So I've been rereading the entire series, and I'm on Starlight now.
Squirrelflight had a reason to not trust Hawkfrost, but I found her attitude towards Brambleclaw wanting to know his brother unfair. Yes, she was right in the end about him--but she didn't know it at the time.
She ruined her relationship with Brambleclaw during that arc by being angry that he wanted to get closer to his family. She acted like Brambleclaw was padding after another mate! I forgot how much she annoyed me with this lol.
I love Squirrelflight, but I feel she was in the wrong here towards Brambleclaw. What do you guys think?

The entire storyline was just really stupid on both ends. Regardless of familial ties, Hawkfrost was still a RiverClan cat and I wish Brambleclaw had been at least a little suspicious of his brother after Mudclaw confessed. And don't even get me started on him training with Tigerstar and suddenly trusting him. I know they were trying to make him feel lonely in his own home, but I just felt like it didn't work in its execution.
On the other side, Squirrelflight was being incredibly vague from what I remember. All she had to do was either tell Brambleclaw about her connection with Leafpool, or even just get Leafpool and/or Sorreltail to tell him what happened while they were gone. Even something like "I just want you to be careful" would've been fine!

Even if she was right in the end, I found it annoying how much she didn't trust Hawkfrost before, and how quick she was to shut out Brambleclaw for wanting to know about his brother. She shouldn't have made him choose between them.

She was right, but went about it the wrong way.

It's understandable why she didn't trust another cat from another Clan, but her dislike for Hawkfrost in the beginning was slightly bothersome. Yes her intuition about him was right, but she had to look about it this way:
If Leafpool joined another Clan, wouldn't she still want to get to know her sister?
Her attitude toward Brambleclaw/star's other kin was a bit biased and unfair, and that's what rubbed me the wrong way about her.

Basically what Neekwanakwaki (Cloud) said! They phrased it perfectly. It is seriously annoying that she instantly distrusted Hawkfrost. She trusted his relationship with Tawnypelt, who is in ShadowClan. But seriously, Bramble should have distrusted his brother a little.

After Starlight, when Mudclaw told them that Hawkfrost was part of his conspiracy, she was justified. Before then she was being unfair.
I haven't read TNP in a while, btw so my memory may be off.

It was funny how Hawkfrost was so obvious that even Brambleclaw admitted he found him sleazy and untrustworthy. I still will always be disappointed that Moth wasn't the villain, smh.

This situation is what made me dislike Squirrelflight at first. She was very rude to Brambleclaw, blaming him for not wanting to be with her despite being the one avoiding him first, and throwing the pity party about it. She always started shit with him about Hawkfrost and never understood his feelings about his brother until he brought up Leafpool. She was a huge jerk. But I realized she really wasn't that bad, matured a lot in her later years and sacrificed her happiness for Leafpool's sake. She's good. I respect her for this. I used to be a Squirrelflight hater myself but now I really like her. I wanted to respect her for the things she's done for her sister.

Starlight and Dawn: Squirrelflight was clearly in the wrong. Twilight and Sunset: Squirrelflight was in the right, but went about it completely wrong.
