I'm glad we are getting more spotlight on family relations and that there is more attention to getting names right and such. Really a step up with the editing team so far. Also I love Leaf. I didn't realize he was that old. I figured he was closer to an apprentice age but forgot he was born in SQ 👀 He's actually younger than Finchpaw and Flamepaw.

Chapter 11: Shadowsight
Shadowsight miserably follows the hunting patrol back to camp, but Lightleap insisted he carry two mice they caught so he can help. Every cat in the patrol had caught something except for him. He notes that Slatefur and Blazefire were more sympathetic, arguing that it was only his second hunting patrol ever. Shadowsight wonders how long it will take Tigerstar to make him a medicine cat again. Shadowsight goes to Ashfur's den, where Cherryfall and Whitewing are on guard, and appear angry that Ashfur is sleeping so peacefully. Cherryfall informs him that Ashfur didn't even wake when Whorlpelt brought him food. Shadowsight begins to wonder if Ashfur is okay, and goes inside. Ashfur is asleep, and Shadowsight touches him, but Bramblestar's body isn't giving off any heat. Shadowsight wonders if Ashfur had chosen Tigerstar to possess over Bramblestar, if he would have been tricked into killing his own father. Ashfur wakes up, and greets Shadowsight, and actually appears pleased that he's there. Ashfur mews that he's late, and he's missed him. Shadowsight says he went hunting. Ashfur looks at him and notes he hasn't brought any herbs. Shadowsight says Ashfur doesn't need healing anymore. Ashfur narrows his eyes and asks if that's why he went hunting, because Shadowsight can't help anyone. Shadowsight asserts that he was helping his Clan. Ashfur says his Clan must be grateful, but he must not have contributed much since Shadowsight knows nothing about being a warrior. Shadowsight says that Puddleshine taught him a bit, but Ashfur rebukes that a warrior should be prepared for anything, and that the last thing a hunting patrol needs is a warrior who yowls every time they hear a noise, which frightens Shadowsight, wondering if Ashfur was spying on him. Ashfur goes on to say that Shadowsight is such a gifted healer, and it's a shame he can't be a medicine cat anymore, and the Clans will never trust him again. Shadowsight yells at him, asking who's fault that is. Ashfur actually looks...guilty here, and says "I only wanted to live. I didn't think about what it would mean for you. I'm sorry you can't be a medicine cat now, but you'll always have have a place in ShadowClan as long as you have Tigerstar to protect you." Shadowsight begins to think that the only reason he's tolerated is because his father is leader. As Shadowsight leaves, Ashfur asks him to come back soon, remarking that he's the only cat he can talk to.
The medicine cat meeting is now, and Mothwing and Puddleshine are heading out to the Moonpool. Tigerstar insisted they take Shadowsight. When they arrive, Jayfeather remarks that they're late. Puddleshine replies the moon is still high. Mothwing and Willowshine exchange a glance, but Willowshine says they should begin. Shadowsight settles down beside Puddleshine and touches his nose to the moonpool, but nothing happens. They wait a long time, but nothing changes. Jayfeather gets up and says they may have to get used to the idea of StarClan being gone for good. Willowshine that it can't be true, as StarClan wouldn't abandon them. Kestrelflight growls that perhaps the Clans abandoned StarClan, and explains that they may have strayed too far from the warrior code to maintain the connection. Mothwing grunts and asks if there's really a difference whether StarClan is with them or not, and if it really changes how they live. Fidgetflake says that it does, and what's the point in being called warriors if they aren't guided by their ancestors. Mothwing snorts that there's still alive cats taking care of one another. Frecklewish says that trying to decide is pointless, but they need to focus on the present, and they need to move forward. She adds that she's been thinking about Ashfur, and if he's the one who severed the connection. Willowshine says it must be him, as his appearance and the disappearance of StarClan is too much of a coincidence, and Frecklewish says he may be the only one who knows how to restore it. Puddleshine says that they may have moved too far away, or something is blocking the connection, and asks Shadowsight again for what exactly he saw in the place of no stars.
