Protect the Princess Muse A is a Princess and is travelling to a neighbouring kingdom to marry and secure ties between the two kingdoms. Although it is her duty, it is something that they regret. Muse B is a guard for the royals, and is in the party that is escorting Muse A to the neighbouring kingdom. A long tension has seized the two super power kingdoms and any small issue could cause an all-out war. All seems to be going well until... they are ambushed by bandits. The guards are slaughtered, except Muse B is able to escape with Muse A. But now they are faced with another problem - the two of them, with little supplies, must fend for themselves on their expedition with a group of bandits still on the hunt for the princess. Unbeknownst to them, a dark force wants to capture the princess in order to cause chaos in the world. Neither meant for it to happen, but it suddenly did. Emotions. Muse A is now faced with a decision: go marry someone they don't want, when their heart yearns for another. Or shame their family, their name, and maybe cause a war.
Muse A:Name -
Seryan Terrani of Berrin (Clan of the Wolves)
Seryan is, plainly put, rather aloof. This should not come as a surprise, though, due to her secluded childhood. She is the youngest of four children, but her brothers were all raised quite separate from her. While they were tutored, she was merely kept entertained with the ways of embroidery, sewing, and etiquette. Her mind is vivid and her imagination is grand, which was a spectacle that always ended up with a young Seryan in nothing but her nightgown being scolded for tip-toeing the castle halls at night on her own adventures. Now, a young lady, Seryan is very much the perfect Princess that her Mother and Father desire her to be. Quiet, distant, yet always saying the right things when spoken to, or always smiling just right when being introduced to a suitor or someone important. Truly, it is a bland life for someone who wants much more. Seryan has waist-length, wavy brown hair that is often braided and styled atop her head like a crown. Her eyes, surrounded by thick lashes, are a deep brown colour - almost indistinguishable from the iris. She has a fair complexion, a few freckles dotted over her face, and stands somewhere between 5'6/5'7. She has a defined jaw, straight nose, and rosy lips. It is of no surprise she is a highly sought after Princess. When away from the crowds, Seryan has taught herself how to read (something that her Mother would faint over if she knew). Y'see, that is the truth of Seryan. She is very much fascinated with all the things she is not allowed to do and is as quick with her wits as she is on her feet. It would be shocking for others to discover that their quiet, beautiful Princess was actually sharp-tongued and surprising overzealous for things she shouldn't be (such as reading, sword-work, and other things). Her heart yearns from freedom, but her honor decrees she stays as she is: the perfect Princess. Muse B Name - Ailill Donnabháin
Ailill is soft-spoken, often relying on others to converse around him while he sits on the outskirts, only rarely adding to the conversation. In part, this is because he’s shy, but more than anything it’s because he prefers to observe how other people act around each other. He likes to try to figure people out – to see if he can tell their goals and their hopes and dreams from how they act around others. He is, however, incredibly loyal to the royal family. He was taken in as a young boy, and in exchange for his sister’s education, he agreed to serve the royal family. He managed to work his way up the ranks, starting out as a foot soldier and ending up as a guard directly for the family. He has never really had much of a chance to consider what he wants out of life – most of his life has been driven by what he has a duty to do. He must protect the royal family. When you manage to crack his shell, he is quite a bit more personable. He has a dry sense of humor, and often makes quiet jokes. He has a creative streak and enjoys carving, though he rarely gets a chance to work on his craft. When he cares about someone, he tends to be honest with them about what he’s thinking, as he dislikes conflict. Ailill enjoys making up stories and telling them to the people he cares about, but those are few in number, mostly due to his quiet manner. He is 5’10 and rather lanky, with blond hair cut short and freckles dusting his cheeks. He has light blue, nearly silver eyes. He grew up on the tales of valiant knights and soldiers who were willing to risk everything to protect their charges and win honor, and he strives to be like them more often than not – if only to make his little sister proud. He is best with a sword, but also has practice with archery, and with wielding daggers..

Hi C:
Please RP at least 1 paragraph per post, and be able to RP multiple paragraphs should the circumstance call for it. I'm quite good at matching, I know we all lose muse when life gets rough or the plot hits a low point and that's okay! I live in Australia so my timezone is different to most. A post once a day or every few days is fine, in regards to activity. I prefer to RP MxF romance but it's totally cool if you want lgbtqi+ side characters with their own little side stories C:

I am honestly happy with either! Last time I tried to plot I got like 2 posts into being Muse B, but I wouldn't mind being Muse A.
Do you have a preference?
(Sorry for disappearing again haha)

