so far, i don't know why shadowsight has done nothing but sit on his paws and sulk when he CAN astral project and do something other than sitting on his paws! like going back where bramblestar was and trying to bring him back. or finding out why he can't come back. attempting to remove the barrier blocking starclan again To be fair, the only reason Shadowsight was able to do everything he did in the last book at all was because he nearly died and was unconscious for most of it. And after consuming deathberries once, it makes sense he wouldn't want to risk it, unless it turns out later on that he really just could've gone to the spirit realm at will. Plus he can't exactly do much considering Mothwing isn't letting him do jack shit and nobody outside a few seems to trust him.

Actually, the scene with the Sisters and the fox traps reminds me of that time Ashfur and Hawkfrost conspired to try and get Firestar killed via fox trap. It’s interesting that the wire fox traps were only brought back after Ashfur was confirmed as the imposter.

This is some serious creep and scare factor here. I'm excited to draw/animate this scene!! Like many have said, this is on par with the dog scene and such. Wow. Just wow. Also seems like Spire is indeed involved with Ash... hmm

Alright, Squirrel is already dropping from like to neutral. All she seems to care about is Bramble and not all of the other suffering ghosts! This is very saddening.

I feel the need to clarify that Squirrelflight wasn’t seeing the ghosts. None of the Clan cats were, only the Sisters, Tree, and Rootspring saw them. The most the clan cats got were vague lines from about something being there wanting to hurt them, and the Sisters looking terrified. The Clan cats were essentially confused and nervous and weren’t seeing the ghosts of the dead.

It's got 328 pages of main story.

I only know bits and pieces about TBC, but the fact that Squirrelflight is concerned about Bramblestar shouldn't be something to be pissed off about. Yes, I get their relationship is abusive, and I agree Squirrelflight should've showed concern for her Clanmates, but it's logical that she'd worry about not only the main cat who has disappeared, but her mate as well.

