in terms of culture
what would you add?
I mean stuff like how shadowclan medicine cats were trained as warriors as well as healers, and giving deathberries to those too far gone
what other things like that would you add and to what clan?
Heres a few I thought of
Shadowclan Instead of burying the cat they take them outside the territory (somewhere nice) and let them return to the earth naturally, believing that as they had gained sustenance from prey, it was their way of giving sustenance back, so that the former clan members body would gift the world better and more plentiful prey, it is seen as barbaric from the other clans.
They'll often use the thorns as a way to groom themselves (my cat loved using the cactus so why not) so its common to find clumps and bits of shadowclan fur all throughout the territory, a great way to mark territory and make trespassers think a cat is closer than they are
Windclan
WIP
Riverclan When a cat becomes an apprentice, depending on the season they are given a task. In summer they need to go into the water and stay in there as long as they can. In spring they must hide from the clan for a day while warriors search for them, in fall they need to try and find as many green leaves as possible, and in winter they need to find a patch of ice to break and try to catch as many fish as possible ice fishing. They don't serve a purpose other than bragging rights and proving themselves

ThunderClan - The Clan who places the highest emphasis on strength and prowess at hunting and fighting. Part of the reason why so few cats in ThunderClan willingly become medicine cats is because choosing a healer's path is subtly devalued by the culture they live in, since medicine cats typically don't fight or hunt for themselves. This is also why no one but Fireheart initially suspected that Tigerclaw was plotting something, as his ferocity and cunning were seen as laudable traits for a ThunderClan cat.
RiverClan - The Clan who values family the most. In recent years each of the Clans have shifted from toms having little involvement with their litters to having them be active fathers, but RiverClan was the first to adopt this into their culture and make it a core tenet. This largely happened under Hailstar and Crookedstar; Crookedstar knew firsthand the importance of toms in their kit's life as his father was his only involved biological parent, and he later became a single father himself. He, Oakheart, and Mudfur really pioneered this idea of involved fathers, and this continues in RiverClan today. Extended kin, like grandparents and aunts/uncles, are also much more involved in the lives of kits than in other Clans.
WindClan - The Clan with the greatest emphasis on tradition. WindClan has seen a lot of changes in the last few generations, which may have led to their sour attitude towards other Clans, as they fight to ignore outside influences and retain what traditions they have left. Elders still tell stories about tunneling, even though there are none who can remember it themselves. They also place a lot of importance on the Warrior Code, as it is part of the traditions of all five Clans. For example, WindClan fled from Brokenstar not out of weakness but because he sent kits to battle, and the Warrior Code dictates that no cat can intentionally put a kit into danger regardless of their Clan.
ShadowClan - The Clan with the least involvement with StarClan. The harsh conditions of the marshes in the old territory led cats to believe that they couldn't trust in StarClan to see them through periods of starvation and sickness - they could only truly rely on themselves. This belief has persisted in the lake territories, and being an atheist or harbouring doubts about StarClan's intentions isn't a taboo there. The only exception is for medicine cats - as the Clan's main link to StarClan, they have to be pious in order to do their job.
SkyClan - The Clan with the most willingness to adopt new ideas. As a mishmash of former kittypets, loners, and rogues, SkyClan membership is less of a birthright and more of a chosen family for the cats who choose to live there. If a cat can't fit into the binary roles of warrior or medicine cat, new roles may be created for them based upon their strengths (like what happened with Tree). Since they don't have a clearly defined tradition anymore, they're a lot more lax with certain rules and facets of Clan identity. They also respect the autonomy of cats a lot more than other Clans, so if a cat decides that they'd be happier as a loner or kittypet they're generally free to go and allowed to visit (or to change their mind and rejoin later).

RiverClan is the most family-oriented and earth-focused of all the Clans. In canon, they are shown often to be mostly unconcerned about the other Clans' problems. They instead prefer to focus on the health and growth of their own. Everyone in RiverClan is like a tight-knit family, and they put each other's needs first before their own. In RiverClan, the health of the earth is very important to them. They can be spotted tending to the medicine cats' herb patches or flowers on the territory. Water is not to be feared to them but respected because it is the very bane of their existence, and without it, they would be nothing more than any of the other Clans.
