I like him, he's one of the few ShadowClan cats with a personality and his own personal morals. Plus he's obviously protective of his own clanmates and is great father and mate. I think he's definitely overhated, but honestly he just reminds me of ShadowClan's version of Dustpelt or Berrynose. I think people don't acknowledge how much he and his family has went through in AVoS, he's one of those background characters where you don't really notice their loss until it's looked in to, like Lizardtail for example.

I dislike him. In my opinion he's one of the most annoying cats in modern ShadowClan. Not only is his attitude unbearable, but he treats other cats like shit, jumps to conclusions too quick, never makes efforts to change, and his aggressiveness is honestly so unnecessary when he could be handling the situation a lot better. What made me dislike him the most, homever, is him putting down Rowanstar and saying Darktail was a better leader? I'm done with his character in there.

Licking Darktail's boots is pathetic, no matter how you slice it. He's not even fun to hate like a villain, he's just slimy. He's that one friend everyone has who goes "Well you know, both sides have a point" even when both sides is a dishonest argument.

Literal garbage of a cat, the worst kind of personality that is very often experienced in real life, pure awful bootlickers who do nothing to ever help a situation but thrive off of hurting others when things don’t go his way. He has 0 personality outside of being a huge ass. Yeah, he’s a devoted father but so are alot of other toms, so that hardly makes him any better. Blames everyone but himself, I despise characters like that.

He criticized his leader and she responds by attacking him. I know people always say that ShadowClan needs to stop only listening to violent leaders, but the fact that Tawnypelt of all people is shown to be pretty violent, says enough about her character. It also bothered me how gung ho she was when it came to attacking Yarrowleaf, and calling to have her sent away despite her being pregnant. I don't blame Scorchfur for not liking Tawnypelt considering how she was treating his daughter.

She was coddling Rowanclaw, and not letting him face his own battles and stand up for himself. And then she's shocked when he retaliates to defend himself? How is throwing claws going to solve anything at that point? If she was actually trying to be the "better" person in that situation, then violence was not called for. Afterward Scorchfur even feared retaliation for fighting back, just because Tawnypelt was Rowanstar's mate. He was afraid of them. He made it clear he didn't mean to almost hit her eye, and he even felt guilty for it afterward, and was in fear that Tawny and Rowan would want revenge against him. He's a warrior who's family has suffered a lot, and he's both has the right to be angry and hold criticism toward his leader. I don't blame him for being afraid of them if they're going to so easily attack him for speaking his mind and opinions. Two wrongs don't make a right, and it's scummy of Tawnypelt to try and silence and control him with violence.

The saddest thing is, I genuinely would have liked Scorchfur had he actually had a civil conversation for once in his life about why he was genuinely upset rather than do nothing at all to contribute to the restoration of Shadowclan besides blaming everyone else but himself for his own choices and actions. I certainly never saw him telling Tawnypelt that he never intended to harm her, or telling Rowanstar that he feared retaliation. Instead, he does nothing but complain about consequences of the actions he chose to make. He chose to support bloodthirsty rouges. He chose to support Darktail, claimed he hated him, and then blatantly claimed Darktail was better simply to hurt an already beaten down clanmate. He provided 0 solutions, he provided 0 support for any of his clanmates, and just like Needletail in Starclan, he becomes utter garbage the second he blames anyone and everyone but himself. He is not the only cat who’s family has suffered. That doesn’t get to give him a free pass to be an absolute piece of crap to everyone around him when I could very well say Tawnypelt’s justified in her anger too considering her daughter is missing, easily assumed as dead, by the very same cat that Scorchfur is praising to purposefully goad anger and retaliation. That’s just utterly disgusting to me.
There’s a difference between criticism and blatant verbal abuse. Scorchfur dives so far into the verbal abuse side that he’s at the far end of it at this point. It sickened me to read that scene and know that some people would defend it.

