|| okay awesome! i'll leave wildstrike open if someone else wants to hop in and interact w her, but i'd love to bother fallenfoot a bit w beetlestep ^^ ||
wildstrike near the fresh kill pile; @/tagged open the cold air was sharp in her lungs as wildstrike took a deep breath. her clanmates were stirring and beginning their usual chatter, but she couldn't be bothered to even try today. it was cold, cold enough to seep through even her thick pelt. she wasn't interested in even feigning friendliness. she had made up her mind, she would do her duties and return to the warriors den as soon as she could.
she glanced around camp, judging who was up and moving. maybe she would slip off to hunt on her own. if no one saw her, no one could bother her. wildstrike stood up, unfolding herself from her huddled position near the fresh kill pile and arching her back in an exaggerated stretch. once she felt the blood flowing in her legs again, she began padding across the camp.

Hawkswoop - ᴏᴡʟ ;;
Hawkswoop's tail stopped flicking in anticipation when his large paws could sense Hornetstar's smaller paw steps moving towards the entrance to her den. Perhaps it was a rather rude awakening so early on the first day of leaf-bare, a day most cats would rather sleep in for and enjoy the warmth of their den, along with their fellow clan mates, for a few more movements of the sun. However, there is no rest for those inside or outside of the territory - at least...there shouldn't be. Complacency kills; Hawkswoop would know. His ear flicked in surprise at Hornetstar's appearance, however. If complacency did not kill, it looked like the leaf-bare wind would. She always looked rather sickly, but Hawkswoop she more than capable of a leader. Even if he did suspect the deputy did most of the work, leaving Hornetstar to be the figurehead. He dare never pry into their personal matters though, he was in no position to unless confided in, and Hawkswoop would rather leave it that way than be concerned over matters that weren't his own on top of his own paranoia. "Perhaps prey would be a sound idea." he nodded slightly at her comment before rising to his paws and walking in step with Hornetstar to the fresh-kill pile. As fresh as overnight prey could be. In an attempt at courtesy, he pulled off a rather plump vole from the pile, dropping it at Hornetstar's feet before picking a small mouse for himself. Anxiety left him with a small appetite. "I hope you slept well through the cold?" Hawkswoop asked lowly, toying a bit with the mouse between his claws, trying to not wake anymore cats than he probably already has in all of his pacing.

( Sorry for the late responses, everyone! I spent most of the day baking, then cooking dinner. rabbitscar I'd love to see Beetlestep and Fallenfoot interact! Honestly, Fallenfoot will probably be like:
Take your time, Briar! <3 Good luck with your final! ) The vole was fat, but somewhat frozen. She discovered this as she settled down to eat it, licking the fur from its tiny body, only to to find that it much resembled a small chunk of ice. She resisted the urge to curl her nose at it, and wrapped her tail around her paws instead. She couldn't turn down the gesture—certainly, not when it was so generous—so she prepared herself for the cold and early meal, and began to chip away at it.
So focused on this task was she, that the bony leader merely grunted at Hawkswoop's question. It took her a moment to swallow her mouthful, before she offered him a proper answer. "As well as to be expected," she muttered, "though I'm assuming that you aren't here because you're interested in my sleeping habits, are you?"
Fixing her yellow gaze to his, Hornetstar pushed the vole towards him. He was, after all, her senior by some moons, and being as large as he was, he was much more in need of a meal than her. Besides, she wasn't hungry, so early in the morning. She rarely ate so soon after waking, and until the sun had broken through the cloud cover, she couldn't bare to eat something so cold. She was already shivering, though you wouldn't be able to tell by the hard look on her face.
"Eat," she ordered. "Then tell me what you're here for."

|| lemonshortbread awesome!! take ur time ^^ also ᴏᴡʟ dope, lemme get something for beetlestep whipped up...||
beetlestep in the warriors den ; ᴏᴡʟ [fallenfoot] the tom looked up as he heard some commotion at the entrance of the den. stonebelly was slipping back into the warmth, fussing about hazelblossom sleeping a little too close to the way out. he had been awake for some time, but hadn't had the interest in going out just yet. it was chilly, the first days of leaf-bare, and his coat was still thin from the warmer leaf-fall. it would become more suited for the wind and cold before half-moon, he knew, but he wished he could will it to grow in a little quicker.
beetlestep watched the small tom for a moment before glancing around the den. most of his clanmates seemed content to huddle in the warmth today. if he'd had any sense, he might have done the same. but a restless energy was hitting him. maybe he should get up and see whats on the fresh kill pile, he thought. although, he didn't want to eat alone. he was never a fan of not having someone to talk to--or, more accurately, at--when he did anything. bringing himself up to sit on his haunches, he looked beside him to where fallenfoot snoozed.
"hey!" he said, a little too loud, placing a paw on fallenfoot's head without hesitation, "hey, fallenfoot! are you up?" his eyes were wide and ears straight, more like an eager apprentice than a warrior.

