Cauliflower de Vil daughter of cruella and prince penguin
There wasn’t a whole lot that Cauli needed to grab. Just a few things here and there, mostly amusement items that would be used while they were on the train, things that could easily be put away and carried with them throughout the city when they were traveling on foot rather than vehicle. She also didn’t plan on taking anything that was too valuable just on the off chance something was somehow stolen from them. The most she would have would be enough coins to get them where they needed to go and back home, and then some extra just in case something popped up. She was also going to bring her plant book, but Cauli doubted that anybody else would find that all that interesting, or at least interesting enough to put in the effort of stealing. She didn’t know that many other people who were into plants like she was - there were a handful of cowboys that she knew, like Kit, that got really into plants, but she doubted a Slim would steal anything. They were honest folk after all.
Something else she wanted to be sure she did before leaving the house was leaving a note for the rest of her siblings. Cauli knew Rilla wouldn’t get back home before they did - and they were going to go find her anyway, so if she was back home while they were out there in the field then it would kind of defeat the point of everything right now - but she wanted to make sure that the rest of her siblings knew where she would be. Who knew if Laramie, Citrine, Jamie, or Johnny needed to know where she was while she was gone, and if they needed her for whatever reason she wanted them to know that she would be back as soon as she could. Though hopefully nothing would happen while she was gone that required her attention.
With these thoughts swirling around in her mind, Cauli made quick work of getting up to her room and gathering everything she needed. She stuck it all inside a rather worn out purse-like item, making sure to put everything in such a way that they didn’t obstruct the other and would be easy to pull out if they were needed. Once she had everything she took a piece of paper and, after a few minutes of searching for a pen, wrote a quick note saying that she would be gone along with Cassie and Chloe and that she’d be back as soon as she could. The writing wasn’t the best, but Cauli thought it was legible enough. If somebody needed her bad enough they would find a way to read her writing.
Once everything was packed up, Cauli headed back down to where her sisters and the bird were waiting for her. Even though today was one of her better days - both physically and mentally - Cauli still needed to take a moment to catch her breath, her lungs trying to get in as much oxygen as they could yet struggling to do so; as of lately it had been getting harder and harder for her to really have a "good" day health wise, and she was sure whatever condition she had was steadily getting worse, but she didn't want to think about that, especially not right now. The last thing she needed was to worry any of her siblings with this particular issue.
It took her a good minute at least, but once she had been able to catch her breath enough, she walked back down the hall to the main entrance, smiling warmly as she spotted Chloe, Cassie, and Kuraka. ”Alright,” she started, securing the bag of stuff closer to her body, ”everybody ready?”

Chloe de Vil daughter of cruella de vil & lord hater
The Isle
Downtown Cane
Chloe and Cassie excitedly nodded along to Cauli, their voices in sync as they grinned up at their older sister. ”Yes!” They cheered.
Chloe was more than ready, what awaited for them was an adventure and she just knew she’d love every second of it.
- - - - -
Except...honestly? Most of it was boring so far. The taxi ride was boring and even though the cable car was a rare experience for her, Chloe had honestly forgotten how slow they were, by the time they reached Downtown Cane, Chloe was honestly bored out of her mind, however she was determined to remain optimistic, she didn’t get to leave Uptown Cane very often, that alone should’ve excited her.
Soon Chloe found herself waiting outside the car cable station, scanning across the rundown roads of Downtown Cane in search of a taxi of some kind.
”How was is it to cybug territory from here? Think we can walk?” Chloe asked, casting a glance back towards Cassie and Cauli to see what they thought. They didn’t have all day to wait around for a taxi to show up.
”Can I give you lovely ladies a ride?”
Chloe blinked, looking up to find Coy standing in front of them, a horse drawn carriage behind him.
”Hi Coy!” Cassie greeted the McCoy boy with a smile, hugging Kuruka close to her chest. ”Are you a taxi driver now?” She asked, head tilted to the side.
Coy shrugged. ”In my off hours, yeah,” he explained and looked the three of them over. ”Sorry for intruding, I just figured if three de Vils are down here, then it must be for reason, so, what can I do for y’all?” He asked, putting his hands in the pockets of his overalls as he grinned down at them.
Chloe smiled back. Coy was only two years older than she was and he had always been nice, he was a fun guy and Chloe had to admit that his upbeat attitude was contagious.
Holding up the letter for him to see, Chloe responded. ”We need to get this to Rilla right away, it’s really important,” she explained.
Coy glanced at the letter for a moment or so before he nodded, running his hand through his hair. ”Right, that might be a little hard...She’s in Howler District, its....its pretty much overrun by those cybugs right now, she’s got almost all of the extortion bracket there, helping her clean it up, you sure you wanna go there?” He asked, his eyes scanning them over, landing on Cauli as if to give her a questioning look.
Chloe nodded, not giving either of her sisters time to object. ”We have to, Rilla needs this right away, its urgent,” she explained quickly.
Coy let out a hum, however he didn’t object. ”Well, alright, come along then, lets get going,” he said and ushered them inside.
Honestly, Chloe was pretty excited, she didn’t usually get to go on adventures like this, not since...
Despite her best efforts to keep her brain from wandering, it did anyways.
- - - - -
She was eleven, the mafia was new. Rilla claimed that she never wanted this, however Chloe could see the spark in her eyes as people turned to her to lead them, to show them where to go, to take care of them. Rilla could pretend all she liked, Chloe knew the truth.
Her sister was a natural leader and despite how new the mafia was, despite how few of them there were, despite their young age, they were taking Cane by storm. Store owners were forced to listen to them, adults backed away when Rilla walked by and the mafia had quickly begun to gain numbers, especially as they proved themselves again and again to the inhabitants of Cane.
However...not everyone was quite so keen on Rilla’s takeover.
Lord Dominator, once a feared dominator throughout the entire galaxy, now a bitter old hag that refused to believe her glory days were behind her. She had been a thorn in the mafia’s side from the very beginning, refusing to give up control over her district and sending her minions out to attack any soldier that entered.
Chloe knew that Rilla wanted her dealt with, she knew that her sister was a busy don, she didn’t have time to go over there and whack some sense into Lord Dominator...but Chloe did.
Inhaling, Chloe reached her fist up and knocked on the warn down black door, stepping back as it was thrust open, revealing a sickly looking woman with green skin and white hair. ”You’re Lord Hater’s kid, aren’t you?” Dominator asked, gesturing down towards Chloe with the tip of an empty beer bottle.
Chloe nodded, rocking back and forth on her feet. ”He visits on weekends,” she explained with a smile as a lock of platinum blonde hair fell into her face. Her father was one of the few fathers of Cane that genuinely seemed to care for his kids, Chloe was lucky to have him...even if her mother didn’t seem to agree.
”Gross,” Dominator drawled out and leaned against the door frame, her arms folded as she stared down at Chloe in disdain. ”What do you want?” She asked curtly.
Caught slightly off guard, Chloe stepped back, looking up towards her. ”Oh ummm...” Chloe trailed off, unable to keep Lord Dominator’s gaze as she quickly looked towards the ground. ”Can I...Can I come in?” She asked, shuffling her feet.
Lord Dominator stared down at her for a moment or so before finally, she sighed, shrugging back her shoulders as she turned back and walked into her house, door open.
Chloe took that as a “yes” and hurried inside, quickly taking a look around at the shabby house. It wasn’t very large and looked fairly run down, with plenty of broken furniture and beer bottles lying around, and in the background, Chloe could see a small girl around her age peeking her head out from the hallway.
The girl had pale skin with green splotches splattered everywhere Chloe could see, her eyes were a vibrant, mismatched yellow-red with no whites and her hair was pure white with a single green streak going down the middle.
Chloe waved at her. ”Hi Dani,” she greeted sheepishly and Dani quickly ducked her head back out of view.
”Danielle!” Lord Dominator snapped, quickly catching her daughter’s attention as she poked her head back put, looking from Chloe to her mother with wide eyes. ”Look who’s here-“ Dominator paused to placed her hands over Chloe’s shoulders, digging her nails into her skin. ”Is she a friend of your’s?” Dominator asked, cocking her head to the side as she fixed her daughter with a piercing stare.
Dani hesitated, glancing towards Chloe for only a moment before she looked back up at her mother and shook her head.
”No?” Dominator asked, sinking her nails further into Chloe’s skin as she began to squirm. ”Then go back to your room,” she ordered.
Dani didn’t need to be told twice, without a single word the young preteen had vanished from view, leaving Chloe alone with Lord Dominator.
”Now, Hater spawn, if you aren’t here for my daughter, why are you here?” Dominator asked sharply.
Chloe wiggled free of her grasp and stepped back, looking up towards her with determination flashing across her neon green eyes. ”I’m here on official mafia business!” She stated firmly, doing her best to deepen her voice to make it seem more threatening. ”You have refused to give us control of your district for too long and now I’m here to give you a warning,” Chloe started off bravely, trying to ignore the swarm of moths as they crashed around inside her stomach.
”A warning?” Dominator repeated in clear disdain.
Chloe nodded. ”If you don’t give us what we want, we’ll storm the district and force you to give it to us, this is your final warning,” she stated and stomped her foot, hoping that would be enough to make the looming adult listen.
Dominator didn’t seem impressed as she looked down towards Chloe. ”You’re here on your sister’s behalf?” She asked and Chloe nodded fiercely. ”Well, I have a little warning for her too, maybe you can help me deliver it to her, hm?” Lord Dominator asked in a sickly sweet voice as she knelt down to be at eye level with her, placing a finger underneath Chloe’s chin to force her to meet her eyes. ”Tell your sister that if she continues to annoy me, I will kill ever single member in that little club of hers, starting with you.” Just then, Dominator grabbed Chloe by her wrist and yanked her forward, dragging her towards the kitchen.
Chloe struggled to free herself but...
~ ~ ~
Falling in and out of consciousness, Chloe opened up her eye, wincing as the pain across her face worsened, sitting beside her bed were almost all her siblings, even little Jamie.
Instantly, Cassie smiled down at her, noticing that she had awoken. ”It’s okay Clo, don’t move, you need to rest..” She said, reaching a hand out to gently brush some of Chloe’s hair out of her face.
In the distance she could hear Rilla talking to some of the older mafia kids, like the Slim quads and her administration, however upon hearing Cassie’s voice, Rilla turned around, briskly walking over to join Chloe by her bedside. ”She’s awake,” Rilla commented, looking down towards her. ”Hey, how’re you holding up?” She asked, voice soft.
Chloe groaned. ”Pain...” she muttered quietly, not really aware of anything else, the pain was too much.
Rilla nodded and stepped back. ”I know, just...rest, okay?” She asked, pausing for a moment longer before she turned away and snapped her attention back to the mafia members clustered in the hallway. ”Alright, this ends now, Tex-“
Instantly a tall, lanky teenager around Rilla’s age stepped forward, his dark red hair poking out from underneath the cowboy hat resting atop his head. ”Find one of Dominator’s little minions, tell them to deliver a message to her,” she ordered.
Tex nodded. ”Righ-uh, what message?” He asked.
Rilla’s gaze hardened as she walked past him, grabbing a gun from off the table by the door. ”Tell them to let her know that her time is up and I’m coming for her,” Rilla ordered as she walked down the hallway and out of view.
- - - - -
”Chloe, hey, you there?” Cassie asked, nudging Chloe back into consciousness.
Chloe blinked, looking towards her twin with a flicker of confusion. ”Huh?” She asked.
Cassie looked at her weird and gestured outside. ”We’re here,” she explained.
Chloe looked out the window of the carriage, her eye landing on the sight outside.
It was mostly deserted, a couple small dumpster fires lining the alleyways, torn apart remains of cybugs stretched out as far as the eye could see, an air of silence hovering over them, as if even a whisper would echo into the darkness.
”I...I didn’t realize it was so bad,” she muttered quietly.
”Yeah, those cybugs sure did a number here, didn’t they?” Coy asked, leaning back from the front of the carriage. ”Well, anyways, good luck, this is as far as I go, those cybugs give me the creeps,” he explained, shivering as he mentioned them.
Chloe cast a glance towards Cassie and Cauli before she nodded and got out, holding the letter close to her chest as she looked out towards the darkened alleyways.
Somewhere down there, a battle was going on as Rilla forced the cybugs back, and now they were going to head right into the middle of it.

