It all started within ShadowClan. When Tigerstar was bitten by a rat within carrion place. As time went on Tigerstar started to act stranger. Claiming to always be in pain, he gained a fever, as well as being more irritable than normal. Puddleshine, of course confined Tigerstar to his den. By the time the gathering rolled around. Puddleshine, Shadowpaw, even most of the clan had these symptoms.
Immediately by the time they showed up to the gathering, everyone knew something was just.. off. Then as the leaders started sharing news, Tigerstar lunged to and bit Bramblestar. Then most of ShadowClan went crazy, lunging at the nearest cat and shoving their teeth in their flank. At that moment, that very second, I knew, deep down in my gut, that nothing would ever be the same again...
The dim moonlight shone through the trees in the clearing. The pounding of many cat's paws broke the silence of the island.
Suddenly Tigerstar burst through the undergrowth. "Ahh Tigerstar, you've come." Leafstar mentioned. "I was beginning to think ShadowClan wouldn't arrive."
I felt the ShadowClan leader's gaze sear my flank. "I'm sorry that ShadowClan has other matters to attend to." Tigerstar snapped.
I felt Nighthope shudder beside me. "Don't you think Tigerstar is acting.. slightly strange?" Nighthope asked. She glanced at the rest of ShadowClan. "They all look slightly irritable." I felt her fur bush up in anxiety.
"Don't worry." I brushed my tail over her spine to flatten her fur. "I'm sure everything will be fine.." Now that I think about it, I couldn't have been more wrong.
I heard the soft sound of whispering cats. I glanced at Nighthope. She seemed to be calmer, but she also looked ready to pounce on anything that breathed.
"Silence!" I heard Tigerstar's commanding yowl ring out across the clearing. Immediately like it was routine, every cat in the clearing went quiet. "The gathering will now commence!" He flicked his tail toward Bramblestar sitting next to him. "You start." He sat down, as his ears and tail started to twitch uncontrollably.
Bramblestar blinked gratefully at Tigerstar and stood up. "Prey is running well in ThunderCla-" Nighthope rose slightly on her haunches as an earsplitting screech shattered the peace of the island, Tigerstar spasmed on the branch he was sitting on. Nighthope jumped to her paws and shoved me up as well.
Time seemed to slow down as I watched Tigerstar shriek again and lunge at Bramblestar. As he suck his teeth into Bramblestar's shoulder, all of ShadowClan screeched and jumped at the nearest cat.
The whole of the gathering erupted into chaos as for all anyone knew they were fighting for their lives.
Everything became a blur as a single image jumped out at me. I let out a screech as someone landed on me and tackled me to the ground. Their snapping jaws were hard to dodge, considering they were almost grazing my neck. I hissed and slammed my hind legs into their stomach making them yelp and bang into a tree.
"Get off me you Flea-pelt!" I swung my head to hear Nighthope's angry cry. I gaped as I saw her pinned to the ground with a cat's jaws a whisker length from her neck.
Instinctively I jumped at the cat on top of her. But I jumped a second too late as the cat managed to sink his claws into her shoulder. I heard her cry out in pain as I landed onto the cat who pinned her down.
"Anyone who touches Nighthope again, will have the same fate as you.." I sunk my teeth into their neck. The tom's warm blood soaked my fangs as I felt the cat go limp.
Everything suddenly went dark as I glanced at the moon. Clouds were beginning to cover it. Almost everything was silent. Did I do that?
My gaze left the moon as I looked at everyone around me. Their were very few who weren't acting like maniacs.
A loud screech sounded next to me as I was slammed to the ground. I recognized that noise. "Get off me!" I yelped. I was tackled by a small cat so it was easy to wrestle them off of me.
I yowled as he raked his claws against my flank. Knowing I had to keep him away from me, I butted my head into his belly as he reared up to swipe at me again. I heard him crash to the ground with a screech.
Glancing franticly around, I realized the entrance to the island was blocked by fighting cats. I was surrounded, except for the lake.
"Nighthope!" I called rushing over to where she was fighting. I turned and shoved my back paws into her attacker's jaw. "Follow me!" I meowed.
The only way off the island was jumping in the lake. I glanced behind me. Nighthope was following me. I sent a prayer to StarClan and jumped into the lake.
