To Kill A Star ☆ a murder mystery roleplay
-- ☆ Marilou placed the old paper down at her desk, rubbing her temples. Old cases like this should stay hidden, however unfortunately, that wasn’t the case here. Flo had died over ninety years ago by now and although her death went unsolved, Marilou was confident that whoever killed her was long gone by now as well. So why was it still so relevant? Why did she find herself looking over the same case again and again and again, despite knowing she couldn’t solve anything just by looking at it?
Marilou knew why.
The recent death of Bridge Tanner, a wealthy, young man that liked to buy out old properties and renew them. He had wanted to do that to the Starless Sapphire, which still lay empty and abandoned ever since Flo’s death. Normally this wouldn’t have been an issue, Marilou actually liked what Tanner did with the city, after all, someone had to try and clean it up.
Unfortunately, shortly after purchasing the old building where the club once stood, Bridge Tanner was found dead. Set up to appear as a suicide and the police seemed perfectly fine accepting it as such.
Marilou though? She wasn’t so sure.
It didn’t make sense to her, none of this made sense.
All she knew for certain was that this wasn’t supposed to happen and that somehow, Tanner’s death tied back to the death of Flo Carter, all those years ago.
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
Welcome to “To Kill a Star”, this is a murder mystery roleplay that takes place in the 1920s as well as modern day. The basic premise is that in 1925, Flo Carter was murdered by one of “your” characters (your being a group term here) and everybody is a suspect. The only people that will know who the murderer is will be me and the rper of the murderer, otherwise it’ll be a complete mystery for everyone to solve together. However as Flo’s case was never solved, we will be roleplaying out the events that lead up to her death, allowing for the characters in the modern time to solve it as well as the murder of Bridge Tanner (who will start off the roleplay already dead) and once again, everyone is a suspect.
Keep in mind that this roleplay will hold a lot of mystery and I’ll be here to help you solve it while simultaneously giving you curveballs to face as well. Everyone is a suspect, and no one is safe from being murdered as the roleplay goes on.
Over all, it’s just a fun murder mystery roleplay for all of us to enjoy together!

