My name is Fedir, I am nearly 18, and I am from Ukraine. In this den, it is mostly for talking with anyone who would want to talk with me, but I will also post knowledge about Ukraine, and Ukrainian language lessons to the best of my ability. Here is one fact about my language that might scare people off from learning it, it has three genders, feminine, masculine, and neuter. If you're wondering why Ukraine language has three genders for nouns, it is because it helps the language sound more musical. I think this is enough for an introduction, I hope to make new friends here.

The language lesson for today is the alphabet, but first, here is a common misconception to clear up. Ukrainian and Russian are not they same language, they both use the Cyrillic script, there is actually smaller difference between languages like Spanish and French, than Ukrainian and Russian. Introducing...The Alphabet A a - this letter is pronounced like ah and it's a hard vowel.
Б б - this letter makes the sound B sound in English and it's a consonant
В в - this letter makes the V sound in English and it's a consonant
Г г - this letter makes the H sound in English and it's a consonant. This letter is also unique, because in for example Russian, it makes the G sound in English.
Ґ ґ - this letter makes the G sound in English, also by G sound I mean like in ground, not geometry, it's a consonant, and this letter was once banned.
Д д - this letter makes the D sound in English and it's a consonant.
Е е - this letter sounds like e in shed and it's a hard vowel.
Є є - this letter is pronounced like 'yeah' and it's a soft vowel.
Ж ж - this letter is pronounced like it's a bit hard to explain, it sounds a bit like a bee saying shh, and it's a consonant.
З з - this letter is pronounced like Z in English and it's a consonant.
И и - this letter is pronounced like a bit like ee but shorter and deeper, and it's a hard vowel.
І і - this letter is pronounced like ee and it's a hard vowel.
Ї ї - this letter is pronounced like yee and it's a soft vowel.
Й й - this letter is pronounced like yuh and it's a consonant.
К к - this letter is pronounced the same as the K in English and it's a consonant.
Л л - this letter is pronounced like L in English and it's a consonant.
М м - this letter is pronounced the same as M in English and it's a consonant.
Н н - this letter is pronounced like N in English and it's a consonant.
О о - this letter is pronounced like au and it's a hard vowel.
П п - this letter is pronounced like P in English and it's a consonant.
Р р - this letter makes the sound of a rolled r and it's a consonant.
С с - this letter is pronounced like S in English and it's a consonant.
Т т - this letter is pronounced the same as T in English and it's a consonant.
У у - this letter is pronounce like oo and it's a hard vowel.
Ф ф - this letter is pronounced like F in English and it's a consonant.
Х х - this letter is pronounced like huh a bit like Г but more raspy? Deep? It's hard to explain. This letter is a consonant.
Ц ц - this letter is another one that is hard to explain, it's pronounced a bit like ts, and it's a consonant.
Ч ч - this letter is pronounced like ch and it's a consonant.
Ш ш - this letter is pronounced like sh and it's a consonant.
Щ щ - this letter's pronunciation is very similar to the letter above, but imagine stuttering slightly in the middle of saying sh(stutter)h, it's a bit like that, it's a consonant.
Ь - this letter doesn't make any sound, it's a soft sign.
Ю ю - this letter is pronounced like yoo and it's a soft vowel.
Я я - last but not least, this letter is pronounced like yah and it's a soft vowel. Some of these letters make different sounds depending on what letters they're paired with, but that's a lesson for another day. I hope my poor explanation of things didn't make it too difficult to understand for whomever decides to check this out.
