation has been had many times before
I think it's written fine. Dovewing was a cat she was regularly compared to and it makes sense that she might form resentment from that. She eventually moved past it as she matured and saw what it was doing to her

it's understandable for ivy to be jealous, but i dont think it was handled well. i just have to accept the fact that this series operates on "no healthy communication skills" because it wants drama that way specifically lmao.

The sad part is, these two HAVE communicated once before, but all of that maturity between them was wasted after Ivypool got angry at Dovewing and she wanted to leave her clan. The Erins had a chance to make them really mature characters. Sure, Ivypool is more mature than Dovewing, but there's been times when she's not that mature about everything, herself. Both sisters have a lot of growing up to do. They could have been written so much better and more interesting. Really, having them separated from each other was the best thing. They both treated each other like shit.

Yes the jealousy is understandable being told that your sibling is better than you at whatever it is hurts. I don't really remember OoTS too good but I don't really think it was well written. There were tons of time Dovewing and Ivypool could have talked about their feelings but instead drama between them always had to start which got annoying. I'm just glad they both went on their own ways since the two sisters imo would never get along.

The jealousy is understandable, but I'm not so sympathetic towards Ivypool. She handled it terribly.

I understand why she might be jealous, but i'm not that sympathetic with her. The way she handled it made me hate her.

I think that the quarrel between Ivypool and Dovewing was understandable due to the fact that getting constantly compared to a more successful sibling can indeed lead to tension and frustration. It was also relatively well written for a series about talking cats going to war on a regular basis. Ivypool eventually grew out of that resentment and moved on for a while until their drama got restarted by the writing team.

As someone who has been constantly compared to my sister and told to my face that I will never be as good as or as successful as she is, Ivypool’s character was the most relatable one in the entire series for me. It felt so good to finally have someone to relate to when I was younger, who was able to overcome that awful feeling and honestly become way stronger and a vastly better character in my opinion. When you are a child being forced into a competition with a sibling that you know you will never win? It destroys your self-esteem and your desire to want to connect with them. So yes, I think Ivypaw, who was basically a child/teenager, had an extremely well written jealousy that was extremely relatable. I’m just glad that she grew to move past it and that she put her foot down to Dovewing’s bullcrap in the later arcs.

I think Ivypool's jealousy was great, it was realistic, and made Ivypool feel like a more rounded and relatable character. Honestly, I think that if she was nice and understanding towards Dovewing all the time, it would make me dislike her more, because blegh, a cat puts herself in danger to fight with the bad guys to spy for her clan AND she's nice to her sister!?! That's a perfect character all wrapped up with a bow. Not that I'm saying she was being mean to Dovewing, but if she was just the best sister ever and she didn't get angry or jealous, it would just make her seem flat. I've actually been in similar situations myself where I've disliked people and I wasn't the nicest to them, simply because I was jealous of them. I know it's not the best thing, but what can you do? You can't really control how you feel, all you can control is how you handle those feelings. Did Ivypool handle her feelings in the best way? Probably not, but she's still a young cat, who is constantly being compared to her sister and put down, like when Blossomfall kept complaining about everything Ivypool did and she talked about how much better Dovewing was. Maybe if Ivypool knew about Dovewing's ability, or how much pressure she was under, then things might be different, but communication was not the key here. I know that Dovewing wasn't allowed to tell anyone, for some reason that I forgot about because let's be real, I just just skimmed POT and OOTS because I didn't care for these arcs, but I feel that if she had let Ivypool know what was going on, then things might be better, but of course, this isn't Dovewing's fault, and it's not Ivypool's fault either since jealousy is a normal human emotion, and she handled it better than I've seen jealousy be handed before.

Jealously is a completely normal human emotion that many people experience at some point in their lives. I don't blame Ivypool for being jealous at all- if I were in her shoes, I would have been jealous of Dovewing as well. I also understand why and how that jealously caused her to be so rude to Dovewing, sometimes even irrationally (although it didn't make the scenes any less frustrating to read.) Also, I agree with everyone else that communication between the two sisters was handled really poorly. If Ivypool and Dovewing had just sat down to talk about their feelings about each other in a healthy way, and try to understand each other's struggles, they would have had a far better relationship in OOTS.