In ThunderClan, strength and power mean everything to them. They are the most prideful of the Clans, taking pleasure in how they can easily overpower their enemies in battle. However, this pride often gets to their heads and makes them stubborn and defiant. This is why they are the worst at working together of all the Clans. What they lack in coordination, they make up for in skill. ThunderClan cats are naturally talented and adapt easily to any activity. Perhaps it is due to their strength. ThunderClanners tend to be laxer on the rules than other Clans. They readily accept kittypets, loners, or rogues and break the warrior code if they believe it is the right thing to do.
ShadowClan cats, much like canon, are the most secretive of the Clans. They trust less easily than other cats and are very fickle. When something is of no use to them any longer, they are quick to drop it. It is hard for ShadowClan to make up its mind on what it believes. Gossiping, to ShadowClan, is a mark of disloyalty, as it could endanger the Clan's secrecy. ShadowClan likes to keep the other Clans' noses out of their business, but they know when situations are dire, they are quick to ask for help. ShadowClan cats adapt the most easily to any situation, any weather, and any predicament. It is not uncommon for ShadowClan cats, like ThunderClan cats, to accept outsiders into their ranks. ShadowClan believes they can learn from these outsiders, and learning is very important to ShadowClan.
WindClan is the most intelligent of the five Clans. They are also the closest to their ancestors. WindClan cats are often taught the knowledge of herbalism in case of any emergency. They are wary of the other Clans and constantly alert and cautious. WindClan is the only Clan that hasn't dropped the Moonstone visits for apprentices. Due to the destruction of the old territories, apprentices now visit the Moonpool to share tongues with StarClan. This marks the end of their youth, and after they visit the Moonpool, they are treated and respected as warriors. WindClan is also much stricter on the warrior code than the other Clans, and have produced many generations of loyal warriors thanks to this.
SkyClan cats are the most resilient and kind of all the Clans. However, they tend to hold grudges against the cats and Clans who have betrayed them. SkyClan put Clan before family. After all they've been through, getting chased from the forest, then from the gorge, it is crucial to the cats that SkyClan survives. SkyClan cats are competitive. They often like to challenge each other and the other Clans in competitions of skill, whether it is testing each other on how high they can climb or how fast they can run. They like to observe and learn from their neighbors, a trait they share with ShadowClan. SkyClan cats are always the quickest to help another Clan in danger.
this took forever to type. i may edit this later so it makes more sense ahaha

omg i have been developing my headcanons for years I can't wait to share them!! shadowclan and windclan have the most as they are my favourites and i have been thinking about theirs for the longest but i have a few for thunder and river as well. unfortunately not skyclan, i've never really fleshed out a culture for them in my head. SHADOWCLAN- ShadowClan cats are often characterized by their dark pelts and thus ability to blend in with the shadows. Cats who are born fully or heavily white-coated are considered to be unlucky, and their birth is a bad omen for the Clan. It also makes their life difficult, but not impossible.
- Most of the Clan's legendary figureheads are witty and cunning jokester/trickster figures.
- ShadowClan value loyalty above all other character traits. They are often considered secretive by the other Clans because they will carry each other's secrets to the grave if necessary.
- While many Clans place importance on bonds forged in blood, ShadowClan cats are not so tied down to their families. They care the most about relationships and bonds formed on their own terms. Not surprisingly, this characteristic means ShadowClan cats develop the deepest friendships.
- Due to the aforementioned characteristic, outsiders to the Clan are commonly welcomed and cherished as full warriors. Cats carrying rogue blood often go on to hold positions of power. As well, due to their high level of genetic diversity, ShadowClan boasts some of the healthiest kits!
- StarClan isn't really forced down their throats like it is for some other Clans and many ShadowClan cats are non-believers, though they still have their mythological figures and legends. Despite their overall non-religiousness, medicine cats are recognized as having some form of supernatural powers, though questionable credibility.
- Like to participate in organized hierarchical matches, which cause the other Clans to believe them to be scrappy and brutish. These matches allow cats to challenge each other for position. Challenges are usually battles of skill with no intention of serious harm. This is also considered to be very doglike to the other Clans.
- Assign their warriors to different aspects based on said hierarchy- the Clan's strongest will act as territory or camp guards, while the next shall hunt for the Clan and the lowest patrol the borders.
- ShadowClan cats adore birds, having an unusual affinity for them, especially owls and crows. They do not eat birds as food and they are considered to be a lucky omen. The Clan represent themselves with a symbol of a tawny owl.