Aloysia Pendragon daughter of arthur pendragon & a unicorn
Auradon
The Owl House, Boiling Isles
Though Aloysia mainly stayed in Camelot, it wasn’t unusual for her to visit the Boiling Isles, especially over the summer so she could be with her friends, this summer was no different, the only main thing was that she knew this would be one of the last days here, in the Boiling Isles, soon enough she and the others would have to travel to Auradon City and attend Auradon Prep. Aloysia had never been there before and although she knew the circumstances weren’t...great, she was still excited for it.
Inhaling, Aloysia focused on the sword in her hand, waiting for the signal to start before she began to spar with Merlion. He was okay at it, though honestly Aloysia couldn’t say he was great, magic was more his thing, honestly it was more of everyone’s thing, though Aloysia thought it imperative to learn how to succeed at life without magic as well.
”So what’s Auradon City like? Is it true they have all that technology?” She asked curiously, not too worried about losing the battle.
Merlion shrugged, doing his best to avoid the pointy end of her sword. ”Its alright, though it’s full of stuffy royals and annoying adults, honestly it’s pretty boring,” he admitted simply. Merlion had already been to Auradon City, as he had to attend earlier this year, joining Auradon Prep with only two month left of the school year.
It was unfortunate but...well...that’s what happens when the king found you messing around with powerful magic, magic that had been banned for a long time on Auradon.
Though it didn’t seem fair that now, everyone else has to join Merlion there as well. Well...not Aloysia, she was coming along to be supportive and establish alliances with the other kingdoms, her father thought it would be important to have allies, claiming that just because they were all united under king Adam didn’t mean it would always last, or that the other kingdoms might not find a reason to ruin their peaceful lives.
”So what did you do there all by yourself?” Aloysia asked, watching as Merlion struggled to keep up with her.
Keeping his eyes on her sword, Merlion shrugged again. ”Uh, well, you know, I made due, I figured stuff out, I’ll show you it when we get there,” he promised.
Aloysia looked at him for a moment or so, quickly catching into his hesitance, it seemed safe to assume that this meant he had quite the story to share, he just...wasn’t ready to share it yet, ”Well, I look forward to seeing whatever ‘it’ is then,” Aloysia responded, putting her attention on the match.
Pretty soon she had gotten the sword out of his grasp and tripped him. Merlion fell to the ground and immediately Aloysia pointed her sword down at him.
”I win,” she said, smiling down at him.
Merlion let out a sharp laugh and got back up. ”Alright yeah, but if you had let me use magic, I would’ve won,” he told her pointedly.
”That’s the point of this, Merlion, to teach you how to do things without your magic,” Oliver interrupted as he walked over to join them. He still looked a little bird like and Aloysia assumed he was struggling to become accustomed to his recently human body.
After all, just last week he had been a talking owl, now he was...well...a talking person.
Merlion rolled his eyes. ”I can do stuff without magic, Ollie, this little exercise isn’t necessary-“
”It’s not just for you,” Aloysia reassured him, stepping up before the two of them could get into a fight. Merlion and Oliver hadn’t always gotten along and now that Oliver was human he seemed to think he had some sort of right to fight anyone he disagreed with, it was...tiring to say the least. ”Its for everyone, I want everyone to know how to handle themselves without magic before we go to Auradon City,” Aloysia told him, turning to look towards the others. ”Its important we’re able to follow their rules while we’re there, we’ve caused enough trouble already, let’s try not to cause more, okay?” She asked, arms folded.
Aloysia gave it another moment or so to let her words sink in before placing her hands over her hips. ”Now, who’s next?” She asked.

Hiriko Hamada daughter of hiro hamada & vanellope von schweetz
Auradon
Radiator Speedway, Radiator Springs
Alright Riko, you could do this, this was the second to last race of the season, you need to be at the top of your game. So far, Riko liked to think she had done pretty good, she had won a lot of the races this summer and had still managed to keep up with Small Hero 6 stuff on the side. It was a lot yeah, but it also served as a way for her to keep herself busy. Busy was good, busy meant her mind was preoccupied with racing and superhero stuff and anything else she could find to busy herself with.
It was better than the alternative, that was for sure.
Looking herself over in the mirror, Riko zipped up her jacket, it was black and red with white stripes going down the sides and a raspberry badge had been stitched into the front, just below her collarbone. It didn’t seem like much but it was important to Riko, it reminded her of her earliest racing days, dragging her raspberry ripple themed go-kart through chocolate mud and down candy cane paved roads.
This wasn’t Race 2 Sugar Spiral anymore.
She was in the big leagues now, competing against the children of well known racers from all across Auradon.
Lightning McQueen Jr was the perfect example, older than Riko by three years, the redhead racer had more experience than the others combined, she was good, worthy competition, but she played it too cautious, refusing to take risks.
Chadwick Hicks, he was a year older than Riko was and frankly? He was a jerk. Rude and brash the only way he could really win a race was if he threw the others off their game enough and that was something he was very good at.
Skip Weathers, nice guy, a team player if there ever was one, Riko actually liked Skip, he was nice and had never been a sore loser, he wasn’t the best racer out there but still good enough to be considered one of her main sources of competition, and unlike Chad, Skip refused to play dirty, which - while nice - did leave him losing more often than not.
All three of them were good in their own ways, they brought their own strengths to the table and all of them had won races in the past, however none of them were too big a worry for Riko. Riko had been racing her whole life, it was in her blood, it was what she was born to do, she knew it.
Riko wasn’t going to get into SFIT like the rest of her family, she wasn’t a genius like her siblings or her cousins, she had never been good at that kind of stuff, it wasn’t something she had in her.
But she had racing.
She always had and she always would.
Nodding to herself, Riko looked into her reflection as she pulled her black and red hair back into a ponytail, grabbing her racing helmet off the dresser. ”Alright Riko, pretty soon someone’s gonna come get you, and when that happens you are going to go out there and show everyone what you can do, you’re going to come out of this as a champion and nothing is going to get in your way,” she told herself determinedly.
Pumping herself up for a race was an important part of this whole thing, she needed to believe in herself, she needed to have the confidence of an idiot on wheels if she wanted to win, she needed to sweat, eat and breath confidence, and that’s what she planned on doing.
She could do this.

Cauliflower de Vil daughter of cruella and prince penguin
- - the isle cane
For Cauli both the taxi ride and the cable car ride went way too quickly. All she could think about was how she was voluntarily going into a part of Cane overrun with cybugs, so overrun that Rilla had to be out there for days dealing with the creatures. Cauli could only imagine what it looked like out there. There was probably so much destruction and...and so much death. Cauli knew from experience that even when working together toward a common goal, cybugs turned on one another as quickly as they would any other enemy. They were vicious, bloodthirsty animals that worked with a feral mindlessness that Cauli had never seen in anything else.
Or, well, she wouldn’t exactly call them all mindless.
There had been that one...that one cybug, the one who seemed to have been the leader of it all, the one who seemed to have some semblance of control over all the others. There had been an intelligence there, a dangerous one, and that had scared Cauli deep down into even her bones.
She wondered, briefly, if that cybug had anything to do with everything the mafia was dealing with right now. It would seem likely. And if that was who they were dealing with, the one that Rilla was dealing with…
Cauli’s thoughts were broken when a familiar voice cut through them.
She couldn’t stop herself from jumping back ever so slightly, eyes going wide as she was snapped out of her reverie to notice that Coy had drove up to them with a horse drawn carriage.
Idiot, you should have noticed him coming, Cauli snapped at her inwardly. How had horses snuck up on her? This was only adding to the reasons for why she shouldn’t be the mafia’s underboss, but she needed to snap out of it. Rather than focus on her faults she needed to focus on what was going on, and needed to pay attention to what mattered.
Clearing her throat all the while hoping Coy or her younger siblings hadn’t caught on to her internal struggle, Cauli looked up at Coy and offered him a friendly smile. ”Hi, Coy.” Despite everything it was nice to see a familiar face. Coy wasn’t high up in the mafia, but his brother was, and that had helped give Cauli more room to know more about the dog boy. He was upbeat and positive, certainly somebody Cauli wouldn’t mind traveling deep into cybug territory with. Not that she wanted him in cybug territory either, but she...she felt better if she had somebody else there at least a little bit along the way.
Cauli was glad that her sisters had taken over most of the talking though. She knew she could have done it herself, and she should have been the one discussing with Coy and telling him what they were here for, but she wasn’t sure how well she could have explained herself, not when they were so close to a cybug infested area. She had to use everything in her to not freak out as Coy mentioned how bad it was back in Howler District, but she could feel the panic starting to itch just underneath her skin. Hopefully it would stay there and wouldn’t reveal itself.
As she followed suit and entered the carriage, Cauli only hoped her fears would remain unseen.
The closer they got the tenser Cauli felt. Her hands clenched tightly against the bag she had brought. She stared out, wide-eyed, at the destruction, and that’s when she saw the first of many tattered cybug remains.
That’s when the panic could no longer hide itself.
The last thing she could do was get out of the carriage. Standing there in the midst of the cybug destruction brought her back to just a year ago, when she had been so sure the last thing she would ever see would be the horrors of what cybugs were capable of.
Breathing was becoming harder, her lungs constricting inside her chest. Pressure inside choked her, and as she stared out toward the corpses her eyes began to sting, the tears forming not hiding themselves at all. All she could think about was them, what happened, what she had to see. All she could think about was him, how he was stripped away of flesh and left to bleed out, forcibly being kept alive. He had been a mess of tattered muscle and bloody bones before she...before…
Out of all the things that had happened, out of all the things she had to see, Cauli didn’t think there had been anything worse than what she herself had to do. Watching cybugs tear into one another while also having other things on their mind had been more than enough to throw Cauli down a long path of trauma, it was what she had to do that got to her the most. The cybugs that had been killed during that hadn’t been on her hands. The cybug that killed the others only to tear into their flesh had been the one to do that. But for Cauli…his blood was on her hands. Even if it had been the right thing to do at the time, Cauli knew she would never be able to clean her hands of his blood. Forever was she stained with red.
The thud of her bag falling from her hands snapped her out of her thoughts.
Cauli jumped back only to stumble, barely managing to keep herself from falling. She steadied herself, only to look wide-eyed at the bag now on the ground, hyper aware of how strained her muscles were from tension, how hard it was for her to breathe, how wet her cheeks were from tears. ”I…” She slowly panned her gaze up to Chloe and Cassie. She couldn’t just leave them to go out in cybug territory alone, but...what could she even do to help them?
A pathetic whimper escaped her as she stared at her sisters. Defeated, she whispered, ”...Sorry…”

Abril Blight son of amity and luz
- - auradon owl house, boiling isles
This was one of his last days in the only place he had known. The Boiling Isles had been his home for his entire life. He had never put much thought into traveling to Auradon and staying there for months at a time, but the prospect didn’t scare him or anything of that nature. Sure, it was somewhat intimidating, just like any move to a new place would be, but Abril was sure he would adjust to Auradon life in no time and succeed just as he had done here. He remembered being nervous in his final days leading up to him starting school at Hexside, and now he was one of their top students. He received only praise there, and while he mainly focused on the abomination and plant tracks, he dabbled in the others and did fairly well. The detention track was something he stayed away from, but Abril felt like he could survive in life without anything from there. Not that he had anything against rule breakers - he was friends and family with plenty of them - he just preferred to keep his record clean.
Even now he didn’t have a smudge of dirt on his school record. He was being forced to go to Auradon because of some extreme rule breaking, but it hadn’t been Abril that broke the rules. He was still in the clear, and at the end of the day, that’s what mattered to him. Going to Auradon was intimidating, but he was also excited for the experience. It would be a challenge not being able to use his magic, but Abril felt like he could do it. He had always been good at everything he tried, so why should that be any different now? Everything he had tried included magic, but how different could things be without the use of magic? Abril had wanted to sit down and talk, really talk, with Merlion about Auradon since he had already been there, but there had never seemed like a good time. This summer had been busier than others considering what was soon to come, and so time had been limited to spend with his friend. Abril hoped to amend that in the next few months. Once he had adjusted to Auradon and their magicless way of life he planned on catching up with Merlion and reaffirming that bond they had.
Right now was obviously a bad time to talk. That was the last thing they needed to focus on, and Abril did agree with Aloysia in the fact that they needed to be as ready as they could for what Auradon could possibly throw at them. Abril still wasn’t sure what sword fighting had to do with anything, but he wasn’t going to question it. He realized he was smart, but Aloysia was a princess whereas he was just a regular kid, and he felt like a princess knew more than he did.
Abril was silent for the duration of Aloysia and Merlion’s training spar. He wanted to get a good idea on how they both did things, how they held the sword and what they did to win, in Aloysia’s case, and how they lost, in Merlion’s case. He had to study both wins and losses if he wanted to pick a sword up and come out the victor in his own training session.
Speaking of his own training session…
Abril stepped forward before anybody else in the group could. He looked over at Aloysia as she stood there with her hands on her hips. ”I’ll go.” He felt confident enough now that he could at least pose as a challenge for Aloysia. Even if this was a spar where magic wasn’t allowed, Abril felt like he could hold his own for a while even if he didn’t come out as the winner of this round.

