What do you think about this? I'm rereading TNP right now, and Brambleclaw at first thinks Hawkfrost isn't very trustworthy at all, and he doesn't want to be recognized the same as him. But when Hawkfrost carelessly tells him that they share blood, he's immediately mesmerized that he has a half-sibling who might share his experiences of tigeracism.
Squirrelflight was wrong to just say Hawkfrost was an evil guy, but Brambleclaw was too daft and blinded on this one. Just the fact that Hawk and he share blood made him want to get close to him and be bffs, when before, he thought he was somebody to keep a close eye on. Besides, RiverClan cats joining Mudclaw's rebellion with Hawkfrost literally leading it and Mudclaw rasping their deal should've rang some alarm bell, like, "Maybe Mudclaw IS telling the truth?"

So many BrambleSquirrel threads. This forum's going to explode!
All jokes aside, Squirrelflight was totally right in the situation. Brambleclaw was too eager to meet his kin that he became blindly loyal to Hawkfrost. Squirrelflight was right to be wary of him, because he was too eager to get territory and he was very battle-hungry, and she had even more right when he plotted with Mudclaw to take over RiverClan and blatantly confessed it.
Brambleclaw never saw any red flags on him, still thinking he was his innocent brother, and even worse he followed him in the Dark Forest and trained there with his half-brother to plot against Firestar and gain power. Atleast Tawnypelt rejected power, so why couldn't he do the same? At this point he was just following his brother blindly.
Brambleclaw has every right to meet his kin, but why didin't he see any red flags? Or atleast ask himself, "why" before trusting him like he did nothing? I think i'm realizing what people say when he's obsessed with kin.

I'm inclined to say Squirrelflight was more in the right in that situation. Brambleclaw had a right to want to know his kin, but he really should have suspected something after Mudclaw just blatantly confessed that Hawkfrost was conspiring with him. Squirrelflight could have handled that situation better though.

Can I just say that this entire conflict between them irritates me to no end, even now several years later? Like... They were both in the wrong in this situation.
Brambleclaw was training in the Dark Forest with his father, whom he tried so hard to separate himself from in life, and Hawkfrost. No, Hawkfrost wasn’t blatantly evil at that point, but Brambleclaw was showing a lot of loyalty to a cat from another Clan - yes, Hawkfrost was his half brother, but he wasn’t his littermate, they didn’t grow up together, he didn’t even know they were brothers until they had both been warriors for moons. The way I see it, there was no reason for Brambleclaw to show such loyalty to a RiverClan cat, all the whole completely ignoring his mate’s concerns over it.
Squirrelflight was also really awful in this whole situation though. Rather than trusting her mate to be loyal to his Clan above all else, she continuously accused him of being loyal to Hawkfrost and stuff like that. Her constant accusations only pushed him more toward Hawkfrost and the Dark Forest, because he clearly wasn’t feeling very accepted by the cat who was supposed to love him. She never really took the time to talk to him rationally about her concerns or to understand his feelings on the matter.
This entire conflict in TNP annoys me to no end and is one of the biggest reasons I can never get through the arc while re-reading.

Squirrelflight should have handled the situation better. Brambleclaw had the right to know his kin. Though Hawkfrost wasn't a good character, Brambleclaw's family is scattered which of course would have made him feel lonely. If Leafpool decided to live in WindClan with Crowfeather, guaranteed Squirrelflight would have been the same with wanting to spend time with her. The whole conflict was ugly because I think Squirrelflight could have had more empathy and understanding to Brambleclaw's situation instead of being stubborn.

just bc squirrelflight was right doesnt mean she handled it the right way. brambleclaw was too desperate to get close to kin, while squirrelflight was too aggressive in trying to prove she was right.

I think both Bramble and Squirrel could have acted better and tried to understand each other. Squirrelflight was right, in the end, but I think she handled it too aggressively and didn't try to understand how kin was so important to Brambleclaw, and Brambleclaw wouldn't see anything bad about Hawkfrost and try to see why Squirrelflight was so suspicious of him.
