What things in the series have pleasantly surprised you?
After how much I disliked the back half of AVOS, I went into TBC with admittedly not very high expectations, so I've been pleasantly surprised by how much I've enjoyed the entirety of TBC so far.
For a more in-universe example, I've been really pleasantly surprised by how much I've enjoyed BristleRoot. Yeah, I wish it had developed a bit better initially from Bristlefrost's side, but I like their relationship and I honestly think it's one of the best forbidden relationships in the series now. I definitely never expected to appreciate them as a ship so much lol

Whenever they acknowledge that old characters exist. Like how Greystripe thought about Icecloud (I think that's her name anyway, she's Foxleap's sister)

Hollyleaf returning was a nice surprise for me. Even though her redemption wasn't the greatest, and it was a bit rushed with no consequences, I still liked how she turned out. She helped her clan even while she was away, which showed that she still cared about everyone, and that she truly wasn't evil after all, just someone who had issues that she had to overcome.

The handling of Crowfeather in Crowfeather's Trial. His character was wonderful in that book because he really matured a lot.
Also the fact that Twigbranch wasn't actually pregnant like people were theorizing when Alderheart said she looked bigger.

Mothwing's Secret, I wasn't looking forward to it at all, I thought, ugh, another book related to the Tigerclaw thing? However, it turned out to be pretty enjoyable even though they forgot about Reedwhisker's age, because I think he could have played an important part if they remembered that he was born in the first arc, and that he wasn't the same age as Leafpool and Squirrelflight.
Spotfur's Rebellion, so far, pretty much everything surrounding The Broken Code has been annoying, but this was actually very enjoyable to read.
Flametail's POV, I know I dump on it all the time, saying it wasn't needed, and Jayfeather's POV would have been much better. However, that's just from an over-all plot standpoint, I actually enjoyed it, it was nice to see into ShadowClan for the first time before they started getting a POV all the time and became just as relevant as ThunderClan. It also had lots of Littlecloud content, and what's not to love about that?
Hailstar in Crookedstar's Promise, I thought he was going to be a total jerk after I read Battles of the Clans, but he was actually really nice despite the name change.
Yellowfang's Secret, I heard that it was one of the worst SEs ever, but I really enjoyed it, most of the characters were really likable except for a couple, and I was only ever bored during the Raggedstar parts.
SkyClan's Destiny, another one that I heard was one of the worst SEs ever, but it is my absolute favorite.

Even though the latter half of AVoS is boring, it was nice and somewhat surprising to see more family relationships. (A small example would be Hawkwing and Violetshine turning up for Twigpaw's and Finpaw's warrior ceremonies, that was just too cute)

How they handled crowfeather in Crowfeather's trial, also was pleasantly surprised that they made him and Nightcloud forgive each other but not get back together. Thought it was very surprising but loved it.
Also am pleasantly surprised on how the Erins' are making familial relationships more common instead of never having kin speak or care about each other unless they're main characters.

The wholesome moments from apprentices in BrS. They made the SE really better.

I have to agree with Ṣanɗypaw™. Bramblestar's Storm might have been boring or at least underwhelming plotwise but the many different character moments within it made me love his SE nonetheless. The biggest very pleasant surprise in that book was when Bramblestar went on patrol with Squirrelflight, Lionblaze and Jayfeather. The way in which Lion and Jay goofed around while their (adoptive) parents had a nice talk was rather unexpected but also truly wonderful to see.
