How exactly the idea to try and talk to ... other people ... other friends ... had jumped into Myrnin's head would have been any outside perspective's guess. The truth? Myrnin didn't trust himself. The House was safer. The people in the House felt, by extension, also safer. Maybe. Or maybe it was the fact they almost seemed more permanent. If he could keep them. He hated the idea of not being able to keep them. Then there was the gold eye thing of course. The getting no older while your friends did, of course. And the ever present problem of boredom and just seeing if he could. So ... he'd started working on something. Working to see if he could modify his little backpack (time machine, really) and a mirror and a couple other items here and there. He didn't actually want to try hopping into another blinkers world - there was all sorts of problems there - but he did want to know if he could see it. He wanted to know if he could talk, even. He didn't test out Kelsier's world first. It wasn't anything personal, he just knew a couple people better. Nothing. None of it worked. So he kept tweaking. He didn't know what would work, but he at least had a good idea that something would happen eventually. Just going through all the options offered opportunity to keep working out new calculations. Boredom, remember? Issue with new calculations was the fact that new problems - and mistakes - so easily arose. So when the hole opened up under him and dumped him quite literally through space, Myrnin wasn't expecting it. What you got for meddling, he supposed, as he tried to adjust his trajectory of falling. He caught the fact that his little hole in the sky grew fainter and fainter until he couldn't even see it. (How far up was he?) He turned his body, unsure where he was, but suddenly faced with the roofs of what he assumed were buildings coming up fast. He managed exactly one explicate before falling directly into them ...

Kelsier wasn’t doing much, really. Oh, he had a couple things lined up, he planned on stealing some more atium in a bit, but for the moment, he was just standing on the roof, looking at the mists. Considering them, as he often did. He’d tried getting to other worlds before. More specifically, Nico’s. He hadn’t ever tried anyone else’s, mostly because he didn’t care if he could get to a different one if he couldn’t get to Nico’s. What was the point of that? He didn’t even want to know. He was looking up. People so rarely thought to do, but he was Mistborn. Mistborn thought vertically. They had to. So he did see the speck in the sky that was quickly resolving itself to be person shaped. He narrowed his eyes, watching it hurtle towards him. Mistborn? He burned bronze, checking for Allomancy...nothing. He didn’t move but his dagger was in his hand in a moment, and he stepped back, into the shadows, hopefully out of sight or at least less obvious. He had no idea what was coming at his roof, but he didn’t plan on getting caught off guard, whatever it was.

Pity what it was - who it was, rather - wasn't using Allomancy. It likely would have meant that Myrnin didn't hit the roof with a bone cracking crunch. The vampire almost rolled off the roof on impact and there was certainly plenty of damage done to the roof. The sound that escaped Myrnin's mouth was a very soft scream, that he only just managed to hold in. Just a little. At least it didn't echo everywhere, only in the immediate area. He didn't get up. He just lay there for a bit, body occasionally slipping a couple inches while his own bones healed. Pain arched across his spine and the back of his head and he looked up at the grey sky without really being sure where he was. Eventually, a word did slip out of his mouth. "Ow." Then he blinked a couple times. "Where ...?"

Kelsier watched, eyes wide in surprise and not a little worry, as the thing - person? - hurtled towards him. He stepped back, daggers in hand, ready for an attack. But the thing didn’t slow down. It resolved itself into a human shaped object and slammed into the roof at full speed instead, bones and roof crunching at the same moment. Well...whoever it was, they were probably dead after a fall like that. Kelsier moved closer, daggers at the ready anyway, until he recognized the shape, and gave a slow smile. “Myrnin,” he greeted, putting the daggers away. He came closer and crouched next to the other man, looking him over. “I hope you didn’t break anything you can’t fix.” He had no idea how the hell Myrnin was here. Or even why he was here. But he was pleased anyway, even if he did have a lot of questions.

It was a bit debatable on how far 'break anything you can't fix' stretched. Sure, Myrnin could heal from a whole lot, but there was a bit of a requirement. The smell of blood this close - a bit of his own, but mostly Kelsier's - hit his nose. He pushed himself up on his hands - both of which seemed to be working at least. Then he found himself looking directly up at his friend. There was a toothy grin. A fangy grin, rather. "Heeeeeeeeeeeeey," he hissed. Then he dragged himself forward a bit and tried to make an active attempt to bite Kelsier's ankle, since it was the only place he could actually aim to reach in his current condition.

