I think she's fine, and the best written of the three, along with being the most consistent. Although I like Rootspring too, his character arc is much too similar to Shadowsight's, just more likable. Brislefrost feels more down to earth, relatable, and honestly does remind me of Firestar. I think the only reason people have qualms with her is either for her being powerless or her romance arc, which honestly is "meh" arguments in the first place.I mean, it's not a bad reason to dislike her character. While she may be a breath of fresh air for others, there are people who don't like the concept of such a normal protagonist and don't find her as interesting, instead boring, meanwhile other characters that are easier to releate to get a lot more love. Imo i find characters with powers more interesting, and there's nothing wrong with it, either. That really just comes down to opinion then. Personally I think the power situation is oversaturated at this point in the story, everything in the main plot either has something to do with powers or destiny linked with prophecies, and it's becoming annoying. It's so common that it's predictable, and imo, if it's not executed well, it becomes a crutch for the character's relevancy. For example, quite literally both of Rootspring and Shadowsight's involvements weigh on the fact that they have powers. Like Twilight Sparkle pointed out, they both have powers, which causes them to have rocky relationships with their kin and clan, but specifically their fathers. And the similarities don't end there either. I just personally found Rootstpring's POV more likeable than Shadowsight because of how Rootspring is personality wise, and how he approaches situations. Not to mention, it actually makes sense for Rootspring to have powers, since his are genetic, but not Shadowsight. Although their arcs have very similar plots to it, Root seems better executed. While Bristlefrost is completely different on her own. She doesn't rely on powers, and she doesn't rely on some grand prophecy, she's just her. If she's not your type of character because she's powerless, and has a competent romantic arc, that's fine too, it's just your own personal taste, but personally I think based on the narrative she's being handled better than the other POV's.