I gasped. "Are you crazy?!" She yowled back to me. I felt her splash next to me. The waves washed over us as we made our way towards the shore.
"StarClan help us." I asked jumping onto the shore. Nighthope jumped next to me. Yowls of anger sounded behind us. As I glanced behind myself, I saw the last thing I would ever want.
Every cat that went insane, was running in our direction. And they were aggravated..
Chapter 1
The bright sunlight shone through the small hole at the top of the den. Dark shadows still lingered in the edges of the burrow.
It's been two sunrises since the attack at the gathering. Nighthope and I have been sheltering in the safety of an old rabbit burrow.
The cats who attacked us seem to be hunting us down. It's getting harder and harder to find prey without finding cats looking for us. It's not helping that Leaf-bare is right around the corner.
I looked over at a black silhouette in the corner of the den. Nighthope wasn't doing well with the fact that everyone was gone.
Yesterday she saw her mother out looking for her. That was a reality check that shook her to the bone. Nighthope hasn't been the same since.
I started padding over to the corner of the den where Nighthope was. "Nighthope, wake up." I placed my paw on her flank and pushed her. "Wake up."
I felt her shift underneath my paw. "Leave me alone, Galespirit." Nighthope meowed. She shifted so that she was pressed up against the wall of the burrow.
"Alright." I breathed. "I'm going hunting," I searched for something reassuring to say but I came back empty pawed.
I heard her shift her position, and flinched as I heard the most depressing thing possible. A low guttural moan filled the den. It sounded like all the leaders in the Dark Forest were moaning as they were released into the living world.
"No!.. I don't need to lose you to!.." Nighthope wailed. "What have we done to deserve such a fate..?" I padded over to where she was laying down, and curled up next to her.
"Everything is going to be fine.." I tried to sound reassuring. Both for her and for me. As I was starting to loose hope as well. I couldn't help but be concerned for Nighthope. She was one of the most optimistic and hopeful cats in the clan. And now, she's finally broke, she's finally at her breaking point.
)…(
The colorful leaves rustled in the cool breeze that sept the forest. The bright sun warmed my pelt as I raced across the ground.
The fallen leaves crunched beneath my paws as I closed in on the plump rabbit infront of me. With one last burst of strength I lunged at the rabbit and knocked it down. I felt it struggling in my grip and I bit down hard on the back of it's neck. The satisfying crunch of it's spine was audible as the rabbit went limp in my jaws.
I licked my jaws as I stood up and shook the leaves off my pelt. "Nighthope will be grateful for this." I whispered to myself before picking the rabbit up.
My ears perked up as I heard scuffling in the bushes. I turned, the scent of cat hit my nose and I immediately crouched down. I saw white and ginger fur caught in the bush.
Getting ready to leap forward, I squinted my eyes. The shape of a cat rested in the bushes. I lunged forward, hitting the young cat right in the back of the shoulders.
The cat let out a screech of terror as I let my whole weight slam down on them. We hit the ground and the young tom started struggling. I leaned over and hissed in his ear, "Stop struggling or say goodbye to your pelt."
I felt the tom stop trying to get out of my grasp. I got a good look at the tom. He looked like a cat at the gathering he saw. "Are you with the cats who attacked at the gathering?" I growled.
"No!" He meowed. "Of course not! I've been running from them!" His meow was filled with hope. "I'm Cedarpaw, what's your name?"
"Galespirit." I said. Warily I lifted my weight of the young cat. I noticed that you could count the tom's ribs. Cedarpaw's pelt was matted and knotted, yet the apprentice didn't bat an eye and was as cheerful as a cat in Greenleaf.
I cursed under my breath as I heard the last thing I would ever want. The pounding of pawsteps on the ground and the loud crunching of leaves sounded behind me.
Instinctively I bolted away from the direction of the den I and Nighthope shared. It would be bad if I led who or whatever was following me towards our den.
I felt a large weight land on my shoulders and the hissing of a cat in my ear. Cedarpaw let out an earsplitting screech, and an audiable thump sounded as he fell to the ground. I dropped down to the ground and tucked my paws under my belly, going limp.
Surprisingly my attacker didn't release their grip. I felt paws comb through my pelt. "All clear!" I heard a yowl ring out across the forest.