Kelsier raised an eyebrow as Myrnin looked up. The vampire didn’t look so good, but he supposed that was to be expected, with the falling-from-the-sky thing and all. At least he was conscious, and didn’t seem too panicked. He hopped backwards as Myrnin bit at his ankle, deftly avoiding the attack (if it could be called that, anyway). “Easy, friend,” he said, and crouched, pulling his sleeve back to reveal the countless scars on his arm. He offered his wrist, smiling a little. “This might work a little better. Ankles are bony, and they can’t taste very good.” He knew Myrnin could technically kill him this way, but he fully trusted him to stop before he did. Besides, he needed the blood. It would just be rude to withhold it.

There was no protest from the vampire. None what so over. He bit at Kelsier's wrist with the same blindness that he'd tried for the ankle. At least in this case he succeeded - better to be offered blood anyway. There was less squirming. Instead, he waited a bit until he didn't feel like he was dying, then he let go of Kelsier's wrist. He wanted more, very badly, but he wasn't hurt nearly bad enough to try something as drastic as almost killing someone. With that in mind though, everything hurt. He mainly hurt. His wrists, legs, and what he assumed was a couple of ribs. He made no move to get up, but just let himself flop a bit more across the roof again. "Thanks," he mumbled, licking his lips and trying to keep focused. He was managing. "Where am I?" Not the House. He'd been assuming Kelsier's world, but he was also assuming it had a broader list of geographical locations than that. Also damn. He hadn't wanted to come here. Not like this.

Kelsier didn’t wince as Myrnin bit down. He didn’t pull back, just waited until the vampire let go on his own, then wrapped a bit of his mistcloak around the wound, stopping the flow of blood. He straightened up and considered Myrnin for a long moment, then smiled. “Welcome to Luthadel,” he said cheerfully, waving a hand at the ash-choked sky. Gray was the primary...pretty much the only color, actually. Ash fell from the sky, fluttering down around them like snow that would never melt, covering the building in a fine layer. The only bit of color came from Kelsier’s blonde hair and hazel eyes, and now, from Myrnin. “Scadrial, to be more broad,” he added, letting his hand fall to his side. “My world. How in all the worlds did you get here?”

Myrnin shakily brushed off his hair. A world of grey. Kelsier really had been very serious about that. Ouch. He was surprised everyone didn't have some horrible, crippling lung disease. Or maybe most people did ... He wasn't sure if welcome was the right way of putting it either, but he supposed that the biggest thing was it sparked his interest. There was certainly that in his eyes as he looked around. He was the primary bright spot of color, wasn't he? Huh. "Looooong story," he admitted with a bit of hesitation. Then he pointed straight up. "Fell from the sky." Then he looked back at Kelsier. "Uh. I only meant to talk to you, not actually come here. I had a ... thing. Science thing. I would love to tell you about it, but it would rather depend on how inconveniencing it would be." He tapped his fingers together a couple of times. "Er. Why are you on a roof?"

Somehow, most people seemed to be doing alright with the terrible air quality. That wasn’t to say there were no casualties, of course, but the people of Scadrial seemed relatively hardy in that area. No, it was probably starvation or murder that would kill you here. Comforting thought that that was. “I did notice that part,” Kelsier returned, raising an eyebrow at the comment. He nodded a moment later, listening to the explanation. “Not inconvenient at all,” he assured him, smiling a little. “In fact, I’d be very happy to hear how you managed it. I’ve been trying for a while now, with no success. As for why we’re up here…” he glanced out over the city. “I’m Mistborn. We’re a vertical sort of people. And I like being up high. I can see the city, and watch the streets. And interfere, if necessary.”

Myrnin had to slowly and unsteadily push himself to his feet. He looked decidedly like he was very close to falling over, maybe off the side of the roof. But he didn't. Instead he just spread his weight out a bit more, looking grim. "Ah, I seeeeee," he said, looking like he didn't see at all, but still like he was trying to keep himself together. He pointed down. "Do you have a chair ...? Located nearer to the ground floor?" It was a start. A start were he possibly wouldn't go tumbling to the ground due to his hungry, imbalanced healing. Equally, he wasn't sure he'd full grasped the gravity of being stuck here. He was pretty sure that there was a lot more backlash that he hadn't become aware of yet and he was hoping for a place to think about it. He liked high up places. A lot. But he also was pretty sure that, right now, high places wouldn't like him. He'd rather not break more ribs.

