I made this once and wanted to do it again, so just like last time, pick a cat you don't like and try to see things from their perspective. This isn't to change anyone's mind, but to at the very least reach some sort of understanding.
For example, I'm not a big fan of Ivypool even after she got past her jealousy towards Dovewing, but I also acknowledge that when it came to Tigerheart, she really was trying to do everything she could to have her sister stay loyal to ThunderClan, even though I don't condone the specific way she went about it (trying to encourage Dovewing to give Bumblestripe another chance even though they broke up moons ago).

I can see how Ashfur thinks, in a very twisted way, how Squirrelflight is only his. All incels are like that- they date or even just become friends with one unfortunate person and they think that person belongs to them and only them forever.

crowfeather had a sad life.
he lost his littermates, then his father. he thought he would have a normal warrior life until he was chosen by his father for the journey prophecy. he was the only chosen apprentice (squirrelpaw didnt count. she wasn't chosen, she just tagged along. meanwhile crowpaw WAS the rightful chosen cat for the prophecy itself). he already had a hard time getting along with others, but the fact he was the only apprentice and the only one without a recognizable face in the group, further isolated him. then, feathertail begins to take notice of him. she notices his lonliness, admires what bravery he does show, she sees beneath his grumpy outter shell, and this causes her kindness to wash over him. crowpaw, for once in his life, feels seen, heard, and appreciated. he gains confidence through getting close to feathertail, and this comfort with her turns into a crush. he gets attached to her easily because she's the only one at first to give him any sort of chance.
when feathertail dies, crowpaw's world is crushed. he lost the only cat he was truly close to on the journey. he was alone again. alone. the one word that expresses his existence. now it felt like he was back to square one with no one understanding him, but now he had depression and survivors guilt to add onto those feelings of loneliness. why didn't i die instead of her? why didn't i do more? why didn't i help with the plan more? all these thoughts haunted him.
after the journey, he decided: he would just live the best warrior life he could until he died. he didn't plan for anything more for himself because he felt like there was no point. with feathertail gone, he would be alone in windclan regardless. she was from riverclan. even if she lived, she would have chosen her clan over him. part of him must have known this since he threw away any dreams or hopes he had for anything more to his life...this chanced when he met leafpaw. right away, leafpaw's kindness washed over him just like how feathertail's did. he sought after the same comfort, the same kindness, and he found all of that in leafpaw.
he was afraid of getting close to anyone, let alone another she-cat, let alone a she-cat who was also from another clan. he hated himself even more: not only did he still have guilt and pain and regret from losing feathertail, but he now hated himself for betraying her, and himself, by having feelings for leafpaw so soon. he didn't want to get close to leafpaw in fear of losing her like he lost feathertail. he put on an angry act to push leafpaw away, wanting to prevent any bond from forming...but it was too late. overcome with wanting to be comforted and loved again, he saved leafpaw and they confessed their feelings.
finally, crowfeather's loneliness was gone yet again. for once in his life, he wanted to take hold of his desires and destiny. he wanted to be selfish just this one time in order to take what happiness he found in leafpool and run with it...literally. he wanted to run away with leafpool, viewing it as his only chance to truly be happy. he found happiness again and he was so afraid to lose it again and be depressed again, that he was willing to throw away his warrior life and his whole clan. after all, didn't he want to be a loyal warrior only to die and finally find happiness in starclan with feathertail? what if he didn't view the warrior life as a good thing anymore now that he found someone else in the living world to attach himself and his happiness to?
once he and leafpool finally ran away, he felt freed. no more rules to hold him back. nothing could stop him from his happiness. being selfish for once in his life would have worked if not for midnight. midnight brought them back, and once the badger attack was over, leafpool HAD to pick her clan and medicine cat role over him. she was obligated to, but he must have known part of her always would have missed and loved her clan too. she truly couldnt have left her home for him...
it hurt. the one cat he thought he could open up with, to find happiness again with, betrayed him. he was once again left alone, depressed and again full of regret. he probably viewed running with leafpool as his last attempt to find happiness in his life...and it was torn away from him.
since he didn't view the warriors life as good, he felt trapped. he had to return to windclan too. what else was waiting for him in the world without leafpool by his side? he couldn't run away to be alone forever. he had to return to windclan...but now his reputation and life was ruined: everyone viewed him as a traitor. it was humiliating.
when he became mates with nightcloud, he must have been going back to his previous plan before meeting leafpool: just live a loyal windclan warrior life and die to be happy in the afterlife. maybe once he and leafpool were both in starclan, he could be happy again. he could do whatever necessary to live that loyal life until he eventually died and reunited with leafpool in the afterlife. it was a plan.
when he became a father to breezepelt, he was scared once again. he didn't know his father, so maybe he didn't know how to be a father? and since he didnt love nightcloud, he found it difficult to love their kits openly. he loved breezepelt deep down, but he couldn't show it. how could he get close to his new family if he was still afraid of finding happiness only to live in fear of it going away. he didnt allow himself to be happy at all. he couldnt be happy with nightcloud, a cat he didnt love. he respected her, but it wasnt the same as love. he couldn't be happy with his son because he was afraid of ruining him with the lack of fatherhood he had. getting close to someone would mean having to live with the constant paranoia and fear that that closeness would later hurt him.
when the secret was revealed, crowfeather doubled down. he convinced himself that he came too far to admit to the kits being his now. as far as his clanmates knew, he turned a new leaf: he proved his loyalty time and time again, had a windclan mate and windclan kit. he was doing well and had seemed to move on from his past mistake. he didn't want to lose what he built, and he was still hurt about leafpool. but since he didnt want to face those old feelings, he doubled down. rejected his three thunderclan kits, and told leafpool to her face that their time together was long over and she meant nothing to him...but it was a lie. he still had feeling sfor leafpool. feelings of regret for not being bale to be happy with her like he planned moons ago.