Chapter 18: Shadowsight
Shadowsight is in Ashfur's prison, and Ashfur is in a deep sleep, and just finished healing Ashfur's wounds from Lionblaze. He thinks that if it were up to him, he wouldn't be here, but he knows that if his father trusts him, then he must do it. He has one eye on Lizardtail and Mallownose, who are on guard, and an eye on Ashfur, who is still sound asleep, and knows that as much as he dislikes Ashfur, no cat can harm him. Shadowsight thinks that since Lionblaze's attack, he knows that any warrior might consider just finishing the job. He hears mews in the clearing outside, hearing the voices of Alderheart, Hawkwing, Frecklewish, and Tigerstar, their voices low. Mallownose and Lizardtail step aside from the entrance of the den, and Tigerstar pads in. Tigerstar asks how long Ashfur has been asleep. Shadowsight frowns and says all morning, and wonders why Tigerstar looks so worried. Alderheart pads past them and sniffs warily at Ashfur's pelt. Shadowsight asks what's wrong, and Tigerstar explains what happened with the ghost cats the previous night, and how the spirits that appeared didn't appear to be friendly. Frecklewish adds that Ashfur was among them, but he wasn't suffering like the other spirits were. Shadowsight objects that he was with Ashfur all night. Tigerstar asks if Ashfur was sleeping, and Shadowsight says he was. Tigerstar leans closer and asks if it was like how he's sleeping now. Shadowsight says yes. Shadowsight looks to Ashfur again, and notices a peculiar stiffness to Bramblestar's body, but then he realizes; sleeping cats still move. Ashfur is laying still, and resembles what Bramblestar's corpse looks like when Shadowsight first found out he could leave the body at will. Tigerstar darts forward, demanding Ashfur to wake up, hooking his scruff with his claws and shaking him. Ashfur blinks open his eyes, stiffening as he sees Tigerstar, and then lets himself go limp, slumping to the ground as Tigerstar drops him. Tigerstar snarls at him to get up. Hawkwing says they've come to ask him a few questions. Ashfur gets up, curls his lip, and says "You can ask me anything you like. I don't have to answer."
Tigerstar flexes his claws and asks if he really believes that, and Shadowsight hopes that Ashfur will just tell them what they need to know. Frecklewish asks if he's left the ShadowClan camp. Ashfur says that he couldn't have, gesturing to Lizardtail and Mallownose. Tigerstar growls that they're not stupid, and they know he can leave Bramblestar's body at will. Ashfur innocently says that if he could, why would he stay as a prisoner. Tigerstar thrusts his muzzle towards Ashfur and says that Rootspring and the Sisters saw him last night with the other spirits. Ashfur growls, asking if he really believes them. Hawkwing flattens his ears and says Rootspring wouldn't lie. Ashfur tips his lead to one side, and says that the Sisters are his kin, and might have put Rootspring up to it. Hawkwing snarls that Rootspring is a loyal SkyClan warrior. Tigerstar asks why the Sisters would lie to them. Ashfur says that the Clans drove them from their land. Frecklewish hisses that they hold no grudge about it. Ashfur presses, saying that they killed Moonlight. Hawkwing snaps that Moonlight was the one who told them to help, and Ashfur calmly asks if it was Rootspring who said it. Hawkwing flicks his tail ominously and says he believes Rootspring. Ashfur eyes him, and asks if anyone else saw Moonlight. Frecklewish hisses that the Sisters saw her. Amusement twitches in Ashfur's whiskers, and he says
Ashfur: "Of course they did! Have you seen any of these spirits they claim to have seen? Have any of the medicine cats seen?" Frecklewish: "We don't have the same powers as the Sisters" Ashfur: "So you trust a group of cats you hardly know when they say they can see something the Clans can't? What do you even know about them except that you stole their land? What do you know about their kin? Tree isn't a real warrior, is he? He threatens to leave the Clans at the first sign of trouble. And now his son is making up stories about ghosts, stories that set one Clan against another and send you running to outsiders for help. Who fetched the Sisters back? A warrior with their blood running through his pelt. And what do they do when they get here? Stir all of you up with stories of spirits no other warrior can see. Do you really believe Rootspring's on your side? Do you?"
Hawkwing then leaps at Ashfur, raking his claws across Ashfur's muzzle. He says "How dare you suggest that my kin can't be trusted!", and he lashes out against him again, clawing his cheek. "Rootspring has earned his place as a SkyClan warrior!" Ashfur backs away, but shows no fear in his eyes, and Shadowsight wonders why Ashfur seems to be insisting on provoking every warrior who sees him. Ashfur tells Hawkwing "Perhaps Violetshine should have chosen a better mate. Instead of a stray the Clans took in. At least then you'd be able to trust your own flesh and blood."
Hawkwing flies into a rage and lunges at Ashfur. Curling his claws into Ashfur's fur, he lifts him up, and flings him against the hollow tree (yes, Hawkwing goddamn picks up a cat and flings it against the wall). Ashfur thumps against the bark and slithers to the ground, as Hawkwing prepares to attack him again. Shadowsight pleads with Hawkwing to not hurt Ashfur. He turns to Tigerstar, hoping he would stop Hawkwing, but Tigerstar's face is angry, and he begins stalking towards Ashfur. Shadowsight pleads for someone to help Ashfur, but Alderheart, Frecklewish, Mallownose, and Lizardtail don't do anything, and Ashfur isn't going to defend himself. Tigerstar sinks his teeth into Ashfur's neck. Ashfur yowls in pain, writhing, and Shadowsight scents blood. Tigerstar flings Ashfur away and lashes out at him, striking his cheek. Ashfur staggers into the path of Hawkwing, who swipes at his other cheek. Tigerstar yowls for him to tell them if he's left Bramblestar's body, raking his claws across Ashfur's ears. Ashfur asks them if this is the code they follow, backing away into Hawkwing who gets another blow on Ashfur's head. Tigerstar demands to know what he's been doing out of Bramblestar's body. Ashfur scornfully says that claws can't help them now. Tigerstar rakes his claws across Ashfur's muzzle, and Ashfur slumps down. Tigerstar is about to strike Ashfur again until Shadowsight pleads for him to stop. Tigerstar grows still, and so does Hawkwing. Shadowsight races to Ashfur and says he needs herbs, and reminds Tigerstar that he ordered him to heal Ashfur. Tigerstar says nothing, and Shadowsight insists he's a medicine cat, and he heals people, no matter what Tigerstar says. Tigerstar admits Shadowsight is right, and flicks his tail for Hawkwing, Frecklewish, and Alderheart to follow him.
As Shadowsight inspects Ashfur, he sees that one of his ears has been ripped, and chunks of missing fur ooze out blood, but Ashfur is alive. Ashfur's eyes flicker open, and he stares at Shadowsight helplessly, saying "I told you, they're going to kill me. If Tigerstar can't control himself, how can he control his Clan? If your father doesn't kill me, some other cat will...and you'll never get Bramblestar back. But we both know that killing this body won't make a difference. I can't be stopped, no matter whether this body lives or dies." Shadowsight refuses to listen to him, and knows if he had refused to listen to him from the start, none of this would have happened. He knows that Tigerstar hates Ashfur, and wonders what he might do next, and worries what will happen if they kill Bramblestar's body and Ashfur lives on.
Ashfur whispers to Shadowsight "Only you can keep Bramblestar alive now", and although Shadowsight wants to ignore him, he doesn't know how he can when Ashfur may be right.

Well, Hawkwing is a pretty strong cat to lift another cat up like that. Also, all that provoking certainly didn't help. I hope Shadowsight does ignore him, but who knows if he'll be able to.

I'm reading the next chapter here, and Nectarsong's mate is revealed. It's Dewspring. Though I'm fully expecting people to complain about this as Dewspring and Nectarsong are first cousins. Regardless, they seem like a genuinely happy couple and they're happily watching Beekit and Beetlekit. Beekit is a white-and-tabby she-cat, and Beetlekit has a short tail, and I couldn't find a pelt colour for him. Might be revealed later in the book though.

I think the reason people are annoyed - or at least why I am - is that Squirrelflight has been putting Bramblestar above everyone else for the whole arc. Many cats have died and even more have lost family because she’s not willing to let Bramblestar go for the greater good, and there are probably more to come. Even some of his other family are willing to let him go in order to try bringing peace, but Squirrelflight refuses to. This scene is just a clear showing of that.

I heard about Lionblaze being willing to kill Bramblestar for the greater good, but Squirrelflight rejected it. I feel like she shouldn't prioritize him over her other Clanmates, even if he's her mate, now that I think about it. If the most logical act is to kill him for the greater good, then that's what they should do.