Everway City -- ☆ Welcome to Everway, New York, back in the 1920s, this place was made up of two classes, the highly rich and those that worked for them, a social highlight of the nation, there was always life to be found in Everway, full of clubs and casinos, art galleries and museums, this place was the limelight of the world...or at least, it certainly seemed that way to the locals, however underneath the dazzling faces hid a world of crime, mob bosses and corrupt politicians ran the city from the down low, and with criminals being let out with little punishment, things continued as they always had.
Nowadays the city is perhaps a little less appealing, though still home to a few wealthy people, none of them seem to care about donating their money to help the city, most of it is made of people struggling to get by in a city that clearly peaked well before their time.
LOCATIONS
☆ - The Starless Sapphire A small, elegant nightclub that served as a speakeasy to those looking for a good time, owned by Frank Walsh, it became renown as a hot spot for mob bosses and social elitists alike as the dazzling club offered the perfect place to rest your feet up, talk amongst your allies, and forget about those that might be listening in. This club had it all, dancing, music, and of course only the finest options of beverages available, however behind the glitzy glamour of the sapphire studded gates rested a closet full of skeletons and hallways full of secrets. Nowadays, the Sapphire Symphony is no more, in its place is a long abandoned building that never quite seemed to recover from the club’s unfortunate murder and some claim they can still hear the wails of Flo Carter’s ghost as she wanders the club she once reigned over as queen. It was recently bought by Bridge Tanner right before he passed away.
☆ - The Rosy Roulette/Everway Library A rival nightclub for the Starless Sapphire, this place always seemed to be second best to his glitzy rival and owner [Name] only grew more and more bitter because of it. Despite how pretty and fancy it was, the Rosy Roulette was always second best, a nightclub doomed to live in the Starless Sapphire’s shadow...that is, at least, until Flo died, after that the Starless Sapphire began to crumble and the Rosy Roulette thrived. Sadly, even the Rosy Roulette is no match for time, and as the years passed on, people stopped coming. Eventually it was bought out by the Tanner family and turned into the city’s new public library. It’s a nice library, all things considering, shame the original building had to be torn down though.
☆ - Mary & Lou’s Investigations A small Private Investigations building owned by Marilou Branwen, she took it over for her parents (Mary & Lou Branwen) after they passed away and lives upstairs while her office is on the main level, it’s small and quaint but she gets the job done, though Marilou isn’t on good terms with the city police, especially as she finds them all corrupt and incapable of their job, it wasn’t around during the 1920s as it was made in the 80s, but it’s a nice little place and the go to spot for people that want something solved without getting the rather corrupt police involved.
☆ - Everway Police Station Somehow the only police station in the city, it’s a little run down and the money isn’t great, however it’s been there for as long as anyone can remember. It was there in the 1920s and it’s still here now, the only difference is that now it looks a little more modern. Granted most of the police tend to be corrupt, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a few good diamonds hidden in the rough.
☆ - City Hall Home for the sleazy politicians, this place has been standing in the same spot for generations. It’s kept fairly up to date and is one of the nicest buildings in the city, always has been and probably always will. It’s rumored that in the 1920s, a large sum of the city’s funding came from mob bosses that had made alliances with the mayor, however none of this has been proven as of yet.
☆ - Grandma’s Attic Lucas Hunter fell in love with antiques when he explored his grandmother's attic as a child. In his teenaged years, she helped him open a small shop to buy and sell antiques, including some of her old items. When she died, Lucas sold many of her belongings and used the money to open up a larger store. He risked everything on this little store and the cozy apartment above, and it worked out wonderfully. He passed it down to his daughter and stuff was good for a bit. But all good things come to an end and Eve is struggling to keep the store afloat, to keep the door's open. She's just missing that magic touch that her father had, the ability to bring out the wonder and desire for history in even the most closed off of hearts. [written by .]
☆ - The Morning Bean/Cattoccino Blurb coming soon
☆ - The Whimsy Whiskers Pastry Annette made the name up after her family cat who had passed away a little while before she opened the bakery. She had always wanted a bakery when she was younger and now she has one she is going to make the best out of it. She bakes cakes, cupcakes cookies and Danish’s. The walls inside are a light blue with clouds scattered across them and white tables and chairs scattered across the floor with a light green carpet that looks like grass. The outside is a light pink that has a sign shaped like a cat with a cupcake in its mouth that Annette drew up herself. [Written by elizahamilton]
☆ - Locations Obviously, as a city, there’s bound to be more locations, however I’m leaving it up to everyone to help make them, here is a list of locations most likely to be found in the city, if any of them interest you, feel free to take it and make something out of it! - Bookstore (claimed) - Bar (claimed) - Hotel - Restaurant - Theater - Hospital - Park - Zoo - Animal Clinic - Animal Shelter - Mall - Shops
PLOT ☆ - Meet Flo A bubbly and friendly showgirl dancer at the Starless Sapphire, known for being a bit of a flirt, she appears harmless and uses this to her advantage, making her the go to person for gossip, she seems to be living a peaceful life but has her own skeletons in her closet, she moved to the city after a big fight with her family and her nosy behavior has led to her eavesdropping on her neighbors, she’s currently dating a well known mob boss, however there’s a rumor going around that she’s actually in love with one of the bartenders at the club, she’s an excellent dancer and has talent scouts eyeing her, this has caused somewhat of a rift between Flo and the other showgirls, not to mention the tension she’s caused between the Starless Sapphire and the Rosy Roulette.
Basically, the plot is that someone will end up killing Flo and it’s our job to tell the story of how and why, there’s plenty of openings for characters to choose from, so long as you make sure they have incentive and connections to Flo.
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
☆ - Meet Bridge A young and wealthy man, he’s well respected in his community after taking over his father’s business, even though no one is quite sure what that business is. Bridge is a good guy though, or at least it seems that way, as he is one of the only people in the city that try to clean it up. He’s well known for purchasing old buildings and properties and renewing them, either remaking them as something completely different or trying to revive the original building in itself. However he doesn’t just do this out of the good of his heart, he specifically seeks out old properties that still have history to them, he’ll collect antiques that he finds and sells them off to the highest bidder, he’s made quite a bit of money this way, that’s for sure.
Here we have a similar situation to Flo, as in, one of your characters has murdered Bridge Tanner and it’s connected to the murder of Flo Carter. However unlike Flo, Bridge starts the roleplay off dead.

