greetings, willoz here ~
i have a feeling i'm already in a lot of rps already but i couldn't get this idea out of my head, so maybe if it garners a lot of interest i'll give it a go!
my proposal is simple: clan of cat mermaids
it could go a couple of ways, perhaps a 2-clan rp where there's a rivalry between a land cat clan and the water cat clan, separated by the beach/underwater caverns
it could definitely be fantastical, with cats having mildly magical powers and having to go up against strange and terrifying beasts
a plot i was thinking of is that water cats are mysteriously going missing, and clan cats have to venture into the forbidden depths to find them
just a few humble thought offerings, i am mostly down to start a clan where people can go wild with the designs

I N T R O D U C T I O N Within the gentle, murky darkness, the cool water rushes through your fur as you dip down to catch the fish attempting to dart its way into its coral bed. It's a slippery fellow, but it's no match for your sharp fangs and claws. With your prey in your clutches and one powerful movement of your tail, you jettison through the ocean blue, rising towards the sunlight whose tender fingers tremble through the currents towards you.
You don't think about what waits down there, in the cold depths of the sea. You huddle next to your parents and grandparents, listening to stories of noisy twoleg islands riding the crests of the waves, to foreboding tales of cats who delved down deeper than they should have, only to arise monsters, drained of sanity, or not at all.
There is a strange twoleg contraption that has sunk to the ocean floor. Cats have gone missing. The bordering clan of land cats is starting to grow restless, eager for the mystical power your clan holds dear. Above all, a prophecy sings of doom, some strange phenomenon dooming you all to a watery tomb. A B O U T
This little rp is a casual, fun fantasy clan of cat mermaids - mewmaids! There's something delightful in designing a cat with a beautiful scaly tail and long, flowing fins. While some of their anatomy and behavior align closely with the sea otters, who are basically real life cat mermaids, these little kittens are also adorned with magical powers - powerful stones, shells, and crystals that they find on the bottom of the ocean floor that grant them some form of strange, reality-bending magic.
This is Coralclan, a strange clan of cats with the bottom half of a fish. They have very thick coats to protect them from the cold, which they groom constantly to maintain that cold-buffering fluff. Their fur and scale colors range from the most hideable against the ocean floor, such as blacks, greys, and goldens, to the most flamboyant, such as pinks and purples, to hide amongst the coral. They live amongst the fronds of the coral reef, close to the surface, though their hunting grounds take them far off into the ocean's depths. Coralclan cats like to soak in the sun on the large stones that breach the sea's surface. At the age of six moons, young cats are taken on a journey to find their personal gift of magic.
There's an NPC bordering clan, Shoreclan, made of regular land cats, all of whom can be played by anyone at any time. They can pose as sources of conflict, from a threat to Coralclan's magic to forbidden love. They are a beach-dwelling clan, one that hunts gulls and crabs and fish that swim too close to the surface. They sleep in beach caves and bicker with Coralclan constantly over a patch of sunning rocks between the two clans' territory.
Again, this is a casual clan, so jump in and out at your leisure! Your cats' information will be kept safe. There are a few plots you can claim and hopefully much fun to be had! Please read through all the rules and delight in these funny little ocean cats.

>> three: muse e's loved one has disappeared over a moon ago. muse e's been receiving dreams about their loved one, calling for help from within the twoleg wreck, but no one believes them.
>> four: muse f is a coralclan elder who's grandkit has gone missing. muse f is convinced that their grandkit has been stolen by a monster in the deep trenches where no cat has gone, but their clanmates think the old cat has gone senile. with no one to turn to, muse f decides to venture down there themselves.
>> five: muse g is a coralclan queen who is bearing the child of a shoreclan cat, and fears the result. what will her child, born of two different worlds, become? will her child survive the watery depths? or will she have to give up her child to the land?
>> six: muse h is an apprentice who has lost their magic item, and is scrabbling to find it before their mentor finds out. meanwhile muse i, a shoreclan cat, has gotten ahold of a funny-looking thing that has washed up on the beach.
>> seven: muse j is a shoreclan cat who loves to swim, and wishes they could spend their days in the ocean's embrace. their guardian fears the ocean, as it has taken muse j's parent, and forbids muse j to ever enter the sea. one day, muse j meets muse k, a coralclan cat, and with them, finds a magic ritual that would allow them to change their form and live amongst the waves forever.

This seems like a really fun idea :3 I haven't really seen a mercat clan before. I do like the magic ocean cats, but a two clan one would be fun as well. If you were to have a beach dwelling clan, how would you plan for them to interact? The mewmaids wouldn't really be able to go on land if they couldn't shift their tail into legs, and I imagine the sand cats wouldn't go into the water since they'd be at a disadvantage.

thank you! i was mostly thinking of them interacting with the ocean cats poking their heads out of the water and yelling at the beach cats practically i imagine the ocean cats plop themselves onto a sunning rock or something and that. the two clans can especially meet at beach caves, when the tide comes up and the ocean cats can chill in the water while the beach cats sit on the stone floor how the two would like Fight each other, that would be something interesting to figure out :3

