Oh my gosh, Lionblaze. I did not expect him to just attack Ashfur. I know they don't like one another, but wow. Squirrelflight really should've picked someone else.

Lionblaze ooh boy that was a bad choice Squirrel... I wonder if he'll bring up the fire scene and the training when he was Ashfur's apprentice.

I love Shadowsight. Please don't force him to be a warrior. Let him pick between if he needs.

Again, poor Shadowsight. Although I do agree with Mothwing and I really don't blame Lionblaze here, but Squirrelflight really should've picked someone else, probably.
And though I still don't like the Sisters, I do find their appearance in this book to at least be interesting, and I don't blame Sunrise at all for her resentment. I'm also glad we got to find out what finally happened to Ice.
Sunrise and Sunshine, though? They couldn't have come up with a different name? Like Dawn, maybe?
But anyway, I also just love how Rootspring and Bristlefrost are actually talking and are at least trying to be practical about their feelings. It's also interesting to see Needleclaw contrast even more with her brother. That comparison to Ashfur though, yikes.

another bit of the chapter, this is probably my favorite part of the book so far Lionblaze snarls at Ashfur that he's a coward. He tried to kill him, Jayfeather, and Hollyleaf when they were too young to defend themselves and now he's murdering Bramblestar, and won't even fight fairly. Ashfur glares at him with nothing but pure hate in his eyes, and says that Lionblaze will never get Bramblestar back, and he's gone for good. Lionblaze screams at Ashfur to give Bramblestar back his body. Ashfur catches Shadowsight's eye, and says maliciously that he didn't murder him alone. Lionblaze screams at him and hurls himself at Ashfur, hooking his claws onto Ashfur, dragging Ashfur onto his spine and raking his claws across Ashfur's belly. Ashfur swings out a defensive paw strike, but Lionblaze knocks it away with a hiss and strikes Ashfur's cheek. Ashfur squirms away and presses against the wall of the hollow tree, but Lionblaze keeps lashing out, attacking Ashfur relentlessly, and Shadowsight suddenly scents blood.
Shadowsight yowls for Lionblaze to stop, racing towards him, ducking beneath an attack that was aimed at Ashfur's muzzle. Lionblaze stops himself so he doesn't hit Shadowsight, but Ashfur kicks out his hind legs and hits Lionblaze in the belly. However, Lionblaze doesn't budge, almost like it didn't affect him, and only screams at Ashfur that he's going to kill him and raises his paw to assault Ashfur again. Shadowsight yowls no, and Lionblaze freezes, asking Shadowsight why he's defending him. Shadowsight says he can't kill Bramblestar's body, and they may never get him back. Lionblaze hisses that killing Ashfur might be the chance Bramblestar needs. Shadowsight says that Ashfur is their best lead to get StarClan back, and Lionblaze says they don't know that. Shadowsight says he's the only hope they have right now. Shadowsight knows no cat will lift a paw to save Ashfur. ShadowClan's heard Lionblaze's screams of anger and is watching intently, but not doing anything. Shadowsight says that if Lionblaze kills Ashfur now, they may lose Bramblestar for good. Lionblaze settles down. He isn't happy about it, and tells Shadowsight that he can't defend Ashfur forever, exiting the den. Ashfur shakes out his blood-covered pelt, and thanks Shadowsight for saving him, and it actually appears genuine (Shadowsight doesn't see any form of hate or malice from Ashfur here, so I can only assume Ashfur means it). Shadowsight snaps that he saved Bramblestar, not Ashfur, and says that he isn't going to look after him anymore. Ashfur can fix his own wounds.

Talking to Snow, she says "The Clans love making rules, let them if they must. You will not be with them long."

Crack theory but maybe Spiresight is subbing in for Ashfur. Ashfur can leave the body at will. The impostor's reaction to Shadowsight saving him is genuine, he is pleased to see him, etc.

Maybe he could be flipping in and out with Spire at his will or something?