Hawkswoop - ᴏᴡʟ
Hawkswoop was taken aback for a moment by the she-cat's forwardness, but Hornetstar was never the warmest leader, more so an open ear with a rather straight-forward way of doing things - a leadership style Hawkswoop cared for more than most. However, he felt guilty at eating such a large piece of prey. He was a big cat, sure, but he had enough buffer room to get through a mild leaf-bare without a painstaking effort. Perhaps making the most of the current prey though before it goes to waste would not be a horrible idea. The tom turned the vole in his paws to a part where Hornetstar had not taken a bite of and tried to defrost it to an edible standard. He grimaced slightly at the frozen taste, but all prey would be like that before the hunting patrols went out later to bring back a warm evening kill. Hawkswoop licked his jowls of the frost before turning his large eyes toward his leader again as she spoke to him. "Well I certainly appreciate the food." he said quielty before taking another small bite of the rodent and holding her gaze once he had swallowed. "But yes, as much as I care to hear about how you're doing, I thought it might interest you that both Bumblespots and I have detected some strange cat scents well within the border on the north side of the territory." Would she react an different than his usual paranoid findings? Hopefully, but before Hornetstar could say anything about whether or not it actually interested her, he went on. "If it's alright with you, I'd like to lead a patrol myself and investigate the area some more for any clues if this seems like a potentially reoccurring issue." Hawkswoop could feel one of his front paws unsheathing his claws and curling into the still soft and moist earth below them, tensing up at the idea of strange cats so close to where he and his fellow clan members called home. "It could be a kittypet or passing loner, but strange cats are a cause for concern during leaf-bare. I worry more will get desperate and trespass later."

Bumblespots - rabbitscar ;;
Bumblespots was rather difficult to wake up in the mornings, and today, like most days, only stirred to a half-sleep because of the warriors around her awakening, stretching and yawning as they did so. The she-cat blinked her eyes open slowly, unable to close them for a nap again as the cold leaf-bare sun seemed to strike through any cracks in the shadows of the dens, even if it was covered by clouds. It was almost worst than green-leaf in her opinion. Well prey isn't going to catch itself! The pale yellow she-cat chimed to herself as she arose rather haphazardly and quickly from her nest, shaking out her pelt of frost upon exiting the warriors den. He yellow eyes scanned the camp with excitement as she saw the whole clan come alive once again to carry on with business as usual. Only two moons ago had she been named a warrior, and leaf-bare was the most crucial time to prove herself as a warrior - a self-sacrificing, mentally tough warrior. Bumblespots knew every cat in the clan would watch her father treat her like a kit throughout her apprenticeship and transitioning into warrior-hood, but she was eager to break free of that, and take a initiative to prove herself that she can make it in this wild on her own. One of her personal motivators was Wildstrike. if any she-cat gave off the energy that she could take a group of the twoleg's hounds single pawed, it was Wildstrike. Bumblespots was not mentored by her as an apprentice, but now goes out of her way to try and get on patrols with the warrior whenever she could, and spotting her out in the open this morning seemed like the perfect opportunity. "Wildstrike!" Bumblespots called before trotting over happily to her. "Did you sleep well? It's the first day of leaf-bare, exciting isn't it? The frost is cold, but very pretty, no?"

wildstrike in camp ; lemonshortbread [bumblespots] wildstrike stopped in her tracks as soon as she heard the young warrior call out to her. for a moment, she considered continuing on as if she hadn't heard her. she would have much preferred to head off alone. sighing to herself, she turned to see bumblespots trotting up to her enthusiastically. she didn't hold any malice toward the she-cat; if anything, she was impressed by her drive. she knew how hawkswoop watched her like a nervous queen watching her kits roughhouse instead of like the proud father of a capable warrior. she'd assumed she had some sort of chip on her shoulder. always volunteering to join patrols and hunting parties; if she kept up that energy, wildstrike thought, she'd grow into a spectacular warrior. though sometimes it felt more like bumblespots was just trying to be on her tail whenever she got the opening. the she-cat had only been a warrior for two moons, but wildstrike could swear she'd been on all but four of her patrols since.
wildstrike sat down for a moment to let bumblespots catch up, curling her fluffy tail around her paws. "good morning, bumblespots. it is sorta cold this morning, wasn't expecting the frost at all. made for a rough time getting up, to be quite honest," she meowed. she glanced at the grass, dead and frosted over. she hadn't really thought about if it was pretty before. all she knew was that it was cold and it was starting to make it hard to feel the pads of her paws. she brought one of her front paws up to try to get the heat back in it. she licked at it a few times, relieving it for a few moments before the frosty ground chilled them once more. evenly and humorless, she asked, "not planning on slacking off today, are you? just 'cause its cold doesn't mean there's not prey to catch or borders to check. if there's time to sleep, there's time to hunt."