Seryan
It was of no surprise when Seryan became betrothed to Prince Gwerren. Since she was a child Seryan had listened to the whispers, the hopeful sounds of strangers as they talked about the end of the tension between Berrin and Lynard. As the Princess, it was her honour and her duty to marry Gwerren, bear children, and perhaps die soon enough after that. Her lips twitched into a small, cynical smirk. Well, that would be the hope anyway. Damned if she spent the next forty years listening to the Prince discuss brainless matters such as hunting, war, or worse yet: politics.
"M'lady, here," the carriage that Seryan currently sat in was small so only she, her maidservant Lyssa, and another page Arin fit in with only enough legroom for Seryan to stretch. The voice was from Lyssa, who held out her hand to offer sweetbread. Seryan smiled curtly as she took it from the young woman's palm and began nibbling. The bread was somewhat stale, but it was sweetened with raisins, walnuts, and honey - a pleasant treat. Seryan turned her head to the right and stared out of the small circular window. She gazed for a moment at the guard who rode on that side before she looked past him and into the shadowed depths of the forest that bordered the old road they rode. With her fingers, she absently tore off some more bread and placed it onto her tongue, letting it dissolve somewhat before she chewed. "How much longer until we arrive in Lynard?" Seryan asked softly, eyes still staring outside. "I believe it is a four week journey, M'lady. We have another three weeks until we reach the palace, and Prince Gwerren." Lyssa's song-like voice responded. With great reserve, Seryan stopped herself from physically recoiling at the name. She had met Gwerren once before, three years ago. He was tall and slim and handsome, with a chiselled face, big green eyes, and sandy coloured hair - in all fairness, she would be enviable in marrying such a gorgeous fellow, but even in their brief encounter she could tell there was more to his person than his dashing looks. He was known to have a fiery temper but he was daft and conditioned to the spoiled life of a Prince. Seryan could imagine her life with him would be painfully boring, minus the occasions when she would have to dance delicately of eggshells to avoid causing his temper to flare. I wouldn't quite mind if the journey was delayed somehow. Seryan turned her gaze from the window and sighed softly. Oh, how she would bite her words. It was a few hours later when the commotion commenced. Seryan had managed to doze off in the carriage despite the clattering sound of the wheels and horse hooves all around, but her sleep was interrupted by a sudden stop and shouting men. Beside her, Arin - only a young lass - stared around with confused blue eyes, and Lyssa sat across from her, eyes wide like an owls. "Why have we-" Seryan began, but was swiftly interrupted by a much loud shout. "Bandits! Bandits! Draw your swords!" A cold shiver sliced down her spine and she threw herself to look out the window, gazing with horror as bandits ran out of the forest like a wave. They were like a pack of wolves, licking their lips hungrily, running wild with excitement at the prospect of battle. Beside her, Arin shrieked but Lyssa was quick to grab her shoulders and shake her quiet. We are going to die. Seryan felt it in her gut. "Sit low," she ordered, "no doubt one will open the door. As soon as they do, kick and run." What else could the three ladies do? They hadn't a sword to swing or a bow to aim. Her eyes never left the window, watching in unblinking horror as her men fell and the bandits moved closer.

Ailill Donnabháin
Ailill didn’t expect much from this trip. The princess was to meet some stuffy noble from another kingdom, they’d discuss dowries and engagements, and Ailill would be making this same trip back with the rest of the guard in a few months for the wedding. He knew the alliance was advantageous. It was far preferable to Berrin going to war with Lynard. Prince Gwerren was more than just some stuffy noble, no matter Ailill’s personal thoughts. He had a soft spot for Berrin’s royal family merely because they’d saved his life and given his sister a proper lady’s education.
The carriage was well protected on all sides – Ailill riding front with Captain Ekelsion, and six more riding either to the side or behind. Though the armor they wore was light (no use riding in heavy armor, it would only serve to tire out the horses), all were armed to the teeth and well trained. It was impossible to hide who they were travelling with, so all wore the royal colors, the royal crest emblazoned proudly on their chests. Only the very brave would dare attack.
“Ailill!” Ekelsion called, and Ailill immediately snapped back to reality, eyes wide and alert for danger. “We’re changing positions. The monotony of a long trip must not get to us – it will be easier to stay alert if we have to adjust to a different position every so often.”
“Yes, sir,” Ailill replied, falling back and letting Darcy take his place. If he glanced into the small window of the carriage, he knew he would be able to see the princess, her maidservant, and the page she’d brought. He didn’t look. It seemed far better to him to be out and riding than be crammed somewhere so tight. He certainly didn’t envy the princess her journey.
They changed positions twice more, Ailill taking up the rear when Captain Ekelsion raised his hand for them all to stop. Ailill almost didn’t see the sign in time, so lost in thought that his horse almost ran right into the royal carriage. At first, he thought that Ekelsion must have just chosen to stop them early for lunch. He did that sometimes, if they were making good time and the guard seemed to be flagging. It was different, this time. Ailill could feel eyes watching them, though he couldn’t tell from exactly where.
The arrow seemed to come out of nowhere, the first sign that something was dreadfully wrong. It missed its mark, thankfully, but as the waves of bandits swept from the woods, Ailill had the distinct feeling that his sword might not be enough to keep him alive.
Only the princess matters, he reminded himself, trying not to think of Múireann at home, the promise he had made to her that he’d be back in less than three months, and she had better be done with her embroidery project by then because he simply couldn’t wait that much longer to see it. Ailill pushed away the memory of her laugh. He couldn’t afford to think of what he was leaving behind.
Holding his ground was easier said than done. The bandits weren’t the most strategic foe Ailill had ever faced, but they were the most numerous. Despite being the best soldiers in Berrin, there was only so much the royal guard could do when outnumbered 20 to one.
Ailill swung his sword in a calculated motion, felling several when he felt his horse rear underneath him. One of the bandits cut the leather of the saddle, and Ailill was falling before he knew what was happening. Fortunately, fighting on level ground was more his style. He watched his horse run, fleeing from the bandits, and he couldn’t help but send a silent prayer in the hopes she made it safely to a town. She had been a good horse, a loyal friend through the years.
Out of the corner of his eye, Ailill saw it. A bandit headed straight for the carriage door. Darcy had been guarding it, but Ailill didn’t see Darcy anymore. Pushing back the feeling of loss, he lunged forward, quickly dispatching the bandit and throwing open the door himself.
“Come with me, princess,” he whispered, eying the way out of the carriage. There was a more or less clear path, and it seemed the bandits had moved past their attempts at archery. “This might be your only chance.”

