Direwish walked into camp with their mouth full of prey. It looked a little ridiculous the amount of prey they held compared to how scrawny their body was. They walked over to the prey pile and dropped in two voles, a squirrel, and five mice. They sighed and walked away. They were quite tired as they had been hunting for a few hours. With a twitch of their tail they moved off to the side of the camp. They thought of Blossomsong their adoptive mother. The queen that took care of them after their littermates and mother died in kitting. It was a horrible tragedy that not many in the clan knew of anymore. Maybe Pollentail and Elmstar did or even Cedarfrost and of course Turtlepool and Heronflight as well. A tear fell for Blossomsong as he had seen her one day and she never came back after drowning saving a young cat in the Pond. They were able to give her a vigil and burial but it didn't provide closure for Direwish. They became a little more closed off from the clan that day. Few can actually get them to say more than a few quick sentences but they had a soft spot for younger cats.

Sadly, her head appeared above the water once more without anything in her jaws. "Oh well, I'll just try again," she mewed, her eyes already following another fish. |

Shadetooth shook his head and held back a laugh. "You need to be a little more patient. Too much splashing or acting too quick spooks the fish away." He watched a few minnows go by and left them be. They were far too small to feed a cat. |

"...Well I guess that seems reasonable, and your right about Frostfeather!" She looked over at Poppypaw, "are you okay with that, we can start today, in shallow water, and then maybe when Frostfeather is free, we can get her to come as well, and we don't have to start right now if you don't want to, we can wait a little until you get used to the idea, whatever you want!" Then she turned back to Icewhisper, "how long do you think that we should work on it for?" |

Amberpaw with shadetooth Mother Dark--- She nodded, her clear amber gaze shifting to the water once more. This time, she'd be careful. She saw a patch of brown passing through the water and quickly unsheathed her claws, hooking her claws onto the fish beneath her. She dragged it above the water and stuffed it into her jaws, clamping them around the fish to finish it off. After a bit, it stopped squirming. "I zid it," she mewed, her words unclear due to the prey in her mouth, "I 'eally zid!" |

Poppypaw with Icewhisper and Silversong Poppypaw listened to Icewhisper speak and nodded along. "Okay. I've never been swimming but if you think it will help then I'm willing yo try it." She said resolutely. She smiled at both the older she-cats. "I think Frostfeather left a bit ago after Mothbreeze though so we will have to wait." She added. Shadetooth with Amberpaw. "Good job. I didn't even catch a fish on my second try as an apprentice." Shadetooth praised. He sat back and waited for another fish to pass. Then he scooped it up and threw it on the shoreline. Amberpaw with shadetooth Mother Dark--- Amberpaw purred delightfully, acknowledging the praise. "Zhank zou," she mewed, before dropping the fish. She looked at the water again, tracking it with her gaze. She decided to try and dunk her head in this time. She looked at the water, seeing a fish. She dunked her head into the water, clamping her jaws around the fish. She barely got it, but it still happened. She dropped it behind her, a proud smile creeping upon her face. |

Elmstar open
Elmstar sat near the entrance of his den waiting to see if anyone had questions for him about the ceremony. His gaze raked across the camp and came to rest on Icewhisper talking to Silversong and Poppypaw. He decided to ask Icewhisper about their talk while they went to meet Silverrose and Ratwhisper. He sat straight and tall as a respectable leader should. He wondered if the others were already waiting at the Gathering place for them.
Webwillow open
Webwillow sat in camp licking her charcoal bengel pelt. Her fur was smooth and clean where her tongue had passed over it. She stopped and began to watch the clan wondering what she would do.
Windpaw open
(Hoping someone will patrol with him)
Windpaw was padding through the forest patrolling the area. He was checking the border furthest from Roseclan border. He also wanted to check around the area of the Moon Mushrooms to make sure that there were no predators or unknown cats around. He stayed multiple fox lengths away from the sacred place but sniffed the air to make sure it was clear. Satisfied he turned to go another direction.

Icewhisper - with Silversong and Poppypaw, mentions Elmstar Icewhisper suppressed a purr at Silversong's surprised reaction and nodded. When both cats said they didn't know much about swimming she gave a slight chuckle. While probably most warriors knew how to swim and taught their apprentices at some point sometimes there just were some cats who didn't enjoy being around water. "In that case you really should wait for Frostfeather," she agreed. "And like Silversong said, for the beginning you can start out in shallow water. At least until you know the basics." At Silversong's question she then said "You mean how long she should swim each time or how long it will take in general? The latter will depend on how often she exercises." She turned to Poppypaw with a friendly smile. "But I think it won't take you too long to build up more strength. You should be able to become a warrior along with the other apprentices around your age instead of after them."
Then she turned back to Silversong. "But back to how long Poppypaw should swim. First I would like to see how she's doing in the water once she knows the basics so I can properly judge how much we can demand of her for the first swimming sessions. So if you haven't met with Frostfeather before Elmstar and I get back from taking Silverrose and Ratwhisper to the Moon Mushrooms I would like to come along." Icewhisper glanced over to Elmstar as she said this, wondering if he was ready to go meet the two Roseclan cats. Once she caught his eye she gave a brief nod to indicate that they could leave as soon as she was finished here. "If you have already asked her at that point I will accompany you tomorrow, if that is alright with you. Or still today if the two of you are up for another trip to the pond."

"Yes, sure. Maybe we could start at however long you think is right after we see her swim, and then slowly build up, gradually adding more time, but whatever you think is right, but we'll be ready whenever you are! I was actually hoping that you would be able to watch, mainly because, as I mentioned before, I really can't swim, so I'll probably end up needing help to!" Silversong gave a small laugh, "it might even be fun!"