Shadowsight explains his endeavor with the deathberries and following Bramblestar's voice, to where he went to the dark forest and found a wall there dividing it from StarClan. Jayfeather snorts that there is of course a wall between the two, but Shadowsight says it was blocking the Moonpool too, and the path between StarClan and themselves. Willowshine asks how he found his way through, but Shadowsight says he didn't; he only untangled Brambledstar. Mothwing says it sounds like nonsense to her, but Jayfeather refutes that everything sounds like nonsense to her. Kestrelflight says he probably imagined the whole thing, which angers Shadowsight. He adds that he saw Ashfur leave Bramblestar's body. Kestrelflight says that they know Bramblestar's corpse is possessed, but Shadowsight says Ashfur can leave it whenever he wants. Jayfeather replies they still don't know if he can do that, and Shadowsight says he saw him do it himself. Alderheart says that perhaps they shouldn't be asking Shadowsight about these matters, which infuriates him. Jayfeather shakes his pelt and says they should at least try and focus on one thing, that being the health of their clanmates. Jayfeather says that Lilyheart had a small case of whitecough, but she recovered quickly, and didn't spread. Kestrelflight chimes in that Emberfoot had whitecough too. Puddleshine adds in that so did Stonewing, but Shadowsight is shocked and hurt that Puddleshine did not inform him of Stonewing, making him realize that even his mentor doesn't trust him. Puddleshine goes on and says that Shadowsight is treating Ashfur's wounds, which Willowshine immediately replies that it's a waste of herbs. Jayfeather says that it's still Bramblestar's body, and Alderheart almost yells that Ashfur should never have been allowed to steal it, making Shadowsight wonder if Alderheart is blaming him.
Fidgetflake is next, and says that Nectarsong has given birth to two healthy kits, named Beekit and Beetlekit. Willowshine says RiverClan has been healthy too, and says that it would be nice to have an extra paw in the den, talking directly Mothwing. Willowshine says that every cat in RiverClan misses her, and asks her to come back. Mothwing says she won't return if Icewing and Harelight aren't allowed back. Willowshine asks what if Mistystar never changes her mind, if Mothwing will stay in ShadowClan forever. Mothwing says coldly that ShadowClan has been kinder to her than RiverClan, and she is loyal to Tigerstar. Kestrelflight agrees with Willowshine about having help being nice. Jayfeather remarks that Shadowsight could help, given that ShadowClan has three medicince cats, but Kestrelflight immediately declines, adding in that he's considering taking on an apprentice. He says that Whistlepaw seems interested in herbs, and has helped take care of Emberfoot, and has the right kind of medicine cat instincts. Shadowsight blurts that StarClan needs to guide him in his choice, but Kestrelfligt says he can at least begin training him. Jayfeather and Willowshine say that waiting a bit may be the best option, but Mothwing disagrees. Puddleshine reminds them that Rowanstar didn't wait for a sign to make him the medicine cat, but Willowshine says the circumstances were different. Mothwing says that surely lives are more important than waiting for StarClan. Alderheart frowns and says the wrong herbs with the wrong cat can be dangerous, as Flipclaw very clearly demonstrated. Kestrelflight says he won't let Whistlepaw teach himself, and ultimately it's his own choice, not theirs. Willowshine brings up that Kestrelflight is the one worried about driving StarClan away, and if he takes an apprentice they don't approve of, it could be bad. Shadowsight zones out, wondering if without StarClan, all they're going to do is bicker, and wonders how they'll ever be able to tell what's right and wrong.