((im imagining the two clans sort of like, viewing each other as the weirdo like 'dont talk to them honey, the land cats have like four arms :/'
more planning stuff:))
T R A D I T I O N S
♢ CORALCLAN ♢
Coralclan moves with the moon, and thus their traditions are determined by such.
Full Moon -- Every full moon, there's a quiet gathering between Coralclan and Shoreclan. In the past, leaders or medicine cats may be kind or friendly towards each other and offer news, warnings, or aid to each other. It is a sign of good-will to maintain a peaceful Gathering, and an honor for a warrior or apprentice to be invited.
New Moon -- New moons are a day for contemplation, a day where the moon's face is hidden and the night is darker than usual. It's a day to celebrate death and old age. It is typical for cats to stay in camp and spend time with their elders, or loved ones buried just outside. Graves are cleaned, offerings are placed. It is a good time to pray to the ocean spirits.
Half-Moons -- At each half-moon, there is a ceremony.
>> The Apprentice's Search: on the first half-moon, (also known as first quarter), all kits who have reached six moons in age will be made apprentices and given a mentor in the Apprentice's Ceremony. Their new mentor will then guide them in a search for their One Item, which might be a special pebble or shell that calls to them. Their Item is then taken to the Pool of Miracles to be imbued with magical essence, unlocking the apprentice's magical prowess.
>> The New Warrior's Journey: on the second half-moon (also known as last quarter), all apprentices who have proven their worth shall be named warriors in the Warrior Ceremony. These new warriors are then sent on an ocean-wide journey to discover themselves and forge a stronger bond amongst their peers.
One Moon Ceremony -- Once a kit turns one moon old, there's a lively celebration with lots of food and gifts for the blossoming young kit. Because of the harshness of the ocean, it is rare to see all kits reach their first moon.
♢ SHORECLAN ♢
Shoreclan moves with the tides, and thus their traditions are determined by such.
High Tide -- Each day at high tide, it's time for border patrols to check for predators and invaders, and apprentices are warned back to camp.
Low Tide -- Each day at low tide, hunting patrols are sent to scour the tide pools for prey. Cats lounge on exposed sea rock to soak in the sun. And, even though they're not supposed to, apprentices explore the sea caves that are revealed by the lowered tide.
Apprentice Assessment -- Along with the hunting and battle assessment, apprentices are also assessed on their climbing and swimming skills, the former by timing their climb to the top of the cliff and the latter by timing their swim down the coast. Sometimes during greenleaf apprentices hold races under the warm sun, the winners of which earning a little handmade trophy to decorate their nests with.
Newleaf Festivities -- By winter's end, Shoreclan celebrates the return of longer days and more sun with a newleaf celebration, marked by when the fish in the estuaries return to bear their young. They will clean their nests and their dens, cleaning away old burdens of the past year and welcoming in good luck for the new. They will feast on returned prey to celebrate abundance. Elders and parents offer gifts of shells and feathers to the young ones to decorate their nests.
Bareleaf Celebration -- When winter arrives, the cold settles in and the prey grows scarcer, Shoreclan has another celebration to praise all the good that has happened within that year and to lift their spirits in bareleaf. They will decorate their walls and nests with splendid colors, exchange gifts with each other at dawn, and sing around a shared meal at dusk.
T E R R I T O R Y ♢ CORALCLAN ♢ Coral Reef Camp -- The camp lies just below the surface amongst the colorful fronds of the coral reef. Dens are built into natural or claw-carved crevices into the coral walls with polyps of coral planted at the entrances to shield them.
Seagrass Meadow -- A little beyond the coral reef is a wide, flowing patch of seagrass rising from the ocean floor. This is a beautiful place to hunt, rich with fish, crustaceans, and invertebrate. It is the main place medicine cats gather their herbs.
Emerald Forest -- The kelp forest that lies to the east is a far richer hunting ground, but also a far more dangerous one, as predators lurk well-hidden amongst the towering green. Within it hides the shipwreck - a strange twoleg contraption that had crashed against the coastline and was left half-buried under the sea. Because of the strange and potentially dangerous twoleg objects within, cats are warned away from such a place.
The Trenches -- The further you swim out into the blue, you'll find places where the ocean floor drops away into deep, dark trenches. No cat has dared swim down into one and come back alive.
Pool of Miracles -- When one swims along the coastline, there's a secret underwater cave one can swim into and up, popping their heads up out of the water into a secret cavern illuminated by a soft bioluminescent glow. Glow worms line the walls and ceiling, creating an entrancing view above. The pool of water within which cats surface from is the Pool of Miracles, where Items are brought to their full magical potential through a ceremonial ritual.
♢ SHORECLAN ♢ Beach Cove Camp -- Shoreclan cats live in a small, protected alcove, where the waves lap at the edge of the sand. They sleep in beach caves embedded in the cliffside near the water. They live further in so that neither the tide nor wind would touch them, but with ledges just outside that not only grant them a way down to the beach but also a beautiful view of the ocean. Inside, the dens are lined with moss, the walls covered in paint created from crushed cells and flowers found along the cliff's edge.
