does anyone here have a shopping addiction? I know there's some people out there who will spend endlessly on other stuff that they don't need, like tons of video games they'll never play or books they won't read, stuff like that.

I once bought an entire collection of Jane Austen novels in a fancy box, only to never read them. It cost me around 60 dollars and sat in my bookshelf for about a whole year until I finally got rid of it. The books were translated into German and somehow my brain didn't register how weird it is to read something that's supposed to be very british in another language that doesn't have the same cultural aspects and also didn't have much of a victorian era.
My father has the same problem but oddly enough we are both not hoarding entire libraries in our home, instead usually reselling what we don't read or bring it back to the shop we bought it from if the purchase wasn't too long ago and the bill is still somewhere to be found.
Doing this all over again, even after realizing the mistake, is definitely a problem though.

I wouldn't call it an addiction, but I do have to avoid some stores if I don't actively need something, otherwise if I go in, I know I'll leave with something dumb I'll never use. *Looks at soup thermos I bought even though I don't like most soups*

Not really, I dislike shopping.
I did impulsively buy a bunch of books (I think like... 5?) at once and I've only read 1 full book and am 3/4 of the way on another. It's been 2 years since I bought them. Somehow I've made more progress on a book I got for my birthday.

I do have a shopping addition but I am trying my best to control it, a couple of times there was a book fair in middle school and whenever I visit I just have to get something and usually I visit before and after school and I attempt to buy something with my vending machine money like an eraser or cheap books. Sometimes I get over excited going to any store and I would like to take all the things that catches my eye but my mom would say no. Half of the stuff I did ended of buying would be either given away or not used for a while, like the entire Harry Potter series, only read one chapter that kinda confuses me and now left untouched in my closet.

To me a shopping addiction would imply that you either go into needless credit card debt to obtain these items, or you would spend money on these items over spending your money on necessary bills like rent or utilities. In that aspect, no, I don't have an addiction, my financial priorities are straight. I do sometimes buy unnecessary items that just appeal to me and comfort me in some weird way to own, usually nostalgic in nature. My hobby is buying books that I CAN'T read because I speak no languages other than English, but buying these books makes me happy. However, all of those things have to be researched and sought out specifically online - I'm not one to go into a store and just buy needless things for the hell of it.

I wouldn't call it an addiction, but I do tend to impulse buy.

Addiction? No. But I am guilty of buying books/games I don't read or play. I always plan to ~eventually~.

not me but one of my roommates is an impulse buyer and my worst days are when she comes home from the dollar store with a bagful of junk that she won't let me throw away (but will never look twice at).
