Travelers often go amiss, their ignorance being both a blessing and a curse.
A black cat with berries and other herbs in their fur moved carefully, placing delicate paw-steps to avoid tripping on a tree’s gnarled roots. They were searching for a specific herb, a flower of a bright green hue.
Mistakes such as forgetting to look someone in the eyes can be forgiven. The quarter moon yielded some light making their search more hopeful. Their eyes eyes scanned the area as they passed the last of the tree’s roots. After all, it only makes sense that a stranger is nervous when speaking to others in their home.
Yellow eyes alighted as they caught sight of bright green near the forest floor. Lofty petals consuming their view as they moved towards the herb, trampling some of the grass in their wake.
It is the fault of the stranger who does not heed the warnings offered by the denizens of an area…
Unbeknownst, to the black cat, the light of the sky had suddenly darkened. Too consumed to pay attention, their paw outstretched and they touch the soft petals.
”Lie low to the ground if you find yourself in total darkness.” A large snapping sound rings out and draws the black cat’s attention. They swing their head around, eyes widening with realization as they take note of the surrounding darkness.
”You must lie low. You have mere moments once the world becomes dark.”
Several more snapping sounds follow as the black cat flops to the ground, closing their eyes. They hope their dark fur further hides them. ”I will keep you and your search in my prayers, Ly.”
The air suddenly whips Ly’s fur, they do not have the moments to process this when blinding pain tears through their back. More snapping rings out, berries and other herbs are crushed haphazardly.
Ly nods their head, making sure to look the she-cat in the eyes.
The cat’s hind legs fail to move, to even twitch. Screams fill their ears, blotting out the sounds of bone snapping, their claws break as they try and find purchase in the ground.
”Thank you, Lo.” Ly meows, appreciation clear in their voice.
Jagged claws marks mar a trail of deep red, mixed with the crushed and murky colors that were of vivid purple, blue, and yellow. A flower of a once green hue is less mangled, even as it joins its more crushed brethren at the beginning of the trail near scraps of black fur.
”Stay safe.”

And the ordering may just have to be a little messed up, whoops! Spacing is hard on mobile and I wrote this entirely in my notes app

Oh wow! Such an interesting story! I seem to simulatiously know what's happening and not at the same time. It is truly fascinating! I'd love to know more about the idea for this story.

Oh wow! Such an interesting story! I seem to simulatiously know what's happening and not at the same time. It is truly fascinating! I'd love to know more about the idea for this story. I believe I just began repeating a character named Willow’s name in my head. Reducing the name to just its syllables becomes Will-low. Thinking through other words with similar syllables led me to below and I believe later, lie low. Hence the name Ly for the main character. (I believe this was shortly after I watched a movie with my father called Wrong Turn, which is a reboot, which led me to focusing on something short featuring a traveler in an unknown area, unaware of customs and dangers in an area they’re not familiar with.)