Bumblespots - rabbitscar ;;
Bumblespots took note of the older warrior taking a seat, studying her fluffy tail wrapping around her paws, and like a kit miming their warrior parent, she did the same. Her attempt to be regal and put together like the older she-cat was not quite presenting a similar put together manner. Her wide, bright eyes and craning her neck up to look at the older warrior gave away the maturity between the two. Bumblespots did not necessarily idolize Wildstrike, but she needed a role model who was a she-cat and not related to her, someone who would not baby her, and if there was anyone who was going to tell Bumblespots how things were, it was Wildstrike. She wanted brutal honesty, she wanted to be productive and powerful, and getting sweet corrections would not make her that way. "Me? Slack off? Never! Wildstrike, I was born ready to go on the first patrols of the day!" She chimed, rising to her paws in a slight squat from eagerness. "Would you mind if I join a patrol with you actually? I feel like I need to hone my hunting skills for leaf-bare, and you seem really good at hunting!" Bumblespots had never actually hunted during a leaf-bare, as she had become of apprentice age after the last leaf-bare, making this her first as a warrior. She did not remember much from the previous one either, nothing besides most cats seeming to be a little less plump and the weather less than desirable. Hopefully this leaf-bare won't be as harsh as the ones Hawkswoop had mentioned to her in the past, taking the lives of elders or queens even. It made her shiver at the thought.

( Right! So, here are my mentor and apprentice pairings, and the reasons behind them! If you don't like them, then we can always work something else out! )
Lavenderpaw & Fallenfoot (♡ Bun ♡) Fallenfoot has a gentle and encouraging disposition, which would (hopefully) help to lessen Lavenderpaw's insecurities, without pushing her to her limits.
Smokepaw & Hawkswoop (♡ Bun ♡, lemonshortbread) Smokepaw's courage and arrogance would be tested around Hawkswoop, but with the right training, I imagine that Hawkswoop could turn Smokepaw into an admirable warrior.
Quietpaw & Blizzardhawk (ʀᴀɪɴʟᴇᴀғ 🍁) Quietpaw is a detail oriented individual, so Blizzardhawk might help her focus that observance, and turn it into a strength (as Blizzardhawk is calculating, which- in and of itself- requires some degree of perseptiveness). There's also the hope that her bravery might rub off on her.
Thrushpaw & Wildstrike (lemonshortbread, rabbitscar) Wildstrike may be uninterested, but she is a senior warrior, who (I imagine) has plenty of experience to pass onto an apprentice. Her stoic nature might help to balance some of Thrushpaw's playfulness, and keep him grounded (pride is a fine thing to have, so long as you don't have too much of it).
Windpaw & Stonebelly (ʀᴀɪɴʟᴇᴀғ 🍁) It's hustling time, baby! Get that bread! We're on that grind, every day, all day!

( Let it be known that Fallenfoot gives off major Winnie the Pooh vibes. )Fallenfoot, accompanied by Beetlestep (rabbitscar ) The mouse ran round and round his paws, and try as he might, he just couldn't catch it. He swiped left and right, but each time, it escaped his claws with a devious look in it's beady, black gaze.
'Oh, come on, you!' he meowed in frustration, and surprisingly, the little rodent seemed to understand him. It stopped in it's tracks, and as he looked down at it, it looked up at him. Then, with a flying leap, it landed on his head.
He woke with a snort.
"Hm—?"
Prying open a sleepy green eye, Fallenfoot was surprised to find that the mouse in his dream was actually the foot of his clanmate, Beetlestep. True to his name, he was stepping on his head, which—while he couldn't say he expected—he didn't seem to mind, because he still chirped up at him with his usual, friendly warmth.
"Oh...! Good morning, Beetlestep," he exclaimed. "Yes, I suppose I'm up now... and thank goodness for that...! I was having the most frustrating dream, you see..."
Slipping out from beneath his paw, the big tom sat up as he opened his jaws to yawn. Even as his teeth gleamed to the dim light of the den, there was nothing particularly intimidating about him. After all, he was quite... soft and round, and very much unlike his brother, Stonebelly, who seemed to start his days in a bad mood, and end them in an even worse one.
Speaking of which, if he noticed his brother, he didn't let onto it (which was probably for the better, as he likely would have gone deaf if he listened to each of his tantrums).
"There was a mouse," he rambled as his eyes began to droop, "and no matter what I did, it kept evading me—taunting me, even—and then—oh, well I suppose it was you that I felt, but it jumped on my head...! Can you imagine that...? A mouse... jumping on your head..."
Ah—he was putting himself to sleep again.

