About Twelve dogs and their human partners have been chosen to join in on an all-expenses-paid adventure around the world. Split into two teams, they will compete for a prize of $500,000 U.S. dollars, plus an additional $250,000 to the winner's choice of charity.
The competitions will take place over ten weeks, one competition a week, each in a different location around the world. There will also be two weeks of orientation before the first competition, where dogs and their partners will train and prepare for the competitions to come.
The adventure begins in California, where all twelve competitors will undergo two weeks of basic training, pampering, and friendly socializing, to learn skills that may prove useful over the following ten weeks of challenges, and to build relationships with the people who could be your packmates for the next three months. Each challenge will test your skills and the skills of your dog, and prove to the world the strength of the bond between you and your best friend.
Do you think you have what it takes? Are you ready to become one of The Pack?Rules OOC:
1. Forum Rules apply, of course. This probably doesn't even need to be a rule, but there ya go. xD
2. Activity. You don't have to be on every day, I know how busy life can be, but given that this whole role-play is being centered around a GROUP competition, please try to be on at least three times a week. If you can't, please just give me a heads up. I don't need an explanation, just a quick "Hey, I'll be away/poofy the next however many days" will do, just so I know and can plan competitions and challenges accordingly.
3. Literacy. I prefer quality over quantity with my role-plays. So long as your posts have enough for everyone to reply to (we'll say a minimum of 3-5 well written sentences), they're fine. Now, that's not to say you can't write long posts if you want to. If you've got the muse, write away! There is no limit on how much you can write. ^^
4. Characters. Each person gets two human characters, no more no less (exceptions can be made if you don't think you can handle two, just talk to me if so), and each human character gets one dog. I don't care if your characters are both guys or both girls or if you want one of each. Let's just try not to have every character be one gender or the other. No age limit for characters, but they must be at least 21. As for the dogs, you can use any breed you want, mutt, mix, or purebred. All I ask is that you be realistic with them. No 100 pound Chihuahuas, or blue coated Labrador retrievers (although you can have poodles or doodles who have colored hair ;D). Each dog needs to be at least two years old, and probably no older than 10, as there will be several physically taxing competitions and dog safety (even in role-play) is a top priority. ^^
5. I will be setting aside a day or two every week for the competition of the week. These days will be determined after everyone has joined, and will be based on which days everyone has the most time to be online. If someone has to miss one of these days, please let me know beforehand so I can postpone the challenge. These challenges will all work better if we're all here, working as a team. On the days when there is no challenge, you are all free to role-play pretty much whatever. You can make your characters and their dogs hang out with friends, go on tours around whatever city they're in at any time, whatever floats your boat. This is basically filler time where you can get to know your characters and the other RPers' characters.
6. Keep things fair. I know everyone wants to believe their dog is superdog, and maybe sometimes they are, but no canine is perfect. Every dog has their strengths and weaknesses, just like humans. There will be some challenges your dogs will excel at, and some where they may struggle a bit. There will be a chance for everyone to shine, but until that moment comes, just remember that there are others who want that moment too. And be realistic about this! A lot of dogs are very easily distracted, especially in new places. And certain breeds tend to lean toward distraction easier than others. If you don't know a lot about your chosen breed(s), do some research. Another thing to think about is the dog's age. Younger dogs may have more energy, stamina, speed, etc., but the older dogs will probably have more calm and focus. Both are advantages that will have their place among the challenges. And that all goes the same for the people!
7. And finally, have fun! That's what we're really here for, right? ;D
Competition Rules:
1. Dog safety is our #1 priority. If anyone is found doing something that compromises the safety of their dog, or the other dogs in the packs, you will be eliminated from the competition.
2. Each dog will be given a GPS tracking collar for the duration of the competition. These are not to be removed at any time for any reason.
3. All dogs must remain leashed while competing, unless told otherwise by your host and the dog safety team. While participating in pack events, dogs should be in their pack color (blue or green), which will be provided for you once your pack has been determined.
4. When using public transportation, humans and dogs must be seatbelted in whenever possible. Dogs under 15 pounds will travel in carriers. When doing water travel, dogs and humans must wear lifejackets.
5. Any preparation for the competitions must be done with the help of the dog safety team. Participants may not look for outside help to gain an advantage in the competition.
6. Have fun!Joining I'm going to keep this nice and easy. Now, if you want to go all out on your joining form, all the power to ya. If not, you can just keep it short and sweet.
Humans:Name Age . Gender . Dog's Name From… [place of origin] Short or long physical description, and/or you can just use a face claim.

So you know that every competitor has a point in the first episode where they tell the viewers a little about themselves, why they're here, what they hope to accomplish, why they're determined to win… that sort of thing. Gear your bio to sound like one of those. If you're confused by what I mean by that, check out my character bios below for a reference. ;D] Dogs:

The Competition There will be a total of ten competitions, spread out over ten weeks, each one in a new location around the world. Each competition will then be divided into three challenges. The first challenge is The Leader of the Pack Challenge. One team from each pack will be chosen by their packmates to compete. The winner of this challenge wins their pack the right to choose between two different Pack Challenges, and they will also get a head start in completing their chosen challenge.
The pack that wins their Pack Challenge and crosses the designated finish line first will be safe to continue on to the next round. Every member of the pack, human and dog, needs to cross the finish line before they can claim the win. The winning pack will not only be safe from facing the Elimination Challenge, they will also be rewarded with an all-inclusive mini adventure with their dogs.
The losing pack will be the only pack competing in the third challenge: the Elimination Challenge. The losing pack must compete against each other, solving puzzles and racing to the finish line. The last team to cross the finish line will have to sit out of the next competition, leaving their pack a team down. If you lose three Elimination Challenges, you will be disqualified from the competition and sent home.
All the challenges are designed to test the strength of your bond with your dog, and also to build a bond between you and your packmates. Teamwork is key, even in the Elimination Challenges. Where one is weak, another is strong. It is up to you as a pack to know where each team shines.

Characters
Dominic, "Nico" Fletcher 25 . Male . Valor From… Livengood, Alaska, USA confident . amiable . insightful . capable . genuine Brief character bio: "I'm Nico, and this is Valor. He is my lead sled dog, and... my very best friend. Aren't ya, pal? I have been a musher pretty much all my life. It's kind of a tradition in my family. Most everyone in my tribe has a team of dogs. The first mode of transportation I ever used was a dog sled, and there's really nowhere else I feel most at home than I do on a sled, racing through the snow behind my team. I've competed in several dog sled races, and I couldn't ask for a better team of dogs. With Valor leading the way, we've never not gotten to where we're going. Valor and I do everything together, not just mushing. As my lead dog, he has a level of intelligence that's higher than the rest of the team. He doesn't just know how to follow commands and run ahead of the rest. He has to think for himself. I can't tell you how many times he's saved my ass out in the Alaskan wilderness we call home. Those smarts of his make him great at... pretty much everything. But we've never done anything like this before." (wip)
