which characters in the books do you actually like? my favorites are Jayfeather, Hollyleaf, Briarlight and Leafpool.
Yes, i like some characters in this series :u
jayfeather is such an interesting, well developed character. idk, i have always liked him. his relationship with half moon is cute too and i liked how he showed to have a soft side. he loves his clanmates and cares about them, and he'll go against starclan to save his clan, which is pretty brave since everyone else follows starclan for everything. jayfeather is a very independent cat, and very interesting.
hollyleaf has done some questionable things that i don't like, but her redemption is what made me realize she deserves forgiveness. she worked her ass off, saved some apprentices, helped fight against windclan and drove sol away. she still cared about her clan, watched over everyone while she was gone, and forgave leafpool and squirrelflight. i wish she sacrificed her life to save leafpool instead of ivypool. i don't mind that she saved ivypool, but the sacrifice would have been more bittersweet if she saved her mother instead. i never found hollyleaf annoying, and i understand why she reacted the way she did. she dealt with too many lies that tore her heart out, and wasn't thinking clearly, so im glad she got the much-needed time away from the clans and thought about what she did before she returned. she earned her place in starclan!
not much to say about briarlight except i think shes sweet. shes a little motherly to jayfeather, wants to help take care of him and comfort him, and helps him with his duties. i think she deserved a better death tbh, like trying to save kits or something from a hawk. idk, i felt she deserved a more honorable death, i thought it was ridiculous that she died from greencough of all things.
leafpool holds a special place in my heart because shes one of the few cats who learned from their mistakes and never repeated them again. that is GOOD growth. i wish she had more flaws apart from breaking the code, but im okay w/ how she was handled. she was a brat when she was meeting crowfeather and i thought that was very selfish of her, but i appreciate that she realizes she had to be loyal to her clan and kept her promise to cinderpelt. leafpool is a good girl and im very happy with her story. its so refreshing to see someone learning from breaking the warrior code and choosing their clan. she worked hard to earn the respect back, and she sure does deserve it.

I'll probably give explanations later or you can just ask why, but my favorites (in no particular order save for the first cat) are Leafstar, Riverstar, Fuzzball, Gorse Fur, Sun Shadow, Tree, Violetshine, Daisy, Hollyleaf, Jayfeather, Feathertail, Bluestar, Firestar, Shadowsight, Skystar, and Ashfur (more so as a villain).

Sandynose - He can be a grump, but he's also shown himself to be very caring, accepting, and just an all around decent guy.
Rabbitleap - Super patient and kind, I love how he has a fear of heights, and he still has that fear, it didn't just disappear. It makes these characters seem more relatable, when they have a fear, that doesn't just vanish.
Nettlesplash - This guy nursed a cat from an enemy group back to health, and he and Mintfur even wanted her to stay with them. You don't really get much more compassionate than that.
Mintfur - Like Nettlesplash, she helped nurse a cat from an enemy group back to health, and as an apprentice, she was brave and determined, and I loved hers and Sagenose's brother-sister relationship.
Sagenose- ADORABLE as an apprentice and hilarious, he was one of the best characters in SkyClan's Destiny. I also love how much he cares for his family.
Brackenfur - He went from being this cautious apprentice, to this bad ass warrior, who spies on bad guys, and knocks hawks out of skies, his loyalty has never wavered, he really is the best cat in ThunderClan.
Stick - This guy is complex, he is stubborn and overbearing, but he's also very intelligent and compassionate. Everything he did, it was to keep his daughter and his group safe. He didn't go about it the right way most of the time, but it seemed like his heart was always in the right place. I think his story is one of the most tragic ones out there, his stubbornness lead to the death of the cat most precious to him, his daughter, by his own claws. That must have absolutely shattered him. I also find it interesting, that unlike most cats who pop up into the clans, Sol, Darktail, etc, he didn't have any evil ulterior motives against the clans.
Red Claw - He's a kind, super loyal guy, who doesn't take things for granted, and he's good with kits, what more can you ask for?
Shattered Ice - He helped discover tunneling, and he didn't take crap from anyone.
Mousewhisker - He is endearingly thick-headed, he is also extremely determined, kind, and just, what's not to love about Mousewhisker?
I have a lot more characters that I liked, but these are all I'm going to do, or else this post would be a mile long lol.

Ivypool. Sure, she's flawed, but since I related to her as a kid and still enjoy reading from her perspective.
Squirrelflight has always been a favourite of mine. I loved her attitude as an apprentice and still appreciate her as a character in later books. She's also a great sister.
Rootspring. I love my anxious man. No explanation needed.

