HAWKPAW
Hawkpaw was excited. This was his first gathering, and the prospect of meeting other new cats was greatly appealing to him. The young tom was easy-going and light-hearted, and though he was a BeetleClan cat fiercely proud of his clan and heritage, he was easy to get along with, and made friends fairly easily. He enjoyed making friends, and though he enjoyed spending time with his clan, he wanted to hear some new stories โ new legends and tales to tell โ from the other clans. Wasnโt that the point of the Gathering, after all? So as his leader led BeetleClan to the Gathering Falls, he trotted along, tail held high in the air, copper-orange eyes gleaming with excitement. His thick pelt was fluffed outward, warding off the cold spray of the waterfall as they passed beneath it, and once heโd leapt over the stepping stones and reached the Gathering Falls he gave himself a shake, dislodging any stray droplets of water. He took a moment to calm himself down and seem composed, smoothing the fur of his chest down with a few swift rasps of his tongue. And then, with a prancing stride, Hawkpaw strode into the gathering.
He moved about, mewing greetings and introductions to the various cats he met. Heโd stop and linger, listening to the various stories that the cats around him were telling, before heโd move on, storing any tales he heard for later. He drifted a bit closer to the leaderโs rock, and then something caught his eye, and he turned to bring it into his full-view.
It was a she-cat, sitting next to another tom. Although the tomโs face was friendly, and heโd fluffed his coat out, the she-cat had a sullen expression, like there was something foul on her tongue. He didnโt know why, but he had the urge to chase that expression away. His brow furrowed briefly, and he glanced around the Gathering falls. He trotted over to the river and searched the shore for a good while, before he found what he was looking for, and snapped it up in his jaws, turning to trot back in the direction of the sullen she-cat. Once heโd reached her, he bent, opened his jaws, and dropped a fascinatingly shaped rock at her feet. It was smooth around the edges, but shaped sort of like a tulip, if one squinted and turned their head the right way. He sat back, looking quite pleased with himself. โYou looked rather sullen,โ he mewed, dipping his head in greeting. โStrange rocks always cheer me up, so I figured Iโd share that burden. My name is Hawkpaw.โ

[Spiderclan Members]
NightflowerOpen/Gathering [/] Nightflower sat near the other medicine cats, though about two fox-lengths sat between herself and the rest. She usually sat like this. Close enough to listen, and speak up, if needed, but enough that she didn't have to engage with anyone too much. She enjoyed the other medicine cats, she did. A big part of her just preferred to keep to herself, especially when it came to the other clans. She was always willing to give advice and help anyone that was in need, but she was far from close to any of the cats of the other clans.
The long furred calico molly curled her feathery tail, tightly against her paws, her ears pricked, listening to the chatter around her. The leaders had all spoken, and now, the clans around her, were sharing tongues. Her gaze traveled, searching for her apprentice. She'd have to make a note, to speak to her about the gatherings. It was their duty as medicine cats, to sit near each other. Apprentice or not, she should have sat near her. On another note, she'd also have to explain to her, that even at a friendly gathering, the little apprentice, needed to keep her boundaries, from the other clans. She'd witnessed the young cat, sitting so close to a tom from another clan, their fur brushed. In Nightflower's eyes, that was absolutely unacceptable.
With a soft sight, The medicine cat let the tip of her tail, tap against her paws. A slight impatience, had filled her. This evening, she felt no urge, to speak to anyone, or even see anyone. She longed to be home, and checking on her herbs. She longed to sit at the camp entrance, and just gaze into the stars. It'd been awhile since Starclan had spoken, and that worried her a bit. Something was bound to come up soon for these four clans. She let her amber gaze, travel around the clearing again, watching the four clans mingling. He fur on her shoulder, starting to bristle slightly. She felt something coming. She didn't know when. And she didn't know what. But she just knew, something was in store for the clans.
Frostrose Open//Gathering [/] The black shape of Frostrose, slunk through the shadows of the edge of the clearing, where the four clans met. She'd been sitting near her sister, when the clan leaders had spoken. The warrior had decided to slink off on her own, when the leaders dismissed their clans, to share tongues amongst each other. The pretty long-furred molly, kept her head low, and her ice-blue eyes narrowed, as she searched for someone to interact with. Most of the clan cats, had already mingled amongst themselves. Her gaze traveled to where the clan leaders had been speaking, still seeing them close by. She couldn't help but feel in slight awe, of the four leaders. Part of her longed to be the one speaking for her clan. Another part of her, hated the thought of having to be responsible, for so many other lives.
Frostrose gave a little snort of amusement, shaking her head, at her own thoughts. Sometimes she could get a little ambitious. Though, the young molly, knew she would never be more than a warrior for Spiderclan. As nice as the idea of leading the clan one day, sounded. The only thing she truly looked forward to, was eventually having a mate, and kits. She longed to bring children, into Spiderclan. Showing them the ways of a warrior, of a Spiderclan warrior. Though, her sister often told her, she'd never give up the life of a warrior, to raise kits in the nursery. Nightflower didn't believe that she had it in her. Didn't believe that was a part of her story.
Giving another shake of her head, her ears twitching. she shook the thoughts from her mind. She crouched down, still slightly in the shadows, wondering if anyone had noticed her daydreaming. She blended in, usually, unless her white chest, gave her away.
WolfpawOpen//Gathering [/]
The large dark brown tabby tom, sat near the other apprentices, keeping quiet, but keeping his ears up, to listen to the conversations around him. He green eyes narrowed, as he watched Echopaw, the Spiderclan medicine cat, pressed against Burrpaw, the Mothclan apprentice. He couldn't help but let out a snort, as a Waspclan warrior, reunited with Burrpaw. He couldn't help but scrunch his face up in annoyance, as he watched Shadestalker, greet his halfclan kit. The apprentice's fur, bristled slightly, as he watched the interaction. He couldn't understand how the clans allowed this type of nonesense. Isn't this one of the very things, that went against the warrior code.? And to watch the medicine cat of Spiderclan, getting all cozy with the halfclan apprentice, make his blood boil.
With a disgusted hiss, the large tom stood, and whipped around, bounding towards his father, Cliffspider. He would rather be near his father, than listening to the group of cats behind him. Slowing to a halt, he sat at a distance from the leaders, Dipping his head in a sign of respect, towards the older cats.