Ah... So that's what this is about.
Turning her head, the leader fell silent as she considered Hawkswoop's words. It did cross her mind that he might be—what was the phrase...? Making a mountain out of a mole hill? It wouldn't be the first time he'd done so, but then again, the mention of Bumblespots did lessen her suspicions. Hawkswoop might have been paranoid at times—and not without good reason, she would admit—but his daughter was not.
Sometimes, she wondered why that was. How could a father have... crumbled so completely, while his daughter remained relatively unchanged? She would likely never know, and that—she thought—was a good thing.
Blinking, Hornetstar turned her eyes onto the vole once again, half-eaten now, and even less appetizing than before. Her tail twitched thoughtfully as she mulled over her response, and eventually, she turned her gaze back onto the massive tom before her. Despite their difference in size, she did not hesitate to narrow her eyes imposingly as she spoke. "I see... You will let me come with you, then."
Sitting up, she lifted a paw to rasp her tongue across it, warming her pads and waking up her stiff muscles. She drew it across her tattered ears, before lowering it to the ground, and gazing down her nose at him again. "You come to me with your concerns often, Hawkswoop," she mused. "So, I would like to see them and judge them for myself..."
And let us be done with this.
"Do you understand?"

( I hope your knee heels quickly, Rain! That sucks! QAQ Take your time responding! Focus on getting better, before everything else. <3
lemonshortbread Hm... Well, at the moment, I'm trying to keep all plots relatively small or individualistic. That way, the role-play isn't centered around one thing in particular, and people don't have to mold their characters to fit a plot that they didn't necessarily join the role-play to partake in. Does that make sense? So, they can encounter rogues, but I'd rather it not develop into anything that would steer the focus of the role-play as a whole onto the rogues. It can be a contained event, so to say- Hawkswoop's event. Would that be alright with you?
We could work that into something interesting too, I think. If they run into rogues, in one way, Hawkswoop's concerns are valid, but if they only run into them once or twice, it might not seem valid to his clanmates, or to Hornetstar, for that matter. Of course, that probably doesn't matter much to Hawkswoop, because it only happened "once or twice" before, and it eventually lead to the death of his mate. So, you'd have a bit of a conundrum on your hands. )

Hawkswoop - ᴏᴡʟ ;;
Hawkswoop's ear twitched in surprise at hearing Hornetstar's interest in his mission of sorts to the border. However, he, of all cats, should not be surprised by her desire to accompany him - not many other warriors seemed so keen on reporting what could be of interest to clan security such as himself. Hawkswoop would push his daughter to do the same, to normalize relaying information of potential importance often, but he found that Bumblespots hardly did the same. One would imagine that, especially as a new warrior, the world was large and dangerous, and keeping the clan up to date was of the utmost importance. However, Hawkswoop noticed Bumblespots became annoyed at what she called his "paranoid antics" when he pried. Hawkswoop narrowed his eyes at the thought of his kit's complacency, Bumblespots's naive nature, and Hornetstar's condescending, exasperated tone warranted the same tense reaction. Why can't they see? Why don't they understand? He snarled in his mind, feeling his jaw clench, but not uttering a word other than, "As you wish, Hornetstar." before rising slowly to his paws, and turning around stiffly to face the exit to the camp, only turning his head slightly over his should to see if the she-cat was also preparing to leave. Hornetstar was one of the only cats who Hawkswoop discussed his findings with or a patrol's findings with because he figured if anyone was to stay in formed, it ought to be the clan's leader. It seemed though, since the last leaf-bare and Sunspot's death, she treated him differently. Hawkswoop used to brush it off, but now, it's grown more obvious to him at least, what she seemed to think of him - an anxious, poor old loon. If it were not for myself reporting to Hornestar, then who, Sunspots?

Post by ᴏᴡʟ on Dec 8, 2020 21:15:44 GMT -5
The atmosphere between them had changed. Hornetstar noticed this immediately, but it wasn't as if this wasn't what she had intended to happen. Why was that, though? What did she want from this situation? What did she want from Hawkswoop?
Closure? For who?
She wondered this as she stared at the hard line of his back.
Certainly, she wanted what was best for him. He was a warrior under her leadership, just as Sunspots had been. It wasn't as if she had forgotten her—she couldn't, even if she wanted to—but it felt as if Hawkswoop was leaving them somehow—like he was headed to someplace dark and cold, where the warmth of their clan just couldn't reach him... and how could she fix that? How could she beckon him back?
You can't.
She heard that voice often. It had whispered to her incessantly when she first became deputy—when she was still Hornetwhisker. Who had supported her then, when she was still so small and unimportant? Who supported her now?
'As you wish, Hornetstar.'
Ah...
Hadn't there been a time when they were both so small and unimportant?
Dipping her head, the she-cat rose to her paws. Her eyes traveled to the warrior's den as she did so, where her sister, Fallowsplash, was surely sleeping. They lingered there momentarily, before travelling back to Hawkswoop.
"Lead the way."