"Yes, that's the idea," Icewhisper said. "We shouldn't demand too much of her at the beginning but building up from that will be necessary to get the best out of it." With a purr she nodded. "Who knows? Quite a few cats here enjoy swimming so you two might end up liking it as well." She smiled at Poppypaw as she said this. "It would definitely make it less of a chore to you if you're having fun. But yes, I will definitely come along to watch. Until Elmstar and I are back you should just have a normal training session though, whether it's hunting or fighting. Just be sure to take a small break after that if you still want to start swimming today."

Poppypaw listened to the two older she-cats talk about what she should do to catch up to the others. She felt melancholy and a little down on herself for having to do more work to catch up. She nodded and smiled though. "Okay. Which do you want to do, Silversong?"

"I think that maybe we should work on hunting, just to preserve your energy a bit more, not that there is much of a difference between the two. We shouldn't be out to long, because like Icewhisper said, we should take a break so that you're not too tired for swimming, and you'll be using a lot of different muscles that you don't typically use, so I'm sure that you'll be a bit sore tomorrow."

Icewhisper - briefly with Poppypaw and Silversong, then with Elmstar
"And yours as well," Icewhisper meowed with a smile as she dipped her head. "Good luck, you two." She watched them for a bit as she padded over to Elmstar and then turned her attention to him. It seemed like no one had anything to discuss with him right now so, like Silversong had said, he was probably ready to leave. "Sorry for the wait," she said as she reached him. "I just had something to discuss with Silversong and Poppypaw. If no one else needs anything from either of us right now we are ready, right?"
Weaselkit - with Wishkit
"Yeah! And if we won't get him then the others won't get him either!" Once Wishkit had wriggled free Weaselkit tried to roll over to get away and to climb to her paws but right as she attempted this the other kit was already on top of her. "Get off of me!" she yowled as she tried to push her off, trying to look offended at the fact that Wishkit had stuck out her tongue at her earlier but it was impossible for her to hide her grin.
Wolfkit - with Gazekit
"I'll think about it," he joked. "If Weaselkit and Foxkit aren't already pushing their chores on me." When Gazekit then got all excited about their upcoming apprentice ceremony Wolfkit couldn't help but smile. "Not even an entire moon until then," he sighed. "It's getting harder to wait. I think Weaselkit is starting to count the days," he added with a chuckle. "Can't really blame her though. We all can't wait to become warriors. Or medicine cats, in your case."

Wishkit laughed and laughed as Weaselkit tried to push her off. The got so fired up that she actually fell off the other kit. "I don't think anyone would do well as Cedarfrost's apprentice." She joked.
Gazekit with Wolfkit.
Gazekit laughed. "Yeah I would just tell anyone our age no if they tried to push off their chores on you." He calmed himself about becoming an apprentice. "I bet we are all a little too eager. These moons have been moving slowly."

Elmstar chuckled as Icewhisper walked up. "You're fine. You have expertise that no other cat in this clan has. It would be silly of my to be annoyed for doing your job." He stood and took a step to the entrance. "We better get to the Gathering Clearing though. They may well be waiting on us." He took another couple steps but didn't go too far from his companion.
Webwillow open
Webwillow walked into the camp after hunting. She carried a rabbit with her and two mice. She made her way over to the prey pile and set it down. She selected a plump vole and walked over to the side of the camp to eat.
Windpaw open. (Hoping someone would make the dawn patrol with him)
Windpaw scented the air near the Moon Mushrooms checking for any danger that the leaders and medicine cats might run into on their journey. Finding none he moved on past and headed for the nearest border.

As she reached the entrance of the camp Poppypaw forced herself to calm down. "I don't what to scare the prey away with my excitement." She said as she stepped out into the forest. "Which way should we go? We could go to the Meadow or near the Pond." She offered suggestions though she would let Silversong choose as she was still quite young.

"Okay then, it's always good to practice, maybe I can help you get even better!" Silversong smiled back at Poppypaw. She's so cute, I'm glad to see her so energetic, despite her size and strength. "I would love to catch a fish from the stream, I'm not sure that there will be any because I've never really been over to the stream, but possibly, if I'm lucky there might be one." She said cheerfully, bouncing a little, just as a kit would. She flicked her ears with embarrassment, I can't believe I just did that, hopefully Poppypaw didn't notice.

Poppypaw listened to her mentor but paused smelling something on the air. It took her a minute to recognize it. "I smell a vole already." She said with a smile. She nodded as Silversong said she wanted to catch a fish. She took a tentative step forward before dropping into a crouch. Her two colored eyes focused in on where the smell was coming from and she moved forward slowly inching her way close enough to pounce. Once she was close enough she sprung forward coming up a little short. But she managed to swing a paw out and grab the vole to bite it. After she was done she carried it back to her mentor. "How'd I do?"

Silversong with Poppypaw
Silversong watched from afar as her apprentice crouched, ready to strike. She seems to be doing pretty well! Silversong narrowed her eyes. She craned her neck to see better without disturbing the vole. She saw Poppypaw inch forward, then she pounced, a little short, but still good enough to catch the vole. Silversong trotted over to Poppypaw. "Poppypaw! Great job! You did really good!" She praised, the scent of fresh blood filled her nose. She didn't want to ruin her apprentice's moment of happiness, but that was a lucky catch, Poppypaw didn't quite get as close to the vole as she could have. "You did great," Silversong said again, "but, do you know what you did wrong?" Silversong flicked her ears, did I come on to strong? "I mean, like I said, it was still amazing, but what could you have done better?" She said quickly.

Poppypaw set down the vole and got flusted at her mentor's praise. She blushed and turned away for a moment before turning back. Sje knew exactly what she had messed up on when Silversong asked what she could have done better. "I didn't make that jump. I could have lost the vole if I hadn't been fast enough."