-- ☆ Florence “Flo” Carter | 23 | Female 1920s - showgirl at the Starless Sapphire - - - Sweet Flo, a young and pretty face that found her way into the limelight, she’s a little naive and a lot nosy, young and talented she’s a person that knows more than she should and has made more enemies than anyone her age has any right making, and by the time this roleplay ends, she will end up dead. [ 𝕊’𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖 ] -- ☆ Eugene Carter | 30 | Male 1920s - banker - - - Eugene is Flo’s older brother and the two of them got into a pretty bad fight before Flo ran away. [ 𝕊’𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖 ] -- ☆ Frank Walsh | 41 | Male 1920s - owner of the Starless Sapphire - - - Frank might be Flo’s boss, but make no mistake, Flo runs the show, Frank has threatened to fire her in the past but knows he’ll never actually do it, he needs Flo to keep his club afloat, but with other clubs and talent scouts circling in on her, Frank will go to extreme measures to keep the limelight on the Starless Sapphire. [ 𝕊’𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖 ] -- ☆ Howard Barnham | 32 | Male 1920s - bartender at the Starless Sapphire - - - Howard seems like a pretty friendly guy, and he is, however recently Flo’s eavesdropping has left him uneasy as he has a few secrets he doesn’t necessarily want getting out and as time goes on, this bartender will do anything to stop those secrets from getting out.

-- ☆ - Georgia Nickels | 29 | Female (she/her) 1920 - showgirl in the starless sapphire
- - - Georgia was born in a small town somewhere out in the Midwest, not big enough to warrant itself a name, fame, or any other markers of civilization aside from a couple of roads and the buildings you can see scattered bout. Her parents were hardworking farm folk, but that just wasn't the life Georgia wanted. She wanted the absolute opposite that her town represented- she wanted to make a name for herself, get some fame, to be adored and love. So she moved out into this good, ol' city and ended up with a job at The Starless Sapphire. It was just was she was looking for to get her own start. That little ol' goal hasn't been going all too well with the rising star of the Sapphire, Ms. Flo Carter, taking up all the attention. Georgia isn't a very gracious fella, rather an envious, shallow, self-absorbed little twit, so seeing this stray girl get handed everything Georgia was working her way towards just wasn't all that enjoyable. It really rather irritated her. [@ creamcrow]
-- ☆ - Sadie Elliot | 26 | Female (she/her) modern - acting-owner of the Cattuccino
- - - Sadie is the acting owner of the Cattuccino, placed there by Bridge Tanner himself. Unfortunately, after a couple of creative differences in regards to the shop, Sadie fears that Tanner is going to remove her from her ever so prized position at the cat café. She doesn't know how she could live without the place... so whose to say she wouldn't trade a life for a life in this case. [CreamCrow ]
-- ☆ - Hudson Tanner | 22| Male (he/him) modern - jobless
- - - Hudson is the twin brother of Bridge, but there relationship hasn't been very positive ever since their father chose to hand over the family company to Mr. Bridge "already has a job buying and selling antiques and buildings" Tanner. Bitterness may be shallow, but it left Hudson with nothing, so who knows what limits he'd breach in order to get the company that should have been rightfully his? [@ creamcrow]