Kelsier considered him for a long moment as he stood, taking in the decidedly unsteady look he had about him. He was a little too close to the edge of the roof for Kelsier’s comfort, even if he suspected falling wouldn’t be deadly. If it was, Myrnin would probably be dead now. “Good plan,” he agreed, and paused. “Good plan, with a small problem. I used Allomancy to get up here, and there isn’t...exactly a non-Allomancy way to get back down?” He was pretty sure there were going to be some consequences to Myrnin’s appearance here. Mainly, how he’d get back. Even if the portal or whatever that had brought him here was still around, it was very, very high up. He could get pretty high by Pushing coins, but he couldn’t fly, and he couldn’t help Myrnin. Well. One problem at a time. “Okay, I know what we can do,” he said after a minute, and handed Myrnin his pouch of coins. “You jump, and I’ll Pull on this to slow your fall. Hopefully, you won’t break your neck.”

"Breaking my neck would be bad," Myrnin agreed with a nod, his voice far more grave than he might have phrased things. He'd just broken a lot of bones. He wasn't keen on doing so again. Not in the least. He took the bag of coins and looked at them with puzzlement. Then he just held onto the bag and looked down. Long drop. Ew. He liked being up high. He did not like dropping off things. But he still glanced at Kelsier before lightly taking that step over the edge. He'd survive, he was well aware, but also eat a local afterward. He knew he'd be fine, but that didn't change that he wasn't exactly happy about this latest challenge. The air rushed past him and Myrnin closed his eyes, muscles braced for either a sharp tug from Kelsier's Pull or hitting the ground with a whole lot more ow associated with it. There was that. Eep.

Hopefully not too bad. Since it was definitely a possibility here. He didn’t say that out loud. This wasn’t the House - death was most likely permanent here - but he didn’t think Myrnin would agree to it if he was going to die. Self preservation instincts and all that. Not that he was speaking from experience...certain people said he was chronically self preservation instinct deficient. He watched Myrnin fall for a second, then flared steel and Pulled on the coins, planting his feet so he didn’t get pulled over the edge too. He grit his teeth and held his ground, managing to stay upright only barely. And then it was over and he looked down, a little anxious now that it was done, though he didn’t show it. “Myrnin?” He called. “I trust you survived?”

"Affirmative," Myrnin called up. "Are you coming down?" The landing had not been smooth. A human would have bruised. He didn't, but that didn't stop him from being very aware of the fact there were injuries, they just didn't have the same tell-tale signs. So. Ouch. He didn't bother moving. The rest of him still hurt a fair bit and he didn't want to check if everything really was in order. That was what the issue was. There was just a lot of ouch. And also never mind the strange location and maybe the creeping curiosity and worry about where he actually was. There was a lot to work out about this, there really was. But - and he was aware of that - he had to get back. Just ... not right away, right? He could spare some time. For his friend. It would be fun!

Kelsier breathed out, relieved as it turned out he hadn’t just sent his friend to his final death. He had been fairly confident, but you never really knew, did you? He didn’t answer, just dropped a coin and stepped off the ledge, dropping towards the ground at a frightening speed before he Pushed on the coin under him. It couldn’t go any further from him, being on the ground, so it ended up pushing him up instead, slowing his fall until he was merely hovering a ways off the ground. He lowered himself gently and landed almost soundlessly, then paused, looking down at Myrnin. And offered a hand, raising an eyebrow. “Best not to lie on the ground too long, friend,” he said lightly. “You’ll be buried in ash, or assumed dead. Besides, you do look a bit...well, you don’t blend in, do you?”

Myrnin took the hand with no protest what so ever and let himself be pulled to his feet. This was fine by him, of course, and he liked that he was having someone assist him in this strange world. But at the same time, he humphed. "I blend in perfectly well where I come from," he said, grinning a bit. It was a boldfaced lie, but Kelsier didn't need to know that. He did glance around though. Ash. This was a world of ash. How anyone could survive was a wonder. "Where to now?" he asked, before taking stock of the building he'd just been on. He wanted to be able to make his way back here. When he was done ... whatever that meant. He wasn't sure how to get back up to his rift ... but it had to be there, right? He'd have to trust that it was, least there be no alternate way back. He glanced to Kelsier again. "I want to know ... everything. I wanna see what you do." He was practically bouncing. "If it's not too much trouble, and all of that."

