When a character is made to promise to protect their clan, even at the cost of their life, do you think it's fair for them to make them promise this? I often wonder what would happen if someone rejected the promise, I wonder if they wouldn't get their full name if that's the case...?
Frankly for me, I don't think it's fair to make them swear an oath. It's actions that speak louder than words, anyway, and I feel like when a cat breaks the code, too many of them take it at heart tbh.

loyalty is everything the clans r made of and stand for. it makes sense to me for them to make an official oath when becoming full fledged members of their clans (as adults/warriors).

I think it's fair, and no one is forcing them to agree with it. It's what the clans live by, and if you don't agree with them, and the procedure, then you just can't see yourself as a warrior of that clan. You would be deemed unreliable if you can't live by the oath you make. The oath and code doesn't force you to believe StarClan, or anything like that, but it does ask of you to help and protect the clan you're living in, which is a fair trade imo. When you enlist in the army, or file for citizenship, you sign papers, you make an oath, it's just like how a nation functions. And while you're in that nation, you can be given the benefits of it too. Safety, food, opportunities to climb the ranks, etc. I don't think someone would trust a warrior, that didn't take the oath, to lead their clan one day.

I mean, i can understand why they are needed, but who's gonna say their mind won't change later on? Who's saying that the super loyal and wise warrior won't fall over a cat from the borders? Who's to say their Clan won't feel like home anymore? Sometimes it's totally unpredictable what's gonna happen next, so having to stick to an oath you made when nothing was happening even if it costs you happiness or comfort, shouldn't be obligated. The cat shouldn't be forced to stick to what they don't like because of something they made years ago.

I think it would be awesome if a skeptic character was introduced who truly questions the moral capacity of the clans and whether they as a whole make the correct decisions. Although you do sometimes get characters like these who do simply not vibe with the clan ways or believe in Starclan, I would really like if a character was introduced who actually DOES something about it. Like, they have a deep hatred for the things that cats are put through, and are determined to 'save' some of them..maybe through kidnapping? I don't know.
On oaths, though, It sort of reminds me of wedding vows. So many people say the words and never end up meaning them.