1920s Cast
-- ☆ Benito "Benny" Berlusconi | 27 | Male 1920s - Mafia Boss
- - - Some say he's actually kind and friendly, and most say he isn't. That's how he became "Bad News Benny", to a large portion of society. Regardless, the mafia boss is a frequenter of the Starless Sapphire, especially when it comes to the ever-popular Flo Carter. He's rumored to have a bit of a jealous streak though, so maybe its best if he doesn't know his girl is hanging around that lanky bartender sort. [@ headphoneactor]
-- ☆ Saoirse Murphy | 30 | Female 1920s - Bootlegger, Owner of the Limelight Pub
- - - A crass lass ready to kick some ass, the Irish-born immigrant-turned-bootlegger will do whatever it takes to make sure her business - and the wellbeing of her family - succeeds. She wants to pass the Limelight Pub down to her son, and her son's children, and so on, and the Sapphire getting all that glory doesn't quite sit well with her. [@ headphoneactor]
Modern Day Cast
-- ☆ Harper Williams | 24 | Female Modern day - Journalist, Amateur Sleuth
- - - Perky, spirited, and maybe more than a little nosy, you can expect Harper to be on the scene in a flash, whether she needs to be there or not. In fact, she tends to show up in strange places with shoddy explanations a lot. She has no actual vested interest in the Starless Sapphire as a building or an entity, but does have an intriguing relationship -- or lack thereof, one could suppose now -- with Bridge Tanner himself. [@ headphoneactor]
-- ☆ Finn Murphy | 28 | Male Modern day - Owner of the Limelight Pub
- - - Family and success have always been hammered into Finn's lifestyle from day one. The Limelight never fell into the same pit of despair that the Sapphire or the Roulette did, prospering for a little over a century, now. And Finn intends to keep it that way, as his dad, his grandad, and his great-grandma intended. In fact, he wants to grow it bigger, and had his sights set on the former burr in his nan's side, the Starless Sapphire, before that Tanner boy bought him out. [@ headphoneactor]

1920s
-- ☆ Tovia "Toby" Haas | 24 | Male - - - Born from Jewish German immigrants, Toby has always been the type to sit back and watch how others act before he speaks. Part of this comes from learning Yiddish before he ever learned English, but also because he had to learn how to code switch while in school. With his pale skin and black hair, it was easy for him to assimilate as one of the boys. Toby has never been overtly popular, just one of the kids who fit into the background. This pattern kept up his entire life, as he's a simple bookshop owner, who sometimes visits the clubs in order to maintain some semblance of a social life. This is how he knows Flo, who he's developed a crush on. He knows he has a fair amount of competition, but it doesn't seem to worry him. [arexasaurus ]
Black Star Books -- Toby took over the bookshop when the previous owner, Mr. Black, died of old age. Toby had been working there for years while he went through business school, which bonded him to the place over the last six years. He cried when his deceased boss left it to him, a fact he's not secretive about. The old shop means a lot to him, and working there was the reason he was able to survive. Toby's updated the place a little bit, has a little nook where people can read and drink tea. Sometimes he plays the piano, but most of the time, records are playing softly in the background.
-- ☆ Katherine "Kat" Bellerose | 23 | Female
- - - As her father, Henry Bellerose, owns the Rosy Roulette, Kat grew up there. However, she's taken over the majority of responsibility for it lately. With Henry being a little bit of a drunk and wallowing in his failures, Kat decided to step up and try to save the business. She accounts for their books, and acts as a server and bartender when necessary. The stage is one place she's afraid to go, even though she's often found singing or swaying along to the music while she's working. It's a little fun to get through her never ending shift at the Roulette. It makes her slightly in awe of all the Showgirl's courage onstage. Kat sometimes tries to poach the employees from the Starless Sapphire, knowing her father's feud with Mr. Walsh and it's pure entertainment for her to play into that. [arexasaurus]