Kelsier pulled Myrnin to his feet and let go, shaking his head a little at the reply. “Do you, now?” He replied, amusement bright in his hazel eyes and light tone. “And nowhere else, if the House is any indication. I’ve never seen anyone wear so many bright colors.” He looked at the street, then up at the building Myrnin had landed on. “Everything? That’s a lot,” he replied, eyes finally shifting back to Myrnin’s face and searching it. “Not that I object to it, of course. There’s...damn. How much have I told you?” He knew he’d talked about Allomancy, but how much of his world’s workings had he discussed? Did Myrnin know about the Lord Ruler, even? A slightly more serious look passed over the Mistborn’s features at that thought. “I’ve gotten the impression that my world is a bit...darker than many others,” he admitted, turning and beginning to walk, trusting Myrnin to follow. “If you weren’t a vampire, I’d be a lot more worried about you being here at all. It’s not a terribly lovely place to visit.”

It was the sort of warning - vague as it was - that Myrnin expected. He chuckled. Maybe a bit too cocky. Maybe a bit too likely to get him into trouble. Or who was he or anyone else kidding? Very likely to get him into trouble. Deeply so. "I don't think you've told me much," he confirmed after a long second. Then he shook his head a couple times. "Not much at all, actually. Want to enlighten me?" He glanced around again. As if he expected to see bodies on the streets. Truthfully, he wasn't sure what to expect. Not at all. There seemed to be a lot about this place that he wasn't taking as seriously as he probably should have. "And where are we going?" he added as well.

Bodies on the street. Much more likely than Kelsier would have liked. He wouldn’t have been surprised if there had been. Angry, yes. Furious. But not surprised. He shook his head very slightly, and he didn’t stop smiling, though it took on a knowing edge, and maybe even a bit of a sad one. Myrnin didn’t know, did he? Not enough. “There’s the Skaa. What I am,” he began, glancing up for a moment in case anyone was watching them. No one ever thought to look up, unless they were Mistborn. “And there’s the nobility.” He didn’t say the word particularly differently than any other word, but there was something about it that made it feel differently once it was said. Like maybe it was from another language, and therefore had a different meaning. “For a walk,” he added, and suddenly the mischief was back in his eye. “Where else?”

Post by mintedstar/fur on May 30, 2021 4:20:52 GMT -5
Myrnin hadn't known were else and he also didn't know what exactly the nobility had to do with anything. Other than that they were probably bad. This was his assumption at any rate. "Were do you live?" he wondered. A walk around out here didn't seem ideal, but he followed along. It seemed like an interesting venture anyway. "Do you have a job or anything?" He was just generally curious how Kelsier fit. All of this was a lot more than simply another world to Myrnin, it was another culture. Another place with different rules and different basis for how things worked. A different normal. Still apparently not one that liked his clothing though. Ah well.

“With my crew, technically,” the Survivor replied, shooting Myrnin a quick, mischievous smile. “But it depends on how you define ‘live’. I hardly would consider a hideout a home, no matter how many times I happened to sleep there.” He didn’t say ‘nights’. This was because he didn’t tend to sleep at night. He and Myrnin had that in common, most likely. “Do I have a job?” He repeated a moment later, turning to walk backwards so he could see Myrnin’s face, the mists swirling around him and picking up the strips of his mistcloak. He almost looked like he was only mist himself, in the gloom. “Yes and no. I don’t get paid...no one pays me, I mean. So not a job in that sense. I have a purpose, though. I have a job in the same way a parent does. My job is to kill the Lord Ruler, end the nobility, and free the Skaa.” He grinned. “And also, I’m a thief.”

|
|
Post by mintedstar/fur on Jun 6, 2021 3:27:24 GMT -5
A thief. Yes indeed. Myrnin wasn't surprised to hear about that. Though he couldn't help but wonder what that meant for Kelsier in the long run. A purpose only got someone so far. Once a purpose was done, where did that leave you? But he didn't say that. He did, however, ask, "You live with people? What are they like? Can I meet them? Where are we going?" It was a lot of questions for not a lot of idea about where he was or what he would do here now that he was here. This did leave Myrnin a bit puzzled about what it was he was going to ... well ... do while in this place. "Can I help?" he finally asked. The House never let him help with anything. Not really. Not ever. He wanted to help.