Seryan
Horror sank deep into Seryan's heart as the sounds began. First it was shocked murmuring, then it was clambering and warcries. Seryan watched, her brown eyes wide with terror, as wave after wave of bandit emerged from the forest. All of a sudden, she felt as though she would be sick. She could see from her window as bandits began waving their swords. A guard stood at her carriage door, he held his ground valiantly, and skillfully warded off the intruders. However, there is only so much one man can do - when he was focused on attacking on bandit, another came up from behind. The young guard fell, and the bandit strode forward to the carriage.
There was a sudden crash at the door and Lyssa screamed behind. Seryan scrambled to grab the first weapon she could - a mere butter knife - and she held it with white knuckles. When the door flung open and raised her arm, only to let it drop when she recognized the face staring back. She had watched him out the window earlier that day, the white and yellow wolf crest on his gear proved he was one of her guards. Seryan threw herself out of the carriage - hating how claustrophobic it suddenly felt, and she stared at the surroundings. It was fallen bodies, waving swords, rearing horses, and more bandits approaching. She clasped her free hand over her mouth to stop herself from screaming.
It was selfish, but she hadn't the time to ensure the safety of her haidmaid and page. She could only hike up her dress and race, moving her legs as quick as they would go in order to stay by the guards side. At one point, she had to side-step around a fallen solider, which made her feel nauseous like she'd never felt before. All the while, she gripped at her butter knife as though it was a worthy weapon in this war.
Amidst the running, she caught sight of a strange detail. The bandits all seemed to share a common crest on their shirts. They all had a crow embroidered neatly on them, despite bandits reputation for being untidy and without the coin to have some sort of crest to their name. A planned attack?
In her thought, she tripped and stumbled a few steps, she yelped, although quickly regained her footing. Cursed dress! She hiked it up higher, a dishonorable sight for a Princess, and kept moving. "Where, pray tell, are we going?!" Seryan hissed to Ailill. No doubt the bandits would give chase the moment they noticed the Princess was making her getaway, so they were best to find a way of getting out. "Can we hide in the forest?"

Ailill Donnabháin
Ailill was grateful the princess was armed, even if it was only with a butter knife. It wouldn’t help either of them very much against bandits, but it showed that the princess had there wherewithal to at least try to defend herself. It seemed very… un-princesslike to Ailill, but he was grateful for it anyway. They needed to get out of sight of the bandits. Though Ailill tried to keep the princess as far away from the bloodshed and horror as he could, there were bodies all around the carriage. Fallen men. Fallen friends. Ailill had to look away, despite being trained for situations like this.
They didn’t have much time. No doubt the bandits would notice that the princess was gone, and he doubted either the maid or the page had their wits about them enough for one of them to play the part of the princess. He hated the thought of it – such a ploy would certainly get them killed, but it might be enough to save the princess.
“Tell me, your highness,” Ailill whispered, just loud enough for them to hear over the sounds of fighting, “Do you know how to climb?” He pulled her behind a tree, heart pounding. The tree he had chosen had branches low enough that the princess could climb easily enough, though her skirts might get caught and leave behind evidence. If they got high enough up… the bandits might not look up.
“We can’t make it all the way out of the forest without them finding us. They know the forest better than we do, so we can’t go deeper in without making ourselves easy to track. If we go deeper in the forest, we might also get lost, even with excellent navigation skills. What we need to do is hide… fast. I’ll do my best to lead them away from you if you can get high enough up to hide among the foliage…” The dress might give them away, but it was better kept on her than taken off. If they found the dress, they knew they had lost the princess. If they didn’t, they might assume this carriage had just been a decoy.
Ailill glanced at her, waiting for an answer when he heard one of the bandits behind him. He cursed softly under his breath, turning just quick enough to slay the man. Fortunately, the din of battle was loud enough to cover the sound of this dying man. They were running out of time. If the princess couldn’t climb… they only had a few more seconds to come up with a better plan. Their options were limited, and there were only two men holding the carriage. There were just too many bandits… Ailill shoved the thought away. Save the princess first. Mourn his friends later. If she died, their deaths were for nothing.