After a large fight with his father, Vic ran away from home and moved in with his cousin, Vivian. Flo, a friend of Vivian, helped Vic in getting his job as a bartender. [ .] -- ☆ Riley Watson | Age | Male Modern - Has a Podcast, Solves Crimes - - - Riley is relatively well known - a local celebrity, one could say. He started out with a podcast about crimes, unsolved mysteries, and murder. Looking into these various cases has ignored an interest in crime. Riley made a name for himself by helping the police solve a few crimes - a cheating businessman here, a robbery there. However, he also has a relatively public feud with Bridge. Bridge tore down the building related to the first crime that Riley solved and Bridge has a vocal dislike for Riley's podcast. [@ username] -- ☆ Eve Hunter | Age | Female Modern - Owns Antique Shop - - - Eve grew up in the backroom of her parents' antique shops, spending hours upon hours researching history and the various objects they had in their shop. Even at a young age, Eve felt connected to the shop and often shared the objects' stories with the customers that bought them. Only a year ago, she inherited the shop from her parents. Eve has passion, but not much business sense, and the shop has been failing. Struggling with the possible loss of her passion and her job and her home (the cozy apartment above the shop), it's been harder and harder for her to financially justify turning down Bridge's offers to buy her shop. 1920s Cast
-- ☆ Anthony "Tony" Romano| 28 | Male 1920s - Mafia man?
- - - Tony is a long legged young man with an enigmatic grin that is almost always on his face. He has thick dark brown hair that is usually cut short enough that you don't see the curls. His family is heavily involved with the mafia and as the oldest child in the family so is he. He's protective over his siblings and would do just about anything for them. His parents? Not so much, but they are still family and he is loyal to a fault. He considers Benny family and would do anything for him, as well. He loves to toe the line with the police, breaking the law with just enough evidence to keep their eyes on him, but nothing so obvious that it would get him arrested. [@ username]
-- ☆ Norma-Grace Brown | 24 | Female 1920s - showgirl for the rival place
Norma-Grace is a dainty girl from Savannah, Georgia. Well, technically Tybee Island, but "Savannah" always sounds better so thats where she stakes her claim. She has short, mouse brown, hair and green eyes that are wide and just a little bit too innocent. She is tanned and stand at about 5 foot six. She is absolutely star struck by the "big city", having grown up in Tybee before there was a road that connected her little home island and Savannah, but tries her best to pretend that she was some form of socialite back in Savannah.

Marilou Branwen @tag | 2020s
Marilou’s eyes were locked on the notebook in front of her, she was currently sitting at a table in the Cattuccino, looking over her notes, a cat sprawled out contently on her lap. In the background, Marilou tried to listen as the news on the TV echoed throughout the cafe. “While the police are still looking into it, it appears as though the sudden death of Bridge Tanner was a suicide, we can only imagine the kind of internal turmoil he must have faced before ending his life, the entire city mourns for you, Bridge-“ Marilou tuned it out after that, her brow furrowing as she stared down at her notes. Unfortunately, Marilou couldn’t exactly say that the news was right - of course, when were they ever? - as she could say with a surety that few were actually mourning his death today. Bridge was many things and favorable had never been one of them, as far as Marilou could tell, the young Tanner twin had made more enemies than friends during his adventures throughout Everway. A well known one being Riley Watson, a well known mystery podcaster, he had gained a rather large following in Everway and Marilou was certain he would have plenty to say about the most recent death of Bridge Tanner. Maybe Marilou would even listen in this time, just to hear it herself. She occasionally listened to his podcast when she couldn’t sleep at night and needed a distraction, and something told her she’d want to hear this one. Frowning, she tapped her pen against the table. “It doesn’t add up...” She commented as she looked over the notes. No one had asked her to investigate Bridge’s death, and yet here she was, staring at her notebook and trying to figure it out. Perhaps it was because she hardly trusted the police to do their job, or maybe it was for herself more than anything else. Either way, though the media seemed to accept it as suicide, Marilou...she wasn’t so sure.

