Where do you think he should've gone, after dying by the paws of Hollyleaf?
He'd done nothing, really, and he might have been bluffing about killing. But again, he might have been not. He was a good warrior, favored by many, popular, in ThunderClan. But he was resentful of a thing that happened two years before. He's a creepy stalker, but he hadn't really DONE anything. He hurt Lionpaw, biased towards Squirrelflight and her offspring. But he was a good mentor to Birchfall; Birchfall literally says that.
I have no idea. Probably DF, but his crimes doesn't seem that... bad, compared to the other cats in the Dark Forest. He was probably shunned for a while in StarClan, but that's just a headcanon.

He should’ve gone to the Dark Forest, and TBC more than proves that.
He attempted to kill his own leader, plus the three, just because Squirrelflight didn’t love him the same. He attempted to kill 4 innocent cats, so he should’ve gone to the Dark Forest, period. If only Yellowfang didn’t make an excuse for him....

He helped rip away one life from Firestar and intended to take them all, he clearly deserves Dark Forest. Just because he didn't succeed means nothing. Darkstripe didn't succeed either after all

The dark forest. Trying to take one of Firestar's lives and trying to burn alive a group of cats and never regretting neither says a lot.

Nowadays, I don't think many people will say that he should've gone to StarClan. Just because he didn't succeed in his plans and seemed like a good warrior to other cats doesn't really mean anything. Trying to burn three young cats alive to get back at someone who broke his heart seasons ago is bad enough, but one was his former apprentice and the other was a blind medicine cat. He also tried to hurt Lionblaze even before the fire scene and indirectly took one of Firestar's lives, too. Ashfur was a monster and should've never been allowed to enter StarClan to begin with.

Ashfur should have gone to the Dark Forest after dying. This dude conspired to have Firestar killed just because his leader's daughter rejected him and later tried to murder Squirrelflight's "kits" for the same reason. Big yikes to that!

"He didn't do anything..." have you not read Long Shadows? And just because Ashfur was a good mentor, and just because he "might have been bluffing" about killing them, means that he shouldn't get any punishment other than being ignored for a little bit? Do you know how poor the "well they did other good things, therefore they should be absolved of the crime they committed" excuse is?
Ashfur should have gone to the DF. He needs some sort of punishment for attempting (and almost succeeding) to kill his leader, a she-cat who dared to take a mate that wasn't himself, and three innocent cats whose crime it was to be related to her. Just because he didn't succeed doesn't mean he shouldn't get punished.

And just because Ashfur was a good mentor. To add onto this, although he seemed to be a good mentor to Birchfall, I’d actually argue that he wasn’t a good mentor to Lionblaze while he mentored him and when he was a warrior prior to the fire scene. I can remember a scene when they started practice fighting and they took it way too far, claws unsheathed. He was hostile to Lionpaw, just off the basis that he believed he was Squirrelflight’s son.

Yes! It's the equivalent of a martial arts teacher just completely beating up a student whenever they practice. Imagine the consequences that would bring in the real world!

Just because he didn't succeed doesn't mean he shouldn't get punished. This also applies to Breezepelt as well. I see many, many people defend Breezepelt and say he only attempted to kill others, didn't succeed, or is a different person now, but that still doesn't matter. These cats TRIED to kill others, and that's bad enough on its own. A failed plan doesn't mean anything.

Dark Forest, but it's a shame he didn't live longer. Would have been fun to see the chaos he could have caused.

DF. His crimes are absolutely that bad.
In his conspiracy with Hawkfrost, they succeeded in killing Firestar once (so he'd actually murdered someone) and then there was ATTEMPTED murder against 3 other cats.
Remember, Darkstripe tried to kill 2 cats but never succeeded and he went to the DF. And Thistleclaw ALSO went to the DF, and other than killing a DF cat, we never see him murder anyone. Cats have gone to the DF for less.

Unpopular, but StarClan, and this is why (this is of course prior to knowing the events of TBC), Dark Forest is a place for cats who still hold anger and resentment and are dangerous at the time of their deaths. Ashfur had successfully ruined Squirrelflight’s life by the time of his death, she had to reveal her secret which caused her mate to resent her and her kids not to trust her. By doing this the feelings of rage and jealousy had pretty much subsided and he probably would’ve led a relatively normal life had he not been killed. Not that he necessarily doesn’t DESERVE the Dark Forest, but because he was satisfied with the damage he caused and not looking to do much evil by that point (besides revealing the secret, which isn’t something that sends you there), it makes sense to me that he went to StarClan

By doing this the feelings of rage and jealousy had pretty much subsided and he probably would’ve led a relatively normal life had he not been killed. Ashfur died before the entire secret was revealed, it's the entire reason why Hollyleaf killed him in the first place, to keep him quiet. He only knew part of the truth and was determined to reveal what he knew at the Gathering even after Squirrelflight, Lionblaze, and Jayfeather all tried to talk him out of it, so I think it's safe to assume he was still feeling vengeful even when Hollyleaf killed him, unless you want to argue he was either bluffing or would've changed his mind at the Gathering; either way, he had leverage against them that he could've used at absolutely any time. It's also implied that he'd hoped to get Squirrelflight exiled. I agree that Ashfur won even after death, and as we see in OotS, Brambleclaw broke up with Squirrelflight and her kits hated her, but who knows if he would've been satisfied with that if he'd lived, considering how petty he'd already proven himself to be. She still had Leafpool, so it's actually possible he would've tried to go after her just to make Squirrelflight hurt even more.

Whether you or I think it’s deserving is irrelevant in terms of my post, I’m talking purely based on how it’s worked in the series so far

"He did nothing really"
Bruuuuuh. He tried to kill four cats and partially succeeded in one, that one being his LEADER who could've perma-deathed given he got Firestar in a foxtrap that could strangle him over and over, and didn't show any sort of remorse over it and intended to destroy Squirrelflight's life just because she didn't return his feelings, and held that grudge even into Starclan to the point JAYFEATHER felt his hatred from afar as a Starclan cat.
Yes! He deserves cat hell! Just because he didn't succeed entirely doesn't mean his intentions to murder because he's a fricking incel aren't there! Hawkfrost has murderous intentions as well, and he didn't succeed either. And he still went to the DF. Darkstripe went to the DF for trying to kill multiple cats (and helping kill one) and not succeeding on his own but still not even regretting his actions. If intentions to do evil with no remorse or regret or anything are enough to send someone to the DF (And frankly, it's reasonable enough, one that tries and fails to kill could do it again if they really want to), then Ashfur is perfectly qualified for the Dark Forest as well.