here's a bunch of mini-essays on why i love these characters!
Leafpool: i have loved leafpool since i was a kid, but now that i'm older, i have more reasons to love her other than the whole crowfeather situation. i relate to leafpool because she is passive. that's literally her whole character. her being passive is both a good trait and bad trait. it's a flaw that she is willing to push things away in order to help others or put others first. but it's also a good thing because she is willing to do whatever it takes to help people with the least amount of trouble as she deems possible. for the kits situation, she felt guilty for dragging her sister in, but to her at least, her solution meant no trouble for anyone other than her and squirrelflight. to her, it was the least amount of damage. plus, she spends the rest of her life being loyal and being a good medicine cat who is able to put bias aside and still do all aspects of her job with hardly any issue. i don't get when people claim she was too pushy on lion, jay, and holly. she wasn't. she was just being a good family memeber and someone they could get advice from. there's nothing wrong with that. unlike squirrelflight, leafpool mostly puts others first and after the crowfeather thing is said and done, she never puts her needs before anyone else's (which is what squirrelflight does and why i hate her so much in comparison to how much i love and adore and prefer leafpool). leafpool is patient, kind, and both selfless and selfish at the same time. she's complex and that is why she's very dear to me.
Cinderpelt: cinderpelt is my favorite medicine cat of all time, even more so over leafpool. cinderpelt is even *more* selfless than leafpool ever was. she is strong, kind, level headed, and she knows how to keep things professional. she is the only thunderclan medicine cat to never act on her feelings. once she is an official medicine cat apprentice, she doesn't lash out or act passive aggressive anymore. she wholeheartedly accepts firestar and sandstorm being together, and she finds her own happiness doing the job she came to love. this is why i hate how they used cinderpelt for boring cinderheart...i find it difficult to believe cinderpelt would ever regret her good happy life as a medicine cat and willingly stay inside of another cat to experience a life she never got. it makes no sense to me. cinderpelt was happy being a medicine cat. she learned to accept and find happiness in her new life as a medicine cat and that fact will never change. she is strong, confident in her life and career, and she managed to successfully move on from her feelings and be happy for everyone around her. plus, she sacrificed her life saving her sister in law. she's awesome. Cinderpelt > Cinderheart.
Jayfeather: i love jayfeather because he is angsty and emo. but i know there is more to him. i believe he and crowfeather both never learned how to handle their emotions properly and that is why they are angry and grumpy, and lash out at others. they just don't know another way. they see being emotional as being vulnerable, but for jayfeather, it's different because he doesn't want pity. to him, he relates that to pity over his blindness. he gets better as the series progresses, but now that it's no longer his POV in AVOS and oward, he is being written as more harsh and we cease to understand him anymore. but i feel like i still do. he loses briarlight and leafpool, and his emotional problem only grows. idk why this makes me love him, but i just love tragic characters that are misunderstood--yes, i see jayfeather as misunderstood and you can't change that for me. i know he is mean to others, but i see it as a life long emotional problem he needed help with.
Hollyleaf: hollyleaf deserved better. point blank. she should have been the third cat and gone through a different character arc. but the arc she was given was still good since she learned from her mistakes and spends the rest of her short time left helping her clan and making things up to everyone. she is the only protagonist who stuck to the code a lot, but like others before her, she still managed to break the code sometimes to do what's right. she's a walking contradiction and i love her for that deep complexity. plus, her novella in the tunnels is super amazing to me. i love seeing her POV on things and how she suffered through her guilt and regret. i love her because she had potential for more growth if she had lived past OotS.
Gray Wing: there's not that much to say when it comes to gray wing because he is universally seen as the best character ever, especially the best in DotC. he is kind, selfless, loyal, determined, and isn't afraid to stand up for his beliefs and moral code. he is just and heroic and the BEST father we've ever seen in the entire series. he's literally just the best. yes, he still has flaws and was dumb for a couple of moments, but he still powered through all of it.
Briarlight: i love her because she is a fighter and she is the emodiment of hope. i also love briarlight because of her closeness to jayfeather and how much she impacted his life. she is a positive influence on everyone around her and that is the best thing about her...i was happy to see her pass though because (she shouldnt have to suffer anymore) she lived a good life and managed to help out and leave an impact on her clan.

Lionblaze - Unpopular opinion lmao. I have a soft spot for "dumb with a heart of gold" characters and imo that's exactly what Lionblaze is. People like to hate on him for things that he didn't intend and has clearly grown from, and I love his maturity and character development. I feel like he really cares about his siblings and family, and you can tell. The way he says that he wished he loved Leafpool more just broke my heart. Plus, his dynamic of being the big doof with his more edgy, serious siblings is adorable. Honestly those three were just great characters, but Lion is my personal favorite.
Alderheart - I just wish he'd gotten more development. I relate to him so hard, having to live up to great expectations and constantly feeling like he's falling short. His relationship with Twigbranch was really cute and I wish we got to see them together more in TBC. He's also pretty drama-free, especially with relationships, and that's always a plus for me. It's sad that he kind of got cast aside.
Goosefeather - I don't even know how to explain how much I love this guy. He's not exactly a good person, and that made it really fun to read about him. His downward spiral and relationship with ghosts is so, so interesting, and I almost wish we'd gotten to see more of him.
Longtail - His development was awesome. The way he begrudgingly started to accept Firestar and how he turned around and rejected Tigerstar and Darkstripe was great. I love his attitude and his relationship with Mousefur, and I think he's one of the best minor characters in the series.
Others that I like, but don't really know how to explain - Whitestorm, Tallstar, Tigerstar I (as a villain), Tigerstar II, Shadowsight, Rootspring, Tree

Squirrelflight. I started out reading PoT first, where she was in the background, but in LS, I loved how she stood up for herself like that, and how she kept standing up for herself throughout OOtS. She's very smart and brave and my 11 y/o self really looked up to her then. I still do.