Lily Amara-Wower daughter of liv amara and wendy wower
- - auradon radiator speedway, radiator springs
Racing had never been one of Lily’s interests. It was all too much for her - too much noise, too much action, too much competition, and just too much danger. It was something she would stay far away from if not for the fact that one of the most important people in her life was an avid racer - Riko Hamada.
They had been dating for almost a year now, and to Lily it had been the best almost year of her life. She still couldn’t believe that she had managed to get Riko to like her, let alone to want to date her, but here she was, and ever since then she had been on cloud nine. It was no surprise to know that Lily had been pining after the other girl for years, practically since she had first known of Riko’s existence. If Lily could go into specifics about why she was so into Riko then she would gladly do so, but there were no individual words to describe just how amazing and wonderful Riko was. She was beyond perfect in every sense of the word. Every little thing about her was just right, and to anybody who disagreed with that would be met with a very disgruntled Lily, and she liked to believe that she was very intimidating when she was disgruntled. But beyond that, Riko made Lily feel complete. Riko made her feel like she was more than just some quiet science girl that got way too caught up in her experiments and ideas. Not to get sappy, but Lily liked to think of Riko as her little frog, because what lilypad was complete without its frog? If anything were to happen Lily would be absolutely devastated. She would probably just curl up somewhere and wilt, just wither away until she was nothing left. Lily knew that was a dramatic way to think about something, but she knew it was true. Losing the love of her life - she would go so far as to say Riko was as much - would absolutely kill her, and she would never be able to recover from any event that left her without the other girl.
Luckily though Lily didn’t see anything happening to their relationship. They were both happy and secure, and even after almost a year Lily still felt butterflies in her stomach when Riko was around. She still felt her heart speed up and her face warm up with a blush. The feelings and attraction were all still clearly there, and Lily was sure that would never go away.
While Lily could very easily go on and on about Riko and how the other girl made her feel, she was aware enough of the world around her to realize that the race seemed to be starting up soon. Despite having gone to as many as she could to support her girlfriend, Lily still didn’t know much about races or racing or anything about it all really, but it seemed like things were starting to get going, and as far as Lily could tell, Riko was nowhere in sight. Perhaps she was still getting ready in the trailer. If anything it wouldn’t hurt to go check.
With a plan in mind, Lily turned away from where she had been and made her way toward the trailers. She knew exactly which one to go to, and once there she gave a knock on the door, gentle but loud enough for anybody inside to hear. ”Riko? You still in there?” Lily called out, hoping to hear her girlfriend’s voice answer back from the other side of the door.

Chloe de Vil daughter of cruella de vil & lord hater
- -The Isle
Howler District, downtown Cane
”It’s okay,” she smiled.
When Cauli dropped her bag, Chloe stopped in her tracks. Perhaps this hadn’t been a good idea...well no, it was definitely a bad idea. Chloe wanted to prove herself, she wanted to show that she wasn’t just the damaged de Vil, she wanted everyone to know that she was capable of walking headfirst into danger and coming out of it fine, however none of that was worth putting Cauli through this. Chloe wasn’t sure what happened last year, all she really knew was that Cauli and some random crew kid got taken by the cybugs and Cauli was the only one to come out of it alive. Suddenly her shoulders slouched, her gaze looking down to the ground. Cauli had been through something traumatic and here Chloe was bringing her right back into the middle of it all...some sister she was. ”Cauli, I-“ Chloe started, her breath hitching in her throat. ”I’m so sor-“ Chloe was cut off as Cassie let out an ear splitting scream and Chloe’s attention immediately snapped to her twin, her blood running cold as she realized what happened. A cybug had heard them and was running right at them. The worst part of it though? As the half man-half bug like creature charged towards her, all Chloe could do was stand and stare, her mind flashing back to the last time she had been faced with actual real danger like this. The cybug drew closer. Just then a figure dropped from the rooftop, their blurry shape pushing Chloe out of the way just in time. Chloe hit the concrete floor with a thud, her head whipping back up in time to see Mayleen kick the cybug out of the way. The Auradon-born assassin leapt forward after the creature, drawing two elegant swords from her back as she fought it off, dodging out of the way of an oncoming attack, the cybug screeched at her and swiped at her with their long claw like nails and Mayleen ducked, angling her swords up towards the creature’s torso before she shoved her swords right through its gut, greenish-blue blood splattering out as she pulled her swords back out, watching the humanoid creature fall to the ground as it gave its last breath of life. Chloe’s heart beat fast in her chest as she tried to comprehend what had just happened. Luckily for her, Cassie seemed to have a better grip on reality right now. ”Mayleen?” Cassie asked tentatively, head tilted to the side as she looked over towards the other girl, a haunted, blank look glazing over Mayleen’s honey brown eyes. Mayleen stayed frozen in place for a moment or so longer, clinging tightly to her swords as her muscles tensed. Cassie tried again. ”...Mayleen?” Finally, Mayleen snapped out of it and quickly returned to normal as she sheathed her swords back behind her back, turning her attention towards the de Vils. ”Hey guys, whatcha doing all the way out here? You guys know it’s littered with cybugs, right?” She asked and gave a semi forced laugh as she nudged the cybug corpse with her foot. ”Lucky for you, I was here, yeah?” She asked, pausing for a moment as her eyes landed on Cauli. ”...You okay?” She asked, voice soft as her eyes scanned over the second oldest de Vil.

Aloysia Pendragon daughter of arthur pendragon & a unicorn
- - Auradon
Owl House, Boiling Isles
Aloysia offered Abril a smile as he stepped up, gesturing for him to come forward. Abril wasn’t like the Merlin kids, he was mostly here on the Boiling Isles with the others, however Aloysia still personally believed him to be a close friend of hers, someone she knew she could turn to whenever she needed, and all things considering, he appeared to be taking the news of the massive upheaval rather well.
It was important to note that not everyone from Hexside was being forced to transfer to Auradon Prep, only the ones that Beast deemed troublesome, which unfortunately, seemed to be everyone Merlion was associated with.
Still though, Aloysia was determined to see the bright side of this. ”Thank you, Abril, take your stance,” she told him as she instinctively fell into place, sword at the ready. ”You may take the first move,” she informed, waiting until he was ready before bowing to him, after all, there was etiquette in fencing.
Now, earlier today Eris had complained about why they needed to do this, as there wasn’t going to be any sword fighting in Auradon City, however Aloysia liked to think of this as a way to sharpen their senses, a way to prepare them for the unexpected without falling back on their magic.
Too easy was it to use magic as a crutch for every given situation, Aloysia had even seen Merlion use magic to toast a bagel before, and while that was useful, they had new rules to follow, rules that limited the magic they could use to zero. Aloysia wasn’t a fan, however there wasn’t much they could do about it.
”So, Abril, what are you most excited about?” She asked as she watched the witch. ”In Auradon City,” Aloysia added, just in case that wasn’t obvious from the start. ”Personally, I’m looking forward to exploring what kind of technology they have there, do you think it’ll be anything like magic?” She asked curiously.
Technology was...intriguing to her, to say the least. Aloysia had never really experienced it before, nor did she know what to expect. In Camelot, no one used technology, Aloysia had once asked her father why and his simple answer was that it never led to anything good.
Unsatisfied with that answer, Aloysia had questioned Merlin about it instead.
To this day she could still recall the glazed look he got in his eyes as he stared off into the distance. “Not real gold,” he muttered under his breath, shaking his head. “No real loot, no real wealth, only hours...hours, staring, playing, wasting my time...” After that he must have finished his flashback as he quickly shook his head, patted Aloysia’s fluffy white hair and simply told her that it caused too many distractions for those that weren’t already accustomed to it and left it at that.
It wasn’t exactly the answer she had wanted, but it seemed to be the only answer she was going to get, however that didn’t stop Aloysia from wondering, and one of these days, she was going to figure it out.
Putting her focus back on her friends, Aloysia glanced around at the others as they watched, waiting for the battle to begin. Some seemed bored - cough - Eris - cough - however that didn’t deter her. As far as Aloysia was concerned, this was important, she wanted to hype this journey up, she wanted to know what the others were excited about and what worried them, and talking about it during a sword fight seemed the best way to go about it.

Hiriko Hamada daughter of hiro hamada & vanellope von schweetz
- - Auradon
Radiator Speedway, Radiator Springs
Riko was pulled from her thoughts by the sound of a familiar voice and instantly her heart began to flutter in that kind of way that made you all warm and excited all at once, like you could just about fly if you tried and by warmed by the kiss of the sun, it was a sensation all too familiar to Riko, and she knew the culprit of it as well.
”Lily,” she muttered quietly, under her breath, a bounce in her step as she practically lunged towards the door of her trailer.
Unfortunately for Riko, grace was not on her side today.
In her excitement, he legs got tangled up in each other and with a loud “oomph” she fell to the floor, lying down flat on her chest. ”Owe,” she groaned, pushing herself back up to her feet. Honestly, you would think she’d be more coordinated, or at least, you’d hope so.
Scrambling back to her feet, Riko sprang forward to the door, gripping the handle as she fought to open it, swinging it open just in time to look up and see a blonde, angelic face staring back at her.
Feeling the tips of her lips curve towards, Riko clung to the door as her knees went weak. ”Hi Lily,” she greeted, smiling up at her.
It wasn’t as if she hadn’t seen Lily before, in fact she had been dating the other girl for almost a year by now, however no matter how often she saw her, no matter how often she got to talk to her, Riko still got butterflies every single time.
Her friends could tease all they want but frankly? Riko didn’t care.
Lily had grown to be one of the most important people in Riko’s life, one of those cases where she couldn’t help but absolutely adore her. Lily was Riko’s better half in every single way. Smart, kind, gentle, understanding, all traits that Riko herself did not possess, honestly Riko didn’t really have much going for her, personality wise, and as good as she was at racing, she didn’t really think that qualified as a quality, that was all skill.
But the point was, being around Lily made her feel like maybe she did have something in her favor, that if this walking angel on earth could find something valuable in Riko, then maybe there was something there after all.
Realizing she had been staring, Riko snapped out of it and closed the door to her trailer, clearing her throat. ”So, I’m guessing the race is gonna start soon?” She asked, falling into place beside Lily as she started towards the track. She’d need to get in her car soon - Riko had chosen Ruddy today, as she hadn’t driven him in awhile and didn’t want him to feel left out - however hopefully, she still had time.
Gi and Midge would have Ruddy waiting for her, so long as the race wasn’t too soon, she could afford to wait. ”Did you find a good seat? You wanna be close enough to see everything but far enough away that it’s not like, right in your face, I know my parents got here early to get good seats, so even if you don’t have a good one, you could sit with them, they wouldn’t mind, and if Hikaru says anything dumb about it, just whack him or something, that’s what I usually do,” she rambled, gesturing wildly with her arms as if to further get her point across.
This obviously wasn’t the first race Lily had seen, she probably knew the drill by heart by now, however even still, perhaps out of habit more than anything else, Riko felt the need to go over everything again.

Cauliflower de Vil daughter of cruella and prince penguin
- - the isle cane
She couldn’t do this. She couldn’t do this. It was all too much. Way too much. She had never wanted to step inside a cybug nest ever again, and while this wasn’t exactly one of their nests, it seemed as close to one as possible.
Emotions choked her, pulling at the inside of her throat and clawing into her flesh like a mindless dog. She couldn’t do anything but stand there, frozen, not even able to think of anything beyond what had happened last year, what she had to see, what she had to hear, what she had to do. It was like she was there all over again, reliving every moment of what she had to go through. The odd clicks and gurgles that the cybugs made echoed in her mind. The way they moved in such an odd manner was seared in her memory. She could still hear the harsh sounds of flesh being torn off bodies, the endless drip, drip, drip of blood falling onto the ground in deep red pools. Terrible screams echoed in her mind. There had been so much going on, so much that she had never wanted to see and hear, and now those memories were scars in her mind. No, they weren’t even scars, they were still fresh wounds that pained her at any given moment. She tried as hard as she could to never let those wounds get to her, she knew she had to be strong for Rilla’s sake, for the mafia’s sake, but sometimes it was just too much. Sometimes all she could do was crumble to the ground and let herself be taken over by everything that had happened. Sometimes the best Cauli could do was sit there and let everything take her over.
Cassie’s scream was almost lost in the thundering of memories replaying in Cauli’s mind, but it was there, if only barely.
Cauli didn’t give much reaction at first. Screams were something she was all too familiar with now thanks to everything she had gone through, everything that still replayed in her mind on repeat almost constantly. It was like she was practically unfazed by it all, until she saw it.
A cybug, and this time it wasn’t just some half-eaten corpse.
This one was an actual threat.
The only thing Cauli could see in that moment was the cybug rushing toward her sister. Everything else around her faded into a monochromatic shadow. Nothing else mattered, and it wasn’t long until her mind also blocked out the sight of Chloe as well, leaving nothing but Cauli and the cybug.
Like a twig Cauli’s legs faltered from beneath her. She fell straight to the ground, a scream of pure terror escaping her, though she could barely hear it herself. It was more of a background noise for her, the sound of her blood rushing and her heart pounding the only thing she could actually make out.
This was the first time she had been faced with an actual cybug since everything last year. This was the first time she had to face down one of the very monster that had tormented her, that had tortured her and...and…
Him.
Cauli had been left with her own physical scars from the whole ordeal, but none of her scars even compared to what had happened to him. He had been completely torn apart, an open flesh buffet for the bug-like humanoids. He had been their main course, a free for all meal of gore that kept them coming back for more. His pain had been a way to get Cauli talking, to tell the creatures all about the mafia’s weaknesses, what their current state was. The creatures had been gathering intel, and their leader had been more than willing to pull out the worst of measures possible. The mental strain of all that had left the worse scars for Cauli. Her wounds were now more mental than physical, but that didn’t mean they hurt any less.
What had happened should have never gone down. The cybugs should have never gotten an upperhand on them. He she should be alive. Nothing should have happened, nothing should have happened. Everything should have been okay, it had been a simple mission, but...but…
All she could do was sit there, her elbows resting on the top of her knees while her hands covered her face. Tears fell freely from her eyes, rolling off her cheeks and hands in salty streams that were almost burning down her face at this point. She let out frightened whimpers, nothing more than a terrified puppy that wanted nothing more than to get out of this spot, but she was frozen, she was trapped. She was back in that cybug den where only horrors had went down, and there was nothing she could do about it. Nothing she could do about it at all. At any moment now cybugs were going to come up to her and force her to watch the neverending torture they had him endure. She was going to have to listen to his screams all over again, his pained whimpers that would never leave her mind.
”You okay?”
She knew that voice. It was familiar.
Maybe she was just hallucinating it all. There was no way she was getting out of all this. There was no way she would hear a familiar voice here that wasn’t just the clicking of cybug chatter.
But...the voice. It sounded so real. Sounded like it was...like it was right there.
Should she dare a peek? She wasn’t sure if she wanted to, but...but maybe just this once…
Ever so slowly Cauli pulled a hand away from her face. She looked upward, shocked to see that it wasn’t a cybug standing over her like a menacing tower, but rather, it was Mayleen.
For a second there panic gripped her back into its talons. Had the cybugs trapped the former Auradonian and were now using her as their own personal meal?
”You can’t...they...did they…?” She stammered, unable to get anything solid out. ”Are...wh-what...happened?” And then, the clearest statement of all came off her lips in a choked sob, ”I didn’t want to...I’m sorry…”

