That sounds like fun! I took Public Speaking a few years ago during my first year in college. I enjoyed it.

I hated it when I went in there, but when I came out I was more confident and better able to speak. It was nice, because now I don't have too much anxiety during company meetings or whatnot.

Welcome to Mint's Niche History Week:
Today we will discuss Edward Whitlock. Little is known about this particular person, other than the fact that he turned up practically on the doorstep of on Mystic John Dee - then consultant of Queen Elizabeth - under the assumed name of John Basset. He requested he be allowed to teach John's eldest son, Arthur, Latin and grammar. This was accepted. During this time "John Basset" was paid any stayed in close proximity with the Dee household, during the time of which one Edward Kelly (also a fake name), a coworker to John Dee and his scryer, was employed. Arthur's schools progressed well and things within the household were ... normal-ish. Kelly spend much time trying to drive a rift between himself and John Dee by spreading rumors among the staff that John was communing with the Devil (bold words from a man who supposedly talked with angels and demons alike). Then, one day, one Edward Whitlock informed John Dee that he was going into town to buy colors (maybe for a painting, info unclear). He never returned. It was then that John Dee discovered his son, Arthur, had been tutored by an English spy and that he had a fake name. Whether he was spying on Dee and Kelly or, as one source suggests, Arthur - then 8 years old and the shoe-in as scryer if Kelly resigned - is unclear.
Thus ends my history lesson.

This man (Arthur Dee) could not have a more insane life. I keep expecting something to be normal, but then it's not. At the age of 60 or so he was accused of murdering is son in law. Just for example.

Oh I have toooooooooons.
At about 5, he fell down a flight of stairs and almost ended up in the river. Then his father made a particular point to list an exact measurement of a brick, because when Arthur was about 5-7, he picked one up, tossed it into the air, looked up, and didn't move as it came back down and hit him in the face. Then a couple years later, his friend cuts his forehead with a razor. Then a couple years later, his friend stabs him near his eye with a fencing rapier.
The boy had 0 luck with things that were blunt or edged and his father listed down every single time.

Very probably!
He was also got fined for calling another man's wife something along the lines of "not that pretty."
Aaaaaaaand he gave a burnt "unicorn" horn to Sir Thomas Browne.

To quote what I sent to my friend:
Oh yes. And also, I think my favorite is a line someone wrote for the court case meant to take away his ability to practice medicine:
I mean, there were a total of five cases over almost 10 years and they went: [unknown] / ... [skipped out on this one and they pronounced him guilty in his absence] / "I say I can."and "Dad says I can." / [unknown but implied to be "Random college says I can".] / "Queen/King says I can" At least he has a consistent excuse. Ish. Consistent ish.

Sometimes, history is very funny.
Also, I realized yesterday that he got to see the execution of the previous king (Charles the first) and just a small part of Oliver Cromwell's reign. Which cuts into another of the historical characters I have researched in the past. I was impressed.