Mapleshade. I hate her a lot, but I can see her thought process.
Mapleshade took a half-Clan mate, which was a mistake, but she loved him and he loved her too. She lied about their father to save her own skin. When she had Appledusk’s kits and the truth was revealed, she was attacked and berated by her Clanmates and exiled along with the kits. She believed going to RiverClan with Appledusk was her only choice, so she risked her kits lives to cross a flooded river during a storm in order to hopefully make it across safely. The kits drown and she nearly does until Appledusk pulls her out. She is devastated when her kits drown and Appledusk is instantly put on trial. He chooses his Clan over Mapleshade, having even took another mate in RiverClan already. She is angered as he calls their love a mistake and doesn’t ask her what the kits’ names were. Darkstar doesn’t allow Mapleshade a place in RiverClan and her kits are buried in RiverClan territory. After that, she is completely enraged.
She starts to have delusional hallucinations of her kits unable to get to StarClan unless she gets revenge. So, she goes completely mentally bonkers and does so, killing Ravenwing and Frecklewish, cats she believed wronged her, and accidentally killing Appledusk when she was going for Reedshine instead. She is killed by Perchpaw and bleeds out to death in the barn. Myler tries to help or comfort her, and she snaps at him in her rage and pain.
I can see where she’s coming from throughout her novella, but her mentality and thought process are why I cannot stand her. Plus what she does after her death makes it so much worse. Interesting villain? Sure. Likeable to me? No way. Can I see her mental state? Yes. Do I have sympathy for her? Only prior to her killing.

Someone pick Thistleclaw or Rainflower I dare y’all The only thing I can possibly even think about Rainflower is that Crookedstar being permanently disabled also skewered her vision of him and her expectations for greatness. Never will her actions be even nearly excusable, she abused her own child, but I can see how she ended up the way she did. From the start she'd gloat about her kits, let them do reckless things, and was devastated when one of them paid the price for her negligence. So she tried to disassociate with the source of her shame by straight up abandoning her own son, which is just plain horrible. She put all her attention and efforts toward her other son, thinking that he's the only thing worth it at this point, and constantly tried to use one child to put the other one down. However, no matter how much she tried, it seems that only made Crooked try even harder to get her approval and love again, when he ended up being destined for greatness instead. Later you can somewhat see her start to break her cold veil when she eventually cheers with the other cats after Crooked becomes deputy. But what relationship he and his mother had left became unsalvageable when she dies, and thus they never get a proper conclusion to that. Something similar happened with Tallstar and his father, but at least his father came back as a StarClan cat at some point. Is Rainflower a horrible cat that did horrible things? Yeah. But I guess that's why she's a good character to hate as an antagonist, she was written well in that sense, and also not redeemable either. On the other hand, with Thistleclaw, and since this is a sensitive subject, I think it's obvious enough the dude was just manipulating a child's crush on him to convince her to join the Dark Forest as a trainee. That's all I can really say about that. When it comes to his character in Bluestar's SE, I think it's pretty obvious with that one as well, and probably has already been said a million times. But Bluestar's hypocrisy in that book really didn't hate her case. Him and Snowfur had a pretty good relationship, and Bluestar was always disapproving of it from the start, thinking her sister mooning for him was annoying. He and Blue never got along in general, but they tolerated one another for Snow. However, when Snowfur dies, Blue blamed herself, and Thistle blamed her as well, and his anger toward her just hardened into heated hatred at that point. Because despite him claiming that Snow nor White are suited for the DF, it's still obvious he cared about them even if he's a villain. Not all villains are 100% void of any types of morals, or incapable of love, would make them boing imo. Thistleclaw was twisted, but he never involved his family on the darker side of his character, via the Dark Forest, unlike his actions with Spotted later, when he was obviously using her for his own gain. It also doesn't help that Thistleclaw was the first TC cat to even suspect Bluestar's relationship with Oakheart, when they found him crossing the boarder. And even says it to her face, which is...quite ironic imo. So I can see why he had so much hostility toward Bluestar especially after Snowfur's death and his suspicions with her breaking the code. At the end of the day, they're both horrible character, but personally I think the Erins did a better job with Rainflower, and really weren't sure what to do with Thistleclaw, which is why his character flip-flopped so much.