Abril Blight son of amity and luz
- - auradon owl house, boiling isles
Let it be known that Abril was not the best with physical attacks. He was much more magically inclined than anything, that’s where most of his education had gone to. Magic was a big thing for him, and he knew that he was going to have to adjust to not being able to use it at all once he was actually at Auradon. He was nervous about that, but he was able to keep his nerves down for the most part. Abril had talked to his parents about it already, though most of his conversation had been directed toward Luz rather than Amity considering she was his only parent that had experienced a nonmagical world before. Maybe she hadn’t fit in exactly, but she had managed to go years without using magic, and Abril had been able to learn a lot from her. He cared about fitting in and everything, but he didn’t mind standing out just a bit if it meant, in the end, he excelled in his studies and became a student the system could be proud of. Besides, he was sure he was already going to stand out giving the fact that he was from The Boiling Isles. He wasn’t so stupid to think that the differences between his group and everybody else would be small. There was going to be a lot to adjust to, but so long as Abril did what he needed to do, he was fine with whatever was thrown his way.
Right now training was being thrown his way, and he was determined to give it all and do his best. He looked over at Aloysia, making sure to keep any and all thoughts secluded from her. He had to give the unicorn his best poker face. He couldn’t give her any openings to find any weakness, any hesitation. Even if this was just a mock battle, Abril wanted to come out victorious. He wanted to prove to everybody, and even himself, that he had what it took to step away from magic and still be a champion.
As Aloysia began to ask her questions, Abril couldn’t help but wonder if this was part of her strategy. Was she trying to keep him from thinking solely on his moves? It would be a good strategy, but unfortunately for her Abril was quick to realize that he couldn’t let himself lose his focus on what really mattered here. He wasn’t going to be rude and ignore her, but he was going to keep his eye on the prize, not the conversation.
For a moment there he remained silent, allowing the unicorn’s words to sink in. After a moment, he found his response, knowing exactly what he wanted to say. ”Isn’t technology like the magic of science?” He pushed a question back onto Aloysia, curious to hear what she had to think about that. ”I mean, from what I’ve heard about it it can do things that sound similar to what magic can already do. Maybe that’s why they have such advanced technology there. If they can’t focus on magic, they turn to science. We have magic, they have science. They seem like such opposite entities, like one can’t exist when the other is there, but a part of me wonders if maybe they complement one another more than we realize. Maybe there’s magic in science, and science in magic. It’s something to think about, is it not?” He questioned, still looking over at Aloysia. All he allowed to show on his face was curiosity, a look that showed just how eager he was to hear her own thoughts on the matter. Perhaps this wasn’t the time for a more philosophical debate, but Aloysia had opened up the floodgates and Abril was more than happy to let his water rush forward even if they were in the middle of a sword fight.
Speaking of the sword fight…
It wasn’t long before Abril sprung forward, going in for his first attack. He wasn’t a physical fighter, but he could copy the moves he had seen during Aloysia’s match with Merlion. He could use what he had watched abominations make when they were used for more offensive tasks. Abril wasn’t a fighter, but he had witnessed enough and absorbed enough knowledge for him to feel like maybe, just maybe, he could come out on top.

Lily Amara-Wower daughter of liv amara and wendy wower
- - auradon radiator speedway, radiator springs
A thud on the other side of the door immediately had Lily concerned. The noise told her that Riko was inside, but what she had heard sounded like it was a bit more than just her girlfriend walking over to open the door. Was she okay? Would Lily find her girlfriend bruised and banged up? Would she have to go get somebody to tend to Riko’s needs before the race started? Or had something so bad happened that Riko wouldn’t even be able to attend the race at all? Lily really hoped that wasn’t the case here; she knew how much racing meant to the other girl, and if she couldn’t do this race today then Lily was sure her girlfriend would be pretty upset about it all. No matter what though Lily was going to be there for Riko, whether that be cheering her on from the sidelines as she sped through the racetrack or being a calming presence there for her while she got looked over by a doctor. Through thick and thin Lily was ready to stand by Riko’s side.
As the door opened, Lily’s worries faded from her like frost in the sunlight. Fortunately, it seemed like Riko was going to be able to make it to the race today.
No matter how often she saw the other girl, a blush never failed to dust her cheeks when she came face to face with her. Lily’s heart did a little somersault in her chest, thudding furiously, timing its rhythm to the beat of the butterflies’ wings that swarmed her stomach. ”I just wanted to make sure you were ready. I mean, I’m sure you are and all, but they seem to be getting antsy out there…” She trailed off, turning to look over at the nearby race track for a moment before bringing herself to look back at her girlfriend. ”I think it’s starting soon, and I don’t think they should be allowed to start without the star of the show.” A smile danced across Lily’s face. The blush against her cheeks deepened, her smile growing all the more affectionate and lovestruck the longer she looked at Riko. It was honestly like this was the start of their relationship, like Lily was still just some lovestruck puppy trying to wiggle her way into Riko’s heart, but she already had Riko. It was hard to believe that somebody like the racer would even want to be with Lily, but somehow she had managed it. Lily, some quiet, nerdy, science girl, had managed to get the girl of her dreams, and she couldn’t be happier. Maybe that’s why she still acted like she was in a honeymoon phase with the other girl - all of this was still hard to process sometimes, even if it had been almost a year by now. She was extremely lucky to have Riko as her girlfriend, and Lily didn’t think she would ever lose that excitement she felt because of that.
She was snapped out of her thoughts when she noticed Riko closing the door and getting ready to walk out over to the track. Lily instinctively followed, falling into place beside her girlfriend. She made sure to walk as close as she could without getting in Riko’s way, wanting to just revel in the presence of the other girl as they walked. ”Yeah, seems like it,” Lily answered with a nod. ”Everybody seems to be getting ready.” Even after all the races Lily had attended she still didn’t know all that much about it, but she could at least tell when things were starting to gear up and start, and all signs were pointing to that being the case here, and if Lily had anything to do about it, she wasn’t going to let the most important racer miss out on getting ready.
Lily would have been content with walking in silence side by side with Riko all the way there, but she was just as happy to listen to her girlfriend ramble on about Lily’s seating for the day. She turned to look at Riko, a dorky smile pulling at her lips as she listened to the rambling and watched the wild gestures take place like her hands were trying to tell their own story. It was adorable, the way Riko could get so into something even if it was just a simple question that had then turned into something more like this. The way Riko got into things that Lily would have never even thought about before was something that only added to the racer’s charm. She had a way of pulling Lily into things she would have never looked into before - like racing, and while Lily still didn’t know much about it, it was something she could appreciate now when she would have never appreciated it before Riko.
As Riko went on, Lily couldn’t help but laugh softly, looking at her girlfriend with pure adoration. A semblance of bravery washed over her and, before she knew it, she had her hands placed gently upon RIko’s cheeks and moved forward, giving her a quick, light kiss, pulling away just as quick as she had come in. She stood as close as she could to Riko for a moment longer, pressing her forehead against Riko’s for a moment as she simply let herself drown in the river of affection she had streaming through her.
After what seemed like decades, but only lasted a second or two, Lily took a step back and looked at Riko with only affection on her face. ”Don’t worry, I have a good seat. I made sure of that,” she murmured, attention only on her girlfriend right now and nothing else.

Li Mayleen daughter of mulan & shang
- - The Isle
Howler District, Downtown Cane
Mayleen stared down into the bug like eyes of the now dead cybug. Her kills were cleaner now, despite the mess, however the look on their eyes was always the same, no matter how many different ways she had ended their lives.
Blank.
That’s what the eyes were.
Blank.
Void of any emotion or feeling, glassy, bug like eyes staring blankly at everything and nothing all at once.
The look was always the same.
For a moment, Mayleen was pulled back to her first encounter with a cybug.
New to the Isle by only a few months, Mayleen had yet to make a name for herself, had yet to fully embrace this dark, villainess side to her that Auradon seemed convinced that she possessed. At the time, she had only been a girl, barely fifteen, deemed evil by the king of the entire world and sentenced to a life on the Isle.
The taste of how scared she had been was still bitter on her tongue.
She wasn’t the first to be sent to the Isle, there were others before her.
Vilhelm, who took his last name too literally.
Andi and Askari, a couple of con artists that were way in over their heads.
Now, her.
Mayleen, too destructive for her own good.
She had actually reached out to the others, hoping that perhaps they could all come to fry veg and unite on the Isle.
Vilhelm never answered the door even though Mayleen could see him through the window. He stared right at her with his cracked glasses and piercing green eyes and he watched and he waited until finally, he turned away.
There would never be any help from Frankenstein’s boy.
Next she sought out the couple.
Andi swindled her for all she was worth and left her on the street.
So, penniless and alone, Mayleen made the trek to Cane.
That’s when she heard the news.
Cauli, underboss of the mafia, had been taken by cybugs. A rescue party was already in place, however they were missing one crucial aspect to this party.
Her.
Someone expendable, someone no one cared about, someone no one would care if they lost, but someone capable of holding her own in a fight, someone capable of being ruthless, of being merciless, someone capable of murder.
She had gone alone, while the rescue party got their attention from the East, and alone Mayleen snuck further into hostile territory than anyone else had ever willingly gone before. Deep into the heart of the beast where the captive stood waiting.
At first there hadn’t been anything, at first Mayleen thought she might just be safe.
That’s when they struck.
First it was one.
Then it was two.
Then came the third.
Eventually, just before she was overpowered, Mayleen sliced off each and every one of their heads.
Their bodies froze, their heads rolled over onto the ground and then their bodies fell beside them, each of their bug like eyes staring blankly at Mayleen.
Giving her head a quick, but violent shake, Mayleen forced herself out of her thoughts, blinking as she looked down one more time towards the cybugs. Steeling herself as she had learned to do, Mayleen put her focus on the de Vils.
They were calling for her, repeating her name.
She tried to pull herself out of her thoughts before the unease of her actions could seep any further into her veins. ”Hey guys, whatcha doing all the way out here?” She asked, forcing her voice to sound normal, even casual, as she focused on the de Vil sisters. ”You guys know it’s littered with cybugs right?” She asked through a forced smile. ”Lucky for you, I was here, yeah?”
Then her eyes flickered towards Cauli and she came full stop.
Cauli.
Cauli shouldn’t be out here.
Not after what she had been through.
Her gaze softened as she knelt down beside the older girl. ”Hey...you okay?” She asked, trying to keep her voice soft as she looked her over.
She looked far from okay.
”Hey, hey, it’s okay, cybug is dead now, your pal Mayleen took care of it for you,” she reassured, glancing back towards Chloe and Cassie. ”I trust you three have a very good reason for being here, what is it?” She asked, voice hardening slightly as she stared the twins down.
Chloe and Cassie shared an unsure look before finally, Chloe held out a finely made letter with an all too familiar royal stamp plastered on it.
Mayleen’s eyes widened. ”Thats from the beast-“ she couldn’t bare to say his name, not after what he had done to her. ”Isn’t it?” she asked and Chloe nodded in response.
”Beast and San, we need to get it to Rilla as soon as possible,” she explained, voice level.
Mayleen assumed she was probably still dealing with the shock of a cybug attack.
Quickly, she got back to her feet and took the letter from them, glancing over it to check on its legitimacy.
Once she was positive this was the real deal, she pocketed the letter and hummed thoughtfully. She would rather not take these three to Rilla right now, not with the how many cybugs were out and about...but she didn’t really trust them to get home on their own without a guide either.
Finally she sighed and bowed her head down. ”Alright, I’ll take you to her, if only because then someone else can take you all home in one piece,” she explained and turned back to Cauli, kneeling down again. ”Can you walk?” She asked. ”I’ll carry you if you can’t, but it would be easier if you walked, in case we run into anything else before we get there,” Mayleen told her.
Right now, Cauli was the biggest concern. Mayleen wasn’t sure how much she could actually handle, being back here, and while she would usually be more than willing to carry her, she kind of needed her arms in case of another attack, unfortunately no one else was really here to carry her either.
The only others in the company was a blind, one armed girl and her physically weak twin sister, Mayleen didn’t trust either of them to carry Cauli, if anything because people were heavy and not everyone could handle the weight.