I'm still sad and worried for Shadowsight. Puddleshine didn't even tell him about Stonewing.
Nectarsong's kits are here! Beekit and Beetlekit. The two b's.
Yay, Kestrelflight might be finally getting an apprentice in the form of Whistlepaw. Him getting an apprentice was something I wanted since the beginning of the series when I saw that there were five kits in the allegiances list.

I'm in agreement with Moth, Puddle and Kestrel, even if StarClan comes back, it annoys me that they're so hung up on them that they're also not focusing on the now. Imo medicine cats are more than just a bunch of dead cats guiding them.

Chapter 12: Rootspring
As the group enters the Sisters camp, he sees why he and Tree are so different from SkyClan, noticing how large and broad the Sisters are; a trait he and Tree share. Snow appears to be the leader now, as there's a quote here that says "The white she-cat, to whom the others deferred, called herself Snow", which leads me to believe she's now in charge. Makes sense since she kind of acted like Moonlight's second in command. Sunrise went out of her way to introduce Rootspring and Needleclaw to the other Sisters. There's Furze, Tempest, Flurry, Sparrow, and Hawk. There's a new Sister, named Sunshine, who is pregnant and is cream coloured. Moon and Squirrel are both gray. Rootspring recalls that Sunrise is Tree's littermate. Sunrise then brings them to Snow and she hears them out. However, Snow says that the Clans' troubles are their own affair. Rootspring says she's right, but he thought they might be a bit more understanding of how important the dead are to the living. Snow doesn't seem to care, but Bristlefrost says they lost connection with StarClan. Spotfur asks where the Sisters' ancestors go. Snow shrugs, and says some stick around, some don't. She then turns to Spotfur and says that they should treat her injuries. Spotfur says no, since they'll heal by themselves. Snow dips her head to Spotfur, and asks Rootspring what they want from the Sisters. Rootspring asks them to help find Bramblestar, but Snow says they can't go anywhere, since Sunshine is expecting kits, and it's noted that Sunshine looks close to kitting. Sunshine pops into the conversation and says that the kits won't be born for another half-moon, and she can still travel. Tempest (who appears to be Snow's second in command now), argues that the Clans drove them out even though Moonlight had kits. Furze steps in and says the Clans didn't know, and took them in when they realized what they had done. Moon says that if the Clans hadn't helped, she and her littermates would have died. Rootspring recalls that Moon, Squirrel, and Leaf briefly shared a nest with him and Needleclaw. Furze retorts that if the Clans didn't kill Moonlight, Moon wouldn't have needed their milk. Snow says that Moonlight was killed by a rockfall, not by the Clans. Hawk adds that it killed Leafpool too. Sunrise grunts that perhaps it's good that Bramblestar is gone, reminding them that when she was injured, he refused to have his medicine cats treat her and would have died if Leafpool hadn't gone against his orders, finishing that ThunderClan might be better off with a new leader.
Moon narrows her eyes and says that perhaps they could do an exchange, asking if they have catmint. Snow sniffs and says that if they help, they'll do it out of honor. Furze says she'd like to see SkyClan again. Hawk nods, and says Squirrelflight was as brave as a Sister, and she would like to pay her respects to her. Rootspring is happy they're forming an agreement, but tells them that they're only allowed on SkyClan land. Furze and Tempest get angry at this. Snow glares at Rootspring and asks if the Clans also think they must serve them if they return, getting visibly angry. Rootspring becomes crestfallen, knowing there's no way to convince them now. However, the ghost of Moonlight appears, and the Sisters are astonished. Rootspring can also see Moonlight. As Moonlight's gaze meets his, she asks if he's Tree's kit, to which he confirms. Moonlight says she is Tree's mother. Rootspring feels Bristlefrost, Spotfur, and Needleclaw staring at him like he's crazy. Rootspring tells Moonlight that he learned about his "gift" recently. Moonlight tells Snow that she should help them. Snow asks why, since it sounds like they haven't changed since the battle. Moonlight says that Squirrelflight is a friend, and if her mate is missing, then they should return the favors Squirrelflight once did for them. Furze mews that they're restrained to SkyClan land, and Moonlight replies that the Clans love making rules, but to let them since they won't be there for long. Sunrise says they don't respect them, but Moonlight asks if they really need the Clans' respect. Hawk agrees, since whatever is affecting the Clans' ancestors may affect theirs soon as well. Snow concedes, and agrees to go, but says they must celebrate the new life first, looking at Spotfur. The Sisters gather around her, and Snow says that she's going to call on their ancestors to give her unborn kits a long and good life, and she knows the kits will be special. They begin to reverberate with purrs, and Spotfur is visibly uncomfortable with how upfront and close the Sisters are being, but Rootspring, Needleclaw, and Bristlefrost decide to join in on the Sisters' "song".

