So I am reading Darkest Night, and I read in the book that Fallowfern is deaf and she did patrols and hunting still. She didn't understand what other cats were saying but this got me thinking... this clearly shows that it would have been possible for Snowkit to do something for her clan instead of just the writers killing her (or him?) off like this. I am a little upset they didn't even give Snowkit a chance after seeing that from Fallowfern. It's only mentioned once in the book, so people probably don't remember her, but it shows it's possible for cats who are deaf to do things like patrolling and hunting. They didn't even give Snowkit a chance.

There's a huge difference between being born with a disability and gaining it. Jaypaw even points this out in The Sight.

Fallowfern lost her hearing with age, she wasn't always deaf. (Snowkit is a tom btw)

when it comes to snowkit i've always wondered how he would learn anything? they dont have sign language, and body language can only go a long way. he cant be taught word for word, the warrior code, from body language and tail signals alone, right? they could make up something for a born deaf cat, i guess (since crazier things happened in this series since snowkit was around), but its still confusing for me to understand.

Probably because Fallowfern lost her hearing with age, but she retained most of the skills she already knew.