Aloysia Pendragon daughter of arthur pendragon & a unicorn
- - Auradon
The Owl House, Boiling Isles
Aloysia cocked her head curiously to the side as Abril brought up his point. ”Interesting take on the matter, on that note do you suppose that we, being magical, will be able to have a better grasp and understanding of technology when we get there?” She asked, glancing down towards his feet to check his position. ”After all, if there’s magic in science and science in technology, one would think that if you have mastered one you should be able to master the other,” she added. ”Though that doesn’t take into account the difficulty it takes to learn either, perhaps because of our own magically inclined society, we’ll struggle with the technology and science of the rest of the world,” she countered, careful to keep an eye on his position and prepare herself for his attack.
Science and technology intrigued the lioncorn princess, she had grown up her entire life without it, especially with how adamant her father was about it being bad. Instead, her father had taught her how to be a knight, a ruler, and a leader, while her mother had taught her all about her magic as a unicorn and how she could best utilize it.
Unicorns all had different magic.
There were some unicorns out there that could heal the sick, there were some that could control the very essence of magic, and there were some that had the magic of “rave” and acid. Personally, Aloysia wasn’t entirely sure how “rave” was a beneficial magic ability to possess, but then again, she didn’t have it and she had never been to whatever a “rave” was anyways.
Aloysia though, had much more common magic associated with the unicorn. She had light magic, she had magical bursts of power, she had some telekinesis, and healing magic, she had magic over life in a way and it made her feel connected to nature in a way she couldn’t quite explain, it was as if she knew every living creature personally, as if their spirits spoke to her in a quiet voice she could only hear if she really listened.
Granted she wasn’t the best at magic, but she was far from the worst.
”Boo! Is this a debate or a fight?” Obsidian yelled from his place, seated on a picnic blanket and surrounded by his army of various plushies, a bowl of popcorn in his lap. Clearly the younger boy had no intention of involving himself in the training. ”Nyeh!” He added, throwing a handful of popcorn towards the match.
That was okay, Aloysia would catch him later, for now he could watch.
”You’re absolutely right, Obsidian, this is a fight,” Aloysia agreed, instantly turning her attention to Abril as he struck towards her.
With ease, Aloysia danced out of the way and approached him from the side, striking her sword out in a quick, swift motion as it clanged against Abril’s, her goal was to knock or out of his hands or at least loosen his grip on it, she could focus on winning the fight after she had disarmed him.

Hiriko Hamada daughter of hiro hamada & vanellope von schweetz
- - Auradon
Radiator Speedway, Radiator Springs
Riko was pumped, here she was, about to start another race, one she was confident she could win, with her girlfriend, intelligent girlfriend right by her side...well, at least until Riko got in her car, then Lily would have to take a seat and wouldn’t be able to join her, that was in fact, not allowed for obvious reasons.
Content on rambling until she was finally told to stop, everything Riko had just been thinking about was instantly thrown out the window when Lily kissed her. It was just a soft, simple kiss, nothing that they hadn’t already shared before, and yet...something about it was so different, each kiss was unique and each kiss was amazing, but this simple, little kiss, just a quick kiss before a race, at the moment it meant everything to Riko.
A large and dopey smile stretched across her face as the kiss came to an end, and for a moment all Riko could do was look up towards her girlfriend and stare adoringly at her, a soft sigh escaping her lips as she looked up at Lily.
After a couple moments, Riko pulled herself out of her own thoughts and smirked, gently caressing Lily’s cheek. ”That was pretty gay, Lily,” she told her playfully, never wanting this moment to end.
”Riko!”
However it wasn’t long after that she heard someone call out her name and her hand fell from Lily’s face, turning around to see Skip trotting over to her.
Skip was in many ways, an odd fellow. He was good enough to be in the top five, yet he also never seemed to care all that much about racing in the first place, it was kind of like the only thing that pushed Skip to remain in the big leagues were the friendships he had made along the way.
Which, to be fair to Skip, Riko did consider him to be a friend, perhaps not his best friend - though it was hard to beat Gi - but definitely a good friend.
Blue curls bouncing in the wind, Skip stopped just in front of Riko and panted, signaling with his finger to give him a minute before he finally spoke up. ”Theres....a....new...racer,” he finally got out, pausing for a moment to glance over towards Lily, smiling at her. ”Oh, hi Lily, how’ve you been?” He asked cheerfully as he straightened himself out.
Riko blinked, looking towards the blue haired boy. ”What do you mean, a new racer?” She asked, brow raised. As far as Riko had heard there wasn’t anybody new yet, and even if there were, she hardly doubted it would be enough for warrant this much of a reaction from Skip.
Skip pointed towards another trailer. ”Follow me,” he instructed and hurried off towards the trailer.
Riko quirked her brow and glanced towards Lily, waiting a moment to see what she thought before she shrugged and followed Skip, grabbing Lily’s hand and intertwining them in her own as she brought the other girl along.
Soon they were standing in front of a trailer that looked awfully stylized to fit Zootopia with various different animal prints painted across the entire trailer, claw marks etching the edges of the paint.
”...Lemme guess, they’re from the Boiling Isles,” Riko joked, snorted in laughter as she folded her arms.
Skip immediately sent her an odd look and shook his head. ”..No-no, he’s from Zootopia,” Skip stated plainly, looking towards the trailer. ”I did some research on him, his name is Fletcher ‘Flick’ Slothmore, he’s a rookie that climbed the ranks of Zootopia’s fasted faster than anyone could count, and before anyone knew what was happening, he made his way to the big leagues, I’m telling you Riko, he could really disrupt the whole racer team cohabitation we’ve got going on-“ As Skip began to ramble, Riko cut him off with a sharp laugh.
”Skip, I think you might be overreacting,” Riko told him, walking past him towards the door of the trailer, her eyes glancing down towards the door.
It was unlocked.
Smirking, she grabbed hold of the handle and swung the door open, peering her head inside and doing a quick look around before poking her head back out. ”Fletcher isn’t even in here,” she commented, leaning against the railing. ”What kind of racer shows up late to their first big race? Heh, must be the sloth in him,” she joked again, chuckling at herself as she smugly looking back towards Lily and Skip. ”Trust me, we’ve got nothing to worry abo-“
The sound of a roaring engine cut her off and Riko barely had time to blink as a sleek, recently polished, loud pitch black motorcycle rolled up to the trailer and the guy hoped off, dressed in a black studded jacket and pants and a rather sleek looking helmet over his head.
He parked his motorcycle and took off his helmet to reveal a full head of brownish grey hair that he dramatically flipped back and forth in an effort to get rid of his helmet hair.
Finally, he seemed to realize he had some guests and glanced towards them all. ”Ello there, name’s Flick, best ‘ere racer in all of Auradon, pleasure to meet yah!” He greeted with a cheeky grin plastered across his face and instantly Riko frowned, a small prick itching in the depths of her stomach.
She could already tell this guy was just another Chad.

Cauliflower de Vil daughter of cruella and prince penguin
- - the isle cane
Maybe she shouldn't have gone all the out to the Howler District. She should have went with her sisters to find somebody else to take them. This could have been a job for somebody else, but instead Cauli had gone herself. A part of her knew she had needed to, though. She was the underboss of the mafia, and she already didn't do enough as it was, she needed to step up. But now...but now she was in a situation that made her look even weaker than she already did. Now she was just proving, once again, that she was incapable and that the mafia deserved somebody better.
She was useless. Pathetic. Good for nothing.
She should have let the cybugs kill her.
The cybugs.
Cauli's self hatred was short lived as the frantic panic took a hold of her once more. Fear dragged down her like icy talons, piercing her skin and causing her to flinch back even from the familiar voice of Mayleen. She knew the other girl was a friend, not a foe, but what if...? What if this was some sort of trick being played by the cybugs? What if they somehow managed to get Mayleen under their control and now were using her to pull some terrible act of betrayal? Could she trust Mayleen? Could she trust anybody at all?
...
She had to. Just on the off chance that this was all genuine. This could be the only way she could get out of this situation.
There was a part of her that didn't even want to try getting up. The thought of Mayleen just carrying her struck something inside her that just seemed pleasing, but even in her current state of mind, she was able to realize that being carried wouldn't be the best option. Though her reasoning only went to the fact that she needed to look less like an incompetent fool than she already did. She was the mafia's second in command. She needed to at least try and act like it.
"I can," she murmured, though her voice sounded more unsure than anything.
Just as she was about to try and get up, something that Mayleen had said finally processed in her mind.
'In case we run into anything else'.
"N-no," Cauli stammered, teary eyes looking at Mayleen as she shook her head. "I...I can't..." The chances of them running into more cybugs was high. Too high for Cauli's comfort. She already shouldn't be here, but going any further and risking running into anymore of those monsters...she couldn't do it. "I can't. I...I can't...can't." Fresh tears pooled at the corner of her eyes, daring to roll down her cheeks. She stared at Mayleen for a moment longer until all she could do was reach out and grab the other girl, pulling her into what could only be a sloppy hug. Immediately she began to sob, her face pressing into the crook of Mayleen's neck. "I can't.... Sorry, I'm...I'm sorry." Her words were slurred, sobs shaking her body all the while fear caused her to stay frozen where she was. There was no way she could go any further than this. This was already far enough. Going any deeper into cybug territory would be the end for her. "They'll...they'll kill you...they'll....they'll..." She couldn't say anymore. The only thing she could do was hold on tighter to Mayleen, the tears and panic too much to talk through anymore. She was under control of her emotions, and they weren't about to grand her freedom anytime soon.

Abril Blight son of amity and luz
- - auradon owl house, boiling isles
A laugh came from Abril as he took in what Aloysia was saying. He didn't think she was wrong or stupid for having these thoughts, in fact, he found her question and statements to be rather interesting. They were intriguing. Certainly words to take in and digest to get a full understanding of them.
Even still, he shook his head. "You make a very good point, but I believe that technology will be something we all struggle with. Even if it's like magic, it's still something new. I'm sure there will be some of us that pick up on it easier than others, but I feel like we'll all have our own personal struggles." While he didn't say it out loud, Abril personally believed that it wouldn't take him long to figure out the ins and outs of technology. It had never taken him a long time to figure out new things, and once he had the basics down, he was able to figure out the finer details with ease. He had never really been one to struggle with a subject, so even without magic and forced to learn all about Auradon's technology, Abril was still sure he would have it all down in a few weeks. He'd even be willing to help teach the others that were sure to struggle. There was no way they would all be able to understand it right off the bat.
While Abril had always excelled in his magic, he wasn't afraid of the non-magical world that was to come - he had his nerves about it, yes, but that was different than being afraid. He was sure he would adapt to it with ease. It would take some time to get used to, yes, but he was sure he'd have it all down in no time. He had no reason to doubt his skills, magical or not. Abril was nervous about it, but he knew he could manage. If anything, he was excited for this new challenge. He was curious about it all. The circumstances for why this was happening weren't the greatest, and Abril still wanted to take the time to talk to Merlion about this before they went to Auradon, but this was an opportunity they had to make the most of. This was something they had to embrace, something they needed to learn how to enjoy rather than dread.
It was Obsidian's yell that snapped Abril out of his thoughts. He glanced toward the other boy, an amused smile on his face. "I suppose this is a fight," he called over, echoing what Aloysia had said moments before. While a debate would be fun as well, Abril knew this wasn't the time and place for such things. Perhaps he could use a debate in the middle of a fight to throw off an opponent, but he doubted that would work on Aloysia. She had managed to meet him head on just moments before with her own thoughts and questions about the matter. Besides, Aloysia was quick witted and intelligent, much like Abril himself. He was pitted against a formidable opponent, and he wasn't about to be the one to fall.
While the lioncorn had been able to step aside from his initial move, Abril was quick to react. He held on to his weapon as Aloysia's sword clanged against his own. He shot her a quick look, something that could almost be read as smug. It was nice to have somebody who matched him, a challenge in a way, but he was still sure he knew who was going to come out on top. Abril still recognized that he wasn't the best physical fighter out there, but he had watched her match with Merlion, had watched other fights before. Just from that alone he felt like he could keep up with Aloysia just as well as any seasoned swordsman.
Still holding on to his sword, Abril once again went in with a move, only this time he feigned his attack. He started with an attack that made it look like he was going for Aloysia's left, but just as he was gearing up and making his move, he turned and went for a straight on move, hoping this would catch her off guard and give him the upper hand he needed to win.