Ooh, I'm actually liking Snow in this. She seems kind and honorable. It seems to have always been a perspective thing on how they act. Also, I wasn't expecting a Moonlight appearance lets be honest. The fact that she thinks they should help is surprising enough. I really wish the books would tell us what happened to Ice and Petal.

Harsh vent warning x.x Welp, I called it. ThornXBlossom is a terrible ship and now they’re making it even worse with grand-spawn. Spotfur deserved better than to turn into an incubator :sleepy: Spotfur having kits doesn't automatically make her an incubator. It's not like she doesn't have a character to her. :/

Please don't tell me they're gonna force Shadowpaw into a Warrior role permanently on the basis that they can't fricking trust him as a Medicine Cat. That isn't what I want in a "Initially Med. cat gone Warrior" thing (Considering he's fricking willing to be a healer) and frankly I hope it's just a reverse to Rootpaw's temp Med. Cat thing. Don't ruin Mothwing too by making her so stuck up about his abilities.
Cats need to stop relying on Starclan as if they can't live without them. They literally can, at least in terms of being so dependent on them. Starclan can be there without them having to control the clan's entire state of being and acting. It's so frustrating watching them be sitting ducks.
Also let Stemleaf's kits be born healthy... please...
On a lighter note, Kesterlflight's finally got a frick fracking apprentice. So yay? About time tbh.

Chapter 13: Bristlefrost
Bristlefrost is in the Sisters' camp, while Rootspring and Needleclaw return from a hunting patrol, and Spotfur sits quietly. Rootspring goes to sit with Bristlefrost with some prey. Snow compliments Rootspring's hunting skills, and he says that Tree taught him a bit. Needleclaw explains that when they're six moons old, they become apprentices, which Snow seems to take interest in. As Rootspring and Bristlefrost eat, Sunrise looks at them affectionately. Bristlefrost sees this and looks away. Sunrise says there's no need to be shy, and she's glad her nephew has found someone fond of him. Rootspring and Bristlefrost are embarrassed and assert they're friends, but Sunrise doesn't believe them. Needleclaw says they can't be anything else than friends, because it would mean being disloyal to their Clan. Snow asks what his Clan has to do with it, and Bristlefrost says they can't take mates outside of their own Clan. They can be friends, but not mates. Hawk asks what happens if they fall in love with someone from another Clan. Bristlefrost says you're not supposed to, but Hawk asks again. Needleclaw is getting annoyed, and says a warrior is loyal to their own Clan above all things, even love. Snow asks why, and Needleclaw says that they wouldn't be able to defend their borders properly if they had to fight enemies they loved. Hawk frowns and asks if they're only allowed to love what's in their borders. Snow asks who made such a rule. Needleclaw says it's part of the warrior code. Tempest says it sounds like the code makes things harder, not easier. Needleclaw says it's meant to help them become the best they can be. Bristlefrost wonders if she's less of a warrior if she loved Rootspring. Needleclaw goes on and says that the Sisters shouldn't be taking the moral high ground when they kick out their toms for no other reason than because they must. Snow agrees, but doesn't appear to care about what Needleclaw just said, and claims that they don't shame cats for who they love. Snow says that Sunrise's sister Ice left them to be with a mate of her own, and although they miss her, they let her leave, but she'll be allowed back if she decides to return, and they're making it sound like loving a tom is betraying your Clan. Needleclaw argues it is. Bristlefrost says that they still kicked out Ice, and Needleclaw says that there's no real difference between their rules. Snow coldly says that they don't shame one another for what's in their hearts.
Spotfur looks up and says warriors haven't always followed rules, reminding them that Finleap left SkyClan to be with Twigbranch. Needleclaw says that it was different since they fell in love while both of them were in SkyClan. Spotfur asks about Dovewing and Tigerstar then. Needleclaw says it just proves that you can't love someone outside your Clan, since both of them betrayed their Clan to be with someone they loved, and doubts they'll be considered true warriors again. Bristlefrost quietly mews that she thinks they are a bit brave for it. Needleclaw gets mad and says that rules are rules, and they're there for a reason. If they all broke them, then there wouldn't be any Clans or warriors. Rootspring warns her to be careful, since she'll be yowling for codebreakers next, like Ashfur. Needleclaw stiffens and says that she isn't saying cats should be exiled, but Finleap and Dovewing could have saved everyone a lot of trouble that could have been easily avoided. Spotfur grumbles that she would have loved Stemleaf even if he was in another Clan. Bristlefrost wonders if she could leave ThunderClan for Rootspring, but knows she won't, because her Clan needs her more than ever. She thinks that even if she loved Rootspring, it wouldn't mean leaving ThunderClan, knowing that Crowfeather was the father of Lionblaze and Jayfeather, but they were raised by Squirrelflight and Bramblestar, and Crowfeather is the WindClan deputy now. She thinks that surely it must be possible to love Rootspring and still stay in ThunderClan. Snow says that they should probably all get some rest. Rootspring and Bristlefrost want to finish their meal, but Needleclaw insists that they should go to sleep. Rootspring convinces her otherwise. Bristlefrost says they shouldn't be up long. Rootspring says that it'll be okay, and they'll be home in a day or two. He folds his tail around hers and says it's strange to think about Finleap or Dovewing and how they changed Clans for their mates. Bristlefrost stiffens and wonders if Rootspring is suggesting they do the same. Rootspring goes on, saying he doesn't think he could leave his Clan or kin for love. Bristlefrost agrees, saying ThunderClan was where she was born and raised, and no matter what, her Clan must always come first.
The next morning, the Sisters are getting ready to leave, having recruited more Sisters who made their dens farther down the river. Seeing the amount of Sisters coming makes Bristlefrost think that it might send a bad message for patrolling cats, and suggests some stay behind, but Snow asserts they're all coming. Bristlefrost wonders how they'll possibly navigate through twolegplace with this many cats, but Rootspring says that Sunrise is smart and knows a way through. This cheers Bristlefrost up, and she leads the Sisters across the fields, and knows she's ready to return home.