Echopaw (SpiderClan) Echopaw's eyes narrowed, glancing between the two dark furred cats. "Dad?" She hadn't meant for her to voice her confusion aloud, but she was sure she must have misheard them. Burrpaw had said he was from MothClan and she was pretty sure she recognized the older warrior as Shadestalker of WaspClan, unless she got her cats mixed up, so how were they related? Unless Burrpaw was halfclan. Oh. Realization dawned on her and she took a shocked step away, feeling embarrassed and intrusive now. "Sorry, that was rude." She whispered, glancing away. Not to mention it looked like such an important moment for the two, so she felt like she was interrupting. Was it a big deal that they were kin in two different clans, greeting each other so lovingly? She wasn't quite sure how to handle it. Should she be mad at them for violating the code? Everyone probably was. Gosh, Burrpaw must have to work hard to prove himself during his apprenticeship. She needed to give them some space, and it also hurt her ego that Shadestalker asked who she was, so it was time for her to go. At least Burrpaw recognized her as an important medicine cat. She blinked up at the WaspCLan warrior and addressed him. "Um, hi. And bye. I should go join my mentor before I get into too much trouble." She dipped her head and backed away, with one last grin towards her new MothClan friend before the dilute calico turned and hurried away. Once she was out of earshot she let out a breath she was holding in, shoulders slumping with the loud sigh. "That was awkward." She murmured out loud before glancing around for Nightflower and the other medicine cats.

Burrpaw (MothClan) // Gathering Falls // with Echopaw and Shadestalker
"You're sorry?" Burrpaw echoed his father. "For what?" For being from a different Clan? Burrpaw guessed. For leaving him and his mother by themselves in MothClan? Burrpaw subconsciously stepped back a bit, realizing he had harbored some animosity toward his father. But was that wrong? And he could see now in Shadestalker's eyes that he really was sorry after all. "I... I was never angry at you," Burrpaw lied. "I understand that you had duties to WaspClan. I admire that kind of loyalty."
Then his father asked about Echopaw. Truth be told, he'd forgotten about her for a minute in the excitement of meeting his father for the first time. Burrpaw looked at her with shining eyes, ready to introduce her as his newest friend, but when he saw her expression he felt his spirits drop into his stomach. She looked shocked, maybe even... disapproving? She'd seemed so nice, and Burrpaw had been excited to get to know her. She shot him one last smile, but Burrpaw still felt awful. She quickly walked away, pushing through the crowd as she headed for the other medicine cats. "Echopaw - wait!" he whispered with one outstretched paw, pulling back slowly as she disappeared. Had he ruined everything? Would she get in trouble for sitting next to him?
Burrpaw looked back up at his father, smiling sadly. "She's the SpiderClan medicine cat apprentice. We had just met, but... she was really nice," he murmured. He lifted his head to see if he could make out her dilute calico pelt in the crowd, but she was gone. But maybe... An idea formed in Burrpaw's mind, and he decided he would find her once the Gathering ended, before everyone went their separate ways. He had an idea for a way they could keep talking, but without everyone judging them so harshly in an open clearing like the Gathering Falls.

