Upon reading The Place of No Stars and seeing Darkstripe again, as one of the cats working for Ashfur, I was a little bit disappointed. Because, while I never expected for him to suddenly go and find a heart, I'm still a bit miffed that my wish for a sort of begrudging redemption for him, both on his part and when it comes to StarClan, seems to not be a possibility anymore.
I'm guessing that this has a lot to do with nostalgia as I will always look at Darkstripe and continue seeing him as a ThunderClan cat, despite the fact that he betrayed them so many times.

I'm not really surprised. After trying to kill Sorrelkit, Darkstripe always seemed pretty irredeemable in my eyes and I think it's well within his character for him to basically latch onto the strongest cat he can find, especially now that Tigerstar is gone for good this time.

Darkstripe I feel is one of those cats that probably wouldn't want a redemption as long as he gets to keep following the biggest bad head-honcho. With his Senpai Tigerstar I gone, Ashfur is his best option for that now.

I think they just picked the cat most people found to have the most "pathetic evil" and Darkstripe fit the bill. When I read TPB so many years ago he actually gave a pretty powerful vibe in the earlier books. He was considered a strong warrior by other cats I believe and Tigerclaw's 2nd in command. Seemed really evil in The Dangerous Path conspiring with Tigerclaw, but out of some sense of loyalty instead of the pathetic vibes he gives now.
Starting in The Darkest Hour they really gave him more a pathetic vibe with losing to a starved Stonefur then joining BloodClan. They further this in TNP with him being scared of The Dark Forest when talking with Tigerstar. Then in Omen of the Stars it's shown he's not respected at all either by the other Dark Forest cats. He latches on to Brokenstar (the alpha cat) by fleeing when he's gone despite Tigerstar still alive. I guess the pathetic evil vibe is only complete by serving as Ashfur's enforcer, latching on to dominant powers. At least Mapleshade and Silverhawk showed they only listened to Ashfur because he could provide benefits, but we don't see this characterized in Darkstripe.

I personally hope Darkstripe never gets a redemption- I doubt he'll even want one. He just wants to latch on to the stronger evil guy.

I think you put too much faith into Darkstripe. He's a lackey, he never thinks for himself, he wants someone stronger to tell him what to do

Ah, Darkstripe, still proving he's the lowest scum in this series. Dude makes my top 5 most hated cats list easily. I got annoyed every time he said something slick in TPB.