WINDCLAN- Recognizable by their solid, duller pelts which allow them to blend in better with the barrenness of the moor. They are also known for their thick fur which protects them from the harsh winds.
- Diligently hard workers who follow rules. WindClan cats may work themselves to death if asked to. Due to this characteristic they are responsible for the creation and maintenance for many of the modern Clan systems and important areas.
- Are encouraged from birth to be curious, ask many questions, and learn as much as possible. They are one of the only Clans to have an organized education system where apprentices are trained in many different aspects in order to give them versatility and access to more opportunities. The other Clans find this trait annoying because it is perceived as nosiness.
- Honour is drilled into them from a young age as well. A WindClan cat will fight harder than any other Clan cat on behalf of bringing honour to the Clan and to their family. Half-Clan relationships are devastating to them because they believe it brings dishonour to the WindClan name, and cats may leave the Clan if they are dishonoured.
- Partly because of their way of apprentice training, WindClan cats are very intelligent. They are not as physically powerful as the other Clans but they are very good and talking or manipulating their way around situations and making quick decisions in the heat of the moment.
- WindClan cats feel the closest to their ancestors since they fall asleep directly beneath them each night, and oftentimes cats will participate in group worship sessions. They follow orders from StarClan to a T, and medicine cats often live in largely isolation as a form of protection so that they may have an uninterrupted bond with StarClan to provide to their Clan.
RIVERCLAN- RiverClan value beauty and love collecting shiny things and decorating their dens and camp with them. They like to decorate based on season and often celebrate different festivals based around the time of year, complete with different sorts of props and decorations!
- They can often be perceived as vain or shallow due to their obsession with decorations, but in fact they are very accepting! RiverClan is the Clan where most cats no matter where they come from will feel at home. Thought not every cat feels okay with the water, the Clan will work around this and find a place for them to fit in.
- Their Clan doesn't really have a lot of internal rules. They go with the flow in a way like the river they live next to, and not many cats feel the need to test the limits. They aren't as structured as all the other Clans and cats are, for the most part, capable of choosing whatever they want to fill their day with as long as it doesn't bring direct harm to the Clan.
- RiverClan cats indulge in the largest amount of arts. They live relatively easy lives and fill their days with beautiful things like swapping stories, creating art projects with river stones or objects, or coming up with plays to perform for the Clan. The other Clans do not get this at all and are completely confused with their adoration of these things.
THUNDERCLAN- ThunderClan cats are the life of the party!!! They know how to tell a good story or get a crowd going, and this is not just useful for times of peace but also in the heat of battle when they need to rile up an enemy patrol. ThunderClan cats always go full out and party hard, sometimes to their detriment.
- While known for their brawn, ThunderClan are not known typically for their intelligence and often will dive into situations before thinking first. They get knocked for their nosiness and involvement in other Clan's business often, but they never change.
- Very friendly. Apprentices often get in trouble for sharing Clan secrets or getting too friendly with a rival at a gathering. This is partly why ThunderClan have so many half Clan relationships, since they pour the souls out to whoever is willing to listen.
- ThunderClan are very loud and often can be heard from quite a distance away. Stealth is not normally their forte. They like to celebrate victories with loudly hooting and hollering and celebrating with Clanmates. They also have quite the ego.

ShadowClan: Most of their activities are performed during the night. They have a skeleton crew, maybe 3 or 4 cats, to watch the camp and borders while the rest of the clan sleeps. They are the most alert and awake during Gatherings, causing them to play little pranks on the sleepier clans. Many a outsider has made their way into ShadowClan. As long as they prove themselves and can carry their weight, they are welcomed to the clan. Physical strength is highly valued, but intelligence is as well. Strategy and tactical training are taught from a very early point in apprenticeship.
ThunderClan: A very strong emphasis on family bonds. Many times it seems more like groups of families united under a single name than the more traditional clan setting. Reckless courage and adventure can be found in almost every cat; while not overtly obvious, the more timid cats are often viewed with disdain- one can tell by a twitch of the tail how ThunderClan feels about them. They have honor duels- when a cat feels they or another cat of their family has been slighted, they challenge the offending cat to a duel. A duel (usually) ends feuds and other squabbles.
RiverClan: Are even more free spirited and carefree. RiverClan cats exchange gifts between one another. The closer the cats are, the more extravagant the gift. They view the warrior code as a silly old set of guidelines, and thus donโt really place much stock in following it too closely. There are a number of atheist RiverClan cats as a result. RiverClan is also known to have the highest concentration of half clan cats. This is because they gladly accept those rejected by their original clans. To them all RiverClan blood is good, so sometimes even quarter clan kits end up with them.