A cat hissed in my ear, "If you try anything Flea-pelt, then say hello to Starclan." The weight on my shoulders lifted and I sprang to my paws and turned on the attackers hissing. "Who are you!?" I growled. For the first time I got a good look at the cats.
The cat who had tackled me was a large ginger and white tom. There was a cream she-cat standing off to the side, with a grey and black tom. A white and grey she-cat was padding toward me and Cedarpaw.
"Blazeheart!" She hissed at the ginger tom. "Be nicer. They haven't done anything wrong." The she-cat looked over at us. "I'm Briarheart." She pointed her tail toward the other she-cat and blue tom. "And that's Brightberry and Bluehawk. I see you've already met Blazeheart."
A screech sounded behind the group as a black she-cat slammed into Bluehawk. The tom let out a yowl as the she-cat pummeled his belly.
Was that Nighthope? She should be in our den! "Nighthope!" I yowled, "Stop!" My fur bristled on my spine. It was dangerous out here, and Nighthope didn't need to see her mother, father, or siblings out here.
I rushed over to where she was pinning Bluehawk. I grunted as I pulled her off of him. "He's not like the cats at the gathering!" My meow was muffled by her scruff.
I dropped her on the ground. Nighthope turned on me, "Why are you with them?" She hissed, "They attacked you!" Nighthope turned her glare toward Blazeheart.
"Hey. I was just making sure he wasn't bitten by one of those infected cats." Blazeheart defended. "If he was we all would have been in danger."
Briarheart was about to talk but Brightberry cut her off, "YEAH, BRIARHEART," She mocked. "Blazeheart was just keeping us safe."
Briarheart opened her mouth to reply when Bluehawk interjected, "Maybe Blazeheart was just keeping us safe." He meowed, "BUT, he was a little hard on him." Bluehawk flicked his tail at me.
"A LITTLE HARD?!" Nighthope cut Briarheart off. The young molly looked like she would kill whoever cut her off again. "You knocked him to the ground! You call that, 'a little hard'?"
Briarheart flicked her tail. No one was speaking at the moment. She sighed, she seemed assured that no one would interrupt, Briarheart opened her jaws to finally speak, "I think-"
"I'M SORRY THAT I'M BIGGER THAN THE AVERAGE CAT!" Blazeheart snarled, cutting Briarheart off. "HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF YOU COULD BREAK A CAT'S SPINE BY JUST SLAMMING YOUR PAW ON IT?!"
Briarheart looked about to explode. "THAT'S IT." Her meow rang out around the group. "We need to stop fighting. Featherwing is waiting for us back in camp. We'll bring Nighthope, and.." She looked at Cedarpaw and me.
"I'm Galespirit." I pointed my tail at Cedarpaw. "This is Cedarpaw." I turned back to Briarheart. "Thank you for offering to bring us to your camp."
Cedarpaw jumped to his paws, "Let's go then!" Cedarpaw started padding forward. "WOAH!" He screeched, falling forward onto his chin.
Blazeheart rolled his eyes. "Let's get back to camp. We promised that we would be back by sundown." He said looking at the sky. It was almost night.
"Alright then." Briarheart meowed. "Let's go back to camp." Briarheart looked at Cedarpaw. "Come on. You look like you haven't eaten for a moon."
Brightberry jumped up. "First one to camp gets first pick off the pile!" She hissed playfully at Blazeheart as she ran off.
"Challenge accepted!" Blazeheart meowed racing after her. The scattered leaves crunched under his feet.
Briarheart bolted after him. She turned, "Come on!" Briarheart yowled at us. "Hurry up!" She turned back and raced after Blazeheart and Brightberry.
I grinned. My paws instinctively carried me forward. I breathed in the cool Leaf-fall air. The wind filling my pelt. I heard the pounding of paws behind me as the others raced to catch up.

Chapter 1 will definitely not be written as fast as the prologue.
I rushed through it to get it out a lot. I'm trying and failing at finding a healthy balance between. Write eat sleep and breath. I also need to start forcing myself to take breaks. It doesn't help my literal thought process for this was "Hey. Would it be cool if the clans faced a disease like rabies? Let's write about it! I do have something special for it in mind, but I honestly don't know 1) How were going to get to that point 2) What on earth the thing I have in mind is 3) If anything is going to tie together in the end.
Sorry for my small rant. freaking take a break rumor