Bumblestripe wasn't trying to be creepy or obsessive with Dovewing. He just admired her warriors skills and thought he'd like to be her mate. He liked her sensitivity, her playfulness, her kindness and devotion to her Clan. The closer they got, the more time they spent together, the more he enjoyed her company, adored her personality.
When she broke up with him in BrS, he was hurt but didn't treat or judge her harshly, instead trying again. Maybe he even saw how conflicted and troubled she was (because of Tigerheart, but at the time he didn't know it). He wanted to be there for her, and in AVoS he attempted to ask her again. Seeing Purdy die, he realized the same might happen to Dovewing any moment (especially with the Darktail problem hanging above their heads) and wanted her to know how much he loved her in case anything horrible happened. He was rejected again.
Later, he hears about her running away, then comes back, a mother of three kits and the mate of Tigerheartstar. He is hurt deeply by this and after all his efforts of trying to cheer her up, comfort her, worry about her, get her attention, he is still cast aside in favor of Tigerstar. Every time he sees her he thinks of the cat he should have been for her, the cat he wasn't good enough to be, the one only Tigerstar could fit for his beloved Dovewing. Though he knows one day he'll accept Dovewing as Tigerstar's mate, the hurt is too fresh and sharp, so he'll focus on his loyalty to his Clan first and foremost until he either finds a new mate or simply accept Dovewing's rejection and move on.
(This was the first one I wrote, so I hope it wasn't too bad)

