Flamepaw is a Firekin protagonist. He's Sparkpelt's son. Sparkpelt is Firestar's granddaughter.

We've gotten several protagonists who weren't related to Firestar already, and many of the cats featured on previous covers aren't related to him, either. ASC is far from the first to do this.

While we do still have one Firekin protag in Flamepaw, we do have two non-Firekin protags. That’s not really new though. Plenty of recent protags have been unrelated to Fire and Tiger (and by plenty, I mean three - Twigbranch, Violetshine, and Rootspring. All other protags have been Firekin and/or Tigerkin, and only one - Brambleclaw - wasn’t Firekin). However, not only are these protags completely unrelated to Fire and Tiger, but Frostpaw and Sunbeam have no relation to any former protagonists at all. And that will be a nice change of pace. These are completely fresh characters that the Erins have a lot more freedom to develop without having the weight of the fact that they’re related to former super important characters.

Flamepaw is Firestar's great grandson. I think it's fine though because it sounds like they'll be approaching the Firekin line from another point. It's clear the clan still reveres Firestar so it'll be interesting to see him coping
It seems like most of the close relatives struggle to live up with him. I feel like Squirrelflight and Lionblaze get the 'Your dad/grandpa was better than you' thing recently (which is interesting because I feel like Squirrel pretty much does exactly what her dad would. They're VERY similar. She's just a bit feistier)

So to be so far removed from Firestar but so heavily impacted by his legacy will be super interesting. The only cat we’ve truly seen try to live up to Firestar’s legacy - in a way where they specifically make comments about it, is Bramblestar, who isn’t even related to him. I think living up to Firestar’s legacy is something I would’ve liked to see Squirrelflight or Lionblaze struggle with more in the aftermath of his death, but I’m just happy to see it finally becoming a thing. The fact that he had such a great legacy and it didn’t seem to strongly impact his kits or grand-kits is a bit disappointing.

Pantherstripe, dude, re-read the blurb before making a thread lol. Flamepaw, a protagonist, is Firekin.

Lionblaze and Squirrelflight more. Their clan is like...revolting against them and acting like this wouldn't have happened with Firestar involved. Graystripe's relationship with Firestar is part of why Squirrelflight wants to lean on him. But I want that pushed further

But we never got to see from their POV the whole " omg I'm Firestar's daughter/grandson and I need to be just like him" kinda thing? Like, it sounds like the pressure on Flamepaw is almost self-imposed, whereas what we're seeing with Squirrelflight and Lionblaze in TBC is the Clan turning against them for showing favoritism. Idk, I feel like what we're gonna see with Flamepaw is more the kind of thing we should've expected to see from Squirrelflight or Lionblaze or even Sparkpelt.

*Flamepaw is crying in the corner because of this thread*
I now hope that he gets named Flameheart after HIS GREAT-GRANDFATHER Firestar.
While the upcoming protagonists Sunbeam and Frostpaw are not related to the cat version of Jesus, that isn't really a new concept as Brambleclaw or Stormfur from TNP as well as Violetshine and Twigbranch from AVoS weren't either.

Am I the only one who doesn't mind firekin protagonists?
Like some other people have said, we've had nonfirekin protagonists before. It's not that bad.