Hey, wait a minute. Tree has always been stated to be small, not large. I just caught on to that. The exact quote is "[Rootspring] could see clearly now why he and Tree seemed so different from their Clanmates, larger than other warriors, broad where their denmates were lithe. The Sisters were huge, and not just because of their thick pelts. There was power in their wide shoulders and paws".
But yeah, that confused me too.

Yep, more questioning on the warrior code. There is going to be a change. I'm certain of it.

holy shit this chapter picks up quickly Chapter 14: Shadowsight (part of it, anyways, i need to go eat dinner and then will post the rest after)
Shadowsight is frustrated as he watches Mothwing inspect every herb. He would try and help, but Mothwing would complain that Shadowsight has no business in there. He recalls that Yarrowleaf had whitecough, and she's still waiting for Mothwing to find the herb to help her hacking cough, but Mothwing can't decide on whether to give tansy or honey. Puddleshine suggests giving both, since it wouldn't do any harm. Shadowsight is getting impatient, and if he were in charge of treated Yarrowleaf, he would have given her honey ages ago, and she'd be alright now. He figures since Mothwing and Puddleshine obviously don't need his help, he'll go check on Ashfur, but as he walks out, neither medicine cat pays him attention, making him think they don't care about him anymore.
As he heads over to Ashfur's prison, only Thriftear is standing guard. Shadowsight is confused, knowing that Squirrelflight would have sent two warriors as agreed. Thriftear notices Shadowsight and she twitches uneasily. Shadowsight realizes something is wrong, and he quickens his pace, bolting past her. She tries to stop him from entering the den, but he pushes past her. As he enters the den, he sees Lionblaze looming over Ashfur, his ears flat and back arched. Lionblaze is hissing at him viciously while Ashfur cowers against the wall of the hollow tree.