WindClan: They uphold the warrior code to the strictest degree. They see their obedience to the code as being superior to the other clans. Cats who break the code are punished: depending on the code broken, they are either banished for a few days or exiled permanently. No decisions are made without the leader consulting StarClan. They are seen as arrogant and snooty to outsiders. They will often challenge one another to races to clear the air between them, as well as a form of courtship. This leads to awkward interactions when cats from other clans challenge them to a race.
SkyClan: They are all about acceptance and good vibes. In their modern iteration, they still accept daylight warriors despite the other clans objecting. This makes them the best defended clan during the day, though many daylight warriors do eventually shift to full time members. They are also highly regarded by other outsiders due to their significantly less hostile approach to guarding their territory. SkyClan also takes meal breaks to accommodate the daylight warriors, but the other clans have learned the hard way that this is not a good time to attack. They are easily the most willing to help another clan.

Iโm going to have to think more deeply about unique cultures in the Clans and see if I can come up with anything.
I do have one theory though, that the Erins decided to add SkyClan because there was too much comparison between the four Clans and the Hogwarts houses (this is completely a theory in my mind, and I have no evidence to back up whether this is real or not).
Because obviously... ThunderClan = Gryffindor (bravery, helping others, chivalry) ShadowClan = Slytherin (ambition, cunning, heritage, resourcefulness) WindClan = Hufflepuff (hardworking, loyal, patience, fairness) RiverClan = Ravenclaw (intelligence, knowledge, planning ahead, wit)
So naturally, because of the heavy similarities (especially when you think about the stereotypes between the Clans, Iโm sure many people started making these comparisons. So of course the Erins had to be like โbUt ThErEโs a fIfTh cLaNโ so that way people would stop making those comparisons.

The posts under the spoiler will be very long. I've been developing these for a long time.THUNDERCLAN - Their main emphasis is on honor and strength. ThunderClan cats are described as fierce, courageous, loyal, and strong, with a big hero complex. Pure-blooded ThunderClan cats are thick-furred, broad-shouldered, bulky and stocky. They are considered the most commanding and demanding of the four Clans, the most "military-like". Despรฌte this, they're still a peaceful Clan, and respectful of the other Clans as well. Due to their territory, they are experts of navigating through the undergrowth and pushing through obstacles. Their thick fur sheilds them from the brambles and thorns. During battles, they can easily overpower their opponents by cornering them against the undergrowth or driving them further into the forest. They use brute force with little no regard for strategy, just going with the flow of the battle and letting anything that needs to happen, happen. Because of this, they are considered the most powerful among the four Clans, and the other Clans are wary of getting into skirmishes with them. They are very serious and well-organized, having a perfect patrolling and hunting schedule, and with a cat always being on guard duty. ThunderClan cats hold every once in a while a duel at the middle of the camp, where two cats fight with claws sheathed and the cat who wins gets the first pick of the fresh-kill pile. Warriors go against Warriors while Apprentices against Apprentices.
ThunderClan cats cats have many things that make them different of the other warrior Clans. They are more keen on taking mates and having kits, and they stick to the warrior code closely. They are a more tight-knit family. Toms are expected to take part in their kits' lives regardless if they want to or not. Kits and apprentices are expected to learn the Warrior Code by heart, even in an Apprentice's asessment, there's a task about reciting the whole Code; What caused each rule, wich ones were refused, excepcions, and the normal rules in general. ThunderClan cats are such a close family, leaders, medicine cats and deputies call their clanmates "my family" while clanmates call eachother "brother or sister." They are also a Clan with the greatest storytelling. They pass stories, to both old and young cats, liking to create their own "versions" or lore to make it more twisted, or exciting. They also like to hold small "daylight gatherings" where the whole Clan comes together for competitions inside their own territory. It is also a normal custom in ThunderClan to chant their Clan's name during a thunderstorm every time a lightning strikes. After sucessful battles, they also do this, and exchange stories and tales about their experiences. ThunderClan cats are also known to have the sharpest retorts, and highest level of sarcasm. They can sometimes get too proud about how powerful they are, loving to flex and boast to the other Clans about this. Due to this they are the worst at working with the other Clans.