Dawn's Tidepools -- At low tide, rock pools are revealed, safe enough to climb upon and hunt in. Here they find delicious snacks such as starfish and snails, as well as fun decorations such as rocks and shells. Tidepools are also a popular place to hang out with your friends and mates.
The Waveback Estuary -- Next to the cliff that houses Beach Cove Camp is an estuary that flows into the ocean. This partially enclosed body of water has a river flowing into it, housing salmon and eel offspring during newleaf. Cats may follow the river towards the mainland, but why go so far from home?
Cliff Top Path -- Shoreclan cats are powerful climbers, easily finding paths and trails to the top of the ocean cliffs. Going too close to the edge is dangerous, of course, but many Shoreclan cats appreciate the view at the very top. Watching the sunrises from here can be very romantic and relaxing. Cats can also gather flowers and herbs along Cliff Top Path.
The Forbidden Caves -- At low tide, a mysterious set of beach caves is revealed. They're dark and long and damp, with many scary stories attached to them. Apprentices and young warriors might dare each other to go in, or explore their strange depths. Of course, they can't be in there for too long, lest high tide arrives.
♢ UNSPOKEN FOR ♢ The Sunlit Rocks -- The only real territorial dispute these two clans have is over a set of hefty ocean rocks perfect for lounging upon and warming your fur. Some might say it's a little bit petty that it's these specific rocks you wanna die on, but others argue that these are the most perfect sunning rocks to ever exist. It's also a pride thing. It's mostly a pride thing.
The Moonlit Cave -- This is where the full moon Gatherings take place. Shoreclan cats enter a moon-filled beach cave where the ocean water settles right at the edge. They can settle upon the stony banks while Coralclan cats can rise up and poke their heads out of the water to speak with them. There's an opening at the top of the cave to let in the light of the moon. P R E Y Coralclan regularly hunts and consumes oceanic fish and invertebrate that lives amongst the coral reef and along the shallow ocean floor. Their food supply is abundant, but they must hunt enough to ensure that they consume enough calories to stave off the ocean's cold. Prey includes but not limited to:
>> Sea stars >> Squid >> Prawns >> Butterflyfish >> Clownfish >> Flatfish >> Rockfish
Shoreclan, on the other hand, hunts along the beach and amongst the rivers that stream into the estuary. They can pluck prey from tide pools and attempt surface-dwelling ocean fish. Prey includes but not limited to:
>> Seabirds >> Shrimp >> Rock goby >> Butterfish >> Eel >> Salmon >> Beach mice P R E D A T O R S ♢ CORALCLAN ♢Coralclan needs to be wary of the various oceanic dangers that could be lurking in the deep. These include:
>> Sharks >> Sea lions >> Sea snakes >> Stonefish >> Box jellyfish >> Blue-ringed octopus
♢ SHORECLAN ♢ Shoreclan face more familiar land-bound creatures. >> Coyotes >> Bobcats >> Foxes >> Bears >> Fire ants >> Ghost crabs ♢ OTHER CREATURES ♢ On the beach and in the sea, your cats may encounter various sealife that do not pose a threat, though typically they are creatures that are seen and appreciated, not touched. >> Herons >> Sea turtles H E R B S & M E D I C I N E ♢ CORALCLAN ♢Under the sea, medicine is found in sea sponges and coral. Here is a brief list:
>> Blue-green algae: used topically for inflammation and viral infections. Also used to create blue-green pigment. >> Blue mussel: their glue is used to bind gashes together and stop bleeding >> Cone snail: the venom, when processed, works as a pain relief. >> Cuttlefish bone: powdered. Ingested, is used for stomach issues. Topically, is used for skin rashes and lesions. >> Sea cucumbers: their extract helps joint pain. >> Sea horses: used to ease arthritis. >> Sea hare: a poison, when processed can help cats regurgitate. >> Sponge: an antiviral mixture, helps with swollen glands and digestive issues. >> Soft coral: used as medicine for whitecough and greencough.
♢ SHORECLAN ♢ Shoreclan uses beach herbs and various mussels pulled from the tide pools for their medicinal needs.
>> Aloe vera: soothes sunburns and cuts. Ingesting the gel aids whitecough. >> Green-lipped mussel: used for inflammation. >> Oyster shell: powdered, helps with weak bones. >> Conch shell: powdered, helps with digestive issues. >> Basil: used for worm infections and to treat snake and insect bites. >> Coriander: used for stomach pain, nausea, and diarrhea. >> Lavender: helps to soothe anxiety and used to improve sleep. >> Marjoram: used for coughs and colds. >> Rosemary: boosts the immune system and improves blood circulation. >> Sage: used for digestive issues. >> Thyme: used for serious colds.

There will be a head medicine cat and two assisting med. cats, think a doctor and nurses. And of course, we can have up to three med. cats in training.
>> There is no limit on design creativity! Have fun with colors and personalities! Coralclan cats tend to be more bright and colorful with fins and patterns, smaller and thick-furred and structured for swimming. Shoreland cats tend to be a little more muted in color, larger in stature and structured for climbing.

Sandstar has led a long life, slowly but surely losing any thought to how others perceive them and doing whatever they please. They have a jovial spirit about them but says incredibly strange things sometimes, taking joy in the ridiculous and absurd.
