Is Bristlefrost well written?

I personally found her character to be... rather lacking? Sometimes her character seems like a camera just to show us what's happening around her and most of the times she's doing something else, she's doing something another character is already doing, just through her eyes. And don't get me started on Bristlefrost's sudden change on her stance towards Rootspring. She could have been written a lot better, maybe with more internal struggles and more drive to change the plot.

I think she’s written just fine. She’s consistent, normal and very realistic. I love her.

Definitely not. She didn't even react to the death of her mentor

I lost interest when she liked Rootspring back. The Erins did not do a good job at making their relationship seem real.

I like her. I do wish she showed more of a reaction to certain cats dying however. Rosepetal was your mentor dam it! you should be devastated.

I think she herself is written great, the thing is, a good portion of the action relaying to the plot takes place in her point of view, since it's her clan's leader that this is happening to. From what we have seen though, she is a loyal and dedicated warrior who cares deeply for those around her. She isn't perfect though, she a hopeless romantic, not that it's a bad thing, but it could lead to some issues down the line. It doesn't surprise me that Bristlefrost changed her feelings for Rootspring so fast, she's always seemed to react more with her emotions and heart rather than with logic and her brain. However, even so, she has expressed way more maturity for her feelings for Rootspring than many other cats have in the past when it comes to forbidden romances. If Bristlefrost was placed in a less plot filled arc, then I think how she is written could go from great to amazing, or they might overdo it and make her way too much, but as it stands, those are my thoughts on her.

I think she's written fine, but I know she's not favored by some parts of the fandom simply because of her love interest in Rootspring. Which is fair, it is a forbidden romance, but unlike the past ones, it's at least being handled much better and maturely, and they're not officially mates either.

Yes, I fond Bristlefrost's personality to be written very consistently.

Ah, part of me also wonders if she suffers from a sense of detachment, mentally that is. She was manipulated by Ashfur, isolated by her clanmates, and witnessed cats being slaughtered, something she partly blamed herself for. I wouldn't be surprised if she was emotionally numb, or dealing with delayed grief, because even she herself acknowledged the lack of emotions she showed over Stemleaf's death. Maybe it's also why she clings to Spotfur too, and why she feels like she has to stay in TC, despite her feelings for Rootspring. I feel like she's definitely dealing with some sort of dissociation emotionally, she's showing quite a few signs of it. Either way...it's quite interesting to look into.

Yes, Bristlefrost is a great character. She's not surrounded by magical powers or great drama, just a normal warrior trying to be loyal to her Clan (and having some crush issues, first with Stemleaf, then with Rootspring!)

Kinda, I suppose. Wish the books would touch on the relationship she has with her family a bit more.
