So, I guess we're keeping the kitten that we found at the parking garage yesterday. Honestly, the moment I saw him with my own two eyes, I knew that we'd keep him. My mom absolutely loves white cats. No way were we handing him over to someone else, especially since she had already saved him from dehydration (he was severely lethargic when she found him).
He was incredibly skittish yesterday, and now he's a whole lot more social. As we're thinking of a name, I noticed something peculiar about him. Whenever I make a noise, loud or quiet, he doesn't react at all. I try clapping and thumping the wall, but his ears don't twitch, his head doesn't move. He acts like nothing's happening, whereas my other cats jump and look in the direction of the noise. Even my most laid-back cat turns his head.
I'm beginning to suspect that he's deaf, but I wont say anything solid until I test him out these few days. I'll gradually start making louder and louder noises over the course of four days, and if he doesn't react to anything that I do (sound wise) I think I'll recommend sending him to the vet to my mom. I've already told her of my suspicions, but she's kind of doubtful at the moment. My dad is kind of suspicious, as well, but wont say anything solid himself.
Owning a formerly feral kitten is difficult, that's for sure.

I'm glad you guys saved him and have taken care of him, hopefully everything turns out all right! I'm guessing he's a white kitten, since you said your mother loves them. I think I've heard white cats are more likely to be deaf/blind, or have two different colored eyes? Not sure though.

Well, he sounds like a cutie, I hope he has a good life, I'm glad you helped him I have never owned a deaf animal, I hope you can figure out if he is or not He's definitely cute. Kind of resembles a Turkish Angora, but his face is pointier and his fur is a lot less fluffy. More feathery, rather than the spike that Angora kittens have. The other cats in the household have actually accepted him rather easily, and he's adapted quite well. We suspect that he probably lived in a clowder at some point, and maybe got abandoned or left behind at some point.
Neither have we. If he is, it's going to be quite a new experience. But yeah, I hope we can figure it out officially, as well.

I think I've heard white cats are more likely to be deaf/blind, or have two different colored eyes? Not sure though. He's happier than he was out there, definitely. Everything's going smoothly currently, so there's that! Yep, yep. White kitten with blue eyes. However, he is only ten weeks, so his eyes wouldn't have changed yet. But there's always a good chance that he's deaf, even if he doesn't have blue eyes in the end. Doesn't hurt to be wary.
But white cats are more likely to have deafness/blindness when they have blue eyes. If they have only one blue eye, they're likely to be deaf in the same ear that's on the blue eye's side. Unfortunately, white cats are more unhealthy overall. More susceptible to skin cancer and sunburns, among other things.
