This is part two of the old tumblr analysis posts. This one focuses on the relationships between Sol and Hollyleaf.
The interesting thing about Hollyleaf and Sol’s rivalry is that they are almost complete opposites in personality, ideals, and even contrast in their physical appearance as well…
First off: Sol is lazy, will fool other cats into doing his dirty work, is unwilling to work to become a better character, does not believe in the power of StarClan, finds the warrior code useless, cannot fight to save his life, uses his words to show his character, and frequently lies, decieves, but also knows how to handle a situation outside his control, as he is calm (most of the time.)
Hollyleaf, in contrast, believes in honesty and integrity, is diligent to fault, worked hard to redeem herself, believes strongly in StarClan, was obsessive about the warrior code, can fight so well she developed her own moves and held her own in TLH while bleeding to death, uses action to show her character, and frequently wondered what the truth was, fought for what she believed in, and was not…good at handling situations outside her control, and constantly worrying.
However, both are exceedingly arrogant and prideful, and as their character progresses, Sol refuses to be redeemed and becomes more arrogant and concieted, and Hollyleaf seeks forgiveness and becomes more humble and meek. Both also clash whenever they appear, and the traits of themselves that they tend to hate appear whenever they meet up with one another.
This even extends to their themes and circumstances between dark and light.
Sol is the name for the Roman god of the sun (despite his name being Harry in the SkyClan mangas), and associated with the sun and light. Sol’s also been compared to lion by Hollyleaf herself, and the lion is often considered a majestic animal that loves the sun. His eyes are even a golden yellow, which is usually associated with good characters. However, Sol is definitely not a good cat, and his appearance means trouble.
Holly berries are poisonous, and have sharp leaves that can cut you if not careful. Hollyleaf also lived in the dark tunnels for about 10 moons or more with nothing but a ghost for company, has commited dark actions, and even has the color scheme of black and green, which is common for stereotypes of ‘evil’ characters. Her eyes are also a dark green, while Sol’s are light. However, Hollyleaf is a true hero through and through despite what she has done.
In short: Sol is everything Hollyleaf opposes and despises and Hollyleaf is every obstacle block and annoyance that gets in Sol’s way. The two are opposed in nigh every single way.