Going to do one for Hawkfrost, who I don't so much hate as find utterly boring. I'm trying to play into his psyche here and speculating a little bit on why he's such a lackey and seems to lack any drive aside from obeying Tigerstar.
Hawkfrost's early life was defined by the fact that they left his brother behind, abandoned him to drown. Perhaps one would think that this sparked a concern in him about what if he was deemed forgettable, expendable. Thankfully, he has the stories of being the son of the great Tigerstar to make him feel special and valuable. Alas, he soon learns that Tigerstar was a monster and despot, what a betrayal of his expectations. But without Tigerstar's magnificent legacy, what is he then, now that the rug has been pulled out from under him? He's just a half-rogue outsider to Riverclan, that's what. So he'll have to work extremely hard to prove himself then, we see these fears as he encourages Mothwing to be get better at hunting so they maintain good face and his fear that her becoming a medicine cat is throwing away what little standing they have left.
It is no wonder then that he fakes the sign, he has to be sure that his sister(and by proxy him) finally have something to show for all of their hard work, so other cats will recognize them. He had to be sure that they would get the high positions that they deserved, after all. Hawkfrost realizes now that lying is a great way to substitute for his lack of achievements and lineage. It might even be enough to propel him up to being deputy, or leader one day even. Finally he has his chance when Mistyfoot vanishes, cats finally pay attention to him alone, and there is absolutely no danger of him ever being forgotten. And then she comes back, and he is quickly reminded that no matter how hard he tries, he will never be better than a more well established clan cat. It doesn't matter if Leopardstar likes him if the rest of a clan won't support him. This is made worse when Sasha reappears and his legacy starts to hang over his head again.
When Mudclaw's rebellion begins, Hawkfrost sees an opportunity to advance his station. If Riverclan will never let him be deputy, maybe he can seek greatness in Windclan. Then he'll avenge himself on all those cats who never saw his potential, who always snubbed him and considered him second best. And then the rebellion fails, and Hawkfrost knows that he will be branded as a traitor and a coward for his part in it. So he stabs Mudclaw in the back; if he can't be deputy of Windclan, he'll be the hero who stopped Mudclaw! It is fortunate that Brambleclaw sees this happen, and not only that, but believes him. Hawkfrost can sense too that Brambleclaw is like him, a kindred soul who is not leader when he should be. And they are connected then through Tigerstar, who may be a monster, but he's also the only constant in Hawkfrost's life. He gives him inherent value and meaning, a history he can look up to. Why wouldn't he seek his approval, why shouldn't he aspire to greatness? His fear of being forgotten warps into desperation for approval and wild ambition.
He HAD to manipulate Mothwing, it was the only way that he get what he deserved. And besides, she should be happy to do it, she's only a medicine cat because of him, Mothwing is so ungrateful! She should see that they will never win if they play fair, by the clans' rules. For the kin of Tigerstar, you have to take what you can get, because you will never be enough on your own, no matter how hard you try. Brambleclaw has become deputy, but Hawkfrost is still passed up. He feels happy for his brother, but also burning envy. He helped out Brambleclaw; why isn't he returning the favor? But Tigerstar still says kind words to him, still gives him dreams of a great destiny that no one will ever be able to overlook. So Hawkfrost decides to do a little more quid pro quo, help Brambleclaw and maybe he'll finally return the favor. It is serendipitous for him to see Ashfur, and hear the rage in his voice. And so the fox trap is set. And then Brambleclaw spits in his face. No matter how Hawkfrost had taken such great risks to help him, Brambleclaw ignored him.
And why wouldn't Brambleclaw? He has what he wants, he is deputy now, and has no need for Hawkfrost anymore. He has forgotten Hawkfrost's help and kinship. When Hawkfrost screams "you care more for kin than power", one should see the hidden layers; Brambleclaw has turned his back on both kin and power, and like a fool expects to not have to reciprocate in helping Hawkfrost. What an ingrate, how selfish. Hawkfrost attacks in a rage, knowing he is a doomed if he does not win, because Firestar will not keep quiet about an attempted murder and Riverclan will exile him at the very least. And then he'll be back to being a rootless rogue, a failed destiny to his great father, the only one who saw he could be great too. And then he dies.
In death, perhaps Hawkfrost thought things would get better. He is closer to his father now, after all. But he soon realizes that death is just a prison. He is closer to his father, yes, but while his father tosses him the barest scraps of affection, he always sets his eyes on his living descendants. None of the Dark Forest cats respect him as great in his own right, and so always he must defer to his father. Always he is lesser to the father, never the equal. But that's okay. Because at least Tigerstar cares, at least Tigerstar will never stop giving him SOME value inherently. At least when he recruits Ivypool and others into the forest, they look upon him with awe for a while, so he enjoys that. He could always try to strike out on his own, become a great Dark Forest cat in his own right...but what if he can't? What if, like in life, just trying isn't good enough? You need a heritage, you need roots for your legacy! So he doesn't, he stays under Tigerstar's shadow.
When the time for the final war comes, Hawkfrost fights harder than any other Dark Forest cat does, perhaps trying to see that spark of approval in Tigerstar's eyes, that he will finally say "You are my equal now, and you always deserved this". It's probably a mercy then that he disappeared before he could see Tigerstar's final words to Firestar. In the end, Hawkfrost died exactly as he was terrified to die, forgotten and expendable.

Lizardstripe.
I can actually understand why sometimes she acted like she did. I always thought one of her greatest flaws were pride and arrogance. She was too proud during her life, wich led her to make bad decisions.
She was always really proud about becoming a warrior. She was really proud of hunting and fighting for her Clan, wich could eventually have made her look down upon medicine cats, it could also have been one of the reasons she sometimes attempted to make fun of Yellowfang, sneering that it must be really hard to hunt leaves. Her friend Foxheart encouraged her and said the same things, so she arrogantly thought that she was right, but when Stonetooth shut her up, she just lets out a hiss and pads away, unable to accept she's wrong.
Due to this same pride, when she discovers she's expecting kits, it absolutely crushes her pride. She dosen't want to go soft over having a litter, and not being strong anymore. Wich leads her to resent her kits. It even crushes her more when Brokenkit is pushed onto her- she dosen't want to waste milk on a cat who's mother could even be a kittypet. (Remember when i said she looked down upon anyone who wasn't a warrior?) It gets even worse when she cracks under the pressure because the leader is the one pushing the kit onto her, and she can't reject. So it eventually ruins her pride once again.
Despite her initial hatred for her kittens, they are warriors, afterall- she eventually learns to proud of them, of course, except the possible Half-Clan kit under her care. So she allows her kittens to bully Brokenkit, out of spite for something that was unwanted and ruined her image in the first place.
It gets even worse when the cat she used to taunt when she was younger, Yellowfang, heals her wounds and gets her back to health. It must have been a moment of crushed pride for her.
One of her greatest flaws was probably pride, pride in everything she did and her rank as a warrior.
This was really challenging to make.
