What did you think of his behavior in the book? Did you think he was being abusive or did you find his actions to be reasonable/understandable?

he cares more about his status and how other clans percieve him than he does about his wife, his relationship, or basic morality lmfao

He's a pathetic leader and a horrible husband. He's a coward who refuses to stand up to Shadowclan because he's a slave to this idea of clan unity where any kind of disagreement means that they should just bow down to Shadowclan's insane demands. He doesn't know how to handle discipline in his own clan and he's the best proof of why deputy-leader relationships are questionable.
He's not abusive though, for all of his failings. Just because Squirrelflight's fanbase on tumblr and twitter are quick to jump the gun does not make it so.

he's not abusive. he and squirrelflight just Aren't Good Together, they don't communicate and aren't on the same page about most things.

They were both pretty...bad in this book. I don't really care for how Bramblestar treated Squirrelflight, but at the same time, she is definitely playing a part in it.
I think if she wouldn't have been deputy, it would have been different, because she didn't do her job as deputy and went behind his back, which only added to his anger. But at the same time... he's bending too easily instead of standing his ground. Definitely a coward and an unfit leader.

He's abusive and has gotten worse. He's more concerned about his authority. He isn't afraid to put Squirrelflight down and gaslight her. I fail to see how people view Squirrelflight as the bad one when Bramblestar is far worse. Also, I wouldn't bother quoting me, I'm not caring to debate about how awful Bramblestar is. He's just horrible.

He truly sucked, I doubt I'll ever be giving SqH a re-read because of his behavior... and everyone's behavior in that book in general.

I actually found him pretty reasonable, I feel like Squirrelflight’s demands/wishes like new kits were a bit far-fetched ^ i felt like squirrelflight was a bit of an unreliable narrator and was more often in the wrong than he was. she undermined his authority several times and kept pestering about another litter. (recall that from bramble's perspective, he's already been father to two litters). doesnt mean his leadership decisions were Great but i think she was a bit more at fault for how their relationship was crumbling in this book

I'd say when it comes to the romantic relationship, Squirrelflight played a larger role with her mid-life crisis. But the deputy-leader relationship really did not need Brambleclaw's petty sniping and anemic leadership. The problem is that it's entangled.

Both sucked heavily: Bramblestar was in the wrong in regards to the Sisters situation and more concerned with appearances, whereas Squirrelflight kept going behind her leader and crumbling the facade of unity that they were trying to keep up. Not to mention that she was undermining her leader, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Their relationship is absolute shit and I hope to god they fix it, or break up. To say that only one is in the wrong is incorrect--they both are.

They were both pretty bad, but I guess because I agree with squirrelflight morally with the sisters, I see his actions unreasonable. I understand he wanted to do what was best for his clan, but I honestly think he's a very spineless leader who is afraid of how he's viewed by the other clans. I personally think he's still struggling to live up to Firestar but he's going about everything the wrong way.
He should have had the guts to tell Tigerstar to back off, to do what was right especially when Sunrise was dying on the floor of his camp. Denying her any treatment was where I crossed the line tbh. If cats like Brokenstar and Tigerstar 1.0 were tended to when seriously injured, theres no reason a good cat like Sunrise should have been left to die.