If Kelsier had known what Myrnin was thinking, he likely wouldn’t have answered him. Because he was absolutely right. A purpose was only good as long as it existed; when it was fulfilled, what did it leave but a hole? “You can certainly meet the crew,” he replied with a light laugh, Myrnin’s enthusiasm only making him that much more thrilled. “I’ll warn you, a certain man, Hammond, will probably talk your ear off about philosophical wandering, if you let him. If you find yourself suddenly in the strangest mood to do something nice for Breeze, don’t do it, no matter how reasonable it may feel. Clubs will be rude, don’t mind him, he means well, but your shirt will undoubtedly offend him. Sazed is probably the best of us all, really, he’ll be very polite. Spook...well, you probably won’t see Spook unless you plan to stay for a while. He lives up to his name. He smiled as he caught the next question, raising an eyebrow. “Help?” He repeated. “Well...how do you feel about crime?”

All the names went right over Myrnin's head. It wasn't as if he had any idea how he was going to keep any of those introductions straight. But that was half the fun! He would love to be able to see how that all worked. There was certainly a lot of opportunity to be able to get into a bit of mischief. And Kelsier seemed to be offering him just such a case on a silver plate. "Of course!" Myrnin purred. "I would love to! Crime is my middle name. Or in one of those odd memes. 'Be gay, do crime.' That sort of thing. I am the meme. I will do crime. And also gay. I can do that too." He seemed quite proud of himself, all things considered, looking happy and maybe even giddy to have something to do. "Where do we start?" he asked. "What are we doing? Where are we going?" All of these things were fired at Kelsier rapidly while Myrnin hopped up and down in place a couple times.

Kelsier raised an eyebrow as Myrnin continued, his smile deepening a little. The vampire seemed awfully thrilled to be here for someone who had no solid concept of what here was. He was probably going to lose some of that excitement before long - Kelsier hoped it didn’t happen in a harsh way, but then, he wouldn’t be surprised if it did - but for the time being, he was happy to encourage it. It was a good way to live, being excited. “Gay crime it is,” he agreed, turning to walk forwards again. “And where we’re going depends on you. Would you rather meet my crew, go on a tour of the city, or commit some crimes?” He found he wasn’t leaning one way or the other, particularly. He wanted to do all of those things. It was just a matter of what Myrnin decided he was most excited about. Kelsier had a hunch he knew which the vampire would pick, but he wasn’t going to say it in case it influenced his decision at all.

There wasn't any hesitation from Myrnin. In fact, there was even an evil little smile. "Criiiime," he said, the words hissing through his lips. Oh sure, meeting Kelsier's squad - whoever they were - certainly sounded exciting, but Myrnin had other priorities in mind. On top of that, he had absolutely no idea what crime Kelsier might be speaking of. But he was certainly excited, that was for sure. "What are we going to doooooo?" he wondered, hands behind his back and leaning forward a bit as he walked. His eyes were alight with interest. "And where will we be gooooing?" he also added. At least generally speaking, a lot of Myrnin's injuries had healed up. Though the blood covered clothing might get a look (or they might not. Myrnin didn't know. There were many options.)

“Crime,” Kelsier agreed. He could respect Myrnin’s priorities. They could always meet his crew later, and this was a perfect night for some crime. The blood on Myrnin’s clothes wasn’t a big deal. Kelsier had wandered these streets covered in blood plenty of times before. What was going to give them away was, undoubtedly, the clothes themselves. Still, he didn’t see what option that had, unless they wanted to postpone. And he didn’t. “We’ll be stealing some metals,” he explained, speeding up a little and jogging into a shadow. He paused, glancing back at Myrnin and motioning him forwards. “Atium, to be exact, since we’re running low.” He paused, pursing his lips. “How high can you jump?”

Excitedly, Myrnin jogged after. He didn't seem to have considered the clothing what so ever. Instead, he seemed to be focusing on where he and Kelsier were going, rather than the specifics of blending in. The word out of Kelsier's mouth made no sense however. Myrnin frowned, raising an eyebrow and then whispered, "If it is crime, are you not being a bit loud? And what is it that that metal is?" He wouldn't even be sure if Kelsier had used it before. He didn't know what it did. The question as well caused the vampire to pause. There was a slight glint in his eyes as he looked up at the sky, trying to judge how far he could jump against the existing buildings. "About to up there," he explained, pointing up to what would be considered a second story. He knew it wasn't as impressive as it possibly could have been, but it was certainly higher than a human could. "Why do you ask?" he added, glancing back at Kelsier. "Roofs aren't made of this metal, is it?" It was the only thing which he could think of which was roughly that height.