Lily Amara-Wower daughter of liv amara and wendy wower
- - auradon radiator speedway, radiator springs
No matter how many times they had shared a kiss before, Lily couldn't help but melt into any that happened. Even if she had initiated this one, and even if it lasted for only a mere second or two, she couldn't help it when she turned into a liquid pile of loving mush on the inside. Butterflies twirled around in her stomach, and as she pulled away from the kiss, she couldn't stop the loving smile that spread across her face as she stared down at her girlfriend.
Lily couldn't deny that she was in love with Riko. She really couldn't remember a time when she hadn't been in love with the other girl. For her the attraction had begun right from the start. As soon as she had met Riko she had been enamored with the other girl, caught up in so much affection that she knew there wouldn't be anybody else for her in the entire universe. Riko was the one for her, and she had hoped that Riko felt the same. She had worried time and time again that it wouldn't be the case, but now, her she was, actually dating the Hamada girl, and Lily's worries had dissipated like dew in the morning sun.
While she could have stayed like this forever, Riko's comment pulled her out of her thoughts. She couldn't help but give a snort of laughter, eyes shining with amusement. "You're being pretty gay yourself," she replied back, leaning into Riko's touch with such ease that she didn't think to watch their surroundings until it was too late.
A second voice that wasn't Riko's caused Lily to startle. She jumped, pulling away from Riko entirely. Her face flushed with embarrassment as she tried to steady herself. Luckily she was able to without any trouble, and once she had eased her slight fright down, she turned to see that it was Skip who had made his way over.
"Hi, Skip," Lily greeted in return, giving him a small wave. Out of all the racers that Lily had been introduced to and knew through Riko, Skip was one of Lily's favorites. He was a good guy, and while he was an amazing racer, he didn't seem cocky about it. He wasn't a rude guy, either. He was genuinely nice and sweet, and Lily liked that about him. She was glad he could be a friend rather than an enemy. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said for all the racers.
And apparently, a new racer was joining the ranks. Lily was curious to find out if this new racer was going to become a friendly competitor, or if they were going to end up arrogant like some of the others.
Lily had no complaints as Riko took her hand and began to take her along as Skip took them to go meet this new racer. Lily was running through a list of scenarios, trying to figure out which one would be the most likely to occur, but each time she tried to think of one, the only result she got was more questions. Where was this person from? What were they like? What was their name? Would they eventually become a friend, or would they enter the ranks of some of the other racers that were just coldhearted jerks? She wondered what they would think about Riko as well; Lily didn't care if they thought one way or the other about herself, what mattered to her was how they thought about Riko. If they didn't like her, and if they weren't nice to her, Lily would have some bones to pick with them, and she knew science, so she knew exactly which bones to pick so that she could cause the most discomfort.
One of her answers was answered as soon as she was able to lay eyes on the trailer that Skip had brought them to. The paint job and decoration of it all screamed animal, and while it did take Lily until Skip outright said Zootopia to figure it out, she had narrowed it down to some place like that. Zootopia made the most sense as it was one of the largest areas where animalfolk and technology coexisted. Not like technology and race cars didn't exist in places like, say, the Jungle or the Pridelands, but Zootopia seemed like an easier place for somebody to gain experience and knowledge in racing.
More questions kept getting answers as Skip and Riko went on with their conversation. This new racer was male, and his name was apparently Fletcher. Lily had to admit that she thought that was a very cute name, and she hoped that, based on that, this guy would be a friend.
And then, between it all, the guy himself showed up.
Lily didn't like to judge based on first impressions, but she had to admit that this guy's motorcycle was certainly way too loud, and she didn't like that. First of all she was worried about this guy's hearing if he went around on such a loud vehicle, and secondly, usually the type of people that made their modes of transportation that loud usually had some sort of ego problem...or they were just stupid, but Lily didn't like calling people stupid because that was rude, so she'd just go with ego problem here, which was also rude, but still.
The first thing she should have said to the guy was 'hello', or something simple like that, but instead, her mouth ran ahead of her mind and, like an idiot, she blurted, "Sloths aren't Australian."
Embarrassment flushed through her like a wildfire. She felt her face warm up to a brilliant shade of red, eyes going wide. "S-Sorry that was...that was rude," she stammered, jitters running down her body as she realized that she had just made a very dumb mistake and was now making herself look like a fool. Practically out of instinct she went and stood behind Riko, slouching down ever so slightly, attempting to use her girlfriend as some sort of shield so that this Flick guy wouldn't be able to see her. ...Though the problem with that was the fact that she was taller than Riko, and hiding behind her wasn't working out quite that well.

Li Mayleen daughter of mulan & shang
- - The Isle
Howler District, Downtown Cane
Okay yeah, Mayleen could see that this wasn’t gonna work out for them. Making a face, Mayleen stood up tall and placed her hands on her hips, looking around. ”...Okay, it’s cool, we got this,” she said at last, thinking on the go. ”Cassie, remember the self defense training we had?” She asked, looking over towards Cassie.
She nodded in response, holding Kiruko or whatever that bird’s name was, close to her chest. ”Okay so, that bird is gonna have to fly, we can’t keep carrying him if we want to make it safely to the campsite, think he can do it?” She asked, pointing her head down towards San’s messenger bird.
Cassie frowned a little and looked down, gently petting the bird’s head, she whispered something softly to him, though Mayleen couldn’t tell what, and finally, after another pause, she nodded. ”I think so,” she agreed, planting a gentle kiss on the bird’s head. ”Go home, Kuruka, we’ve got it from here, thank you for the message,” she told him softly, lifting her arms up to let the bird fly away.
Mayleen watched, waiting a moment to make sure the bird wasn’t gonna fall or fly into a building or something like that - birds were pretty dumb after all - before she looked back to the twins. ”Okay, Chloe, you’re in charge of the letter, keep it on you and keep it safe,” she instructed and Chloe nodded, tucking the letter into a pocket in her jacket. ”Cassie, since I’m gonna have to carry Cauli, you’re going to be our eyes and ears for cybugs, stay alert and the second you even think you see one, call for me, okay?” She asked, hands on her hips.
Cassie nodded, pausing for a moment to glance back towards her older sister. ”What about Cauli? What happens to her if we get attacked again?” she asked, the concern evident in her voice as her lime green eyes looked over the underboss.
Mayleen glanced back towards Cauli as well. ”I’ll put her somewhere safe and you’ll stand guard until the cybug is dead, okay?” she asked, and once Cassie had given her confirmation, Mayleen put her focus on Cauli, kneeling down to be at eye level with her, waving her hand in front of Cauli’s face to get her attention,
”Cauli, I’m gonna carry you, and don’t worry, we’re gonna be fine, okay? Just like before,” she promised in the softest voice she could muster. Mayleen had never really been good at the whole “soft” thing, but here she knew she needed to try.
That figured out, Mayleen scooped Cauli up in her arms, carrying her bridal style. Luckily for Mayleen, Cauli really wasn’t all that heavy.
”Okay-“ she started, looking back towards the twins. ”Lets go,” and with that settled, the three of them marched further into Howler District, a prick of worry itching at the back of Mayleen’s neck.
Hopefully, that cybug from before would be the last they ran into today.
— — —
A long walk later - one that had been surprisingly quiet on the cybug front, though Mayleen did know the best paths too take for avoid them - and they had reached the campsite. Howler District was a mess, it looked more like a battle filed than part of a city, and the campsite was no exception.
Cybug remains were scattered all across the ground, piles of garbage and splotches of drying blood - human and cybug alike - stretched out as far as the eye could see, though no cybugs were seen. Tents pitched up on various areas, and in the middle of it all stood a short woman with curly blonde hair and a long black coat.
”Rilla! Mayleen called, instantly catching the don’s attention. ”I found these three by the edge of the district, they’ve got something important for y-“ before she could continue, Rilla was storming over to them, her cold ice blue eyes hardening like steel.
”What are you three doing here? It’s dangerous, any one of you could’ve been killed! I kept yoh home for a reason,” Rilla snapped fiercely, causing Mayleen, Cassie, and Chloe to flinch.
That’s when Rilla’s eyes landed on her twin, looking her over for a mere moment before her sharp gaze turned back to Chloe and Cassie. ”How could either of you bring Cauli here?” She asked, staring adamantly at the two of them. ”You know what the cybugs...” Rilla trailed off, eyes flicking back towards Cauli again, a flash of concern igniting her blue eyes. ”Cauli?” She asked softly. ”Are you okay?”
Mayleen stood there, awkwardly, trying to avoid Rilla’s gaze.
This sort of felt like a family conversation, which made her presence here all the more awkward, unfortunately, as she was holding Cauli, she couldn’t exactly leave either.

Aloysia Pendragon daughter of arthur pendragon & a unicorn
- - Auradon
The Owl House, Boiling Isles
Aloysia had never dealt with technology before, her father had once tried it out and it ended horribly and ever since then it was just...not something Camelot had, however she liked to consider herself a fast learner of sorts, it had been something her mother had always complimented her on, before she died.
Though, Abril brought up a good point, considering how unknown it was to them all, there was obviously going to be some struggle, even if some of them took to it more naturally than others. ”Well, if I end up needing help, I’ll be sure to go to you,” she told him with a nod of her head, puffy white hair bobbing alongside her.
Abril was smart, he was one of the smartest people Aloysia knew, and he was a good student, if anyone could pick up on technology fast, she believed it to be him. Though she would still ask Merlion later, what he knew about it, since he had already been to Auradon City, even attending Auradon Prep, well before the rest of them.
Once the actual fight began, Aloysia kept her focus on both her movements and the movements of her opponent. Abril was smart, but he wasn’t trained with a sword like Aloysia was.
Clashing her sword with his, Aloysia met his gaze and smirked, pulling her sword away and jumping back, starting a slow circle as her eyes narrowed in on him, lioness like senses keeping her aware of his every movement.
He made a jab for her left and like a rookie, she fell for it.
Wobbling on her feet as Abril’s sword narrowly avoided colliding with her chest, Aloysia leaned back until she steadied herself. ”Smart,” she commented, smiling over towards Abril from the top of her sword. ”You’re catching on quickly, now I know I don’t have to go easy on you,” she joked lightheartedly, though as soon as the words left her mouth, she smirked and jumped into action.
Her sword moved with her with a sense of fluidity, as if it was mere an extension of her arm. She struck the ground beneath Abril’s feet, sending a flurry of dust and dirt into the air, and with the distraction in place, Aloysia backed up, leaping into the air and landing on the other side of him, her feet weren’t quite as firm as she would’ve liked, however she kept her grip of the floor and jabbed her sword closer to him, quick movements speeding up even faster as she moved her sword from one side to the next in an effort to cause a sense of dizziness before finally, she lunged her sword towards Abril’s own, hoping to knock it from his hands.
He was good yes, and already Aloysia had made a rookie mistake, however this was something she had trained for her entire life, and was perhaps one of the only things Aloysia remained confident in her abilities.
Though, she was curious to see how long Abril would last, he was holding his own rather well, so far.

Hiriko Hamada daughter of hiro hamada & vanellope von schweetz
- - Auradon
Radiator Speedway, Radiator Springs
As far as first impressions go, Riko honestly couldn’t say she was all that impressed. She had met a lot of different racers in her life, most of them were from Race 2 Sugar Spiral, the sequel to her mother’s iconic game: Sugar Rush. Sugar Rush was obviously still out there for everyone to enjoy, and was definitely more of the home base for the game kids like herself, however Race 2 Sugar Spiral had gained an awful lot of popularity throughout the years, turning almost all of the racers into mini celebrities.
Granted, they weren’t as famous as The Z Team, but hey, they were still up there.
Point being, a lot of the racers came from widely different backgrounds through their non racer parent, and that background ranged from futuristic robots, various different animals, simple city people, and even one guy from the Boiling Isles. Rhys was cool, Riko liked him.
Anyways, given how different each of the racers were, Riko had already met the type of boastful, “I’m better than everyone else” kind of racer. Chad sort of cornered the market on that, and Trixie was a close second, so Flick’s whole act here, wasn’t that impressive.
Narrowing her brows, Riko glanced from Flick to Lily, to Skip, gauging their reactions. Skip seemed entirely enthralled with Flick, eyes wide as he watched the other man, and for a moment, Riko swore she could see little flecks of stars in his eyes.
Riko rolled her eyes.
Looking back to Flick, Riko tried to act casual, pocketing her hands in her jacket as she shrugged her shoulders back. ”I’m Riko, this is my girlfriend Lily, and this is Skip, Skip and I are some of the other racers,” she introduced, elbowing Skip in the arm to snap him out of his gay trance.
Skip blinked, looking from Flick to Riko as he instinctively moved a little closer to Riko. ”Cool bike,” he commented lightly, pointing towards Flick’s motorcycle.
Riko followed his gaze and made a face. ”It’s not smart to rev up the engine that loud though, you run the risk of accelerating the engine head, if you aren’t careful it could blow up and kill the bike...and you,” she pointed out.
Now, Riko wasn’t much of a mechanic, but Gi was a friend of hers, perhaps even her best friend, and Gi knew about this sort of stuff, Riko had long since gotten used to listening to her small friend vent about all the stupid things people did to their bikes.
Flick laughed, unbothered by the comment. ”Thanks for the tip, mate, but I think I know a thing er two about my bi-“ Flick was cut off by Lily, stopping dead in his tracks as Lily called him out on his accent. He blinked, turning his attention to Lily instead. ”Pardon?” He asked, surprised by her comment.
Riko took notice of Lily moving behind her and figured now might be a good time for her to take over. ”You’re a sloth right? What’s up with the accent?” She asked, brow raised. Now personally, Riko didn’t actually realize sloths weren’t Australian, she kinda thought they were like...koalas, but she trusted Lily, after all, Lily was smart and would know this kind of stuff.
Flick, still taken back by the questioning, blinked again. ”...Oh, righ’ I spent a couple summers there,” he explained simply, and Riko furrowed her brow.
That seemed like a lie but okay.
”Anyway, I think I’m gonna head out, check out the rest of the competition, it was a thrill meeting you all though, can’t wait to crush you on the racetrack,” he said with a shrug, walking past them.
Riko frowned, watching him go, her arms folded close to her chest. ”Great, another Chad,” she drawled out sarcastically.