Rest of the chapter: Lionblaze, Thriftear, and Shadowsight are in Tigerstar's den. Tigerstar is furious at Lionblaze, asking what he was thinking. As soon as Tigerstar heard about Lionblaze attacking Ashfur, he immediately replaced Lionblaze and Thriftear with ShadowClan warriors. Tigerstar hisses that Ashfur is in ShadowClan's care, and if he kills him, then the other Clans will blame ShadowClan. Lionblaze doesn't answer, and he's still trembling with rage after his encounter with Ashfur. Tigerstar asks Thriftear why she didn't stop him. Lionblaze answers that it isn't Thriftear's fault. Tigerstar ignores him, and asks why Thriftear didn't call for help. Thriftear is ashamed, and apologizes, but Shadowsight doesn't think Thriftear could have stood up to her Clan deputy.
Lionblaze hisses through gritted teeth that Ashfur deserves to die. Tigerstar growls that maybe he does, but what he or Lionblaze thinks is irrelevant. The Clans think he's their best chance to get StarClan back and for now, they want him alive, and asks Lionblaze if he wants another battle between the Clans. Lionblaze holds Tigerstar's gaze and says no, and he apologizes, saying he lost control. Tigerstar declares "You're a deputy now. Your Clan looks up to you. If you can't control yourself, why should they? Go home, and tell Squirrelflight to be more careful who she sends to guard Ashfur next time." Tigerstar's words clearly stung Lionblaze, and he dips his head respectfully, and says it won't happen again. Thriftear follows Lionblaze, but quickly says she's really sorry before leaving the den. Shadowsight follows them, but Tigerstar beckons him back, and admits he's proud of Shadowsight. Shadowsight is surprised, and Tigerstar says he was brave to step in. Shadowsight drops his gaze and says they need Ashfur alive. Tigerstar says he was the only cat to defend him. Shadowsight pleads with him, asking to stop taking care of Ashfur and to actually help his Clan. Tigerstar declines, saying he is helping him. Tigerstar asks Shadowsight to be the one to bring him food, clean out his bedding, and clean injuries. He says that he can only trust Shadowsight with this task, and Shadowsight will be the only one able to enter Ashfur's prison now. Shadowsight doesn't understand how this is a reward at all, but Tigerstar insists Shadowsight go see Ashfur, and to treat his wounds.
Shadowsight goes to the medicine den, dragging his tail on the ground. He grunts to Mothwing that he needs herbs for Ashfur. Mothwing asks if he's badly hurt, and Shadowsight says he doesn't know yet. Mothwing remarks that he'll have "quite a few claw marks if he was fighting with Lionblaze". Shadowsight grunts that it wasn't much of a fight, Lionblaze was the one who attacked Ashfur. Mothwing glances at him, saying he sounds sorry for Ashfur. Shadowsight gets angry and says he isn't. He's fuming too much to explain to her that he only cares because he knows they need Ashfur alive. He takes the herbs she gives him and stalks to the prison. Ashfur blinks in surprise as Shadowsight enters, reminding him that he said he wasn't coming back. Shadowsight drops the herbs and glares at him coldly. Ashfur asks if Tigerstar sent him in to help him, and Shadowsight, still fuming, says Tigerstar told him to take care of him. A few old wounds have reopened, and he has a deep wound on his shoulder, but Shadowsight realizes Lionblaze must have been trying to hold back, as all the other wounds are relatively light. Shadowsight spits herb pulp onto Ashfur's wounds.
Ashfur winces in pain and says "Thanks, you saved my life". and Shadowsight catches his eye, and sees gratitude in them. He decides to ignore it. Ashfur mews quietly that they're going to kill him. Shadowsight hears certainty in Ashfur's voice, and knows he's only seen the edge of Lionblaze's fury, and none of his Clanmates were eager to intervene to stop Lionblaze. Shadowsight thinks that if they decide to kill Ashfur, he wouldn't be able to stop them. Ashfur murmurs that if he dies, they'll never get Bramblestar back, and they'll never see their "precious little StarClan again". Shadowsight feels his blood run cold as Ashfur whispers in his ear, his gaze as hypnotic as a snake's: "You have to get me out of here".

And here we go. Ashfur is starting to manipulate Shadowsight. This reminds me of when Sol manipulated Lionblaze to free him in Sunrise. I hope he doesn't do it, but I don't see any other way for him to just take Squirrelflight like we know he's going to do.

