While worrying about kits means that Berrynose is definitely concerned for the Clan, that doesn't mean he matured as much as people say he did. I do not believe he is ready for deputy yet - he still has many ways to go if he wants to become deputy. But why do people say that Berrynose finally grew up?

☂ I still don't like Berrynose. I never have, I never will.
I still don't think he's ready for that deputy position, either.

Berrynose is just too headstrong and abrasive to be deputy tbh he really hasn't matured that much. I feel he'd be too 'trigger-happy' in border skirmishes and inter-clan debates. Not saying he'd go all evil and power hungry, he's just a man of action, spontaneous, he doesn't think things through the whole way, and I can't see him picking a more thoughtful deputy, he'd probably pick someone like him, again, not out of badness, just because he isn't that mature and would want someone he agrees with to be his right-hand.
maybe if it wasn't Bramblestar who was leader rn he might have a chance, but Bramblestar has been shown in the past multiple times to favor level headed people and keep them on his side (Storumfur for example, I think it was Moonrise when he said he liked him because of that?) which makes Squirrelflight as his deputy very out of character but it has been a while since I read the books and I've never read the new ones so maybe she has matured? I know he initially pick her to show he forgave her (instead of pfffffft idk just telling her and hanging out with her again) but that was more down to the writing then for the good of the clan
Berrynose argues with his own clan all the time, if my memory is correct, can you imagine what he'd be like as the representative at a Gathering? Sure, he's grown up a bit, but he really isn't that good a choice for deputy.

I think he has has matured- just not that much, and much too late. If I were leader, I'd choose a deputy who's been consistently mature for most of his or her life- not someone who has just recently shaped up somewhat.
I do think though that he's gotten better. I don't think he's nearly like he was as an apprentice.

One instance of him acting more mature and thinking of the clans futures isn't enough to deem him as having matured in my opinion. We need to see more before we can say that he's grown and matured.

At the rate things are going....Ivypool will probably be in the nursery, and Squirrelflight's years are catching up to her, and Berrynose is probably the only best choice at that point. But he still hasn't had an apprentice, so....

Yeah, I didn't get that scene in BrS. All Berrynose did is say that the clan needed more babies and Bramblestar thought that he matured.
I fail to see how that is a sign of maturity. If any thing, it sounds like he agrees with Whitewing's philosophy that it is a she-cat's duty to have kits. Toms are needed to have kits as well. I mean, if the clan needs kits so badly, why doesn't he and Poppyfrost have them.
He has been less annoying, though, I'll give him that. So maybe he did mature a little.

I think Berrynose has matured, but it just isn't all that noticeable, especially when compared to Bramblestar's Storm where it's actually pointed out in the beginning of the book.
After he became a father, it seemed like he became more concern with Clan matters. Even Jayfeather points out that having kits may have changed his bossy attitude in Fading Echoes. Aside from doing normal Clan activities like helping around camp and going on patrol, Berrynose also helps Dovepaw and Ivypaw improve on their hunting technique when he stands in for Lionblaze in NW, shows concern for Icecloud in SotM after she's rescued from falling into the tunnels, and even helps Squirrelflight organize patrols along woth Brackenfur and Brightheart in TAQ.

But his kits Molewhisker and Cherryfall did. weird Yeah, it mystifies me how younger warriors are getting apprentices over older more experience warriors, that still never had one yet. I feel like the Erins gave Molewhisker to Alderpaw intentionally just cause they wanted him to have a strict mentor.

Most of these things I would consider as normal for a warrior to take part in. Just because you do extracurricular activities doesn't explicitly indicate you're maturing, but I guess it could be an indication. It may just be a sign of his bossy personality where he wants to be involved or feels the need to correct dovepaw and ivypaw's hunting.