Echopaw (SpiderClan)
She heard him call after her, but she pretended she didn't. Was that a horrible thing to do? Her fur burned with embarrassment and a little bit of shame. She felt bad for the way she left so abruptly, Burrpaw must hate her, but she felt like she needed to leave them alone before she said something stupid or make Burrpaw feel shamed for who he was. None of it was his fault anyway. Shaking her pelt to rid herself of the thoughts, she plastered a smile on her face and hurried over to where the medicine cats were gathered. Nightflower was sure to be annoyed that she slipped away to mingle, but she couldn't help it. She loved being social, meeting others and being close to them.
"Hello everyone," She greeted the rest of the group as she joined them, settling close to Nightflower and gently bumping against her side with a loud purr. Maybe the medicine cat wouldn't be so upset if she was sweet to her, she pondered as she leaned lightly into her so their fur brushed. She was touchy and affectionate with everyone, so her mentor was probably used to her sitting so close by now.

Shadestalker of Waspclan Burrpaw // @fallownose He sighed sadly, seeing what had happened. "Once again, I ruined everything.", he muttered, bowing his head. "I'm sorry for everything I've done to you. It was probably my fault she left." With that he stood up and turned away, beginning to slouch away. Sadness chocked his mews as he said, "I'm not fit to be a father. I don't deserve you, and you don't need me." He slouched away towards Waspclan territory, half hoping Burrpaw would call put to him, but he didn't expect it, let alone think he deserved it.

Burrpaw (MothClan) // Gathering Falls // with Shadestalker
"What? No!" Burrpaw snapped back to attention as his father took on the blame. "It's - it isn't your fault, really." Burrpaw hung his head and sighed. "It was me. She's probably angry after finding out I'm half-Clan." She had that same look everyone gives me, he thought dejectedly, like I shouldn't even exist. But I guess she was bound to find out at some point. Shadestalker had begun to stalk away, and Burrpaw took a few steps after him, not caring if he made a scene. "Please, Dad, don't go." He swallowed hard, hoping his voice wouldn't give out as he continued. "I do need you. I've always needed you. Please."

Shadestalker of Waspclan Burrpaw // @fallownose He turned back around, happiness entering his gaze once more, but not much. "It's my fault she found out, though." He walked back to Burrpaw. "You don't need me, though. You've made it this far without me." His ears are flat with sadness and guilt. He raised his head, determination beginning to flower in his eyes, even if it was still outweighed by guilt and sadness. "I need to set things right."

Burrpaw (MothClan) // Gathering Falls // with Shadestalker
Burrpaw felt as though his heart would break, seeing the guilt Shadestalker clearly carried. "She would've found out eventually," Burrpaw reasoned. "And I've only made it this far because I wanted to be a warrior you could be proud of." A son you could be proud of, he added silently. He had always dreamed of being a respected warrior one day, but his half-Clan heritage held him back. The scorn he often tried to ignore only served to push him harder. Burrpaw hadn't known much about his father, but he'd been sure that he was a great WaspClan warrior, someone he could look up to. Yet here Shadestalker was, looking as though he'd given up under the slightest pressure, seeming as though he'd decided there was nothing he could do that would make him a good father. And for that, Burrpaw couldn't help feeling a small spark of resentment.
Burrpaw blinked in confusion at the sudden determined look spreading across his father's face. "Set what right?" he asked, now feeling a bit nervous. He barely knew anything about his father, which made it difficult to predict his actions; was Shadestalker going to do something rash? "Wh-what do you mean, Dad?"

Shadestalker of Waspclan Burrpaw // @fallownose "No. It was my fault." He muttered. "Don't worry.", he said. "I won't hurt anybody. Some cats just need to be taught lessons. Now, I'm sorry, but if I'm going to do this, I need to leave now. I'm sorry." Then, he came up with an idea. "Next gathering, let's meet there.", he said, pointing towards a particularly round boulder with a perfectly flat bottom. Then, he turned and walked away. The thing is, he walked towards Spiderclan.