Chapter 15: Rootspring
He and Bristlefrost are racing up a slope, having fun together. Rootspring thinks to himself that both of them wanted to make the most of their time away from the Clans. Rootspring wins their race, and as Bristlefrost catches up, he huffs that Squirrelflight will be pleased that they found the Sisters. Bristlefrosts suggests taking them directly to ThunderClan territory. Rootspring says that the leaders agreed that the Sisters will stay on SkyClan territory, and they should stick to that. As Needleclaw catches up to them, Bristlefrost argues that Squirrelflight is the one who wanted to find them, and she's arguably the best representative for the Clans. Needleclaw stares at Bristlefrost, and says that doing that would be breaking every rule they put in place for the Sisters. Needleclaw says that ThunderClan is already a mess as it is and they don't need to potentially make the situation worse than it already is. Needleclaw scowls at Rootspring and tells him to tell Bristlefrost that she's talking nonsense. Rootspring avoids both their gazes and says that they shouldn't go agains the choices of the clans, and Bristlefrost can just go get Squirrelflight as they arrive. Bristlefrost agrees, and goes to check on the others. Needleclaw narrows her eyes and asks if he sees now why she wants him to make a "friend" in his own Clan, and Bristlefrost very obviously values ThunderClan over breaking rules. Rootspring feels shame, wondering if he would ever leave SkyClan to be with Bristlefrost. Before he can respond, they hear the yowl of a cat who sounds in pain.
As they bolt back to the Sisters, they explain that Moon had something grab her paw, and when she tried to escape, something else grabbed her other paw. Snow pulls away the weeds, and Rootspring sees a thin silver vine coiled around Moon's two paws, pressing tighter as she struggles. Rootspring asks Snow and Tempest to fan out the Sisters to avoid more cats getting trapped. As Rootspring inspects the vine, he realizes that whatever it is, it's underground. Sunrise approaches and says that since Rootspring is a tom, he can figure out what's wrong. Rootspring realizes she means "talking" to the earth like Leaf had. As he remembers Leaf's technique, he waits and waits and closes his eyes, wondering what he's supposed to be seeing. He presses down to the earth more, and feels his head being tugged to the left, as though "gentle paws" were guiding him. When he opens his eyes again, he's staring at a mound of earth. He slithers forward and claws away the mound, revealing a block of wood. He looks at Sunrise, and explains that there's a block of wood ensnared by roots. Sunrise seems proud of him, and says they should dig it up. Rootspring, Bristlefrost, and Sunrise begin to unearth it, and the vine coils away from Moon as they do. Snow asks if Moon is okay, and she is, only a little bruised. Bristlefrost asks how Rootspring knew what they were looking at. Rootspring says he didn't "see" it, but he could "feel" it, thinking that it was just like Leaf. Sunrise purrs, and says "All our toms have a connection to the earth, there's no reason why Tree's kit should be any different". It's apparent that Sunrise is being very kind and friendly to Rootspring and Needleclaw, which I think is nice.
They reach the high moor by sunset, and they spot the lake glittering below. He tells Bristlefrost that Squirrelflight will want to know they've arrived, and he wonders if Bristlefrost will miss these days as much as he will. Bristlefrost thanks the Sisters for coming, and races down to ThunderClan territory. As Rootspring watches her, Needleclaw assures him that he'll get over her, and Rootspring wonders if he ever will.

Poor Moon. I'm glad she's alright. Sunrise is also being shown as a good aunt here. So, it seems that Rootspring is able to "talk" to the Earth like the toms who are a part of The Sisters can.

I feel bad for Shadowsight
I feel like he wouldn't be so easily manipulated if the other cats weren't treating Shadowsight almost as bad as Ashfur
Mothwing is REALLY pissing me off
Also, while Lionblaze's actions were stupid, I also think they're understandable. Ashfur tried to kill his grandfather, Ashfur tried to kill Lionblaze and his siblings, and NOW Ashfur has taken over what is essentially his father's body
Squirrelflight, Lionblaze, and Jayfeather would all be justified in wanting to murder him. Lionblaze just has the shortest temper