Cauliflower de Vil daughter of cruella and prince penguin
- - the isle cane
Cauli didn’t notice much going on around her. Her mind was too busy caught in the trap of the past. She didn’t know what to do, didn’t know what she could do. The last time she had been in cybug territory she had been useless, and she was no different in this situation right now.
As soon as she was picked up, she fell limp like a ragdoll. On any other occasion she would be concerned about being a burden for the one carrying her - not like she weighed much to begin with, she was underweight even for an Isle native - but right now none of that mattered to her. Cauli was frozen, useless, unable to even speak now.
The entire trip there Cauli couldn’t stop remembering everything from a year ago. The clicks and chitters of the cybugs replayed over and over in her mind. The stench of rot and death swamped her. There wasn’t anything that could ever erase that from her mind. No matter how badly Cauli wanted to forget any of that had ever happened, she knew she wouldn’t be able to. Not only did it stay in her mind, stuck like glue, but there was an entire gang out there that would never let her live her sins down.
It wasn’t until they had made it to Rilla’s camp that Cauli was able to bring herself back to the real world, if only somewhat. There was still a lot going on in her mind, a lot that she didn’t want to bring up or talk about right now, a lot that was still making it hard for her to do anything on her own, but she felt a little steadier now. Somewhat safer. She could hear her twin sister’s voice, and that at least meant they were somewhere that if something happened, then surely the odds were good that they would end up safe.
It took her a bit to figure out what exactly Rilla was saying, but once it registered in her mind, a sense of protection over her younger sisters rushed over her. Cauli knew she wasn’t exactly in a position to defend right now considering she was being carried by Mayleen, but she felt like she could do a little better now. Felt like she could at least stand on her own, and if she couldn’t do that fully, she could at least support her weight by leaning against something nearby. ”I’m...fine,” she murmured, her words still slow, but no longer a mess of broken apologies and fears. ”I think...I think I can stand now...on my own.” Cauli gingerly reached forward and gave Mayleen a gentle tap on the arm, letting the former Auradonian know that she was speaking to her and not just trying to reassure Rilla that she was okay. Then if things got too bad again they were at least at a camp. It wasn’t a fancy one or anything like that, but it was sure to have spots for Cauli to rest if she absolutely needed to.
Before she was let down, though, she had to make another thing clear. Cauli loved her sister, Rilla meant the world to her, and while Cauli was certainly weak and soft spoken, she also loved and cared about Cassie and Chloe, and she wasn’t about to let them get a talking to from Rilla over something that had been Cauli’s idea in the first place. ”I told them they could come. They’re...they’re with me. We have something...something that can’t wait. It’s important.” At this point Cauli honestly didn’t know who had the letter, so she glanced over to both Chloe and Cassie, silently telling them to show Rilla that they had a message, a message that couldn’t be put off or ignored.

Abril Blight son of amity and luz
- - auradon owl house, boiling isles
There was a sense of satisfaction that rolled through Abril when Aloysia mentioned how she’d go to him for help if she needed it. While he had never outright stated that he believed he would catch on to technology quicker than most of his friends and family, it’s what he had been subtly implying in his last statement. Knowing that Aloysia had picked up on that, or just simply believed in his ability to learn things quicker than most, brought pride to him. Made him want to puff out his chest and put on a cocky little show, but he knew better than to do that. Abril was smart enough to realize that he couldn’t show off. Especially not right now, when cockiness would only end up with him losing this mock battle, and Abril wasn’t too keen on losing. He personally didn’t think he would come out on top, but he wanted to last for as long as he could, give Aloysia a run for her money. He wanted to see how long he could go against an opponent who had more experience, more practice, than he ever could with swords.
A chuckle came from the Blight boy. ”I’m always here to help. I wouldn’t turn anybody down.” If anything Abril never would turn a friend down when they needed him. He enjoyed being the one people came to when they needed help. It made him feel like he was wanted, even needed, and he enjoyed the feeling of that. It made him realize that he wasn’t just somebody that could be pushed to the background and forgotten. He was important, and he liked to know that, liked to feel like he mattered.
Something else that brought him satisfaction was when Aloysia clearly fell for his feigned stab. He noticed her wobble, his sword about to make contact with the lioncorn, but she was quick to regain her feeting. Even still, he had made a rather impressive move, and Aloysia’s praise only confirmed that even more for him. ”You thought you had to go easy on me?” He asked, eyebrows raised as he gave her an almost incredulous look as if he couldn't believe she had thought to go easy on him. ”I may not have the sword expertise that you do, but I’m disappointed you thought you had to tame yourself.” Abril shook his head, a ’tsk, tsk’ coming from him. He was only joking, and made it clear with the tone of his voice, but he had to admit there was a small part of him that was almost annoyed that she had been taking it easy. Abril realized he was nowhere near her level of swordsmanship, but if he had only been able to get in one good strike while she was going easy on him, it meant he wasn’t as much of a natural as he was believing himself to be at this.
But no matter. Even if he wasn’t good at this, he still had his magic. It would be obsolete once they made the move to Auradon, but he would always have that here in the Boiling Isles. What was the need of sword fighting and all that anyway? In the grand scheme of things, he wasn’t staying in Auradon, he was coming back home where he belonged. Knowing how to fend for himself in a foreign land was important, he realized he needed to know how to get by without his magic, but it was only a temporary thing. Auradon wasn’t permanent like the Boiling Isles were.
Now that he knew Aloysia was going to give it her all, he concentrated even more on her movements, on what she was going to do. He went over everything he already knew from how own studies and applied it to what was happening in this moment. If she tried to distract him with a blow of dust and dirt, he knew how to react and find a way out of the debris. Abril mostly studied the art of plants and abominations, dirt and grime was simply a second home to him. He made his own moves here and there, though he wasn’t too upset if none stuck the landing or made the odds shift more into his favor. He felt like he was doing rather good and keeping up well with Aloysia’s own moves, but it wasn’t long until his status as a rookie came to the surface.
In a moment where he wasn’t holding his sword as steady as he would have liked, Aloysia came in with her own and hit his own weapon in such a way that his hand lost its grip. Abril jumped back, watching as the sword fell to the ground and landed without him being able to reach out and get it back into his grasp.
He stared down at the fallen sword for a moment before his eyes glanced up to Aloysia. Without a hint of any emotion, he merely commented, ”Well, I hope I put up a decent fight for you.”

Lily Amara-Wower daughter of liv amara and wendy wower
- - auradon radiator speedway, radiator springs
Lily didn't like to judge people based on first impressions. She realized that people were more than just what they showed on a first interaction. People were complex creatures, and just because they showed one side of themselves at first didn’t mean that was all they had to offer. This Flick guy seemed cocky, and maybe a little over confident, but there had to be more to him than that. Lily was sure of it; she probably wasn’t going to get to know him well enough to see all sides of him, but she could understand that he was more than just what he was right now. Lily wouldn’t judge him for this, even if her opinion of him right now wasn’t exactly the greatest.
For right now, though, Lily remained silent, “hiding” behind Riko as conversation continued on without her input. She wouldn’t be much of a conversationalist right now anyway. For as much as she adored Riko and did her best to attend every race her girlfriend was a part of, she knew next to nothing about racing and cars and motorcycles. She was practically useless in that department. It just wasn’t something her brain could get into. Lily was all about science and chemistry and even biology at times, but cars was a science that was foreign even to her. She let Riko have that expertise, and if she ever had a question about anything, she could always go to her girlfriend about it, and if Riko didn’t know for some reason, there was always Fred, who was even more knowledgeable about vehicles than Riko was, and that was saying a lot since Lily knew Riko knew a lot.
Lily was snapped out of her thoughts when she felt eyes on her. She froze, heat rushing up to her cheeks when she realized it was Flick who was staring at her. She mentally cursed herself for not hiding better, though she should have expected this exact scenario given that Riko was much shorter than she was, and hiding behind her wouldn’t work out even if she had given it her all.
Her first reaction to Flick’s comment was to call him out on it, but Lily had already called him out on one thing moments before, she couldn’t just do that a second time. Plus, she barely knew the guy, and the last thing she wanted was to make an enemy out of somebody. And as another thing, this guy was going to be one of Riko’s competitors, and Lily didn’t want to cause some sort of unfriendly grudge from him toward Riko just because she couldn’t stop herself from blurting out that she had caught Flick in a lie. Well, not exactly a lie, there was no way Lily could prove that he didn’t spend a few summers in Australia, but she knew there was no way he could have picked up on an entire accent just by staying in another country for a summer or two.
This wasn’t something she verbally brought up until the sloth had made his departure. Even then it took Lily a few minutes before she slowly stepped back from behind her girlfriend, straightening herself back up to her full height and letting herself relax. She took in a deep breath, feeling the heat in her cheeks from earlier cooling down. The warm embarrassment dissipated, and once she didn’t feel frazzled anymore, she commented, ”There’s no way he could have gotten an entire accent just by staying in Australia for a few summers. He’d have to be there consistently for years for that to happen. Do you think he’s compensating for something?” Lily’s head tipped to the side in question as she looked between Riko and Skip. ”Or perhaps he’s trying to come off as cool and foreign to push down years of trauma, which I guess is still him compensating for something,” Lily murmured that last part more to herself than to her companions. A part of Lily did wonder if that was the case. If Flick really was trying to push down some sort of trauma, she couldn’t help but feel bad for the sloth guy. She didn’t think she would ever grow close enough to him to ever find out, but she hoped that he had close friends back in Zootopia, or would make lifelong friendships with some of the other racers, and from there he would work through his pain and become a better person from it. Lily hoped the best for him, even if Riko was right about him just being another Chad.
Shaking her head to snap out of these thoughts, Lily focused her attention mainly on Riko. ”No matter how good he is, and no matter how good he is at pretending to be an Australian, you can still beat him.” She then offered a loving smile toward her girlfriend, confident in Riko’s ability to always come out on top. Even if the stakes were now higher with a new competitor, Lily had no doubt that Riko would be number one.

Li Mayleen daughter of mulan & shang
- - The Isle
Howler District, Downtown Cane
Once Cauli said she was okay, Mayleen gingerly placed her back on the floor. She didn’t mind carrying people, it made her feel useful, though as she stretched her arms back and let the tension drip from her muscles, Mayleen had to admit it did feel good to put her down. Cauli wasn’t heavy by a long shot, skinny even for the Isle, however holding anything for too long could make the arms hurt.
Now stretched and refreshed, Mayleen put her attention back to the de Vils. The tension was still icy and cold, Mayleen was pretty sure she could get her sword out and cut the tension with it by now, however as Cauli explained why they were there, Rilla’s shoulders realized and her eyes softened.
Slowly, Rilla took a step back. ”I still don’t like it, all three of you could’ve been killed if Mayleen wasn’t there to step in-“ Rilla paused, giving Mayleen a small nod of acknowledgment. ”But, at least you’re all safe,” she added, looking the three of them over. ”Now, about this letter, where is it?”She asked, arms folded. ”I hardly think it can be that important though.”
Chloe made a face and grabbed the letter from her pocket. ”You’d be surprised...” she commented, holding the letter out for her sister to take.
Rilla quirked her brow and quickly snatched up the letter. ”...This can’t be right,” she started as her gaze flickered across the parchment. ”This...this is from Auradon.”
Mayleen stiffened slightly at the mention of her home. She had already known that it came from Auradon, and yet hearing Rilla say it just made it ever more prominent.
Auradon...why would Auradon send them a letter? Why would Beast of all people send a letter to the Isle?
A small part of her hoped it was about her.
A tiny part of her couldn’t help but wish that Auradon had realized they shouldn’t have sent her here and were writing to request her return.
She knew it was stupid, she knew the others hadn’t been that lucky and neither would she, and yet...yet she still...she still hoped all the same. Was that foolish? After all, she had made a life for herself here, she had risen in the ranks of the biggest gang on the Isle and become a trusted friend to the most important family in Cane. Granted she had also made a lot of enemies, like Shan Shi for instance, but honestly, it wasn’t like Auradon was full of friends for her either.
Finally, Mayleen found her voice. ”What does it say?” She asked, eyes glancing down towards the letter in Rilla’s hands.
Rilla didn’t answer right away, instead she carefully opened the letter and read it in silence.
The moments dragged on for what felt like an eternity before finally, Rilla snapped the letter shut. ”Mayleen, I need you to take this to Blackwick, bring it to Eli and have him read it over as soon as possible,” she ordered briskly, walking over to a small table as she began to scratch down a note of her own. ”I’m including a note to go along with it, make sure he receives both, go now and be quick, I need you to back here as soon as you can,” she instructed as she finished her note.
”Cauli, you and the twins will return home immediately as well, I want you to rest for a day or so, I’m calling for an energy meeting with the administration,” Rilla continued, folding her note up and placing it with the letter.
Quickly, she snapped her fingers and gestured for a couple of the mafia members over to her. ”Cab, Mikhail, take my sisters home, use the back, it’s safer,” she ordered, looking over both the Legume’s eldest and the polar bear boy with a stern, steady gaze. ”Hans, inform Chance, Somesh, Harley, and Lou about the meeting, we’ll be hosting it at Dragonreach Clocktower in precisely three days, that should give me enough time to clear the area of cybugs,” she explained.
Mayleen figured Rilla wouldn’t have wanted to leave unfinished business like an entire area of Cane infested with cybugs, lying around.
Still, everything was happening so fast, and as Rilla shoved the letter back towards Mayleen, she scrambled to pick it up, blinking as she looked at Rilla with wide, confused eyes. ”Rilla, what’s going on? What did the letter say?” She asked.
Rilla paused, as if just realizing she hadn’t read it out loud.
”Auradon is sending over a unit of their children to test us, and if we meet their standards...they’re bringing us to Auradon.”

