Hey, I’m Ivy. I’m a wildlife rehabilitator (specializing in songbirds and rabbits) and a sort-of ornithologist (I’m not currently employed as one but I’m doing an independent research study on Bald Eagles right now so I guess it counts?). Now that this board has been moved and I remembered it exists, I decided I’d make a den to chat with people.
Here are some of the things I’m interested in, if anyone wants to talk about them (otherwise I’ll talk about pretty much anything really): - Birds - Animal genetics - Warriors - Wings of Fire - True crime (I mainly watch/listen to The First 48, Forensic Files, and Dateline) - Lioden and Wolvden - Minecraft I’ll add to this later when I think of more things (I’m also going to make this page look fancier later when I’m not on mobile)
Anyway, ask me whatever or tell me about yourself or just say hi!

Hi there Ivy! It's cool that you're a wildlife rehabilitator! Who's your favorite warrior cat, and your least favorite?

Hi there Ivy! It's cool that you're a wildlife rehabilitator! Who's your favorite warrior cat, and your least favorite? Hawkwing is my favorite, because I relate to him a lot, and I’d say my least favorite (aside from super obvious choices like Rainflower, Brokenstar, etc.) would be either Flametail or Raggedstar. Who is your favorite/least favorite?

My favorite cat would have to be Alderheart. I don't know why, but I like him a lot! My least favorite...That's hard...Ummm, I would have to say Spottedleaf. I really don't like her. Let's see...What's your favorite food?

Let's see...What's your favorite food? Good choices; Alderheart’s probably somewhere in my top 20, and I don’t care for Spottedleaf either. My favorite food is pasta. What’s yours?

I like Ramen noodles a lot, but my favorite food would have to be french fries! What's your favorite song? I’m honestly not 100% sure. I feel like I’m one of the few people that doesn’t really listen to music a lot. It’s too distracting if I’m trying to work on something, but not engaging enough if I’m solely listening to it. I prefer podcasts or YouTube videos instead if I want to listen to something and focus on it. I do listen to instrumental music sometimes though, and I generally leave the car radio on a pop station, but I wouldn’t really say I have one particular favorite song. How about you?

The songs I listen to are mostly from Youtube and stuff. I really like all the songs from the Hazbin hotel series, and I also love listening to JT Music. My favorite song, at the moment, is Alastor's reprise or Hungry for another one. I also like Are we there yet by Black gryph0n though! Ivyfalcon

Ah, it's cool to see someone else interested in true crime! Do you have any cases that really interest you? I've also been wanting to get into WoF, what are your favorite books from that series?

Ah, it's cool to see someone else interested in true crime! Do you have any cases that really interest you? I've also been wanting to get into WoF, what are your favorite books from that series? There’s not a whole lot of “high profile” cases that I heavily follow or anything, but I’m always interested in new developments in famous cold cases, especially because I’m also interested in the technology/techniques used to figure out new information (ex. Zodiac Killer and how they fairly recently cracked one of his cyphers and the Golden State Killer and how they finally caught him). I’m pretty interested in the forensic science aspect as well as just the “story” aspect to true crime. How about you, any particular favorites? My favorite WoF books are books 2 and 3 from the first arc ( The Lost Heir and The Hidden Kingdom), books 1 and 4 from the second arc ( Moon Rising and Talons of Power), and book 3 from the third arc ( The Poison Jungle). The standalone book (basically like a Warriors SE) Legends: Darkstalker was also really good (it’s best to read that one during the second arc, easiest to just read in release date order in my opinion). I enjoyed the plots and POV characters of arc one books 2 and 3 especially, and I’d say The Hidden Kingdom is probably my overall favorite (though I haven’t read many of these in a while so if I reread my opinions might change a bit). Arc two’s ending was less strong than arc one’s in my opinion, but I liked the protagonists from books 1 and 4 (I found them personally relatable). Book 5 of arc two is probably my least favorite overall; I wouldn’t say it’s awful, but (without spoiling anything) I’d just have to say the plot seemed weak and not tied up as well as it probably should’ve been, and a lot of the book was just filler. Rest of the arc was okay though. Arc three book 3 was actually great and I enjoyed the plot and characters, but book 4’s plot is weaker (I loved the POV character in 4 though). I’m hoping arc three gets a better book 5 than arc two did, but it’s been decent so far, as long as it ends up with a good conclusion. Sorry that was probably a bit long, and also sorry for the delayed response (I’ve been on vacation).

Ivyfalcon I've always been fascinated with serial killers, so that's where most of my knowledge of true crime comes from. Some of my favorite serial killers to research are Ted Bundy, John Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Albert Fish, Israel Keyes, Richard Ramirez, Dennis Rader, the Zodiac, John Robinson, and Ed Gein. I'm actually reading American Predator right now, it's a very interesting look into Keyes and his crimes. Other cases I like learning about are the murder of James Bulger, the Powell family murders, and the Watts family murders. I look forward to reading WoF! I was thinking of getting one of the non-arc books as well as some of the first arc, so I'll keep my eyes out for Darkstalker next time I go to B&N. I'm torn between that one and the Winglets collection. Is the third arc supposed to be finishing this year?

Hi Ivy do you have any facts about birds? - American Dippers, North America’s only aquatic songbird, molt all of their flight (wing and tail) feathers at once rather than two at a time like most birds. This strategy leaves them flightless for around a week while the feathers grow back, but they are still fine during this period as they catch most of their food, insects, by diving anyway. - Hunmingbirds go into a state called torpor every night in which their heart rate can decrease from 500 beats per minute to only around 50, and their body temperature can also decrease by up to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. They do this extreme lowering of their metabolism so that they don’t starve to death during the night, because at their normal daytime metabolism they would run out of energy without eating for that long. - Crows can remember human faces for years, and will even pass information on about humans that have wronged them to their chicks, so that they can also identify certain dangerous humans despite never having seen them before. If you want any about a specific bird, feel free to ask!