Rosa Berlusconi @tag | 2020s
Perched on a chair, watching the TV, Rosa leaned back, head cocked to the side. So this was it then, Tanner was dead. At the reassurance, Rosa’s shoulders relaxed as the tension drained from them. He was dead, gone, and now there was one less person in her way. Bridge had caused enough problems for her recently, what with the whole buying the Starless Sapphire thing. Personally, Rosa didn’t care for the building and she never had, however it had meant something to her family for as long as she could remember. She was very young when her great grandfather died, however she could remember the stories everyone shared about him, and one of the things that stood out to her the most was how adamant he had always been about keeping the club closed. She knew the gist of it, some showgirl he used to date had died there and pretty soon after, it’s popularity sank until finally, it was as dead as that showgirl. Now all that remained was an old building that some believed to be haunted or cursed, while others simply didn’t bother to go near it, and that’s how Rosa had wanted to keep it, even if it seemed as if everyone else had other plans. ”Can’t believe he’s really gone,” she said, though mostly to herself as she watched the news broadcast. Tanner was a pretty big figure in the city, his death was big news. “Looks like he did the dirty work for me, that’s one more thing off my to do list now,” she joked...sort of. It wasn’t so much as if she had planned to murder him or anything like that, but hey, if she could’ve done something to stop him from buying that place, she would’ve. It was really all she had now that connected her to her great grandfather.

Leo Livingston
Leo was working on some paper work for a patient when the news popped up and said that Bridge was dead. Leo stopped writing amd grinned listening to the TV. "So someone beat me to it." He thought out loud. He shook his head and stood up before walking out of his office.
"Well lets go listen in at what people will be saying." He said as he walked down to the cafe that was right around the corner of his building.
Walking into the Cattuciono, he went to sit down in a booth near a group of people and took out his laptop and started to make it seem like he was working when in all honesty he was listening to see if there was any idea on who murdered Bridge.

Simon Lewinsky Unfortunately for Simon, being kicked out of his apartment meant that he needed to find a new place fast, and because of that... well. He was desperate. Which meant that the apartment that he'd found was one that would require him having a second job. Sure, performances paid the bills, but not when he had to go for an apartment that was just barely too much for him to afford.
So here he was, at the Cattuciono, filling out an application and leaving his resume at the barista as he silently cursed Bridges name.
"While the police are still looking into it, it appears as though the sudden death of Bridge Tanner was a suicide, we can only imagine the kind of internal turmoil he must have faced before ending his life, the entire city mourns for you, Bridge-"
Well, speak of the devil.
Simon straightened up his back, blue eyes flashing for a moment as he tsked, highly doubting that anyone was mourning for him. The young man took the chai latte he'd ordered and slid into a booth, leaning forward to try and get a better listen so he could find out what was going on.

HARPER WILLIAMS journalist
"Kack-"
Okay, well, maybe inhaling her coffee wasn't the best way to take this news. But could you blame her? She'd just seen that smarmy pile of trash strolling around town...what was it...maybe a few days ago? He was dead now, apparently killed himself -- so it appeared -- and people were pretending to miss him.
She was just surprised that they'd announced it so quickly.
After all, Bridge Tanner had been the rising star of Everway. The golden boy that owned a bizarre portion of this city, thanks to the fathomless depths of his daddy's pockets. Bridge could say that his business had been built by him, but none of them were that stupid for long.
Needing to take a walk to process this news, or at least ruminate over what it meant for their community as a whole -- peace and the ability to own things, obviously, she wasn't buying the whole "local pillar of the community" spin -- now that the nasty, self-centered son of a gun had finally been bumped off.
She rose to her feet suddenly, wiping the coffee off her mouth and absent-mindedly leaving it on the table, suddenly in a rush to get out of the building, it seemed.
In her haste, and maybe also because of the coffee she was trying to wipe off of her glasses as she walked, she may have bumped against someone sitting at another location in the Cafe, maybe mumbling a rushed, "Sorry about that," before pulling the door open and stepping out into the street, pausing to finally put her glasses back on.

