RULES ♥
i. follow all forum and proboard rules. any such disobedience of these rules can result in reporting and removal from roleplay.
ii. this is an advanced roleplay. this is advanced but like, write what you're comfortable with. we're just like. chillin here. we don't want anyone to be scared off by the "advanced" wording, just know that some people may be writing long posts (me. i write a lot. im sorry) and we generally expect proper grammar. no worries about your posts being perfect, though! iii. characters. just make ur characters realistic, ya know? they have to have some flaws, probably shouldn't all look like kendall jenner or be the secret daughter of spiderman unless you've got like... a backstory reason for it?
iv. be active. kind of. you can drop out anytime, just let someone know. Or if you need a break just skip. (ms. shades 2020)
v. have fun. this was created to be a fun to do thing over the summer while on vacation, and between working long hours. also, because i miss having forum friends (ms. briar, 2020, this b is lonely)

► Ezra N.
It was early June, summer was finally coming to Goose Tooth, Canada. The dreary small-town scape was recovering its color, and the buzz of energy had been building up since the rainy season. There were already dozens of cars in the parking lot and the colorful scenery of the park was already reflecting across the sunny day. The water park was open earlier and the amusement park would be opening soon. Ezra could feel the excitement through his fingers, splayed on the cool metal of the track. His thoughts are gee, I sure hope nobody decides to run the rollercoaster now, and then that was pretty dark, and at last—but if that’s how I gotta go, then that’s how I gotta go.
Here’s what he (Ezra) knows:
- Mr. Nowak left to pick up supplies for a few ride maintenance projects while his wife (Katherena) made sure morning preparations went along as scheduled: trash cans were emptied and put in the dumpsters, the maintenance men were testing the rides with their daily maintenance check-lists, supervisors were organizing for the shift with operator ride sheets, concession spreadsheets, game prize inventory and turning on Gauntlet Game Zone arcade games.
- The Rides Manager was giving out orders; someone had to turn on ride music around the park, another had to meticulously oil the Kings Crown Coaster tracks to ensure a smooth rides throughout the day, and worst of all, someone had to go through the The Royal Dungeons ride to ensure it was clean of all garbage that humans left from the previous day. They nose-goes’d it; Connie wasn’t quick enough again.
- New employees filtered into the park for their orientation an hour before open (two hours after Ezra arrived), sorted into their teams they were hired for. Connie generally led the Rides Team orientation with gusto: “and you will find yourself with a guest at your throat! Your armor is knowledge of the procedures at rides and our policies! Your sword is a quick call to one of us or security! Your shield is the de-escalation in customer service techniques in the Kingswood Handbook—Page 27!”
“You make it sound like we’re going into battle,” one employee laughed worriedly on the other side of the small room that housed clipboards with the rides sheets on them and the list for where each employee . “I thought this was like an easy job.” A chortle bubbled out of Connie’s throat as she slapped the wall in amusement. “Some kind of easy job, he says! What an understatement!” A maliciously gleeful, childlike grin rapidly overtook Connie’s regal professionalism. “Trust me, it’s a bit more difficult than you think.” Someone gulped audibly.
- Ezra’s happiest memories are from here, he remembers, when he was a child—of him and his cousin Gray eating cotton candy and going on rides until he (Ezra) puked, of his dad winning prizes, of his cousin Agnes getting her face painted to look like a ladybug and Ezra crying and calling her “ugly”, and nearly trying to crawl into Connor’s lap when he first rode the Kings Crown Coaster with a chant of “shit, shit, sHIT, SHIT”. He wasn’t certain why they stopped going, but he remembers applying at the age of sixteen in the summer between his junior and senior year to work as a concession stand employee.
“Hmmm,” the man looking over his application had tilted his head. “We actually need more people for the Rides Team.
- Tonight was Kingswood Ride-O-Rama. After the park closed early tonight (it was Sunday, after all) the employees would gather around the Kings Crown Coaster and ride it while Mr. Nakamura would cook on the grill in his “Made from Scratch” cat apron and discuss the awful events they catered that winter in their huge event center. Ezra and the other Rides Supervisors would be running the coaster in shifts; checking lap bars, listening to music from the Ride-O-Rama 2020 playlist they built on Spotify, and someone lazily drawling terrible jokes through the microphone instead of the usual ride, boring, dialogue (“Oncoming riders welcome to the Kings Crown Coaster, please place your bags and loose articles in the bag drop area and then sit down, buckle up that seatbelt, and be ready to lower your lap bar. If you need any assistance, one of our Knightly Team Members will be around to assist you shortly”).
The entire staff were buzzing with anticipation; Ezra dusted his kneecaps with his oil smudged hands, and he’s fairly certain there is a splotch on his face as well. The regular staff begin milling through the employee entrance gate near the back of the parking lot—Kingswood was beginning to stutter into full Magical Flying Swing (pun intended), the rides whirring as operators began their checks and test runs and the games beginning to be played by eager children and the air began to smell like fried dough and sugar.
Ezra shoved his hands in his pockets of his cargo shorts, jostling the radio clipped to his belt. It had been silent on the Rides Team channel after Connie’s verbally interpretive comedy of her Dungeon Clean Up Adventure with a chant of “ew” and occasionally static running commentary “holy hell why do we have a guillotine in a children’s amusement dark ride”.
He entered the station as another employee walked through the exit gate with clipboard in hand.
“Oh,” she stopped, chewing her lip thoughtfully. “Hi Ezra.”
“Hey.” Ezra waved lazily, watching as three other operators were marching their way excitedly towards the platform. The Kings Crown Coaster was the pride and joy of Kingswood, only certain operators were trusted with its strict height limit, and complicated console commands for operation.
“Are you going to the Ride-O-Rama tonight?” She asked conversationally. After a second, she slapped her hand over her forehead. “Duh, silly question. You guys run the coaster for two hours.”
He nods. Because Ezra is never great at conversation cues and discussing about himself. Thankfully, the radio flickers to life: “Ezra, you have to train someone on the...train today.”
Oh, right. He has to do that.
Ezra waves to the operator as he begins to leave the platform, “I gotta head out, see you later.”
Later:
The park exit was crowded as guests began to wander out, people passing every which way to get wherever they were going. Standing still to the side of it all was Elvis Bold, one of the security guards, her pink hair in a messy bun and her tattoo sleeve very visible despite her arms being crossed. She scans the crowd with mock-menace, but her blue eyes lighten up at the sight of Ezra and she calls out: “save me a seat up front!”
The sun is barely touching the horizon and beginning to cool the air. The colors of the ride begin to separate into their original colors—instead of the blurs of rainbow when in motion. The deafening noise of people and heavy machinery dissipates into a chorus of crickets. The lights of the park lanterns stay on, but the ride lights shut down slowly one-by-one.
Except the Kings Crown Coaster station. The once-medieval music playing through the radio turns into Earth, Wind, & Fire as the first song on the shuffled playlist.
He doesn’t make small talk when he arrives, Connie brightly announces in the microphone: “Ezra, you’re late!”
She waits expectantly; he only raises a brow.
“You’re supposed to say: ‘A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.”
Someone laughs. Ezra didn’t get the memo he had to quote Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings. He shrugs: “sorry Connie.”
He’s not.