This is the scene. Sorry. I always forget the codes on mobile. There will be typos. I'm a little stressed, so my apologies Scorchfur glared challengly at Rowanstar. "So?" he snarled. "What should we do?"
Alderheart saw hesitation in the ShadowClan leader's gaze. He's not sure. The thought shocked him. Bramblestar always knew what he had to do, even if it meant nothing. "I must do what's right for the Clan," Rowanstar meowed at last.
"Isn't it a bit late for that?" Scorchfur curled his lip.
Tawnypelt darted forward, facing the dark gray tom. "Rowanstar has always done what's best for this Clan!"
Scorchfur scanned the half empty camp, contempt in his eyes. "So we have Rowanstar to thank for the state we're in?"
"Do you think you could have done any better?" Tawnypelt hissed. "You blame Rowanstar. But it was his Clanmates' disloyalty that killed them. If our apprentices grew arrogant, blame their mentors, not him. He cared about ShadowClan when none of you did. Rowanstar still wakes in the night, haunted by nightmares about the Clanmates he's lost."
Scorchfur flattened his ears. "He's lucky. He has nine lives to dream about lost Clanmates. They only had one."
"That's not fair!" Puddleshine blinked anxiously at Rowanstar. "You can't let him say that. StarClan gave you those lives because they believed in you."
Scorchfur's eyes narrowed to elite. "They believed in him once. Perhaps Rowanstar is the dark sky they're trying to warn us about."
Tawnypelt's green eyes glittered. "If anyone's the dark sky, it's you!" Her faze flicked angrily around her Clanmates. "You let the rogues take over the Clan. You let them drive Rowanstar away. Don't blame him for your treachery."
"And why do you think we chose a rogue over Rowanstar?" Scorchfur lashed his tail. "He's a weak leader then, and he's a weak leader now."
Tawnypelt's fur bristled. Spitting with fury, she lashed out at Scorchfur, slicing her claws across his muzzle.
Alderheart backed away, his pelt bristling. What was happening here? Clanmates shouldn't fight!
Scorchfur reared and slammed his paws onto Tawnypelt's shoulders. Hooking his claws in, he pulled her to the ground. She flipped over and, tucking up her hind legs, clawed viciously at his belly.
He struggled free and turned on her. Face to face, they snarled at each other. With a hiss, Scorchfur lashed out, raking Tawnypelt's eye with his claws.
Alderheart froze as she lurched away. ShadowClan gasped around him. What was Scorchfur doing? No warrior should ever attack another warrior's eyes! Tawnypelt shook her head, blinking. Her eyes shone, unharmed. She'd been lucky.
She showed her teeth, hatred twisting her face, as she advanced on Scorchfur. "You're not better than a rogue."
"Stop!" Tigerheart meowed at last. Fast as a fox, he crossed the clearing and pushed between the two warriors.
Rowanstar stared, his gaze stricken with shock. "We mustn't fight."
Darkest Night, pgs 160-161 In the end, they were BOTH voilent. Scorchfur went for her eye, while Tawnypelt went for his belly. Nobody was worse than the other; Tawny and Scorch both did bad things to each other. However, it clearly shows that Scorchfur was pressing it, not even trying to stop himself from mocking and disrespecting them. I partly agree with Scorchfur that Rowanstar isn't a good leader at all, but Tawnypelt is right that he brought these issues upon himself by abandoning his clan and letting it fall apart. Rowanstar should have listened to his warriors, but Scorchfur has no right to blame Rowanstar for him choosing Darktail when he's the one who chose to abandon his clan and betray them from the start. Scorchfur and Tawnypelt were both terrible to each other. She accused him of being the bad omen in the prophecy, whereas Scorchfur kept bullying both of them and blaming them for everything. However, I still think Scorchfur was asking for an ass kicking right there, because he wasn't going to stop, and Tigerheart honestly should've gotten involved earlier to stop both of them before it got this bad.

I honestly find it more sickening that Tawnypelt's behavior is justified at all. If neither she nor Rowanclaw can handle criticism or "taunts" then neither of them should be anywhere near positions of power. Warriors look to their leaders for guidance, but how can they rely on their leaders if they're weak and cowardly. Tawnypelt pretty much was trying to absolve Rowanclaw of ANY blame, and then turning and blaming everyone else in the clan. No one was right in that situation, but Tawnypelt is obviously too blinded to even realize that and she is also the one that escalated the situation in the first place. Rowanclaw didn't even know how to stop his own warriors from fighting, the fact that Tigerheart had to be the one to do it speaks enough volumes imo.
Also, the context of that scene and Scorchfur's words always get twisted on the forums it's not even funny. He clarified WHY they chose Darktail over Rowanclaw, and then added that Rowan was still a weak leader either way. Not, "Oh Darktail is a stronger leader, he was the better leader brrr" nope, it's him saying that regardless of Darktail, Rowan was a weak leader either way, and he's right, he is. But Tawnypelt, being the white knight she is, obviously couldn't handle that and immediately slashes him in the face, very classy right?

Criticism is the expression of disapproval of someone or something based on perceived faults or mistakes, and that's exactly what Scorchfur had toward Rowanclaw. Even Rowanclaw himself was aware of his own issues as a leader, there was literal doubt in his eyes, and the thought of what he should do next even shocked him. At that point in the story, he very much was a weak leader, even weaker than before, so it's not surprising he was planning to step down. Not to mention, Scorchfur's replies were based off Tawnypelt's white knight logic, since she wanted to deny any criticism that comes Rowan's way so badly.

Maybe it’s sickening that any of their behaviors are justified and that apparently not being a perfect powerful leader means that it’s okay to be treated horribly and blamed for everything that happened? I guess it’s okay to verbally abuse people and just call it criticism now? It just baffles me. That wasn’t criticism. That was being an ass to purposefully goad an argument and cause pain instead of genuinely helping his clan. Nothing’s getting twisted, Scorchfur is an awful cat in this scene with no excuse whatsoever to purposefully try and make things worse for the sake of an argument. It’s disgusting. Do I think Tawnypelt should have struck him? No. Do I understand why she felt compelled to? Absolutely.

You say Rowanstar is a full grown adult, and yes, maybe he should handle "criticism" better, but even then, Scorchfur wasn't the most mature cat in the situation. He was mocking them, blaming them, and in the end, I really don't think any cat here is innocent. ALL THREE weren't mature and were at fault. NO ONE handled this situation better than the other. Scorchfur shouldn't have started shit from the start, Tawnypelt should've controlled her emotions, and Rowanstar should've stepped in and stopped the fight before it got worse.