FINN MURPHEY owner of the limelight pub
"Ah! How 'bout a round for the bar?"
It was customary to drink a toast to the dead, to honor their passing, Finn supposed. But he had a different kind of honor to bestow upon the bastard who'd kicked the bucket. More of an ironic sort, since he hardly doubted he was the only person in the room to hate him. "On the house, then, all for the very special passing of our very special friend."
It didn't take a rocket scientist, nor any level of psychologist, to be aware that the Murphey man hated Everway's starlet with every fiber of his being. So of course, his death was the cause of a celebration -- a drunken toast to a soon to be forgotten era of corporate greed and senseless land grabbing. They weren't toasting the death of a man, that would be wrong, they were toasting to the end of a reign of terror, that was all.
The man passed shots of whiskey around the bar, to all the day drinkers, to all the irregular patrons that had merely gathered at the closest social hub to discuss the passing of Bridge Tanner. They were all friends on this day, after all.
"Cheers then, alright?" The Irishman shot a conspiratorial wink towards his patrons, before downing the shot and asking, "Do you lot think he actually offed himself? Or is it just a cover?" Finn could honestly believe it if someone murdered Bridge. Finn would do it himself if someone bought him a pint and gave him a pocket full of change. It wouldn't take that much to convince him.

Rosa Berlusconi
Glancing up from her chair at the mention of free drinks, Rosa looked over to the bar owner, brow quirked curiously. It seemed as if she wasn’t the only one far from disappointed by Bridge Tanner’s death. Getting up to her feet, she walked over towards the bar. “Personally I think someone got tired of him and decided to do the world a favor and get rid of him for us,” Rosa stated as she leaned against the counter. “I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole city wanted him dead, it was about time someone had the guts to do it.” Perhaps it was ill-timed to be talking badly about the mayor’s son considering he had just died, but quite frankly, Rosa didn’t care. Besides, it seemed as if she was in likeminded company. Flashing the bar owner a smirk, she settled down on one of the barstools. “I’m Rosa, resident Tanner hater, and I think I’ll take that drink now.”

FINN MURPHEY owner of the limelight pub
"Are you the resident Tanner hater if I happen to live here?" Laughed the bartender as he handed her the drink. He knew what she meant, but honestly, they could all be the resident Tanner haters. He couldn't think of a single person in town -- and as the owner of one of the only successful bars in Everway, he knew every single person in town -- that was sorely sorry for his passing. Maybe his father, the old coot seemed to dote on his bratty parasite of a son? But that was as far as it went. "But if that's the case, more power to the guy who offed him, yeah? Things can finally start getting back to normal around here."
Finn surveyed the Limelight for a moment, briefly wondering who it was that could have done it. He hadn't been exaggerating, Bridge Tanner held a bumper crop of enemies in Everway. It wasn't hard to imagine. He turned his attention back to his drinking buddy, however, "Rosa, huh? I'm Finn, Finn Murphy. Good to meet ya." The Irishman clinked his shot glass against hers, then. "Cheers."

Simon Lewinsky, 𝕊’𝕞𝕠𝕣𝕖 Talking to: Marylou "Ah-" Hot chai was suddenly all over his shirt and Simon leaped up, startled, before turning to snap at whoever had bumped into him. The young man paused, though, grimacing and trying to brush it off.
Of course, the person was already out the door and he sighed, slinking back to the barista as he shouted out a "Hey, that's rude," Even if that person was already long gone. At least he got the last word in and maybe, just maybe, he'd get another drink and some pity points for anyone. He was ready to start some gossip on this, or at least talk to someone about the death of Bridge, because he would be genuinely surprised if he was popular here.
"Some people," He muttered, brushing past Marilou quickly to go to the barista with a grimace, "Wonder if she was so surprised about his death she just had to leave," He was used to talking to himself, talking out loud, it tended to happen when he didn't have anyone else to talk to in his apartment. He glanced down at the woman on the table, tapping on it absently. "Hey, small chance, but you know who just ran outta here?" He asked, vaguely annoyed at his sweater being temporarily ruined and the thought of going back home just to grab another was an extra trip he didn't have the energy to do.