Burrpaw (MothClan) // Gathering Falls // with Echopaw, mentions Shadestalker
Some cats just need to be taught lessons. What did Shadestalker mean? Burrpaw watched in stunned silence as his father turned away and disappeared into the crowd. What is he planning to do? Burrpaw fretted, pawing nervously at the ground. He had no idea what to expect form this father he'd never known, and Burrpaw hated not knowing things. Maybe he could get some answers from Shadestalker at the next Gathering, when they would meet by the rounded boulder he'd pointed out. But that was a whole moon away, and so much could happen in that amount of time. "Ughh," Burrpaw groaned quietly, tipping his head back to stare up at Silverpelt. He wished StarClan would give him answers to his problems, like they did for the medicine cats. But the stars simply twinkled overhead, seemingly unaware of the troubles Burrpaw was facing down on the ground. His eyes were drawn to the moon, and he realized with a jolt that the full moon had already reached its peak; the Gathering would be ending very soon. The cats around him milled about, but he was sure they would soon be wrapping up their conversations and grouping together with the rest of their Clanmates for the journey back to their territories. If Burrpaw wanted to catch Echopaw before everyone left, he would have to do it now.
Carefully, Burrpaw made his way through the crowd, careful not to disturb anyone or draw any attention to himself. He slunk toward the area where the medicine cats typically sat, but stopped as a thought came to him. His proposition to Echopaw obviously couldn't be heard by the other medicine cats, so he would have to draw her away, somewhere they could talk quietly. He shifted course so that he on the outskirts of the gathered cats, in the shade of the brush surrounding the Gathering Falls. Burrpaw hoped his dark pelt would blend into the shadows well enough. He sat in wait just across from Echopaw's line of sight, sinking deeper into the brush whenever one of the other medicine cats looked in his direction. Burrpaw waited until he could catch Echopaw's eye, jerking his head slightly to indicate that he wanted to talk to her, alone.

Echopaw (SpiderClan) Echopaw was still sitting among the other medicine cats, happily engaging in conversations with whomever was open to speak with her. She was far more outgoing than Nightflower, who always seemed to keep a distance between herself and the others. Suddenly spotting a movement in the corner of her eye, she turned her head to look towards the outskirts of the Gathering Falls, eyes widening as she focused on the shadowy figure. In the moment before she recognized him, her heart skipped a beat and she thought it might be a starclan or dark forest spirit giving her an omen. Alas, it was only Burrpaw. She frowned, yellow-green eyes narrowing in confusion and she mouthed a silent what? in his direction. She hesitated, glancing from side to side before hopping to her paws. "I have to make some dirt before we get ready to leave!" She said quickly with a flick of her tail against her mentors shoulder before hurrying away towards the brush where the MothClan apprentice was waiting. She was definitely curious about what he was trying to catch her attention for. "Do you have a secret to share?" She whispered as she joined him, a tone of laughter present in her voice. She backed herself into the brush, crouching down to cover herself as her pelt wasn't as dark as his and easier to notice in the shadows. Her gaze met Burrpaw's wide green eyes expectantly. She wasn't sure why, but she felt like she should stay out of sight and hide the fact that she was talking to Burrpaw from the rest of the medicine cats, especially with the way he was acting. It actually made her a little excited, like a game where she didn't want to get caught.

Burrpaw (MothClan) // Gathering Falls // with Echopaw
Burrpaw's spirits lifted slightly as he successfully gained Echopaw's attention. He crept back to give her space as she joined him, feeling heat rise under his pelt as he met her curious eyes. Her playful mew made him feel a bit better - perhaps she wasn't angry at him after all. "Um, kind of," he responded, glancing briefly over the top of the brush to make sure no one could see them. He didn't have much time before the Gathering ended, so he would have to be quick. "First of all, I'm really sorry if my dad made you uncomfortable, and I'm sorry you had to find out that way that I'm half-Clan, and -" Burrpaw paused, trying to catch his breath as the words came tumbling out. "I'm just sorry, okay? I still would like to be friends with you - I mean, if... if you want," he mumbled, shuffling his paws self-consciously. He averted his gaze so that he didn't have to look Echopaw in the eye, afraid of what emotions might be present there. "Anyways, I know we didn't really get to finish talking, and, um..." He stopped, realizing that what he was about to propose would be looked down upon by other cats. Maybe even by Echopaw herself. "I was wondering if you wanted to meet back here, at the Falls, tomorrow night? Just you and me. No one would be judging us for hanging out, if they can't see us." He was sure he could hear the cats in the clearing separating into their respective Clans, preparing to leave the Gathering. "Just, um, think about it okay? I'd understand if you don't want to, but I'll be here tomorrow at moonhigh. Just in case." Before Echopaw could answer, Burrpaw pushed through the brush without looking back and slipped through the crowd to the other MothClan cats, falling in beside the other apprentices and hoping no one would wonder where he'd been.

(My next Shadestalker posts will be in the Spiderclan page) Cliffspider Cliffspider got in the center and called to the entire gathering, "I have some bad news.". He paused for dramatic affect, then continued, "I'm afraid it's time to leave. Sleep well!" He had lost a little bit of the bounce in his step, as he was sad about having to leave the gathering, but he still was acting quite a bit like a kit. With great gusto, he beckoned his clan to him with his tail.
