Do you think he's too hard on both of them, or does he have every right to refuse to forgive them even though their lie was years ago?

He has a right to not forgive them, as this was a pretty big lie. As long as he's not petty about it.

It's his choice whether he wants to forgive them or not because that was a huge lie. He seemed to have forgiven them in OoTS, then rekindled his grudge for them in AVoS.

He has the right not to forgive them but I like it better that he did.

No one needs to forgive anyone. They have a right to decide if they want to or not. Squirrelflight and Leafpool lied to him his entire life, so it's understandable that he wouldn't forgive them easily. Although I thought that he'd already forgiven them long ago, Leafpool at least.

i feel like it was a little different for him because he spends way more time with leafpool than either of his siblings did. this is also why i think jayfeather's forgiveness of leafpool later makes sense too.
jayfeather being harsh is just like crowfeather's. jayfeather takes after his father, and both boys dont know how to express themselves in a healthy way, resultin in lashing out. not knowing how to express themselves in a healthy way can lead to frustration which leads to angry responses in my opinion (im not a psychology expert but thats just how i personally view it).

Jayfeather has every right to refuse to forgive Leaf and Squirrel for lying- he has no obligation to forgive them, after all. I'll only criticize him for it if he's cruel or petty with the not forgiving business.