Rosa Berlusconi
Hm, he had a point. “Fair enough, well from one Tanner hater to another, I have to admit, you have a fine establishment here,” Rosa said, nodding around to the bar. It was nice, Rosa could see herself becoming a regular here. “Guess I have another reason to thank Tanner, without him, I wouldn’t be here today.” As soon as Rosa had heard the news about Bridge’s death, she knew she had to celebrate. It was nice to see she chose the right place. Grabbing her drink, Rosa tipped her head to him. ”Cheers,” she echoed, finishing off her shot quickly before shooting a glance back towards the TV. “So, Finn, can I ask what you have against our dearly deceased? Anything specific or are you just not a fan of the Tanner family?” She asked as she leaned against the counter.

Marilou Branwen
...Wait, was someone talking to her? It took a moment for Marilou to realize that someone had not only approached her but was now making conversation with her as well...or at least trying to anyways. Wow, as far as her deduction skills went, this was not in her favor. Looking up from her notes, Marilou took a moment of so to assess the man in front of her, over all, he didn’t appear overly threatening. “Hm, sorry no, can’t say I was paying attention,” she admitted with a small casual shrug. Business was actually pretty good today from what Marilou could tell, which meant she spent even less time trying to pay attention to Sadie’s customers. Glancing at him again, Marilou raised her brow and pointed the tip of her pencil towards his shirt. “You got a little something...everywhere, actually,” she told him plainly.

Sadie Elliot 2020s :: Cattuccino :: elizahamilton / Leo Livingston Well, if Sadie had known just how many people would be coming to the coffee shop the day Tanner's death was announced, she would have suggested the idea to him sooner. She could only imagine the sneer on his face as he realized the Cattuccino's business was already booming far large than it had been when he was still alive and in charge.
Not much the time to think on the whole situation as much as she wanted to, given she had coffee to serve and cats to keep an eye on. And speaking of cats... "Muffin, baby, you know you're not supposed to be on these counters," she scolded. Muffin, in an ever so eloquent defense, gave a mew in objection as Sadie scooped her off the counter with an arm, for the other was busy keeping a cup of coffee balanced.
She made her way with cat and coffee over to the table Marilou was sitting, to gently and quietly place the coffee on the table. Unfortunately, no time to stop for a conversation as another customer seemed to have caught the gal's attention, and Sadie has also witnessed another customer come on in.
On her way to the man with a laptop, she set Muffin down on the ground with a firm look that hopefully didn't come across as a dare for the gal to hop back up on the counter once more. Once cat-free and at the man's table, she started off with the good ol' starter question for any new blood in the shop, "Hello sir, may I take your order?"

Hudson Tanner 2020s :: In Public :: @-- / -- Was it rude if the news announced your brother's death before calling to inform the family?
Hudson certainly felt as though there were several steps missing from the whole process generally involved with a dead person. Perhaps it was the sudden discovery of the death and the infamy his brother had garnered that sped things along.
Suicide though. Huh.
Hudson wouldn't have pegged him for the type. Apparently, the media did though. Good god, Hudson could only imagine what their father was going through upon this discovery. His 'lifeblood' and 'legacy' and his 'only son that would ever really amount to anything' had committed suicide according to the general public.
The damn man was probably preparing a speech now in front of city hall for all Hudson could bet. It made sense. Gotta keep face since his perfect son wasn't so perfect and now everyone new it. Idly, Hudson wondered if this discovery would lead to his father finally handing over the reigns of the company. He was still mayor and couldn't step down without looking weak to everyone, so the chances seemed higher.
...
It was probably bad to be looking at the positives in this death. Bridge was his twin brother for Heaven's sake! He should be crying right now. Not simply sitting on a street bench as traffic moved on by, looking at the news still rambling on about some more uninteresting topic on his phone. Upon that realization, he pressed the volume button down till the only thing going was the video, until he turned off the screen as well.
He idly wondered just how many articles had been written on the man's death already. Not like anyone was stopping him from checking. Nothing like turning his phone back on and unlocking it with his code before searching up any articles relating to 'Bridge Tanner's sudden death.' This ought to be a little fun in such 'depressing' times.