Aloysia Pendragon daughter of arthur pendragon & a unicorn
- - Auradon
Owl House, Boiling Isles
Aloysia hadn’t doubted that she would win. Abril was a worthy opponent, but he hadn’t been preparing for this or practiced his whole life like she had. Her father had always encouraged her to learn everything that the knights did, and though she still had to keep up on her own princess duties - and magic lessons with Merlin - she liked to think of herself as just as much of one of the knights as the actual knights - and their children - were. Still, for being someone without all the training needed, Abril had done well.
So, she offered a smile, reaching down to grab his sword for him. ”You were as good an opponent as any,” she complimented him, offering the sword to him. ”You know, with some extra training, you’d make a fine knight.” She meant it too, her knights were important to her, Arthur had always made sure she knew of their importance, and one day, Aloysia hoped to create her own version of the knights of the round table, a unit of knights and close friends that she confided in, each one a hero in their own right.
She wasn’t there yet, but she’d get there one day, and perhaps if Abril was ever interested, he’d make a good fit.
Turning to everyone else, Aloysia scanned across the remaining crowd. ”Alright, who’s next?” She asked, placing a hand on her hip as she looked brightly towards her friends.
— — —
Okay so we’re switching to Merlion’s perspective but I’m way too lazy to get his layout up here too and it’s technically the same post, so just roll with it.
Merlion had watched the fight with some intrigue, this area of expertise wasn’t really his thing, nor was it Abril’s, yet he had found it interesting all the same, and once the fight was over, Merlion’s eyes wandered over to Abril.
Aloysia was now challenging Eris, who seemed all too ready to jump right in, however for Merlion he was more focused on Abril.
Waiting only a moment or so longer, Merlion quietly got up to his feet and walked over to him. ”Hey-“ he started, hands in his pockets. ”Walk with me?” He asked, pointing his head off towards the woods by the Owl House.
Truthfully, he hadn’t gotten the chance to talk with Abril recently, and with Auradon City looming ominously ahead of them, Merlion wanted to check up on his friend. Magic was so deeply rooted in both of them that it was practically their whole lives, and while Merlion had found his own ways to adjust to life without freely doing magic, he wasn’t so sure Abril would adapt as easily as he claimed.
Merlion had the advantage of actually attending Auradon Prep before, and he could say with confidence that it was nothing like Hexside.
Honestly, that ugly tyrant beast of a king had no idea what he was getting himself - and all of Auradon - into by forcing the Hexside students to attend Auradon Prep.
The rest of the world was not ready for his friends and family.

Hiriko Hamada daughter of hiro hamada & vanellope von schweetz
- - Auradon
Radiator Speedway, Radiator Springs
Riko watched Flick leave with her arms folded. They already dealt with enough of stuff like this from Chad, Riko hardly wanted to deal with Chad 2.0 the fake Australian version. Still, there was always a chance that he wouldn’t do that great and this would be that rare time she actually dealt with the guy. ”Ten bucks says he and Chad are either best friends or hate each other’s guts,” she joked.
”I’m on team Hate Each Other, Chad doesn’t like anyone as far as I know, he’s probably gonna take this as a challenge to be even worse,” Skip piped in, coming over to stand beside Riko.
Riko snorted and gave him a fist bump. ”Yeah, I’ll take those odds,” she agreed.
Skip laughed and nodded. ”Alright, I gotta stop by my pit crew before the race, but I’ll see you out there, Riko!” he told her as he started to walk off, pausing to acknowledge Lily one more time. ”Always nice to see you, Lily! We should catch up after!” He offered and with a nod of his head, he started off.
Riko waited for him to go, a small smile stretched across her visage. ”You know, I do like seeing that guy, Skip makes the races fun,” well, more fun than they already were, Riko already found a sense of exhilaration in them, having a friend in Skip was just a bonus.
Looking up towards her girlfriend, Riko smiled and grabbed Lily’s hands in her own. ”Thanks, and don’t worry, I’ll wipe the floor with him, I don’t know what the racers are like in Zootopia, but he hasn’t even seen real racing yet,” she replied smugly, leaning up as she stood on the tip of her toes to kiss Lily’s cheek.
Flick was a new obstacle, but not one that Riko couldn’t face. She had been racing her entire life, both in and out of Race 2 Sugar Spiral, this was her life, honestly, and if there was at least one thing she was confident in, it was her ability to win a race.
”Besides, his accent wasn’t even all that good either,” Riko joked with a smirk as she planted her feet firmly on the ground again, still gently holding Lily’s hands.
She stared up at her girlfriend for a moment or so longer, simply basking in her presence. Between the races and Lily, things were finally starting to turn around from last year, after...nope, she wasn’t getting into that right now, she has a race to win, she needed to be pumped up, hyped and ready to go, Riko couldn’t afford to let herself slip into the same old thoughts about what had happened a year ago, of about the empty seat up in the stadium that used to belong to Vien.
”Alright, I gotta head out there, wish me luck?” She asked softly as she finally let go of Lily’s hand and started to make a step towards the exit.

Cauliflower de Vil daughter of cruella and prince penguin
- - the isle cane
Cauli completely understood where Rilla was coming from. She knew she had worried her twin by coming here, and not only that, but she had dragged two of their siblings along with her as well, but even though she understood why Rilla wasn’t okay with this - Cauli would perhaps be under the same set of thoughts if the roles were reversed - she wasn’t going to let Chloe or Cassie get in trouble for something like this. What they had to give to Rilla was far more important than anything else going on right now - important enough that Cauli had been willing to risk herself and two of her younger sisters by going into active cybug territory. Any other circumstance and Cauli would have simply waited for Rilla to return back home in a few days, but this was big, the biggest news any Isle native had ever gotten more than likely, and there was no way something like this could wait.
It wasn’t long until even Rilla realized just how important this was.
Auradon had its eyes on the Isle, and they were planning something big, something that could maybe, just maybe, get them all off this place and to somewhere better. Somewhere that didn’t have cybugs. Somewhere that they could be safe from harm. This was their chance to start over and have lives they would have never gotten the chance to have on the Isle, but now there was a possibility of something more, something better, and Cauli knew that this was something Rilla would want to act on immediately. This just wasn’t something that could have waited.
While Cauli still wasn’t completely okay, and being in the middle of cybug territory was still doing a number on her mentally, she felt just safe enough around Mayleen and Rilla that she was able to concentrate on what was going on. She was aware that she was given orders to return back home with both Chloe and Cassie, and she was to rest.
Rest. That’s all she did these days. It was all she could do.
Resting made her feel weak, and hearing Rilla give her the order to rest was only a sharp reminder to her that she wasn’t any use to the mafia. At the start she had been something of a help, a bit of a morale booster if anything, and always there to help when she needed to, but now it was a miracle if she could even get out of bed. Cauli had always been sickly, but it had never kept her bedridden like it did now. In the past year it had only gotten worse, and Cauli was sure her...encounter...with the cybugs a year prior had only made whatever ailment she had been dealing with worse. More often than not now she found herself unable to get out of bed, and when she was able to it felt like her lungs were being constantly stabbed. Every move she made was harsh and hurt, and even something as simple as breathing would send immense pain running through her. Even on a “good day”, like right now, her chest felt congested, and like everything was too cramped in there, like her chest was much too small to be carrying lungs inside.
And then she had to add on everything that had happened with the cybugs and how that injured her mentally. Now she was even less of a help to the mafia, unable to give any assistance in this fight Rilla was dealing with, that the whole mafia was dealing with. There wasn’t anything Cauli could do other than rest, and that...that wasn’t helping anybody. She was worthless. Useless. The mafia would be better off with somebody else in charge alongside Rilla.
Cauli looked over at Rilla. She briefly wondered if there would ever be a good time to tell her sister what had been going through her mind for a while now. There didn’t seem to be any ‘good times’ these days, and this was starting to feel like something Cauli was just going to have to bring up regardless of what was going on, but she was aware that right now was most certainly not the right time to tell her sister she was thinking about stepping down from her position as underboss. There was much more pressing matters on their hands right now.
Matters like Auradon finally reaching out and seeming like they were going to help the kids they had been ignoring for decades.
They just had to be on their best behavior and hope that they could meet whatever standards Auradon was putting on them. They would probably be next to impossible standards, but...but Cauli wasn’t going to lose hope that they could do this. They had beat the odds before, she was sure they could do it again.

Abril Blight son of amity and luz
- - auradon owl house, boiling isles
Hoping he had been a good opponent was all he could hope for at this point. The defeat didn’t mean much, but Abril knew it was the start of what was to come next. His life up until now had been full of magic and mystery that most of Auradon shunned. It had been banned ever since King Adam had come into power, and to use it openly was to be asking for trouble worse than anybody could imagine. Merlion had gotten off easy, yet even still his punishment had included dragging Abril and the rest of them off into the world of Auradon as well. Abril didn’t mind that, he was curious about this other side of Auradon he had never experienced before, and he was sure of himself that he could excel there just as he did here, but losing this mock battle, even to somebody who was experienced in the way of the sword, made him realize he had a lot more to prepare himself for than he had first imagined.
He was pulled away from these thoughts when Aloysia went on the mention how, if he continued to train and didn’t just stop here with his defeat, he could potentially make for an amazing knight one day. While being a knight had never been something Abril had found interest in, it did swell his chest with pride to know that Aloysia considered himself capable of such an important task. ”I’m honored by your statement, and because of that I may just have to keep this kind of training up.” Abril had always known that knights were important to Camelot. It was just something he had been aware of since he could remember. The Boiling Isles and Camelot were intertwined with one another now, neighbors and allies. Anybody from The Boiling Isles knew all about Camelot while, in turn, anybody from Camelot knew all about The Boiling Isles. It was a healthy relationship, so it was no surprise that Abril realized just how big of a compliment that was coming from Aloysia. Though, he was also aware that the princess had only mentioned a knight, a regular knight. Knights were important to Camelot no matter what, but the most important ones were those who served at the round table. Being a knight with such an honor was truly an accomplishment, and if Abril was good enough to be a knight, then surely he was good enough to be one of the round table. He had to be. He always strived to be the best, and the best was what he always got, so if he ever decided he did want to serve under Aloysia as one of her trusted soldiers, he was going to be the most trusted and the best of the best.
He wasn’t pulled out of his thoughts until the familiar voice of Merlion snapped him out of it. He blinked, turning to look in the direction of where he had heard his friend’s voice. Curious to know what Merlion wanted to talk about, he nodded. ”Right beside you.” It had been some time since the two had been able to actually talk to one another, and Abril had missed being able to go off and spend time alone with Merlion where they could just talk about whatever and pass the time away. He understood why that hadn’t happened in a while, Merlion had been off at Auradon for some time now, and he was just now only getting to come back before they were all shipped off to Auradon Prep. Abril wasn’t about to miss this chance to actually get to sit down and talk with Merlion, not when he realized this could be the only time they had before everything happened. It would probably be a while before they could do this again after getting to Auradon as well, considering Abril and the others would have to adjust. Abril was sure it wouldn't take him long, but even still, he wasn’t about to take this opportunity for granted.
As they headed closer to the woods, Abril shifted his gaze over to Merlion, wondering how his friend had been doing as of lately. He wondered what was going through his mind, wondered how easy it had been for him to adjust to this new life they were all about to be thrust into. Surely it had been easy for Merlion, he was a natural at things just like Abril was, definitely a lot more rebellious in nature and how he went about things than Abril was, but a natural nonetheless.
He offered Merlion his silent companionship for now, waiting to let his friend take the lead with the conversation. Merlion clearly had something he wanted to talk about, and Abril respected the fact that Merlion already had a topic in mind. He had questions himself, but they could be saved for later, and if this conversation was going to go how Abril was expecting it to, there would be plenty of time for his questions to flow naturally into the discussion that was to come.
