Just finished rereading Alpha's Tale, and I sympathized with Wolf a lot. I don't like him at all by any means, but I felt bad for him a lot. His Pack abandoned him, treated him like crap because of the way he was born, and his mother was killed by Fierce Dogs. Then he falls in love with Calamity, and has to leave her because he's happier in the forest. I liked Calamity a lot, she had a nice name and it was sweet how she actually thought of him as a real Wolf. She wanted Wolf to leave so he could be happy, that's how much she cared about him. It's a very tragic, but a genuine couple. I kind of wish Calamity went after Wolf instead of staying with the Fierce Dogs.

I agree. Wolf did have a very sad backstory. Honestly, the novella's vibes reminded me of Crookedstar's Promise. It also doesn't help that he's a bit inconsistent in the series. Calamity was a really likeable character despite only appearing for a short bit of time. I wonder how she would take Alpha's treatment of Storm and just the character he had become. It's not like he lived a life he enjoyed in the end.

I don't think Wolf would have been as aggressive if she stayed in his life. He was really happy with her. But I really do feel like he belonged there with the Fierce Dogs. It was a Pack that would've looked after him no matter what their differences were, even if they did hate Wolf, he had shelter, and was happy with Calamity there. He even began to respect his own Alpha.Honestly, Wolf would've been better off there than the forest. He didn't seem happy at all after he returned when he lost her. He needed her.

It is quite a tragic love story. I agree with the fact that I think Calamity would've softened him. It's cool to wonder what would happen. What if she had fostered Storm? Like I know a subplot in the books is nature vs nurture, but with Calamity, we never saw her give into what a Fierce Dog's nature would supposedly be. I feel like she would've been good for Storm and turned the negative relationship between Storm and Wolf into a positive one. Calamity would have made a great Beta. She would be the warmth to Alpha's ice if that makes sense.
